Helen on giving Jesus the authority to work in our lives and through our lives. As believers in Jesus Christ, with the power of the Holy Spirit guiding and empowering us, we have authority given to us – but we need to be careful to use it correctly. Jesus gave us authority to preach the gospel to help the hurting world, not to harm it further. Through prayer, and exercising our spiritual gifts, we can lead others to Jesus. Dave continues his series on The Real Jesus with “His call to follow”. On Mothering Sunday 2024, Dave talks about how Mothering Sunday wasn’t originally about mums; it was introduced in the Middle Ages and was a day when you returned to your mother church, where you were baptised. But Mothers are so powerful, having a huge influence on their children, and deserve to be celebrated. Looking at Mark 1:14-20, 2:13-17, Dave talks about how God wants something from us. He wants us to : * Repent and Believe in the gospel* Put the call to follow Jesus before our careers* Put the call to follow Jesus before our families* Put the call to follow Jesus before earning money We are to learn from Jesus, love like Jesus and live like Jesus. Chris follows our series of messages on who Jesus is by starting to look at what Jesus did. Jesus showed us how to surrender to God’s will. We need to put our faith in God’s will, not our own – just like Noah and Moses. Noah built an ark that was 75 feet wide and 450 feet long taking thousands of man hours. It was not easy and let’s not forget he didn’t have a B&Q to use for materials! Moses is called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt and, after raising objection upon objection, finally accepts God’s will. Fast forward to Jesus. Graham Webb from Jubilee Church Liverpool on raising up elders and leaders. As Jubilee announces plans to appoint Dave Frodsham and Rick Robertson as its elders by the end of May 2024, Graham goes over what the Bible says about eldership and leadership. 1 Peter 5: 1-4: So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight,[a] not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you;[b] not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. Dave continues his series on The Real Jesus with part two of “In the wilderness”, looking at Mark 1:9-15 – Jesus’ temptation by Satan. He also illustrates how the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – is all three at the same time, not one on one day and one on another. It is as if the three are in a constantly moving dance. Dave also talks about how Jesus suffered all that we suffered PLUS death on the cross, and went through it all to provide salvation for us. Guest speaker Mark Bowell of Jubilee Church Liverpool on The Book of Colossians – In Christ Alone. God wants us to know him. He draws our hearts and our heads and as our knowledge of him deepens, we change. Jesus is the active agent of God in every part of his gracious purpose toward the human race and reveals God to us in a person. But he is infinitely more. 1. Jesus is the person of God – he is the image of the invisible God2. Jesus is the beginning – he has supremacy over time3. Jesus is the origin – he has supremacy over cause4. Jesus is the purpose – he has supremacy over meaning5. Jesus is the essence – he has supremacy over cause, effect and every step of continued existence6. Jesus is the head of the church – he has supremacy over his body7. Jesus is the first to return from the dead – he has supremacy over death8. Jesus is the only way – he has supremacy over our eternal destiny9. Tim Hughes shares his story of how God brought him and his family to Liverpool in 2020, and talks about how all of us are called to make disciples. Tim urges us to reach the people where we are, and reminds us that we are the people God chose to do it. Dave continues our series on Jesus by looking at the first 15 verses of Mark’s gospel. Mark’s gospel is very immediate, with a lot of extra detail, focusing on what Jesus did. It also identifies his authority over people and over the natural world.  Dave also talks about how Jesus wants us to trust in Him all the time – not just on special occasions and when we need Him. In Running The Race Marked Out for Us, guest speaker Andy Arscott talks about how how we all have a purpose in life, even if we might not always be sure what it is.  Paul compared our life to a race. God gives that race a purpose – He knows what we’re going to encounter. He wants us to be the best us we can be and will change us, no matter how long it takes. In our first message of 2024, Rick looks at Nehemiah 4. Dave continues his message about how Jesus is the bread of life by looking at how Jesus is the king of kings. Denise on how Jesus is the light of the world. Light is at the beginning of the Bible, in Genesis, and at the very end, in Revelation. Denise makes four points: 1. Jesus is our light, as well as being the light of the world2. God called us out of darkness and into the light3. Light casts out darkness4. We are a light to the world. Questions to consider What does it mean to be in darkness? What does it mean to be in light How has the Lord been a light to you? Vernon on Ephesians 2: 11-22. As Christians and as a church, our focus is to know our redeemer – Christ. Guest speaker Keith Cooper, of Freedom Church Chester, on Isaiah 12:1-6. Keith looks into how, as worshippers of God, we also need to be on mission for God, and how