The book of Leviticus can seem rather confusing, redundant and boring... and it is-- if you are reading it like a novel or history book.  Understand, however, that LEVITICUS is written as a 'legal reference book' to help this newly freed nation-- known as Israel-- govern themselves and then the book is absolutely FOUNDATIONAL.  In Leviticus we discover three 'mountains':  the OFFERINGS... the LIFESTYLE... and the HOLIDAYS of this 'brand new Nation'.  Without Leviticus, there is NO ISRAEL... and no WESTERN CIVILIZATION.

God's Love is known as AGAPE LOVE.  Agape is a sacrificial love that voluntarily suffers inconvenience, discomfort, and even death for the benefit of another without expecting anything in return.   BLESSINGS, on the other hand, are a different issue. A LIFESTYLE of Prayer -- Episode #132
Prayer is the BREATH of a Christian Life. But it is also a mystery. We may know a little something of prayer a memorized prayer or a casual AMEN when comments are made that we agree with but the practice of Prayer is a Journey to the Heart of God. Today we explore some 'possibilities' of WHERE this place called HEAVEN may actually be. Now to be sure - we are talking about the HEAVEN of the Bible-- the place Jesus ascended to... the place that is the abode of God.   But the question remains 'Where exactly is this place called Heaven?'  In this episode, we explore the idea that Heaven may not be a place outside the Universe but rather a different 'dimension of sorts'.  One that Apostle Paul and the Disciple John both visited and returned from. Let the Holy Spirit open our minds to the journey to and the location of the Heaven of the Bible.

'Can't we all just get along'. No, not really, it seems. For sure, the thousands of years of human history undeniably and indisputably validate one human experience: people are going to fight and divide. But why? Does the Bible give us any insights?  YES!  In this episode, we look at some very PRACTICAL and UNDERSTANDABLE explanations for this 'Division of Culture'.  There is, of course, hope for this divided world.  His name is Jesus!

GOD THE FATHER -- Episode #129
In the deepest recesses of the Heart of God, What Does our Lord Want?  Very simply:  Children!  For God to be a FATHER, He must, by definition, have Children.  Not angels-- they are his servant to do his bidding, but children.  Children who have a free will to love God (or reject Him). In this episode we look at the Practical Truth of 'God the Father'.   God's desire, ultimately, is for us.   It is why He sent Jesus to Earth-- to rescue and redeem the lost family of humanity.

In a sense for approximately 400 years the children of Israel carried a picture of Jesus with them. Did they know or understand it? NO. Probably not. They understood the HOLINESS of the Tabernacle. They had a sense of the PRESENCE of God from the Tabernacle. They certainly understood that the Tabernacle was a place to worship and sacrifice for Israel. What the Hebrew children could not understand was how clearly and powerfully the Tabernacle presented the Biblical Plan of Salvation in Jesus. Ultimately, that is the Purpose of the Tabernacle. From the Entrance Gate to the Holy of Holies-- the Tabernacle calls us to press on in to the Glory of God.

The Bible and the Problem of Time

The dilemma is REAL and it is EVERYWHERE. The whole issue of TIME AND THE BIBLE! Go to any museum such as the Smithsonian… take a college  ‘geology class’… read a children’s book about dinosaurs… and you will encounter the PREVAILING SECULAR VIEW-- often with beautiful, full color charts. The dates are stated with CERTAINTY and ASSURANCE. '13.8 billions years ago, the universe was born'… '165 million years ago the dinosaurs roamed an earth similar to the Jurassic Park movie'… '3.2 million years ago LUCY became the first HUMAN to walk upright and begin the homo sapiens race.  Yes, the Question of Time and the Bible is all around us.  In this episode, we examine how the Bible's Chronology confronts this world view-- and is perhaps the more scientific view.

THE JEWISH SEED
Episode #126

No other family on earth has experienced the highs and lows that the seed (family) of Abraham has known.  Through Abraham comes-- after 42 generations-- the promised KING of the JEWS. And upon Abraham and his seed has come the most vitriolic attacks that the world has ever seen, culminating in the extermination of over 6 million of Abraham's children in the concentration camps of WW2.  Which begs the question 'WHY'?  In this episode we examine the call of God on Abraham's life and the purpose-- to this very day-- of the Jewish Seed that runs throughout the pages of the Bible.

MIRACLES

'A surprising and welcome event that is not EXPLICABLE by NATURAL or SCIENTIFIC Laws' (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).   We have all used the phrase ‘it’s a Miracle’… sometimes in jest… sometimes to facilitate discussion…. And maybe, just maybe— as real genuine expression of an event or experience. Does God perform MIRACLES? For sure, the Bible abounds with 'miraculous' supernatural events-- including the greatest miracle of all: the Resurrection!  Take a listen to this podcast episode as we examine the Practical Truth of MIRACLES.

