Helen Schryver of www.schryverphoto.com is UK based, where photographers say it's tough to charge what many photographers do in other parts of the world. And… the market is just different there.
Last year, I posted a request inside the PhotoizX Member's FB group, looking for successful UK based portrait photographers to interview and help dispel those myths.
Since then, I've featured a few photographers, including the fantastic Helen Bartlett from episode 435 and Seona Misumi from episode 428.
And recently, I'm happy to report, another photographer sent me a PM, saying…
Hi Andrew! Hope you're well. A while ago, I commented on your post asking about UK photographers hitting good average sales. You asked me to report back if things continued going well for me.
I put my prices way up around this time last year. I almost trebled them!
My average has also more than trebled and is now £1700, and I just made a £2400 sale in just 30 mins which prompted me to message you 😂.
    Happy to chat sometime!
I do lifestyle/documentary shoots, mostly in my clients' homes, and do IPS in their homes too.
That was enough for me to send an invite for an interview. I'm rapt to have Helen come on and share how she finds her ideal clients, can price her work the way she does and that you don't need to be city-based or focused to build a profitable family portrait photography business.
I'll be curious if your big takeaway is to work less and make more by tripling your portrait photography prices, just like Helen has done.

  • 474 - 465: Ally Stuart Ross – Using photography competitions to successfully launch a total business rebrand
Premium Members, click here to access this interview in the premium area.
Ally Stuart Ross of www.mabelandmoose.co.uk is a photographer who has been a PhotoBizX member for a long time. She's someone I've been lucky enough to meet in person – in an authentic Scottish pub, no less, and someone who I've seen work so hard on their business and is now reaping the rewards.
Ally is happily married now; she had a few years as a single mum to 4 kids under 7! Ally's been financially responsible for her children their whole lives and has brought them up with her earnings as a photographer.
She recently went through a total rebrand to Mabel and Moose Newborn Photography, where her focus is newborns photographed in the Scandi style.
In a recent exchange on messenger, she told me…
I haven't done my 1st-year accounts yet but judging by my bank balance, this has been my most profitable year, ever.
In this interview, Ally shares why she completed a total rebrand and why so many people said she was making a massive mistake with the new name, brand, focus and look. And how she's been able to prove them all wrong.
One of the secrets to her successful launch and continued number of bookings is using photography competitions on Facebook, to launch her total business rebrand successfully.

  • 473 - 464: Kate Ahl – Actionable Pinterest tactics for photographers in business
Premium Members, click here to access this interview in the premium area.
Kate Ahl of www.simplepinmedia.com is a Pinterest expert and strategist — in this interview, she shares actionable Pinterest tactics for photographers in business.
Over the years of recording interviews, Pinterest gets mentioned only once or twice each year and seems to fall off the radar for photographers quickly. You might be using Pinterest for yourself — for inspiration, to catalogue looks, poses and styles you love and might like to emulate. What about utilising the platform to attract and connect with potential clients?
I was hoping Kate would help provide some answers around the platform and convince us one way or the other if we should or shouldn't be investing our time and effort into Pinterest.
The great news is Kate is a Pinterest master! She is the owner and founder of Simple Pin Media, a Pinterest management and marketing company.
Through her company's work with over 700 different Pinterest accounts, they take a data-driven approach to designing Pinterest strategies to help their clients and students find their perfect clients with Pinterest.
She teaches simple, actionable Pinterest marketing strategies to help business owners through her website and podcast, which she delivered in this interview.

  • 472 - 463: Jon Meadows – LinkedIn mining for more fantastic photography clients
Premium Members, click here to access this interview in the premium area.
Jon Meadows of www.highendheadshots.com is a headshot photographer based in Washington DC with MASSIVE dreams and plans for his photography business. The big difference with this photographer, though… he is actioning his goals and making them a reality.
He says he had no intention of setting up a headshot photography business but was fired from his 9-5 job and went full time with headshots.
His first headshot photography gig was photographing one of the nine members of President Obama's National Security Council in the office building next to the White House.
Last year his photography business revenue exceeded USD$380,000!
His website features beautifully lit portraits shot against plain backgrounds. He takes what I would call an aggressive approach in leading visitors to a single landing page with no other prominent navigation menu.
I was looking forward to learning more from a photographer who looks to be doing incredibly well in this space, and I can say Jon truly delivered in this one. If you aren't already utilising LinkedIn to generate leads, you'll love what Jon shares about LinkedIn mining for gaining more fantastic photography clients.
