Who is William?
A former US Navy SEAL with 26 years of service, William Branum is the founder of NW Recovery. At an early age, William knew he wanted to be part of a team that would push him beyond whatever limits he thought he had and still enjoy the outdoors and all it had to offer. He charged forward and became an Eagle Scout and joined the Navy immediately after graduating High School. After graduating from SEAL Training (BUD/S Class 208), he was stationed in Virginia Beach, VA, then San Diego, CA, and finally Oahu, HI, where he served on multiple SEAL Teams, taught SEAL Sniper School, and deployed around the globe.
As with too many veterans, William suffered from numerous physical injuries and psychological symptoms that negatively impacted his well-being and quality of life. Migraines, severe anxiety, chronic pains, difficulty focusing, difficulty sleeping/falling asleep, and depression are some of the symptoms he struggles with on a daily basis. He tried many prescription medications to help and eventually started to “self-medicate” with alcohol to help with pain and sleep issues.
During his last few years of military service, William started hearing more about the promising benefits of cannabinoids like CBD. Ultimately, he chose to wait until his retirement from the military before exploring this new world of plant-based benefits to help aid in his physical and psychological recovery. Determined to maintain his Top Secret Security clearance after the military, he sought THC-free options of CBD.
Since his discovery of CBD, William has reduced anxiety, improved sleep, less joint pain, and an overall improved quality of life. Today William is focused on sharing the recovery benefits he has experienced through premium quality (THC Free) CBD in hopes that other Veterans and First Responders can also experience their own recovery.

Tue, 21 Feb 2023 - 43min - 81 - EPI 81: Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Questions Answered With Dr. Rand McClain. Testosterone (TRT) For Men & Women, Clomid vs. Enclomiphene, And Increasing Free Testosterone
HRT involves taking hormones to replace those that your body has stopped making or doesn't make enough of. For women, this is usually estrogen and progesterone. For men, it's testosterone. There are various ways to take these hormones – pills, dermal patches or gels, creams, or suppositories.
In this episode, we are joined by an Author and Regenerative and Sports Medicine Doctor, Dr. Rand McClain. He shares his expertise in regenerative medicine and answers burning questions about whether hormone replacement therapy, especially TRT, would be good for you or not. He also talks about the difference between Clomid and Enclomiphene and, finally, just what exactly rapamycin is.
Though nutrition and wellness have been ingrained in Dr. Rand McClain since childhood, his journey to becoming a leader in the alternative and progressive medical treatments has been anything but orthodox. From being the earliest promoted to senior account manager in Deloitte’s history at the time, to his stint as a professional boxer in Argentina, to being accepted to medical school at age 37 after being repeatedly told it was impossible, Dr. Rand has never been a fan of the “status quo.” Dr. Rand’s patients (many of which are A-List celebrities and world-class athletes) come to his practice, Regenerative, and Sports Medicine, in search of the innovative treatments he specializes in. From bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), hyperbaric oxygen therapy, cryotherapy, platelet-rich plasma, and stem cell therapies, Dr. Rand has dedicated the past 35 years to redefining what it means to be in optimal health.
Dr. McClain earned his medical degree at Western University and completed his internship at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine Residency Program (U.S.C. California Hospital) and has worked with some of the best and original innovators in Sports, Rejuvenative, Regenerative (“Anti-Aging”), Cosmetic and Family Medicine.

It’s easy to get confused when it comes to health and nutrition. Even qualified experts often seem to hold opposing opinions, making it difficult to figure out what you should actually be doing to optimize your health.
Sometimes it can feel like maintaining a healthy lifestyle is an overwhelming challenge that doesn’t fit within the realities of daily life. It’s tough to hold down a full-time job, eat well, train for a marathon, make homemade green juice, spend quality time with your loved ones, and meditate for an hour each day. Only healthy living can incorporate all of these things if you want it to, and it doesn’t have to be defined by grandiose displays of health and fitness. In this episode, I share some health tips that I personally follow and give to my clients and other people to optimize health.

For years, she has shared her wisdom, awareness, mastery, and insight through her private practice, book, lectures, workshops, and assisting individuals with life impairments and challenges. Dr. Bryant embarked on a similar journey as the one you are undertaking, assisted by Iyanla Vanzant, Oprah Winfrey, Marriane Williamson, and many more. Dr. Bryant’s passion for healing, encouraging, and empowering others is what led her to become a Doctor of Psychology and Life Coach.
Dr. Bryant attended the Cal State University of Northridge at the age of 17. While there, she obtained a double degree in Psychology and Pan African studies. During her first two years, she was undecided as to what field she should pursue as a career. Organically, she ended up choosing psychology. She still wasn’t quite sure why, however. She didn’t realize what had triggered her interest until she entered the Master’s Program at the University of Phoenix. She was about halfway through the Master’s program, and boom! It hit her! She had A LOT of healing within herself that needed to be done. Dr. Bryant’s desire for self-fulfillment, healing, peace, and balance within herself and others drew her to the field of psychology. Being the overachiever that she is, Dr. Bryant decided to pursue her Doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University.