Heaven or Hell.  Most of us believe that we will end up in one of these destinations someday. THE BOOK OF JUDE -- Episode #116

The Book of Jude is 25 verses of warning against False teachers who had infiltrated the church. Just look at the dire warnings concerning there 'false teachers': they... PERVERT Grace, ENCOURAGE immorality, DENY Jesus AS ONLY SAVIOR, POLLUTE their bodies, REJECT Authority, MOCK Celestial beings, and they are BLEMISHES on church love Feasts! Wow! Jude was not pulling any punches. And what was true THEN is just as true TODAY! Let us learn and take heed from this powerful message.

Ten times in the book of 1 John, the Aged Apostle refers to his readers as "dear children";.  John is an old man when he writes these three letters to the church.  He is the ONLY one of the 12 Disciples left.  Peter is gone. Paul is long dead. In truth, John is one of only a relatively few people left on the earth that had actually met and talked with Jesus during his earthly life. John's life journey has carried him over some incredible times. His brother James was one of the first martyrs of Christianity. John is one of the last.  The Lord is not done with the Apostle John yet, however. He writes-- as an
Elder and an eyewitness of the ministry of Jesus-- to address 'heresies' that were creeping into the Church and weakening the Gospel message. John's three letters speak to the church then-- and to the church today!!

The Books of 1 and 2 Peter  
Episode #114

When it comes to 'amazing experiences' no one can top Simon Peter.  He walked with Jesus from early on in his ministry... say untold miracles,,, was the only human ever to 'walk on water'... stood on a mountain top with Moses and Elijah as the Glory of God turned the scene to radiant light and the Voice of God spoke over Jesus as 'my son with whom I am well pleased'. WOW! And then, Peter is the first one to enter the empty tomb and with EYEWITNESS integrity proclaim 'He is not here.  He is Risen! However, the books of 1 and 2 Peter are not about the experiences he personally experienced, but the Authority and Trustworthiness of the SCRIPTURE.  It is the Scripture that is our foundation of faith.  And as an personal eyewitness, Peter says we can Believe it is true.

The Book of JAMES -- Episode #113

One wonders what kind of stories James, as the half brother of Jesus and the probable author of the book of JAMES, might have had. Growing up in the same home as Jesus. Eating at the same table. Sharing the same genealogy (at least on his mother’s side). Was there sibling rivalry? Probably? Did he ever tire of hearing ‘why can’t you be like your big brother’? When did James come to believe that his ‘big brother’ was somebody SPECIAL? The Book of HEBREWS -- Episode #112

The Book of PHILEMON -- Episode #111

The subject, tragedy and types of SLAVERY have been an issue for all of human history.  In the book of PHILEMON Paul writes an intimate appeal to his friend Philemon.  The one who carries this letter to Philemon is none other than an escaped 'slave' (or indentured servant) named Onesimus.  In these 25 verses, Paul appeals to his Friend to accept Onesimus as a new brother and an equal co-worker in God's Kingdom.  In this Episode, we address the different 'types' of 'slavery... and the Biblical demand that we esteem one another 'equal' in the eyes of God.

The Book of TITUS -- Episode #110

As one of his PASTORAL EPISTLES (letters), the Book of TITUS is written to a trusted companion who traveled and ministered with Paul and whom Paul sent to the Island of Crete-- with a mission to establish churches and teach Christian doctrine. We don't know a great deal about Titus, but we have included in the Scripture the letter Paul wrote to him called the Book of TITUS. In this episode we will examine Titus' difficult challenge in communicating the Gospel to the 'Cretans', and perhaps see how these words written 2000 years ago resonate with the church in this day. The Bible is always relevant... and the Book of Titus gives us insights into the sound doctrine and holy living we need for today!

The Books of 1 and 2 TIMOTHY

Wherever the Apostle Paul went on his missionary travels, he was on the lookout, not just for 'converts', but also for men and women who could CARRY ON the Mission and LEAD the Church as it grew.  TIMOTHY, a young man from the city of Lystra, became one of his closest confidants and students. Paul spoke of Timothy as his 'co-worker'… 'my son whom I love'…..'my True Son'... and 'my Dear Son'.  TIMOTHY is a Big Deal!! .  He would ultimately become the Pastor (Bishop) of the thriving and vibrant church in EPHESUS.  Paul writes these two letters (often called the Pastoral Letters) to his 'apprentice-'-  giving instruction, encouragement and advice to Timothy-- and to a succession of pastors over the last 2000 years.  It is Seminary 101 on how to led a church.  Welcome to the books of 1 & 2 Timothy.

