- 277 - 264: Behind the Scenes of Building a Multi-Six-Figure Signature Online Course
Today, I’m doing something NEW on the podcast. I don’t think I’ve ever shared an interview from another person’s podcast with you, but this episode from Mara Kucirek’s podcast (Create a Better Course) was so good that I knew I wanted to share it with you today. If you want to see the nitty-gritty behind the scenes of launching an online course, this is one episode you do not want to miss.
If you haven’t yet, make sure to also listen to episode 261 where I interviewed Mara about all the things “online courses”, from creating them to selling them well.
This interview was especially fun because Mara is a STUDENT of Booked Out Designer (and Podcast Success Blueprint which wasn’t done at the time of this recording). She asked really good questions because NOT ONLY is she brilliant and so strategic when it comes to online courses, but she also has that insider student perspective.
Here’s just a glimpse of what we talked about:
How to get your course off your to-do list and into the worldHow to beta launch your courseLive launching vs. Evergreen modelsI've also just shared a lot of behind-the-scenes on how (and why) I’ve made some of the decisions that have led me to make multi-six figures off of my online course (and enrolled 200+ students without running ads).

Tue, 23 Apr 2024 - 276 - 263: Podcast Equipment Guide: The 5 Pieces of Equipment You Need + How to Start Your Podcast for $90!
I've been producing The Breakthrough Brand podcast for over 5 years now, and let me tell you, it's become one of my absolute favorite parts of my business! Funny enough, I was re-listening to an old podcast episode to prepare myself for a speaking engagement earlier this week (at the time of recording), and I literally talked about how much JOY podcasting was bringing me 20 episodes in. Now 260 episodes later? That’s STILL true for me.
If you're even remotely considering starting a podcast this year, I cannot recommend it enough! But something that often hangs people up when starting a podcast is: what do I really need? What equipment should I buy?
Then you hear about things like audio equalizers, mixers, audio interfaces, headphone amplifiers, acoustic treatments, and cables, and it becomes harder and harder to figure out what you need. But here’s the truth: I do not use fancy equipment! So if you want someone to just TELL YOU what to use (instead of sharing all about the 1,000+ options there are out there), then this is the episode for you!

Tue, 16 Apr 2024 - 275 - 262: 7 Powerful Thoughts/Affirmations for Working Moms
Hey moms, this episode is for you. It can be a lot to be juggling work, motherhood, no matter how many kids you have, how old they are, what type of work you do, how much childcare you have or don't have, it doesn't matter. I often have moments now as a mom (which I've been a mom for about two and a half years now) where I'm genuinely like, “what was I doing before being a mom? Why did I feel so busy?” Because things are so much busier now.
In this episode, I'm going to share with you seven thoughts, or seven affirmations for working moms (whatever you prefer to think of them as!). My hope is that these are thoughts that you can tell yourself throughout your day, throughout all the moments of motherhood and work and that they will encourage you and be a good mindset shift from what you might naturally be thinking during those busy moments. Enjoy!

Tue, 02 Apr 2024 - 273 - 260: 14 Things That Make Growing Your Business MUCH Harder (Your New "To Quit" List)
Whether you're in the early days and months of your business, or you've been at it a while, we all unfortunately do things that make business harder than it has to be. These are things that both new and established business owners all do, and today, we are adding them to your “To Quit” list, because they're taking up your time, energy, and ultimately making growth slower.
Today, I’m sharing 14 things as a business owner that are making your business harder that you may not even realize you're doing. The week this episode airs, I am celebrating eight years of running my business. These are some of the MANY things that I have had to consciously quit in those eight years (and some honestly that I still struggle with quitting even today!). So anyway, this is going to be a great (and FUN!) episode!

Tue, 26 Mar 2024 - 272 - 259: 4 Ways to be BOLDER in Your Faith as a Christian Business Owner (Part Two)
This is PART TWO of last week's episode, with 4 more ways to be bolder in your faith as a Christian business owner!
If you feel like your faith is a secret because you don’t know if it’s ok to share it as a business owner, you’re worried you’ll alienate clients/customers who disagree with you, or maybe you feel God calling you to share but you’re like “what does that practically look like when I’m a photographer? Or a designer? Or a copywriter? Or bookkeeper?” Don’t worry - that’s what we are talking about today.
If you missed last week’s episode, go back and listen because they go together! I shared four ways to bring your faith into your business there, and I am sharing four MORE ways today (that are completely different from last week).

Tue, 19 Mar 2024 - 271 - 258: 4 Ways to Bring God into Your Business as a Christian Business Owner
Today’s episode is inspired by a question I got over and over again in my audience survey last year because a lot of you guys are like me. You are a personal brand business or other type of business but you are not a ministry, and what you do may have literally nothing to do with your faith on paper, but you ARE a Christian business owner and your faith is an important part of who you are and how you show up in the world. It also informs the decisions you make in your business, both the big ones and the small ones.
But maybe you feel like your faith is a secret because you don't know if it's okay to share it as a business owner and you're worried you'll alienate clients or customers who disagree with you. OR - maybe you're feeling like God is calling you to share about your faith, but you're not sure what that looks like when you’re a photographer or a designer (for example!).
So in this episode, I'm sharing four ways to bring your faith in Christ into your everyday work life as a business owner. And stay tuned - we are also doing a part two of this next week where I'm sharing four more ways. Let’s get into it!

Tue, 12 Mar 2024 - 270 - 257: 3 Things I WISH More People Understood About Their Website (From a Designer's Perspective!)
What makes a great website? What makes a dud?
Besides all the obvious things like don’t make your text too small, don’t use 1,000 fonts at once, and things like that… What are the major keys?!
No matter what you do in your work, if you have a website, you should be asking yourself these questions. Today I’m sharing 3 things that I consider TOP things to making a great website, and people often miss them.
I’m calling these “strong opinions”, but this could also be called “unpopular opinions” because these aren’t said enough. I hope this short and sweet episode gives you some business and website ideas to run with!Links Mentioned:

