Episode 131 Tony Rettman . Author of NYHC and other books Growing up the kid brother of the City Gardens DJ is a sick way to walk into hardcore punk. His first show he wasn't out of grade school. Over time he would go from writing zines to writing freelance articles for multiple magazines. Eventually he would work with Revelation Records on Why be something you're not, focusing on the early Detroit scene. Later he would work on the collection of interviews for NYHC - 1980-1990 which would end up being released on Bazillion Points. Andrew "Thorp" King came from the Philly area into hardcore and rose from a pit warrior to releasing some great releases at the end of the 90s and some of the greats of the 2000s with his Thorp Records and later Sailor Grave Records. Through his years of hard work, he has had some incredible ups and downs and would eventually pull his tale and lessons learned into a fantastic book "Failure Rules". Episode 114 Jay Reason After being a guest on the Diablo's Den hosted by Danny Diablo & Jay Reason, it was natural to bring Jay Reason onto the show. Having been friends with Jay since the earliest days of traveling out of state and being close of age, we had alot to talk about and reminisce about. Jay started out singing in Voice of Reason, then The Distance. He would be the assistant to Jamey Jasta and manage the Stillborn Records. Episode 66. John Joseph Of CroMags / Bloodclot. John Joseph life has had more ups and downs and turns than any world class rollercoaster. In this brief conversation, we talked about where he drew his strength and adversity to fight past his addictions and drive himself towards success. Many people fall victim to vices and never overcome or rise above it, but for John, he survived, he overcame and he pushed himself even harder when the CroMags fell apart. His story is outlined in his first book, Evolution of a CroMagnon, so I won't give you the bio, but we go into some cracks where we can hear more of his tale there and we go beyond into, into the drive towards his multi discipline training for the Ironman competitions he lives for. He has published 5 books and is working on his 6th, he is working on tv and movie scripts and he is also working as a life coach. As he approaches 60, he is still pursuing music with Bloodclot, which will have new music in the coming year. Many of John's peers didn't make it to 30 or 50, while he is healthier physically and mentally than most half his age. Kevin's love and dedication for hardcore knows no bounds, yet his impact isn't in bands he's been in etc, but in the long time support, the hours before and every show helping out and just being the ultimate champion of hardcore in the area in general. Episode 63. Carter Holmes of From Within Records & Payback/Off The Tracks. I've been saying that he was a future podcast guest, and with FYA weekend upon us, no better time to bring him on. His humble beginnings finding hardcore in one of southernmost hardcore scenes in the US is already a phenomenal story, but it goes beyond that. From venturing beyond his home of Mobile, AL to hitting the road and finding hardcore friends from Florida to the Northeast and beyond, it made a lasting impression on him. He would eventually begin his label From Within helping release his friends demo tape. From Within would go quickly from a small diy label to a force to be reckoned with, releasing some of the best up and coming bands of the last few years in hardcore as well as releasing 2 of the One Scene Unity Comps which have become the Call For Unity/ Where the Wild Things Are of the modern days.