1 & 2 THESSALONIANS   -- Episode #108

Today’s study books-- 1 & 2Thessalonians— are written to the church at Thessalonica, a city of some 200,000 people that was on a major Roman road know as the Egnatian Way. Paul and Silas spent approximate 3 months there— preaching and sharing with the city about Jesus.  The prominent questions that the Thessalonian Church had concerned the RETURN of JESUS.  When would it take place? What were the circumstances? How would Christians know it was the Second Coming?  These and many other questions asked by the church of Thessalonica-- and the church of today-- are addressed in these two LETTERS. The Book of COLOSSIANS -- Episode #107

The KEY CONCEPT of the book of Colossians is the SUPREMACY OF CHRIST!  The newly formed church in the city of Colossae was trying to 'blend' the worship of CHRIST the Savior with the pagan traditions of the city and culture's gods.  This won't work, Paul said!  The work of Christ did away with religious days, observances of special moons, the worship of 'things' rather than the worship of the 'INVISIBLE' Creator God found in Jesus Christ.  Even today, we see Christians and culture try to combine pagan holidays with Christian truths.  Only in Christ and Christ alone will we find TRUTH and DELIVERANCE from the wicked lifestyles that once held us captive.  He is the 'fullness of the Godhead'... our 'Head' and our "Lord'.  I believe you will enjoy this lesson on the Book of Colossians!!

The Book of PHILIPPIANS -- Episode #106

One word can easily describe the message of the Book of Philippians:  JOY!!  Sixteen times in the four short chapters of Philippians, the word 'joy' or 'rejoice' is used to encourage the church and readers through the ages.  Paul is in prison while writing this letter to the church at Philippi.  There is, however, a JOY that rises above the difficult circumstances of life.  'Rejoice in the Lord always.  And again I say REJOICE!! (Phil. 4:4). The Book of Ephesians -- Episode #105

The City of Ephesus was home to one of the 7 Wonders of the World.  That 'Wonder' was Artemis, the goddess of Fertility. A shiny, 90 foot tall STATUE of Artemis stood in the harbor (think 'Statue of Liberty' in New York City) and a gleaming TEMPLE of Artemis (450 feet long and 250 feet wide) graced the downtown area of the City, welcoming the sailors, traders and pilgrims from all over the Mediterranean. A magnificent  city... but Ephesus was a dark city as well. Witchcraft, sorcery, black magic, spell books, prostitution and spiritual bondage.  Then the gospel comes to Ephesus and everything changes. Today's podcast focuses on Paul and his letter to this beloved church in Ephesus.

The Book of GALATIANS

Galatia is not a city but a ‘PROVINCE’ or ‘area’. The area was a quiet, backwoods, provincial, sort of place where nothing much changed. Compared to very 'liberal' Corinth,  Galatia was CONSERVATIVE.  Mainly farmers, retired soldiers and pheasants in small villages. The churches in the area had experienced the GRACE and FREEDOM of Jesus through Paul's preaching, but things had changed!  Now, they were being influenced by a group of Jews know as the JUDIAZERS. This group questioned Paul's credentials and message-- encouraging all to adhere to Jewish laws and customs (circumcision, Jewish festival, food regulations, etc.) as a necessary part of their Christianity. The Letter of GALATIA is a response and a rebuttal to their error. Paul knew firsthand the emptiness of legalism-- and he encouraged his young churches NOT to turn back to their futile way of life.  We mustn't either!!

The Books of 1 and 2 Corinthians-- 29 chapters-- are ‘instructional manuals’ on how to function as a CHURCH!! Written around 55AD, we learn so much about HOW the church should behave from the ‘mis-behavior’ of the Corinthians. The Gospel Church is NEW to the Greek/Roman world… and has really only been in existence for 20 years. It would be expected that the 'early Christians-- especially new believers from such a corrupt and promiscuous city like Corinth-- would have lots of issue. They did!! . Paul addresses many of those issues... divisions, sexual behavior, pagan practices, lawsuits and the like... in his glorious letters to this new church.