Tue, 27 Feb 2024 - 268 - 255: How I Run a Multiple-Six Figure/Year Business Working Part-Time as a Mom (+ Challenging the 40-Hour Workweek!)
I posted a reel on Instagram all about a week in the life with my schedule in the last year and a half as a working mom who owns a business but works part-time from home. Today, I want to expand on what I explain in that very short 90-second clip to tell you more of the nitty-gritty details about what my week is like running my business, taking care of my son, recording this being very pregnant, and how my team and my husband fit into this.
We have had three days of childcare since November of 2022 and that’s been working well for us. Before that, we had no childcare at all. I know I’ve been asked questions about it so today I want to talk about my work week, what it looks like running a multiple six-figure-year business on part-time hours while I work from home without full-time childcare. And we're also going to talk about that “40 hour work week” and some mindset stuff around that.
In this episode, we are covering:
Where the idea of a “40-hour workweek” even comes from and why entrepreneurs who have “ditched the 9-5” still follow it [6:04]Why I don’t feel like I run my business “part-time” but I DO only work part-time hours [9:53]An EXACT BTS of my weekly schedule with only 3 days/week of childcare [12:13]6 tips or things to consider if you want more “life” in your work-life balance [30:16]I want this episode to show you what has been possible for me and what I believe is possible for you too! Tue, 13 Feb 2024 - 266 - 253: Planning a Social Media Detox? How Shanna Skidmore is Marketing Her Business WITHOUT Chasing the Instagram Algorithm
Have you ever wondered if you could run your business without Instagram? Thinking about a social media detox? How much time would you get back? How would it affectthings like your revenue, your website traffic, and your overall visibility as a business owner? What other marketing tools would you use instead of social media?
As someone who uses Instagram a lot in my marketing, I'm like the rest of us in that I have desired to throw in the towel from time to time, especially after moments like creating a reel that takes an hour to make and then feeling like it did nothing at all for your business. Raise your hand if you've ever been there.
So whether you want to try no Instagram for a few months, no Instagram in your business permanently, or even if you're just like, “Hey, I want to be on this app less and not rely on it so much for my marketing”, this episode is for you. I'm chatting with the wonderful Shannon Skidmore who I just absolutely adore and she opens up a TON about exactly what it looked like for her to be off Instagram since 2017 (while still running a business with a podcast, courses, consulting, and all the things).Shanna really has it figured out when it comes to what it looks like to REALLY break up with Instagram. And if you don't know Shanna, she's a former Fortune 100 financial advisor, turned business consultant educator and international speaker with clients and students in more than 26 countries. I can’t wait for you to hear her on the podcast today!

Tue, 16 Jan 2024 - 262 - 249: How to Host a Yearly Team Vision Meeting
Today, I’m sharing ALL about team vision meetings. I rarely hear people talking about this, but personally I've found it be incredibly impactful in my own business. So, naturally, I wanted to share it with you all!
What I mean by team vision meetings is a gathering to kick off the year, close a year, start a new quarter, or even halfway through the year. It's where you lay out the exact direction we're heading in as a team!
In these meetings, we:
discuss the business goals and how each person plays a role in achieving them review data from the previous quarter or year and interpret what it means for me identify what's working, what's not, and where we're headedIn my opinion, team vision meetings are not just for large companies (where these types of meetings are more common). it's also great for us business owners who have small teams, whether they are all contractors or partly remote. In this episode, I'm sharing exactly how I do this!

In this episode, I’m sharing all about having a word of the year for your business! I've alluded to having a word of the year (I actually had THREE words of the year) on the show many times so if you're a regular listener, you've heard me talk about this already but today I’m sharing WHAT those words are, why I picked them, why this matters, and how you can do the same!
In this short episode, I’m covering:
Why your business word of the year and personal word of the year should be separate
What my words of the year for 2023 were (I had three!)
How to choose YOUR word of the year
How I actually USED by words of the year to guide my decisions
And so much more. On top of that, I’m going to share practical ways that having a word of the year has positively impacted my business this year, and I'll also give you tips on how to keep your word of the year at the forefront of your mind for the entire 365 days. I know how easy it is to choose a word and forget about it. But not this year!

Tue, 05 Dec 2023 - 257 - 244: The Most Wonderful Time of Year: How to Actually REST This Christmas Season as a Business Owner
This episode is a recast from 2022, aired at the same time of year last year. You guys loved it then, and I loved it too! It was such a fun episode to record. I just finished listening to the whole thing on a walk before I re-recorded the intro. I decided to re-air it because it's as relevant now as it was a year ago. Let's talk about what this episode is and then dive right into it.
Today’s episode is a fun friend-to-friend chat about Christmas, and I am certainly bringing the Christmas ENERGY in this episode. I’m totally a “Christmas person” and I start getting excited about Christmas in July typically (not kidding). But, let’s talk about the elephant in the room…
Resting and actually taking time off for the holidays doesn’t always come easy as business owners.
There’s often a lot to do to “close out the year” and at the same time you’re ready to dream about the next year in your business, PLUS you have the everyday to do’s of life to keep up with. You also might be listening to this right after Black Friday which can be really exhausting as a business owner. Resting and slowing down can feel really hard.
That’s what we’re talking about today. I’m sharing with you:
1. My time-off and rest strategy for Christmas that I do basically every year, and how you can do this yourself as well! (We’re talking PRACTICAL planning here!)
2. Holiday bucket list ideas for you to do to strengthen your faith and enjoy the month of December, even in its chaos.
3. Tradition ideas – I was a NEW mom when this first aired, and even still I don’t have tons of traditions to share for with kiddos. But, I am sharing some traditions you could try with your spouse that we do and some family tradition ideas I love!
4. I’m sharing Advent resources, books, other podcast episodes, and things I think will help you out as you plan your own holiday season.
So, that is our agenda. This is a GOOD EPISODE, if you often tell me that you wish I did more personal content – this is it. I’m excited to chat. Go get a peppermint mocha, a sugar cookie latte, or some wine and let’s dive into it!

Now, are you ready to get your new website up fast? Today, I’m sharing my TOP tips to getting yourself a new website my new years instead of letting that website template you bought sit on your virtual shelf. After 5 years of selling Showit templates - there have been some recurring themes between those that get their website up FAST (like within days!) and those who take many months to make their site live.