we need to stop shrinking God and His power – otherwise our lives can become joyless, because joy is a fruit of the spirit. Christian joy is not external – it is internal. If we look to other things for our joy – reputation, possessions, money – they will let us down, whereas God and the Holy Spirit never will. Dave continues his message about how Jesus is the bread of life by looking at John 6: 35-59. In this passage, Jesus questions people’s motives in pursuing Him. Are the people pursuing Jesus because He is the Son of God or because they are hungry? Jesus has performed miracles but the disciples are still looking for proof that they can believe in Him as the Son of God. Dave compares that to how we can be like that – “last week was good, God, but this week isn’t so good. Just as we don’t get any benefit from bread unless we eat it, we don’t get any benefit from Jesus unless we believe in Him. That’s why God tells us that we must believe, know and trust in Jesus. Dave continues our “Who is Jesus?” series by looking at John 11:17-44. Dave looks at the story of Lazarus and reminds us that Jesus has a plan; He knows what’s ahead. We can trust Him. When we encounter God’s delays, it isn’t because He doesn’t love us. We are all affected by death – it is a shadow upon our lives. We need to be ready and have faith as we walk into those things. We shouldn’t accept death as something natural – it wasn’t God’s original purpose. Eternal life was. That’s why we struggle with it – because something in us rejects it. Instead of trying to accept death as something natural, we should: Grieve with faith and hope Know God’s love Accept God’s grace Questions to consider: 1. Jesus delays leaving to see Lazarus when he hears he is ill. What delays have you experienced / are experiencing and how have you dealt with it? 2. What differences do you see in how Martha and Mary interact with Jesus after the loss of their brother? What can we learn from them?  (1 Thes 4:13-14) 3. Sylvia continues our series looking at the different facets of Jesus’ personality by looking at how Jesus is the restorer of the kingdom of God. Jesus came not to share about faith, or preach, but to restore the kingdom of God. During the three years that Jesus preached, he only preached about the kingdom of God. When God created man, he had a plan. He wanted to bring His kingdom to earth. He created man in His own image and likeness to rule and dominate over every living thing. That is why He created every one of us. Genesis 1:26-28 (AMP): Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.” So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them. And God blessed them [ and said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth, and subjugate it; and rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.” We are supposed to rule everything that God has created. Denise continues our series on who Jesus was by looking at how Jesus is our good shepherd. Abraham was a shepherd and the patriarch of the Jewish nation. Moses tended his flock for 40 years before God asked him to go back and rescue his people. King David was a shepherd boy before he was a warrior and a king. Shepherds were the first to see the newborn baby Jesus. In John 10, Jesus says that he is our good shepherd, who lays down his life for the sheep. Vernon continues our series looking at the different facets of Jesus’ personality by looking at 1 Peter 2: 1-12: Jesus is our living stone. If a seed is not sewn then it remains a single seed, whereas if it dies and is sewn it becomes many seeds. In the same way, Jesus needed to die in order for his ministry to grow across the world. Rick challenges us about how willing we are to make our faith public even if it costs us. Guest speaker, Charlotte Webb, founding member of Jubilee Church Liverpool, on being a crew member in church rather than a passenger. Charlotte challenges us to be people who are helping the church move towards achieving its mission. People whose lifestyle matches up to what we say is in our hearts. She urges us to say to God “We are yours. We trust ourselves to your sovereignty. Guest speaker, evangelist Mark Saunders, on how we are all called to be ambassadors for God – using ourselves as vessels for his word. That’s every single one of us – whatever we think of ourselves. We might think we’re not good enough to be used by God but that’s not true – that’s a lie that is coming straight from the devil. Mark reminds us that when God looks at us, he doesn’t just see the sin in us, he sees his son – Jesus. And his son says you’re enough! Rick talks about how, as Christians, we don’t have a physical home as such – Jesus himself is our home. Psalm 137 tells us that wherever we are, we can call it home and continue to worship God; we CAN still sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land. Dave continues the ‘Who is Jesus?’ series with a look at Jesus as son of David. Although Jesus is the son of God and son of man, He is also the son of David. Dave goes into how we need to accept the Old Testament prophecies about Christ – as Bartimaeus does in Mark 10: 47. Rick Robertson of Jubilee Church Wirral on Daniel 6. Rick delves into the story of Daniel and the lions to remind us that we don’t have to hide our faith, that we need to be open about Jesus, step out and ask God to do miracles. He tells us that our lives are like a letter sent by Royal Mail!