The Book of ROMANS -- Episode #102

PAUL, for all practical purposes, should be thought of as Pastor to an EMPIRE. God calls some uniquely gifted people to be his messengers. Perhaps none was more UNIQUE than Paul. Paul, the Jewish Radical; Paul the Pharisee; Paul the unlikely Convert to Christianity; Paul the Roman Citizen, Paul the credentialed scholar. All of those attributes and many more caused the Lord to call Paul His CHOSEN INSTRUMENT (Acts 9:15).  Paul would write 12 books (about one-fourth) of the New Testament. Paul would travel over 10,000 miles on four missionary journeys throughout the Empire.  Paul would face prison and beatings and rejections and shipwrecks and betrayals-- but he never retreated from the call as God's Chosen Instrument.  Have fun as you listen and comprehend the truths of the book of ROMANS.

The Book of ACTS (Episode #101)

The Gospels are the CONTINENTAL DIVIDE of the Bible. They divide the Bible Story into TWO distinct DIVISIONS.. The whole of the Old Testament was ’looking FORWARD’ (or uphill, if you will) to the coming Messiah and the Cross of Christ. AFTER the Gospels, everything is looking BACKWARDS at the GOSPELS and the Cross. Another way of saying it— the Old Testament is PREDICTING the coming of the Messiah. The New Testament— beginning with the book of ACTS— is EXPLAINING the Cross. ACTS begins a NEW AGE for the world-- the CHURCH AGE. From Pentecost on, the news about Grace and Forgiveness is being shared across the world with all who will listen. Western (Judeo-Christian) Civilization, and it message of compassion, empowerment and love-- is born.

The Book of JOHN -- Episode #100

The Apostle John-- author of the Gospel of JOHN-- was the closest human being on Earth to the Savior Jesus. He was called 'BELOVED DISCIPLE' or the 'Disciple Whom Jesus Loved' throughout the Gospel  John’s Gospel can be thought of as an 'insiders tell all’ book…  not in a bad way but in an INTIMATE and EYEWITNESS sort of Way.  John was THERE on the Mount of Transfiguration with Moses and Elijah!  John was THERE when Jesus raised Jairus' daughter back to life.  John was THERE in the Garden of Gethsemene hearing the sobs and passions as the Son of God prepared for the Cross.   His position as a member of the INNER CIRCLE of Disciples gave him a unique and different perspective of Jesus' life and ministry.   As the last Gospel written-- John's Gospel reveals a depth of information and understanding about the Plan of Redemption.  'For God so love the world that He sent his on Begotten son.... Jesus'.

The Book of LUKE  -- Episode #99

When you think about the book of Luke, let this verse help define the premise of Luke's God-called reason for writing:

Luke 1:3 'With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,'  The Book of LUKE is the careful, orderly and methodical work of an HISTORIAN. The documentation and details given by Luke fill in many gaps and authenticate the life and details of Jesus. Hope you enjoy this study into Luke's Gospel.

The Book of MARK   (Episode #98)

Each of the Gospel writers presents a unique vision of the life of Jesus.  Not DIFFERENT-- just unique as seen through their eyes.  Matthew (the Jewish Tax Collector) presents Jesus as the KING OF THE JEWS.  Mark's Gospel account is different.  Mark is a young man.  A man of action.  He shows a 'Jesus' that is always 'on the go'. Mark emphasizes the ACTION SIDE of Jesus-- his miracles, his travels, vanquishing demons and healing the sick.  It is WORKS over WORDS with Mark's gospel account of the life death, burial and resurrection of God's Son.

The Book of MATTHEW  (Episode #97)

The Book of Matthew ties together the Old Testament and the New Testament as Matthew reveals Jesus as KING OF THE JEWS. From the calling of Abraham by God to the birth of the Son of God in Bethlehem— there was a plan!! A 2000 year plan, played out in the ’flesh and lineage’ of Abraham. From Abraham to Isaac to Jacob to Judah to David to ultimately Jesus. Therefore, it is appropriate that the first chapter of the New Testament (Matthew 1) is the ROADMAP of the biological plan of Salvation. Matthew, the tax collector who assessed taxes based on family records and genealogies, lays out the JEWISH and HEBREW lineage of Jesus— beginning with the Father of the Hebrew race— ABRAHAM.

From Malachi to Matthew (The Time Between the Testaments) -- Episode #96

The 400 years of history from Malachi to Matthew set the stage for the COMING of the Messiah.  Perhaps no other timeframe in human history has had more impact-- culturally and spiritually-- on our current western society than this time.  Think about names-- names you recognize-- that lived at this time: Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, Alexander the Great, Cleopatra, Buddha, the Maccabees, Julius Caesar... just to name a few.  It seems that this 400 years-- in Biblical thought-- was necessary to lay a FOUNDATION for the New Testament and PREPARE a dark and broken world for the coming of a MESSIAH! Indeed, that was the plan!