Tue, 21 Nov 2023 - 254 - 242: Is Your Website Template Guilty of These 3 SEO Mistakes?
As a designer, I absolutely love talking about SEO, and I incorporate SEO strategy into every template and website I design. It might surprise you, but before you even input your own information, a website template can already be SEO-friendly or be a disaster that you'll have to fix later. While most SEO strategies are implemented after you customize the template with your own content, images, and SEO settings, there are certain things you can look for in templates to ensure they're SEO-friendly before you even buy them.
Today, I'm sharing three common SEO mistakes that website templates might make, along with tips for how to check them on your own template and website to ensure you're on the right track.
Basically - get ready to gain some major SEO knowledge because this episode is going way beyond the basics. Even if you already have a website template from me (so you know your website is SEO-friendly!), you'll still learn some cool SEO stuff that will benefit you as a business owner by listening to this episode.

Tue, 07 Nov 2023 - 252 - 240: An Easy Hack for More Satisfying Work Days
We all have those days where we reach the end and think, "Wow, that was an awesome day!" Or maybe it's more like, "Wow, that day really sucked. I'm ready for a fresh start tomorrow." Often, we just move on without asking ourselves what made the day good or bad. We might acknowledge it if something big happened, but we often miss the opportunity to appreciate the small but amazing days.
I believe that It's important to take note of what makes it good or bad, especially on those mundane days. Then, we can try to do more of what made it good and less of what made it bad. That’s what this episode is about today!
I've been having a mix of days with high highs and low lows lately, especially as I'm nearing the end of the first trimester of my pregnancy (at the time of recording). But there's this little practice that has been really helpful to me, so I wanted to share it with you. Enjoy!

Tue, 31 Oct 2023 - 251 - 239: 4 REAL Fears You Might Have About Starting a Podcast (+ My Honest Thoughts About Whether Podcasting is Right for You)
If you're reading this live, my new course Podcast Success Blueprint is now open for enrollment! Join now as a founding member and get exclusive limited-time discounts and bonuses. Get all the details at https://elizabethmccravy.com/psb
As you think about starting a podcast, you might have hesitations and questions like: do I have time for it? Who am I to start a podcast? Do I have anything to say that people would actually want to hear? Is the tech going to overwhelm me too much? Will I even enjoy podcasting? What if I quit and people see me as a failure? How will people even find my podcast? Am I articulate enough to do a voice only medium? Am I making the right choice on the tech I'm considering buying and the hosting platform I'm choosing? There are a lot of questions that come up!
On top of the questions, you might have thoughts like: I'm afraid no one will listen and I'll be embarrassed. I'm afraid people will judge me thinking that I think I'm someone special to do this. I have too much imposter syndrome to start. Or maybe you feel like you’re not good at talking because of an accent or English not being your first language. You might also be thinking things like: I'm worried about the time it takes. As a busy mom, I'm worried I'll overthink everything and never get content out there or want to delete every episode after I record it. Maybe you're overwhelmed by making the right choices if you're going to invest your time into doing that.
These are actually all real people's hesitations around starting a podcast (that came straight from the people who filled out my interest survey for my new podcast course). And these are also some of the things I personally felt when I started my own podcast four and a half years ago. Today, I’m sharing some encouragement for you if you are thinking about starting a podcast and sharing 4 of the most common fears and how to overcome them!

Mon, 23 Oct 2023 - 250 - 238: The Name for My New Online Course on Podcasting (DUN. DUN!) and, a Look BTS of My Course Naming Process
First, I want to tell you… I officially have a NAME FOR MY NEW COURSE! If you didn’t know… I’m launching a new course on podcasting next week and today, I’m going to share the name (and the very long journey to get to it!). If you’ve ever named a course before, you know how challenging it is. I nearly drove my husband Adam crazy with every single bump in the road as I came up with a name that I truly believe reflects what you’ll get inside the course.
In this episode, I’m sharing:
What it was like naming my new podcast course (and sharing WHAT name I decided on!)
7 steps that I took to brainstorm and then vet each name I liked
Helpful reminders as you set out to name your own thing (whether that be a course or a business or something else entirely!)
If you’ve ever struggled with naming anything (or just want a peek behind-the-scenes of some of my podcast course creation!), you're going to love this episode! Let me know what you think!

Wed, 18 Oct 2023 - 249 - 237: 3 Real Ways to *Actually* Make Money from Your Podcast
Most podcasters don't earn as much as they could from their show. In fact, many smaller podcasts don't make any money at all, which is one reason why so many podcasters quit. Today, I’m talking about how making money from podcasting goes beyond just getting sponsors for ads. For smaller podcasts with less than a thousand downloads per episode, you likely won’t make enough on sponsorships for running a show to be “worth it” which is one of the reasons so many podcasters quit.
Today, I’m going to share three real ways to actually monetize your podcast. Then, next week, I'll be launching my new course on podcasting (I’m opening the doors on October 23rd!). In the course, I'll be covering various ways to make money from your podcast, with a focus on creating a big impact, generating more sales, and expanding your platform. While podcasting is enjoyable, it does require financial and time investment, so it's important to not just focus on downloads and chart rankings, but also on how your podcast connects with your business and makes a meaningful impact.
In this episode, I’m sharing THREE ways to make money through your podcast but there are actually TEN ways I make money through my show that I’ll discuss in detail in the course.

Tue, 17 Oct 2023 - 248 - 236: Why We Need to Share Boldly in Our Faith (and How Podcasting Can Help) With Brooke Jefferson
This episode is a 2 for 1! I’m interviewing Brooke Jefferson on how to share more boldly in your business as a Christian business owner AND picked her brain on starting a podcast (she has two shows - with one of them almost at half a million views!)
In this episode, we talk about:
Why we should infuse our faith in our business instead of keeping them separate How we can invite God into our businesses more intentionally What to do if you are nervous about sharing your faith boldly (but feel called to do it!)Then, we switch gears and talk about podcasting:
We talk about Brooke’s incredible journey starting not one, but two podcasts What she’s doing differently the second time Whether or not podcasting is too saturated How guest interviews affected her podcast And even a little BTS into her own podcasting schedule!Basically, in this episode, we talk about how to infuse your faith into your businesses and feel confident when boldly sharing about it AND we also explore the ins and outs of podcasting and talk about what it takes to grow a successful podcast in 2023 (even if you feel the podcast landscape is oversaturated). It was such a fun conversation and I know you are going to love it!