In Body Builders, Dave looks at how we are all gifted in different ways, how every gift is as important as any other and how we must not dismiss others’ or our own gifts as being of lesser importance. The seemingly lesser parts are indispensable.  

Denise Griffiths of Jubilee Church Wirral on Prophecy, focusing on 1 Corinthians 14:3. Denise talks about how words give the ability to communicate and to encourage but also to hurt. She also talks about the definition of prophecy, the content of prophecy and the testing of prophecy, and how prophets need to be willing to have their prophesies tested.

Dave Frodsham: What shall we do? (Acts 2: 22-24; 36-37) Dave Frodsham of Jubilee Church Wirral on how God can change situations that don’t look they can be changed, and urges us to: – Face up to the truth – Confess our sin and believe in Jesus – Be baptised – Ask to be filled with the Spirit – Continue in faith. Dave talks about how being filled with the spirit is not a one-off exercise – the Bible says we need to be consistently refilled so that we are overflowing.

Threading brilliant stories into his message, we are challenged to step forward in our own lives and follow Jesus in saying “YES! I am my brother’s keeper.”

Rick Robertson of Jubilee Church Wirral on Philippians 2: 1-11 and who Jesus is in our lives. Rick reminds us that Jesus is fully God, and that it’s fundamental to hold onto that truth, but asks us to consider what it meant for Jesus to come to meet us fully as a man?

Dave Frodsham continues our Identity Confirmed Through the Lens of the Gospel series on 1 Corinthians by looking at 1 Corinthians 11:2-16. Dave looks into how head coverings had different cultural meanings in Biblical times, and how God made men and women different – but equal in Christ. Tim Keller said that “no-one talks about this outside the church – they just shout.” Dave looks at the differences between men and women, and how they’re displayed in the Gospel, and how Christ gives us an example to follow.

As part of youth takeover Sunday at Jubilee, Josh Frodsham, one of our senior youth members, preaches on the parable of the two sons, Matthew 21: 28-32. Josh talks about how the two sons represented the two types of people Jesus was preaching to at the time – the tax collectors and other sinners, and religious leaders and the self-righteous. Josh also shares about what he learned from watching Storage Hunters instead of doing the jobs like bringing the washing in as his mum had asked!

So many people today are asking “Where is God? What is happening in our world?” Graham Anns of ChristCentral looks at 2 Kings 6:8-23, and explains why, as Christians, we have a hope. Graham goes into why we need to trust God in all circumstances. God is all-powerful – nothing is too difficult for Him. He has seen the bigger picture!

Jubilee Church Wirral has partnered with Christians Against Poverty to open a new CAP debt centre in our home at The Jubilee Centre in Wallasey. Steve Haines, Church Partnership Manager (North of England) at Christians Against Poverty, speaks about who is going to be helped, how they are going to be helped, and what you can do to help. He explains what unmanageable debt is and how CAP can help, what the CAP Life Skills course is all about, and shares real life stories of how CAP has helped those in serious debt in Wirral and across the UK.

Sylvia looks at Luke 8: 40-54, the story of how Jairus and how he waited patiently for Jesus to bring his daughter back to life. Jairus came to Jesus, asked Him for help, and trusted that He would give it. Sylvia talks about how we can learn from Jairus, and learn to give Jesus a chance to work not just with us, but with others too. We need to stifle our natural urge to want change immediately and be greedy for Jesus to work just with us.

On Father’s Day 2022, Dave Frodsham looks at Matthew 6 v5-15 and shows us how Jesus encourages us to ask God for good things, to keep praying and not give up and to return to the Father. Dave also looks into how to pray and widely held beliefs about praying such as “you can only pray in certain places and about certain things.”

Dave continues our series on Identity Confirmed through the lens of the Gospel with a look at 1 Corinthians 10:23-33: For the glory of God! Starting with his conclusions, Dave draws on Isaiah 6:3 and Psalm 19:1-3 and shows how Paul’s message to the people of Corinth is just as relevant to us today: – The earth is the Lord’s – Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God

Dave shows how Paul gives us many “warnings from the wilderness” that are still important today, including being aware of temptation and remembering that participation with Christ is important.

Dave looks at what reward actually is, the rights to reward and how we must run for our reward. Is living for eternity at the forefront of your mind or is it all about living for today or tomorrow?

In Whose Rights, Dave Frodsham continues our series on Identity Confirmed through the lens of the gospel, looking at 1 Corinthians 9: 1-14. In our society, those who are paid the most are often entertainers – actors, sports stars and musicians – rather than the people who add most value to our lives and who we need, like doctors and teachers. Paul was a tentmaker, doing hard, manual labour alongside his preaching. Dave looks into why the church pays people to do certain jobs, and the cost of doing what God calls us to do.

In Love Builds Up, Dave Frodsham continues our series on Identity Confirmed through the lens of the gospel, looking at 1 Corinthians 8: 1-13. Dave looks into why we must think of others in all our actions, and why causing others to sin, and tempting others to sin, is in itself sinning against Jesus. We must not be a stumbling block for others – we need to do all we can to build each other up and encourage each other.