The Book of Malachi  -- Episode #95

The Book of MALACHI-- the last book of the Old Testament-- speaks about an important subject that resonates in today's church as well as the days of Malachi.  The Issue of Worship. Malachi warns the Jews that God the Father was not happy.  Their worship was not real... not genuine... in fact, it was worthless in His sight.   God had gloriously & miraculously brought the Jews back from Persia and restored them to Judea. You would think they would see the Lord’s Hand in this MIRACLE and desire to WORSHIP Him and Give Thanks. You would think… Instead they were half-hearted and lackadaisical. (Probably not unlike much of the CHURCH today). Four Hundred years before the Coming of Messiah, Malachi confronts the Jews for the flawed SACRIFICES... their flawed GIVING... and their flawed RELATIONSHIPS. The book of MALACHI ends with a promise:  there is One coming who will bridge the gap from the Old to the New Testament. A Coming Messiah!

The Books of Haggai and Zechariah (Episode # 94)
The Temple is a HUGE PART of the Gospel Story in the New Testament. Which is why the books of Haggai and Zechariah are so vital in the Old Testament. Haggai’s word to the Jews is FINISH the construction of the Temple. Zechariah’s word to the Jews is that a New Mong is coming… a humble Messiah, riding on the back of the donkey into the Temple, with crowds shouting ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’ Hope you enjoy this study. 

The Books of HABAKKUK and ZEPHANIAH (Episode #93)

Zephaniah 3:17  'The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. . He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.'  Above is one of most intimate passages of Scripture in the entire Bible.  Amidst our fears and our anxieties... living in a world of darkness and trepidations... dire predictions of coming judgments... the book of Zephaniah provides for a mental picture of a Loving God 'singing a song over us'!  God sings!  Whether you need a lullaby for peace, a march to keep you moving forward or perhaps simply a song of encouragement-- God sings over us because He loves us.  In this episode we study the 'complaints' of Habakkuk  and the 'song in the storm' of Zephaniah.

The Books of MICAH and NAHUM  (Episode #92)

The two main messages for most of the Minor Prophets were SIN and IDOLATRY in the Culture! So what was the SIN that upset God so much? It was the treatment of people— especially the poor, disenfranchised, alienated and weak. We see this same message echoed by Jesus in the New Testament. Who did Jesus DEFEND? The sick… like the Leper and the Woman with the issue of blood. The poor...like the widow and her offering. The accused… like the woman who was about to be stoned for her sin. The ‘despised’… like the lowly Samaritan who was the rescue hero of Jesus’ story of the Good Samaritan. And then there were the children that Jesus loved and protected.. The MIS-TREATMENT of our fellow human begins is what caused the anger of Jesus to rise. He even went so far as to EQUATE the way we treat OTHER PEOPLE as the WAY WE TREAT GOD. ‘Loving your neighbor’ was equal to ‘loving God’ according to Matthew 22:37-40. In this podcast, we see the sad necessity of God's Judgement... and His REDEMPTION-- as Micah tells us about One to be born in BETHLEHEM.  The Coming Messiah!

The Books of OBADIAH and JONAH (Episode #91)

'FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD'… If you know of any verse from the Bible, it is this one—  John 3:16.  From signs at ball parks to t-shirts to preachers in pulpits, it is a very common theme.  And why? Because it is TRUE. While the Bible-- from Genesis 12 to Acts 2 focuses on Abraham and his lineage (because the Messiah Jesus is coming through the human gene pool of Abraham)-- that does not mean that God does not care about the rest of the people in the world.  He desperately DOES.  And the two books we look at today confirm that TRUTH.   OBADIAH is a book written to the Edomites- enemies of Israel from the lineage of Esau.  And then there is JONAH, who is called to preach repentance and salvation to the hated Assyrians in Ninevah.  These two books-- Obadiah and Jonah-- testify to the love of God for all peoples.  And his desire to see every culture embrace LIFE in His Son.  Hope you enjoy the lessons from these two amazing books!

JUDGEMENT and JUSTICE!  Two important themes throughout the Bible-- and the focus of the Biblical books of Joel and Amos.  JOEL speaks of a coming invasion of 'locusts'.  These 'locusts' may be of the 'bug' variety or perhaps a 'swarming army'.  Regardless, they would be the instrument of JUDGEMENT if God's People did not repent of their sin and return to God. In the book of AMOS, the societal corruption of the nations was exposed.  Extortion, bribery, misuse of the poor, neglect of the needy-- injustice of every kind.  And God had had enough!  'Let justice roll like a river' (Amos 5:24). Let us learn from these two powerful prophets.  Their message is as profound and important today as it was  'then'!