Tue, 26 Sep 2023 - 245 - 233: How to Price for Profitability as a Showit Designer
This is a bit of a unique episode, because it's actually a masterclass I taught for Showit Designers inside of Showit's new Designer Hub! I did the video training version of this class last week, and I asked Showit's team "Hey! Do you mind if I share this with my podcast community too?" and they said "Heck yes!" So, here we are… with you getting to learn from this awesome training while on the go!
This is a JAM PACKED episode/training all about pricing yourself as a designer. And, these strategies apply to you whether you’re doing Showit, Wix, Squarespace, WebFlow, Kajabi, WordPress,or something else!
In this training, I'm talking about things like when/how to raise your prices as a designer, how to choose your prices to begin with, why "charging your worth" is keeping you broke, how to display your prices on your website, and so much more. We go deep into pricing strategies and go quick! This isn’t a fluffy training where it’s basically a pitch. I’m actually just teaching.
If you want to see the slides and video version with my face in it of this training, go join the Showit Designer Hub. It’s free to join, and it’s Showit's home for all Showit designers to find designer resources and community support. It's available to any designers with an active Showit subscription! This is DIFFERENT than the Showit designer Facebook group.

Fri, 08 Sep 2023 - 242 - 230: The One-Day Workweek: Building a Multiple 6-Figure/Year Business as a Stay-at-Home Mom with Courtney Lazar from System
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to just work ONE day per week? And run a successful 6-figure business? Courtney Lazar (our go to systems expert in episode 226 - make sure to listen to that one if you haven’t yet!), is back on the podcast but this time she’s coming to us as a mom to a toddler with another baby boy on the way, sharing exactly how she built her business as an agency model that allows her to work just ONE day a week (and completely unplugs from work the other 6 days). She considers herself a stay at home mom on days when she’s not working!
In this episode, we dive into:
How does she manage to grow her business while working just one day a week?
What does the business look like on the back end?
What does her childcare look like?
What's her exact work schedule?
How did she scale her business with her team and truly step into that CEO role in her business?
There are many valuable tips packed into this short and sweet episode. So even if you're not a mom or your children are adults now, don't worry! There's still so much here for you. As business owners, I think most of us aspire to work less and operate in a CEO capacity. This episode provides insights on scaling with a team and creating systems so you're not constantly caught up in the day-to-day operations. Doesn’t that sound good? Tune in now!

Tue, 29 Aug 2023 - 240 - 228: 5 Shifts I Made To Go From Freelancer to CEO When I Started My Business
If you're a new business owner or still in the season where you prefer to call what you do a side hustle, freelance work, or a hobby, this is for you. I’m sharing 5 strategies to help you step into a CEO role, even if that term feels silly to you now. It's okay to feel new and uncertain but to grow your business, you need to act like a business owner. That means letting go of the freelancer and hobbyist mentality and taking things more seriously. Don’t worry - I’m going to help you do just that today!
I originally recorded a similar episode to this in 2019, inspired by this quote: "Treat your business like a business and it'll PAY you like a business. Treat your business like a hobby and it will COST you like a hobby."
In fact, at that time, I had a post go viral on Instagram that said, “You can’t run your business like a freelancer and expect results like a CEO.” - something I still agree with today! Four years later (after working on my own business and with many other businesses!), I’m back to share more insights on this incredibly important topic! This episode is a must-listen!

In this episode, we're diving into the topic of working with a team and the importance of effective communication - especially when things are not going well!
If the thought of growing, managing, and leading a team sounds overwhelming to you, let me just say this: I had the vision of being a solopreneur when I first started out, but over time, I came to realize that having a team is a game-changer for any business.
However, I also know that managing people, whether they are contractors or employees, can be challenging, especially when it comes to remote teams.
In this episode, I'll be sharing three strategies to enhance communication with your team. Whether you're facing difficulties or everything seems to be going smoothly, these tips will help improve company culture, team communication, and your relationship with individual members. These small tweaks can make a big difference in managing people and building a thriving team. Enjoy!

Tue, 01 Aug 2023 - 235 - 224: Launching an Unaligned Offer: 8 Lessons Learned from Closing My Membership After Only a Few Months
In the previous episode, I shared the mistakes I made during the creation and launch of my membership (and explained why I eventually chose to shut it down!). While I briefly touched on it before, I wanted to go deeper in this episode to explain why I don’t regret the experience AT ALL. In today's podcast, I’m sharing the eight lessons I learned throughout the whole experience and how it’s impacted the way I’m operating my business now.
These lessons aren't limited to those already thinking about launching a membership either – I believe they're also incredibly helpful for anyone running a business. They aren’t exclusive to a membership model! I talk about offer gaps, holding the vision as a business owner, selling access to myself and so much more.

Tue, 25 Jul 2023 - 234 - 223: Why I Closed My 170-Member Paid Membership (+ My 3 Biggest Mistakes!)
In the online space, we often talk about the good without the bad, right? When we hear about memberships, they are often praised as recurring and consistent revenue and when we think about memberships failing, it’s often because we didn’t “sell” enough. These things were NOT necessarily the case for me, and while I could have “fixed” the mistakes I made, I ultimately decided to close my 170 person membership last year. While I don’t regret it (starting it OR ending it), this episode shares the behind-the-scenes pretty vulnerably and I hope you enjoy it!
In this episode, I’m talking about all things memberships, including:
What mine was (Breakthrough Brand All Access)
How I created and launched it
Why it ultimately didn't work
How I decided to ultimately shut it down
3 mistakes I made along the way (and how to avoid them).
Make sure to tune in next week too for some of the biggest lessons I learned when launching a membership!

Tue, 18 Jul 2023 - 233 - 222: Peek BTS of the Showit Customer Support Team: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know But Couldn't Ask
I've been eagerly anticipating this episode's release. If you're a fellow Breakthrough Brand podcast enthusiast, you'll already know how much I adore Showit. As a long-time user and design partner, I even dream in its interface! I can't help but gush about it. However, I understand that website platforms, including Showit, can sometimes feel overwhelming. That's why I invited Showit support Pro, Parker Pearson, to join me for a conversation about all things Showit.
And hey - if you are listening to this in real time, head over to my Instagram page for one of the biggest giveaways I’ve done yet! Parker and I are giving away an entire YEAR subscription to Showit, plus a $400 gift card to my template shop. Amazing, right?!
This interview isn't your typical technical setup guide. It's way more intriguing and helpful than that. We talk about things like:
What's the number one question the Showit support team gets in their inbox? What's a day like working at the Showit office? What does Parker love most about Showit? How Showit has changed over the years, since he first started as a team member? What are some hangups and headaches around launching your site and how can we better deal with those? How to get faster and better support from Showit's team?We also just talk a little bit about who Parker is (a real person that you have likely had a conversation with on Showit tech support!). He’s kind of the “extroverted” face of Showit tech support, and honestly, he really is just amazing! It’s so nice hearing from someone “behind the scenes”!

