  • 2244 - #2,251 - AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH, SO HE USES A TRANSLATOR APP TO ROB A BANK

In an unconventional bank robbery attempt in Sandusky, Ohio, a 20-year-old Venezuelan national utilized a translator app to demand money from bank tellers. Identified as Yeon Brito Gonzalez, the suspect claimed he did not speak English and had used the app to communicate his demands. Despite his assertions of misunderstanding, law enforcement swiftly intervened. Sandusky Police Chief Jared Oliver highlighted the novelty of the situation, as it was the first instance of technology being used in this manner for a robbery in the area. The suspect's strategy to use language barriers as a defense was questioned by authorities, shedding light on the challenges and implications of integrating non-English speaking immigrants into the community.

  • 2243 - #2,250 - Huge number of illegals crossing at San Diego propel Cali to #1 busiest illegal border crossing

San Diego has unexpectedly topped the charts in illegal immigrant crossings, surpassing sectors in Texas which traditionally held these figures. This shift follows the implementation of stringent border control measures by Texas, including controversial legislation allowing for the state-managed deportation of undocumented migrants. This enforcement push by Texas has funneled migrants toward more lenient states like California, specifically into the San Diego sector. The recent spike in crossings culminated in over 6,997 arrests in one week—a figure usually seen monthly in other sectors. This influx has strained local resources, forcing migrants to seek temporary refuge in places like airport bathrooms, highlighting the broader implications of current border policy and state responses.

  • 2242 - #2,249 - San Fran Condo sells for about half of its price in 2019 reflecting a tanking market

Amid declining real estate values, a condo in San Francisco’s troubled Tenderloin district recently sold for half its 2019 purchase price. This stark drop, from $1.25 million to just $675,000, highlights deeper issues within specific micro-markets of the city, known for their challenges including high homeless rates and drug problems. Despite low interest rates during the pandemic boosting nationwide property values, San Francisco's real estate has not recovered, influenced by high commercial vacancies and a significant percentage of properties selling at a loss. This localized slump in the Tenderloin contrasts with national trends where limited supply maintains home values.

  • 2241 - #2,248 - Blue state squatters put on notice with 'aggressive' law and order bill

In a potent critique of New York's handling of squatting issues, a new Republican-led legislative bill aims to instill stricter enforcement measures. The proposed bill targets the escalating squatting epidemic, exacerbated by lax enforcement and liberal housing policies, enabling quick evictions by law enforcement based on homeowners' reports. This legislative push highlights the growing frustration among property owners and law enforcement with the state's current liberal approach, which often leaves properties vulnerable and undermines neighborhood safety. Advocates argue this measure is essential to restoring order and safeguarding the rights of lawful property owners against unauthorized occupants.

  • 2240 - #2,247 - Seattle's DT Doom Loop continues as Lululemon closes up shop at Pacific Place

Seattle is suffering another economic blow to its downtown core with the announcement that Lululemon will be leaving Pacific Place later this month.

The clothier is not seeing the level of sales that’s needed at this location, according to one of the employees who spoke to KOMO News. About 20 people work at the business.

The closing of Lululemon follows the departure of Fox’s Seattle, which has been a family-owned institution in the city for more than a century. The jewelry store is offering steep discounts on remaining merchandise before closing for good on April 27.