The Book of HOSEA-- Podcast #89

God sometimes asks his people to do ‘odd’ things… occasionally ‘irrational’ things… and every now and then the Lord asks a servant to doing something  downright ‘weird and almost offensive’.  Welcome to the Book of Hosea!!  As Jeremiah was Judah’s LAST CHANCE Prophet,  Hosea was the LAST CHANCE PROPHET of the Northern Kingdom known as Israel.  The army of the Assyrians is on the way.  Israel's King and people had abandoned Jehovah God and sought out 'false lovers'.  So how was the Lord to get their attention and maybe bring them to repentance: he asks the Prophet to marry a prostitute named Gomer.  The book of Hosea is a story of obedience, betrayal... and a REDEMPTIVE LOVE that seeks out the 'wayward' and brings them 'home.

Lions Den is a ‘perfect description’, the ‘summation’ of Daniel’s life.  We are familiar with the story of Daniel in the Lion's den (Daniel 6) but honestly Daniel face many types of 'lions' in his life.  Kidnapped and taken captive as a young man, transported 1000 miles from home and living in a foreign land among the enemies, Daniel was a prophet anointed with wisdom, courage and the ability to interpret dreams. He saw things in the future that impact us even today.  In this podcast, we pull back the veil just a little and seek to understand this man of God who served almost 60 years under 4 different Persian Kings (Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, Darius and Cyrus)-- and survived.

The Book of EZEKIEL  (Podcast # 87)
The book of Ezekiel is a strange, wonderful, prophetic and anointed book.  A book filled with visions (The Valley of the Dry Bones) and prophet words (The Last Days Prophecy of Gog and Magog) and mind-stirring creatures (the four beings with four different faces). Ezekiel, as a young man, is taken captive to Babylon.  It is there, in captivity, the Lord uses him to prepare the people of his day-- and ours-- to 'get right' with God.  His Holy Spirit inspired words are a important to to today's collapsing culture as they were 2500 years ago to his own people.  When we abandon God-- bad things happen!!

The Prophet Jeremiah is sometimes known as the 'WEEPING PROPHET'.   And certainly Jeremiah did have some things to 'cry about'.  The nation of Judah was apostate.  Temple Worship was a mockery.  The leadership of Judah rejected his message and even threw Jeremiah in prison. But most importantly-- God's patience had run out!!.  Soon, the armies of the Babylonians would arrive. They would ransack the city... kill some and take other captive. But saddest of all-- the 371 year old Temple, built by King Solomon and the earthly representation of the 'Glory of God' -- would be in ashes and rubble on the ground.  As you listen to this podcast, catch the message of this powerful book.  God is a God of Grace.  He does give us, as a culture, many chances to repent.  But like the Jews of Jeremiah's days, there comes a time of Judgement if we 'abandon' God's ways.  Jeremiah was eyewitness to the destruction of the Temple.  His book of 'LAMENTATIONS' is a poem, a lament, about the sad consequences of rebellion.  Still- through it all-- there is a message of RESTORATION and REDEMPTION.  'He knows the plans he has for you... to give you a HOPE and a FUTURE!

The Book of Isaiah (Episode #85)
No other book in the Old Testament provides us such precise, intimate and revealing details about God’s Plan of Salvation as the Book of Isaiah.  Sometimes called the 5th Gospel-- Isaiah is referenced approximately 85 times in the New Testament. The references are significant facts about Jesus birth (Virgin birth), his message ('The Spirit of the Lord is on me... to preach Good News'), the one who would 'Prepare a way for Jesus' (John the Baptist) and of course, details of his death found in the 'Suffering Servant' chapter (Isaiah 53).  Isaiah lived around 700BC... but his prophecies resonate to this very day.  With more yet to come!

The Book of Song of Solomon-- Episode #84

The Holy Bible presents sex and romance as both a POWERFUL BLESSING and a DANGEROUS WEAPON. The book of Song of Solomon provides for us an intimate and honest rendering of this passion and desire.  The attraction of a man to a woman... the romantic and sensuous language used to portray romance and sex... is, to some, exciting, to some embarrassing, and to all of us, very revealing.  God created this most amazing gift.  It is His first command (read Genesis 1:28).  This last book of 'Wisdom' is all about the intoxicating and complex subject of 'ROMANCE'.

