Thu, 18 Jan 2018 - 02min - 43 - "Why Lies He in Such Mean Estate?"
In 1865 the English hymn writer William Chatterton Dix published “What Child Is This?" Dix paints for us a picture of the birth of Jesus in a town on the margins of ancient Rome, wondering at the mystery of why God would enter into human history in such an obscure place--"Why lies he in such mean estate?"
Dix’s question gets right at the heart of Christian meditation on the nativity of Christ: the mystery of why the Incarnation happened not in a center of power or wealth, but rather amidst poverty, forced migration, and uncertainty. Listen to this reflection from Dr. Tim Muldoon to learn more about the transformative ways that God uses the least among us.

Fri, 06 Oct 2017 - 07min - 36 - First Church Ever Named for Blessed Father Stanley Rother
Dr. Tim Muldoon, Catholic Extension's director of mission education reflects on his time visiting with members of the newly dedicated Blessed Father Stanley Rother Catholic Church mission in Decatur, Arkansas.
In very many cases, members of this church community were drawn to the United States to escape violence in places like El Salvador, Guatemala, or southern Mexico. The promise of work and a safe place to raise a family stands in stark difference to the reality from which many fled. For them, the fact that a man from the United States spent his priestly ministry in the kind of danger from which they themselves escaped is enough to persuade them of his heroic virtue.