Want to know EXACTLY what I do each month in my business? Want these 8 steps in a step-by-step guide format with screenshots and examples? Get the FREE guide at https://elizabethmccravy.com/profit-first-guide
Last week, I shared my honest review of Profit First, since implementing it into my own business just over six months ago. If you haven’t listened yet, go back and listen to it because I share all about the percentage breakdown, how I set up my accounts, and how I use it to get an “at a glance” view of my business finances.
Today, I'm excited to share with you my detailed process of using Profit First accounting in my business each month. My system of doing it might be slightly different from what author Mike Michalowicz suggests in his book, and I’m also going to share a few extra things like my sales tracker in ClickUp. Essentially, I am going to take you on a deep dive into my process, sharing each step along the way. If you love a behind-the-scenes look into someone’s business and have been thinking about implementing Profit First (or just looking to take your financial prowess up a notch, I’m sure you are going to love today’s episode!

Tue, 27 Jun 2023 - 230 - 219: 6 Months into Using the Profit First Accounting Method - An Honest Review + Tips!
If you’ve been in the online space for a while, you may have heard of “doing Profit First”, which is based on the popular book Profit First by Mike Michalowicz. It’s a way of taking your profit first (literally) instead of looking at your profit as “what’s left over” after all of your expenses have been paid.
When I started using this accounting method in December, I knew I had to share it with my podcast community. In this episode (part one of two), I'm going to share what Profit First is and how I set it up for my business. But listen - if you're new to Profit First, that's okay! I'll explain it all to you. And if you're not a fan of accounting, I get it. But I promise that in this episode I am going to make it practical and share what's working for me financially right now.
I’m sharing all about setting up Profit First accounts, my different percentages, how I close out my finances each month, and more. There's a lot to cover… so get comfortable! And hey, if you love this topic, be sure to tune in next week for part two, where I'll go even more in-depth and walk you through exactly how I manage my finances at the end of each month.

Tue, 13 Jun 2023 - 228 - 217: 5 Expert Tips for Becoming an Unforgettable Podcast Guest in 2023
I’ve been a guest on MANY podcasts at this point over the last 7 years of owning my business. I still remember being absolutely terrified before my first interview. I came prepared with about 4 pages of outlined notes and had literally rehearsed answers to the questions I knew I’d be asked! Not kidding! Who can relate?
Now, YEARS later, I can go on a show and feel confident in my answers with very little preparation (in comparison, anyway!). But I still make sure I’m always showing up for interviews prepared and trying to be a good podcast guest because truly, it matters. This person (the podcast host - whomever it is!) is allowing you to be in front of their people with your message. It’s worth thinking about ahead of time, and coming to the conversation energized and ready to SERVE! (And being ready to serve once the episode airs days or months later too.)
Today, I’m sharing:
5 game-changing strategies to help you elevate your podcast guest game What you should include on a media page to make it easier for hosts! Before you pitch to be a podcast guest, what you need to do first A pre-episode task list you can use every time And so much more!I’ve also made you something to make your life as a podcast guest and speaker even easier. Today on the podcast, we are talking about building wealth as women. To be honest, I don’t believe this is talked about enough. So often, the focus is simply on making more money, but what happens after that? After you pay yourself, what do you do with that money? I interviewed Erinn Bridgman, who has built a successful real estate business and is a money mindset coach for female entrepreneurs.
In this episode, we talked about:
How she used funds from her photography business to fund her real estate business in the beginning Her journey in real estate investing so far (from her first home flip to now managing 20 doors) How our money mindset affects us as women, especially The difference between being profitable and being wealthy How (and when) we can raise our salary as business owners Advice for going into real estate investing with family and friendsAnd so much more. Seriously, I LOVED this interview, and I know you will too. Whether you are interested in real estate or not, I loved having her share her perspective on building long-term wealth on the podcast today!

Tue, 02 May 2023 - 222 - 211: My Top 3 Hacks for Making It EASY to Make Money as an Affiliate
Affiliate income is an AMAZING way to earn extra money as a business owner. If you want to share things you love with people who may already be asking you about those things, affiliate income is for you.
And here’s the thing: for years now, my business has earned multiple five figures a year from affiliate income alone. I've even had years where it's been over a hundred thousand dollars of revenue coming from affiliate income alone. I’m telling you that for two reasons:- What I’m doing to make affiliate income WORKS If it looks like I'm not spending tons of time and energy working on making affiliate income, it's because I'm not.
I'm not saying affiliate marketing is passive, but it is more passive than other types of income we typically have as business owners. And today, I’m going to share 3 hacks to make adding an affiliate income revenue stream to your business even easier.
And a little reminder from a website designer? You’ll make more affiliate income when you have a great website.
Not only are you more likely to get approved by affiliate companies that have stricter programs when you have a website, but you'll also be set up to make more affiliate income when you can blog and create landing pages for the companies that you partner with. My full website templates all come equipped with an amazing blog design that is set up to support you whether you're like writing your first three blog posts ever or you're transferring over 200+ blog posts to your new Showit website.
As a blogger and podcaster myself, I put so much strategy into thinking through the blog templates. I make sure I’m creating thoughtfully designed sidebars to maximize space so that readers can know whether or not they want to click into a post to read it, and make sure that each layout has clear search functionality so that people can find what they need within your content. I also always design thoughtful 404 pages for when you have a broken link.
If that sounds like what you need right now, use the code BBPODCAST for 10% off ANY template from my shop.Links Mentioned