The Book of Ecclesiastes (Episode #83)

If there was anyone of whom it could be said he 'had it all' it was Solomon.  He had wealth, possessions, unrestrained pleasures, palaces and lands, fame, honor and our course total power as the sovereign King of Israel.  Yet, for all those things--  Solomon was not a 'happy man'.  In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon records his personal and honest journey toward finding PURPOSE in his life.  He had tried it all... but nothing brought him fulfillment.  'Meaningless. meaningless. all is meaningless' is the beginning of Ecclesiastes.  Solomon's journey is our journey as well.  Where do we find OUR purpose and meaning? For Solomon, he found his Ultimate Purpose in a personal relationship with the God of Creation.  Enjoy your study of this Spirit inspired book of Wisdom-- the book of Ecclesiastes!

God appears to a young King Solomon, freshly anointed as King and now humbly praying and worshiping before the Lord.  'Ask of me anything you want', God say. Wow! What could this son of David ask for.  Wealth? Victory over his enemies? Fame?  Yes... but that is NOT what he ask for!  In humble recognition of his inadequacies, Solomon asks Jehovah God for 'WISDOM' to rightly and justly rule over God's nation called Israel.  God was tremendously pleased with Solomon's request.  He answered it by making him the 'wisest man that ever lived'.  The outcome of such wisdom is Solomon's sayings... his insights into WISE BEHAVIORS.  We know it as The Book of PROVERBS.

Episode #81-- The Book of PSALMS

If you open your Bible to the 'middle' of the book you will most likely open to the book of PSALMS. Which is, honestly, appropriate! The Jewish mind set was that your 'guts' are the SEAT of your emotions. And that is exactly what Psalms is, in a manner-- the 'guts' of the Bible.  The 150 chapters of Psalms deal with the wide range of human emotions-- the 'highs', the 'lows', the 'anger', the 'depressions', the 'desires' and the 'exaltations' of our existence. Think of Psalms as a 'compilation' of songs and poems-- much like a hymnal. These 'songs' transcend cultures and generations. God gives us this book to help us relate to and understand the 'messy' emotions we feel and deal with in this life. It is honest, raw and genuine guide to understanding our relationships, our feelings... and the God who promises to guide us through life.

The Book of JOB (Episode #80)

            The Book of JOB marks a transition in our Journey through the Bible from ’historical’ to ‘philosophical’.  That is, we have now entered what are often call the Books of WISDOM. Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon— the five Books of Wisdom—  that deal with problems and issues that have been common to all mankind throughout human history.  Issues such as SUFFERING (Job); EMOTIONS (Psalms); WISE BEHAVIOR (Proverbs); PURPOSE (Ecclesiastes); and ROMANCE (Song of Solomon).  God places these books in His Bible to give us insight into ‘ourselves’.  He uses the examples and personal exploits of ‘real life’ people to help humanity ‘find it’s way in this conflicted, broken and unfair world. This Episode-- and the life of JOB-- helps us understand the realness of Suffering across every culture and time span.  None of us are exempt... and it often seems 'unfair'... but holding to FAITH and INTEGRITY will carry us through our SUFFERING to a deeper relationship with God and each other.

The Book of ESTHER (Episode #79):

The story of ESTHER is a story of 'salvation'.  Salvation for her people-- the Jews at a time when they faced total annihilation-- and for all the people in th world who are looking for a Savior, a Messiah named Jesus. The 'favor' of God was with her.  The position she rose to was QUEEN OF PERSIA. Persia, at this time under King Xerxes, is the most powerful, literate and sophisticated culture in the World.  How did a orphaned Jewish captive girl by the name of Esther end up as Queen of anything, let alone the greatest Empire on Earth.  The answer, of course, is 'God'!  This week we explore the absolutely riting story of courage, grace and God's plan for his People.

The Book of NEHEMIAH (Episode #77)

Some people are called to build businesses.  Some are called to build towering skyscrapers.  Nehemiah was called to build WALLS.  The Walls of Jerusalem.  In this 16th book of the Bible, we are brought in on the problem at hand.  The holy city of Jerusalem still lay in ruins and very much in danger.  No walls and gates to protect the ever increasing flow of Jewish returnees.  Nehemiah could have remained in Susa, Persia enjoying the luxuries afforded one in the employ of the King.  Instead, Nehemiah answers the call: he journeys to Jerusalem, rallies the Jewish remnant, organizes the task... and restore the walls of his home city.   Much to talk about as we walk through the Book of NEHEMIAH!!

The Book of EZRA-- Episode #76

Ezra was a Priest.  Ezra was a Jewish captive living in the land of Persia. Ezra was God's Chosen Instrument to lead the Jews back to Jerusalem to rebuild the TEMPLE.  In this episode, we see the PROPHETIC PROMISES fulfilled: Jeremiah's Prophecy that Judah would be in captivity for 70 years... an Isaiah's Prophecy that a foreign King named Cyrus would be the one to issue the Proclamation that the Jew's RETURN to Jerusalem and REBUILD the Temple!!   God uses Ezra and his team in a mighty way to prepare for the coming Messiah!