Tue, 20 Sep 2022 - 41min - 59 - EPI 59: How To Exercise Your Brain & Avoid Cognitive Decline As You Age. Why Some People Have Major Cognitive Decline & Others Don't. With Dr. Tommy Ragnar Wood PhD
The brain is always active, even during sleep. However, certain activities can engage the brain in new ways, potentially leading to improvements in memory, cognitive function, or creativity. Although the brain gets plenty of exercise daily, certain activities may help boost brain function and connectivity. This, in turn, may help protect the brain from age-related degeneration.
Today, Dr. Tommy Wood joins us to talk about his beginnings and what got him where he is now. He talks about the factors that affect or cause cognitive decline and also shares a few recommendations on what food, exercise, or mental activity can help you avoid it.
Tommy Wood is a Senior Fellow in the Pediatrics Department at the University of Washington, and Chief Scientific Officer of Nourish Balance Thrive, an online-based company using advanced biochemical testing to optimize performance in athletes.
Tommy was born in the US to Icelandic and British parents. He was predominantly raised in the UK but also spent periods of time at school in Iceland, Germany, and France. Tommy received a bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences and Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge before studying medicine at the University of Oxford. He worked as a junior doctor in central London for two years after medical school and then moved to Norway to complete a Ph.D. in physiology and neuroscience at the University of Oslo.

When a great idea is born out of frustration, you best believe that it will result in an amazing company. One that is passionate about helping people get ahold of information to improve their health and life. If you are interested in learning about your health and body, this will be a fascinating discussion for you. Joe and I talked about how he founded his companies and how the data from DNA testing can help improve your life significantly.
Joe Cohen won the genetic lottery of bad genes. As a kid, he suffered from inflammation, brain fog, fatigue, digestive problems, anxiety, depression, and other poorly understood issues in conventional and alternative medicine. Frustrated by the lack of good information and tools, Joe decided to embark on a journey of self-experimentation and self-learning to improve his health—something that has since become known as “biohacking.”
Joe has studied health sciences for 17 years and has read over 30,000 PubMed articles. He's given consultations to over 1000 people who have sought his health advice. After completing the pre-med requirements at university, he founded SelfHacked because he wanted to make a big impact in improving global health. He also founded SelfDecode and LabTestAnalyzer, popular genetic and lab software tools to improve health.
Now, Joe regularly speaks at events alongside the world’s top health experts and continues to work on enhancing his company’s products to provide people with access to cutting-edge tools and information designed to optimize health.

Peak Performance Life Peak Performance on Facebook Peak Performance on InstagramThu, 12 May 2022 - 51min - 41 - EPI 41: How To Keep 9% Body Fat Year Round Without Dieting Or Counting Calories
When you change your life and change your eating habits you never have to diet again. Counting calories is not a long term solution. Listen in to learn how I keep 9% body fat year round without dieting or counting calories.
If you’ve been following the podcast for any amount of time you’ll know that I cut out most carbs due to high levels of inflammation in my body. However, you can eat carbs if your body doesn’t react the same way.
The most important thing is to make sure you’re eating clean organic foods that aren’t filled with added sugars and processed with tons of preservatives. Even the meat you eat needs to be clean meat. Grass-fed, pasture raised, cage-free protein is what you should be looking for.
Processed sugars and grain-based proteins are a no go! In fact I even eat very little in the way of fruit unless I’m picking out berries. Most fruits have way more sugar in them than I need and berries have amazing antioxidants.
It’s not all about the daily diet however. I also make sure to move daily. When I’m not moving, I feel terrible.
Listen in to hear what I eat every day, get some recommendations on clean brands you can start incorporating into your diet, and why this is all so important to me. Your health is the most important thing. It doesn’t matter how much money you make if you die too young to enjoy it.
In This Episode:
[00:06] A quick note before we dive into the topic.
[01:59] First things first, I don’t follow a specific diet.
[03:27] Why you shouldn’t just focus on body fat as a whole.
[04:40] Counting calories is not health. Learn more!
[07:05] What I look for when I’m buying food.
[09:19] How do I keep 9% body fat year round without dieting or counting calories?
[12:09] Salt is important to have in your diet if you’re working out heavily.
[14:56] What dinner looks like in my house.
[17:05] The other proteins I’ll source for dinner.
[18:18] All of the food recommendations I’ve made don’t follow any diet. I just eat this way.
[20:20] My number one goal in life.
[23:21] Don’t wait until it’s too late to prioritize your health.
[24:28] Learn more about how I stick to a very low body fat percentage without dieting.