Tue, 18 Apr 2023 - 220 - 209: How To Get IN THE ZONE When Working On A Design Project
Designers - today’s episode is for YOU. Whether it's designing a website, creating a brand, or even just a simple graphic for a blog post, sometimes our creative minds just hit a wall. Maybe you can’t focus, or you just don’t feel like it, or you are actively looking for the inspiration, but you just can’t find it.
Recently, I launched a new template, and it got me thinking about my own creative process again. As a designer, there are times when we need to get in the zone and really focus on the project at hand, right? For example, when I was creating the new template, there were two times that I really had to get in the zone for an extended period of time.
First, was during the “idea stage”. I had to think about the fonts and colors, the vibe, who is it for, and so much more. Later on, I had to make big tweaks and envision what cool things we could do within the template.
In both situations, I needed to be creative and get in the zone, which is one of my favorite things to do as a designer anyway. It's a treasure to be able to turn off other business hats and focus solely on the design project. I know many of you listening feel the same way because you love being designers and you love the work you do. So today, I’m sharing 5 tips for getting in the zone when working on a design project.
I would love to see how you make it your own, so make sure to find me on Instagram @elizabethmccravy and share what works for you when you get in the zone.BOOKED OUT WEEK: The Best Time to Join Booked Out Designer

I'm so honored to have Angie McPherson on the podcast today! She's a long time listener of this podcast, an amazing brand photographer, educator for photographers, and just an incredible hype girl for creative business owners.
Angie and I got to meet in real life in January at the Creative Educator Conference in Dallas. We both were speakers and sat next to each other the whole time. We talked business a lot at the event, and I was like “She is brilliant, and I need her on my podcast to talk about marketing!” So, here we are!
We go a lot of directions in this episode, so there’s truly something here for every business owner. We talk about Angie's business journey, what she sees working right now in digital products and course marketing, repurposing content for YouTube, selling on social media in a non-sleazy way, Facebook groups for your courses, marketing to multiple audiences, YouTube Shorts, launch strategies, working mom advice, and so much more! This is basically a really fun marketing strategy chat with 2 women who love marketing. Enjoy!

Tue, 28 Feb 2023 - 213 - 202: Q&A with Elizabeth — My Current Work Schedule, Best Blogging Tip, Long Term Business Vision, Mom Guilt, Where My Customers Come From, and So Much More!
In my 2022 end-of-year survey, I gave you the option to ask me ANYTHING… and today’s episode is just a taste of the (over 150!) questions that came in. In no particular order, I’m tackling 11 of my favorite “ask me anything” questions today, including:
What's the worst thing about your career? (I share THREE things I could live without!) What are the tiny secrets to blogging - things nobody ever talks about? What are the top books I’ve read this year so far? Where do you see yourself (professionally) when Colin is 18? What are some of the big dreams you have for yourself and your business? Where do most of your clients come from? Social, referrals, etc. and what is the one thing you do consistently that brings you the most business? How is Colin's school going? How do you handle mom guilt/missing him? What does work/life balance look like for me right now? What do you do for workouts? Do you think you'll have any more kiddos? How will that impact the structure of your business? What’s your favorite brand of jeans? (these ones are also linked below!) Do you ever regret going into business for yourself? As you can tell, things got both random and personal in a way I truly always love. Some of these were rapid-fire questions, and some of them I went quite deep on! I can’t wait for you to listen in and then tell me what you all think!

Tue, 21 Feb 2023 - 212 - 201: Get Your Showit Site Found on Google with Sara Dunn
Wondering what’s working in SEO right now? What does the Google algorithm want from your website? How does all the new technology like Ai writing affect blog content? What role does video play in SEO right now? How do you do your SEO page settings in Showit in a way that’ll actually work? What common mistakes might you be making with your SEO? Is Showit bad for SEO?!
We are covering it all and a lot more in today’s interview with Sara Dunn from Sara Does SEO. Sara is a wealth of information with SEO, and I just love how she so clearly explains things. I actually worked with her and her team in my own business a few years ago and I can attest that she’s the real deal. Whether you’re on the first page of Google OR you don’t even know what SEO means, this episode is for you. We’re covering it all!
Sara Dunn is a Wedding SEO Specialist for wedding planners, photographers, venues, and other wedding professionals who want their websites to rank higher on Google. (And, hey, I’ve worked with her too as a website designer!) She has a knack for making SEO easy to understand, and she’s created a unique SEO Framework that simplifies what it takes to get your business in front of your dream clients.
* Need a website to go with that SEO strategy? *
Want a website that’s set up behind the scenes to help you rank higher on Google? My Showit website templates can help. One thing a lot of people don’t realize about website templates is that if the designer sets things up sloppy on the back end it can hurt your SEO. I’m talking about things like your advanced tag settings, the way your canvases are set up, the stacking order of your objects, how much opportunity there is for text on a page, and more. Honestly — it’s a lot of technical stuff that you probably don’t want to be thinking about when you’re building your website. So, I thought about it all, and double checked myself multiple times so that you don’t have to.
You can find all of my SEO-friendly templates at http://elizabethmccravy.com/shop. There are sales pages, podcast pages, full website templates, and so much more waiting for you there. And as a Breakthrough Brand Podcast listener, you can use the code “BBPODCAST” for 10% off any template. So, get your template, apply what Sara and I are talking about, you’ll be set to sail to page one.

Tue, 14 Feb 2023 - 211 - 200: 6 Habits That Have Transformed My Business
For this milestone episode, I wanted to share six habits that have transformed my business and have absolutely helped me reach episode two hundred. Inspired by a talk by Brenda Burchard, he encouraged us to look at our own habits and whether or not they are serving us.
As I started to reflect, there were six habits that stuck out to me that have served my business time and time again so I wanted to share them all with you today (and talk through how you might be able to add them to your own business, if you feel like they would serve you too!). Don’t get me wrong, I have PLENTY of bad habits like everybody else and that might be a fun episode to do in the future too. But today, I’m going to focus on the good and celebrate with you.
By the way, if you are a new podcaster or thinking about starting your own show, I want to encourage you and say that this is easily one of my favorite things to do in my own business. In the shop, we have podcast templates (linked below!) and you can use the code BBPODCAST to save 10% off today. I would love to support you as you get started!
Whether you have been listening to the podcast since day one, or you are a brand new listener today, I want to just take a minute to thank you for being here. If you haven’t yet, please leave a review. It not only helps this podcast rank but I legitimately love hearing your thoughts and get giddy every time a new one comes in. I am so incredibly grateful for you and am already looking forward to our next two hundred episodes together!
After you’ve listened in, I would love to hear what habits have served you well in business (and ones that you might be considering adding to your own business this year!). Make sure to connect with me over on Instagram - I would love to hear from you!