The Books of CHRONICLES (Episode #75):  
Covering the 65 Chapters (29 + 36) of 1 and 2 Chronicles in one short podcast is no easy feat-- but we try.  The high points of these two books are (at least as far as this podcast is concerned) the lists or 'chronicles' of over 2000 names in the first 12 chapters AND the building of the FIRST TEMPLE by King SOLOMON.  Many other events recorded in the chapters as well... but most listeners will be familiar with the verse found in 2 Chronicles 7 (words spoken by God to the audience at the Dedication of the Temple and words spoken to US today:  If my people, who are called by name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face, then I will hear from Heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land' (2 Chronicles 7:14).  Enjoy this quick journey through the 'Chronicles'.

The Books of 1 and 2 Kings (Episode #75): To adequately cover the 47 chapters of I & 2 Kings... the 42 different Kings (and Queens) mentioned in the books... the prophets who advised the kingdoms... and the 300 years of history covered by these books is, of course, impossible. To UNDERSTAND this critical time in Bible history is, however, an achievable goal. And it is THE GOAL of our podcasts.  Beginning as a United 'States' of Israel under Kings Saul, David and Solomon, a Civil War creates two different countries-- The Northern Kingdom of ISRAEL and the Southern Kingdom of JUDAH. The Books of Samuel (1 & 2) -- Episode #74

Samuel is the last of the Judges and serves as a transition and a KING MAKER! Samuel is responsible for 'anointing' the first 2 Kings of a 'united states' of Israel. The first King is SAUL. We read about him in 1 Samuel. The second King is DAVID. We read about his rise to fame and his interactions with King Saul in the first book... then we read about KING DAVID'S 40 year rule as King of Israel in 2 Samuel. God's desire was NEVER for Israel to have a King.  But Israel's rebellious heart and a desire to 'be like everyone else' brought them to this transition.

The Book of RUTH (Episode #73)
Four intriguing chapters... a love story of an Moabite widow and her mother-in-law set during the time of the Judges. A lady not recognized as anyone if 'note' by her society or ours. But God saw her heart, restored her fortunes... and gave her a lofty position as the Great- grandmother of King David and a descendant of the coming Messiah. The book of Ruth shows us that God is not an inspector or positions.. but our hearts!!

The Book of Judges — Episode #72
After the death of Joshua and before the time of the Kings… there were ‘judges’. The book of Judges is an account of the exploits— the victories and flaws—  of the men and lady whom God ‘raised up’ to bring deliverance and stability to the tribes of Israel. Even today, we can see the same patterns in our culture as we observe in Israel, the struggles as God’s people fail to follow God’s commands.

The Book of Joshua (Episode #71)
The book of Joshua is all about the land— the PROMISED LAND, that is! In this book we see God’s promise to Abraham… made over 400 years earlier… now come to pass.  Joshua leads the armies of Israel to victory— taking control of the Promised Land and then giving to each Tribe their inheritance.  God has kept His Promise.

Episode #70- The Book of Deuteronomy 

There are some memorable ‘farewell speeches’ throughout history. People whose time had come, whose career was ending, whose calling was fulfilled. Such is the book of Deuteronomy. The 34 chapters record Moses’ farewell remarks’ to his people. He reminds them of many important things of God that they have learned through the years. He hands over leadership to his right hand man Joshua— and then he dies. As in life, even in death, Moses is unique. Enjoy your travels through this 5th book of the Bible— Deuteronomy!

The Book of Numbers — Episode #69

The Key to the book of Numbers is CENSUS. Both at the beginning and the end of the book, God asks Moses to take a census… to count the number of men age 20 and over. Between the two ‘countings’ is 40 years of triumphs and failures by God’s people. Through it all, however, is the powerful Priestly Blessing— as power today as when the Priests spoke it over this new Nation. ‘The Lord Bless you and keep you… make his face to shine upon you… and give you peace’!

The Book of Leviticus (Episode #68)

A new nation— the nation of Israel— began as 12 families entering Egypt (70 souls in all). Now, four centuries later, a vast and powerful people of over a million had, under Moses’ leadership, departed the slavery of Egypt.. on their way to a ‘Promised Land’.
To survive as a ‘Jewish Culture’ they must not only have a ‘land’ but also a LAW. And that is the story of LEVITICUS. Leviticus is the God given ‘law’ and ‘culture’ necessary to solidify this new nation.  Hope you enjoy this study of the third book of the Bible— Leviticus.