Tue, 07 Feb 2023 - 210 - 199: 4 Encouraging Bible Verses For When Business Feels Overwhelming and Uncertain
Let’s all be honest: business can be really hard. Even after seven years in business, I still have plenty of hard days in my own business and days (or even just moments) where business feels overwhelming and uncertain. Today, I want to share with you 4 encouraging bible verses for when hard times come, and I hope that these will comfort you whether you are a Christian business owner or not. And, I’m not just reading the Bible verses, I’m talking through them with you as well to help you apply it to your life right now!
If you have been struggling to guard your heart against negative thoughts or hurtful reviews, or you find yourself turning to Google before you turn to God, I want to encourage you to acknowledge what you are giving power to and why. With the second two scriptures, I want to encourage you to come back to God, seek him in all things, and to let go and rest. I know it can be hard sometimes.

Tue, 17 Jan 2023 - 207 - 196: Your Business Doesn't Have to be “Full Time” to be Successful (Why Side Hustles Are AMAZING!)
Ever felt the pressure to quit your day job if you’re “really all in” on your business dreams? Maybe you believe you have to hate your 9 to 5 if you’re a “true entrepreneur”? There is a major pressure (in online business especially) on new or aspiring business owners to quit their day job, give 2 weeks notice, and “abandon all things” if you ACTUALLY care about your business dreams. Oh and, of course, when you do all of that — you have to set the goal of making a 6-figure income. That is fine for some people, but I don’t believe everyone is called to that.
Today we’re talking about how you don’t have to be full time to be successful in your business, and why that idea is a fallacy. And additionally, I have 6 reasons why it can actually be a GOOD thing if your business is your side hustle.
So whether you’re dreaming of starting a business, side hustling right now at your 9 to 5, or have been at it for years, this episode is for you. I’m covering it all, and newer business owners, you’ll especially want to tune into this one!

Tue, 10 Jan 2023 - 206 - 195: If Being a Mom and a Business Owner Feels Really Hard, Listen to This with Joy Michelle
Mama friends, I believe this episode is the encouragement you need as we kick off another year of business, another year of motherhood, and another year of wearing A LOT of hats. I’m chatting with Joy Michelle, she’s a photographer turned YouTuber and business coach. (And a long time listener of this podcast!) She’s got 2 kiddos, Clara and Lewis, and she has been married to her high school sweetheart Felipe for over 10 years. Joy loves sharing all that she has learned about building a business while also being a present mom, and she is someone I have really loved learning from personally in my first year as a mom and business owner. Her podcast Called to Both is AMAZING, and I was a guest on a compilation episode (Episode #17 of her show).
Joy and I are talking about motherhood and business — about the ups and downs, the struggles, the joys, and encouragement in it all. We talk about things like what it looks like to be called to both motherhood and business and how we can navigate that well, what Joy’s work week is like as a working mom, the struggle of time management as working moms and tips there, advice for the mom feeling burnt out on her business or burnt out on motherhood.
Important Note: We actually recorded this at the end of August 2022. So, a few months ago! I’m just airing it now because after the conversation, I had the thought that this would be a great episode to kick off the new year with. But, when you hear us reference our kids ages, just know, they’re all around 4 months older now! I hope this conversation blesses you and that you can step into your calling gracefully as a mama who feels called to both.

Tue, 13 Dec 2022 - 203 - 192: How to Use Paid Stock Photography to Completely Up Level Your Brand
Today we’re diving into a MUCH requested topic — the visual side of your marketing and business — a.k.a. the images and videos you use on your website and throughout your marketing. This is so important, right? We know that. We are visual creatures and that is true now more than ever. Gone are the days where you can have a website with no images or social media or any other part of your business without using images. The images and videos we use in our businesses express who we are as a brand, they might resonate with our buyers or they might not, and they are a vital part of content creation which we know drives sales.
This episode covers:
- Why your business needs stock photos
- WHAT a stock photo is (and where you might see them)
- How stock photos are different from customized brand photography
- What to look for when using stock photography (and what to avoid)
- My favorite stock photography company (Yes, I’ll just tell you exactly what I use so you can use it too.)
- Where I recommend using stock photography versus photos customized to your brand (and what I do in my own business for this)
- How to integrate stock photos and brand photos seamlessly into your marketing!

Tue, 06 Dec 2022 - 202 - 191: The Most Wonderful Time of Year: How to Actually REST This Christmas Season as a Business Owner (Taking Time Off, Holiday Bucket Lists, and Business Dreaming for 2023)
Today’s episode is a fun friend-to-friend chat about Christmas, and I am certainly bringing the Christmas ENERGY in this episode. I’m totally a “Christmas person” and I start getting excited about Christmas in July typically (not kidding). But, let’s talk about the elephant in the room… Resting and actually taking time off for the holidays doesn’t always come easy as business owners. There’s often a lot to do to “close out the year” and at the same time you’re ready to dream about the next year in your business, PLUS you have the everyday to do’s of life to keep up with.
That’s what we’re talking about today. I’m sharing with you:
- My time-off and rest strategy for Christmas that I do basically every year, and how you can do this yourself as well! (We’re talking practical planning here!) Holiday bucket list ideas for you to do to strengthen your faith and enjoy the month of December, even in its chaos. Tradition ideas – I’m totally a NEW mom, and I don’t have tons of traditions to share for with kiddos. But, I am sharing some traditions you could try with your spouse that we do and some family tradition ideas I love!

What makes a great website? What makes a dud? Besides all the obvious things like don’t make your text too small, don;t use 1,000 fonts at once and things like that… What are the major keys?! No matter what you do in your work, if you have a website — you should be asking these questions. Today I’m sharing 3 things that I consider top things to making a successful website, and they are things people often miss. Tue, 08 Nov 2022 - 198 - 187: Real Talk: It's Ok to Not Always Be Growing Your Business
This episode is the short encouragement that maybe you need today, and it is the encouragement I’ve needed a lot in my season of business. And that is that it’s OKAY to not be growing your business. It’s ok to stay put. It’s ok to even “go backwards”. It’s ok to say no to really good opportunities. It’s ok to make less money than you did last month or last year. It’s ok to work less. Simply put: You don’t always have to be growing. And, we’re talking about this often “untold truth” on today’s episode. Press play for the encouragement! I hope this blesses you and encourages you in whatever season you’re in right now.

Today I’m chatting with Katelyn Dekle from Launch the Damn Thing. Katelyn and I first connected when she heard me on James Wedmore’s podcast and she sent me the world’s sweetest email. Thu, 20 Oct 2022 - 192 - 181: 2 MUST HAVE Contract Clauses For Designers (Shhh…These Special Clauses Will Help You Make More Money!)
CONTRACTS…OMG. Do they make your heart beat faster? Maybe you wrote yours yourself and that makes you nervous. Or, maybe your contract is so confusing that you yourself don’t even understand what you’re saying or how to enforce it if needed. Or, the worst… maybe you don’t have a contract at all, and you’re just kinda hoping for the best. Wherever you are — no shame. Seriously. But, I can tell you you need a contract that you understand, is comprehensive enough to protect you, and that is custom to your design business needs.
In today's episode, I’m sharing 2 contract clauses in particular that designers need to have that are very specific to your design business. These are ones you might not think about until it’s “too late” and aren’t ones you see mentioned everyday. And even more specifically, these clauses relate to helping you make more money as a designer, which we all want, right?

Tue, 04 Oct 2022 - 189 - 178: From Cabinet Maker to Multi-Six-Figure/Year Website Design Business with Josh Hall
I’m so excited to have fellow web designer, Josh Hall, on the podcast today. Josh is a web designer turned educator for designers, and he’s bringing the good stuff today! Josh and I jump all over the place from his business story to his advice for scaling your web design business, maintenance plans, messaging as designers, time management, fatherhood, and so much more.
Josh built his business to 6-figures/year as a soloprenuer, and we talk extensively about this journey and the exact HOW of him doing this. We also talk about his journey as a cabinet maker by day and drummer by night in 2009 to starting his freelance web design journey. He built his web design career as a soloprenuer from 2010-2016 and scaled his web design agency up before selling it in the summer of 2020 to focus full time on teaching others how to build web design businesses of their own.
Josh and I had so much fun together chatting. We actually did back-to-back interviews for both of our podcasts. I interviewed him, and then he interviewed me. So all together, we chatted for about 3 hours. I’ll link to my interview on his show (Web Design Business With Josh Hall) once it airs.
Some highlights we discuss:
How to do maintenance plans as a designer (I LOVED this!) How maintenance plans can work as a Showit designer too How Josh made over $100k/year as a soloprenuer Scaling an agency, then selling it and that whole process Building a team as a designer and working with contractors What it was like moving from an agency to a personal brand educator How it could actually be a BENEFIT to you if your business is your side hustle

Tue, 27 Sep 2022 - 188 - 177: Try These 5 Strategies to Get More Done with Your Limited Time in the 1st Year of Motherhood and Business
To create this episode, I basically asked myself — What would I want to tell a dear friend who owns a business and now has a baby or is expecting about doing motherhood and business together? And, these are the things I wrote down! Whether you’re an expecting mama, a new mom, or have been doing motherhood and business longer than me, I think you’ll find some great tips you can implement right now about motherhood and business, particularly in the realm of productivity as moms.
I’m approaching this from my own experiences of being a new-ish mom to a recently 1 year old baby boy. I know some of this may look different in your particular circumstances or if you have multiple kids or older kids. Take what you can from my advice to apply to your life and leave what doesn’t work.
I did an episode a few weeks ago that could be considered part one of this! That was episode #172 titled “My Top 4 Productive Mom Hacks for Running a Successful Business with a Baby or Toddler” — so tune into that one after this if you haven’t already. And, I’ve done TONS of episodes at this point about motherhood and business that are worth scrolling through the podcast feed to find and listen to!

Tue, 20 Sep 2022 - 187 - 176: 5 Pieces of a Successful Marketing Funnel that Sells Your Offers on Autopilot with Alexa Cawley
Technically we ALL have a funnel for our business, meaning the way we’re getting leads into our business and selling, but if your funnel is actually working as well as it could is another question that we’re diving into today. I’m chatting with the brilliant Alexa Cawley, owner of Forever Friday Consulting. She’s the host of the Friday Society Podcast and is a marketing consultant for wellness brands. She’s a 2x EM Shop customer and a long time listener of this podcast. By the way, I LOVE having guests who already listen to this show because they always bring exactly what you all need to hear.
In today’s episode, we’re diving into marketing funnels, and specifically 5 pieces of a successful one and the order in which they come, how to do your own funnel, and so much more. Alexa does an excellent job specifically speaking to new business owners in this as well, and we talk about funnels both from the perspective of service businesses and product businesses. So whichever you are, you’ll hear how to do a funnel for BOTH.
Other things we discuss worth nothing:
- Marketing practices and the stereotype around “bro marketer” funnels
- What’s not working anymore and what works in today’s world with funnels and marketing
- The current SoulCycle and Peloton battle and some great marketing tips we can learn there
- Marketing lessons Alexa learned working with big wellness brands like Lululemon and SoulCycle
- And we go through all those steps to a successful funnel

In this episode, we are having some fun, talking about how to HAVE fun as business owners. So many of us start a business because we think it’ll be fun. We maybe aren’t enjoying our day jobs, we want a side hustle to go along with being a mom, or we feel really passionate about an idea and want to act on it. Whatever it is, we want to have fun with it typically. But so often our businesses aren’t fun. They can actually become a total drag where we are like a poorly treated employee in our own company and we are the bad boss. I get it that some seasons and moments in business simply are not easy. I have certainly been in those moments myself, but even within that owning a business can still be an overall fun experience. Brand designers, website designers, and people who want to be a brand and website designer — this one is for you. When you’re first getting started as a designer, it can be absolutely confusing as to what you need to do and how to do it. If you went to college for design, they likely did not teach you any of this business stuff in college. You might be struggling with confidence in yourself that you can do this thing solo. Maybe you’re a self-taught designer, and that can come with all kinds of doubts. Basically, there is a lot going on, and it can be really overwhelming. First I want to say: You’ve got this. These myths are likely holding you back from really getting going, getting clients, and making money as a designer. Tue, 02 Aug 2022 - 181 - 170: The Essential Step You Must Take BEFORE You Create Your Next Product
Today I’m sharing a quick product creation tip with you! This is something you really need to be doing before you start building your digital product. I mean before outlining your course lessons, before you start creating your membership content, before you write your eBook, or before you build the template you’re selling. It’s a really simple thing but makes a huge difference later when it’s time for you to actually market and sell this product you’re working on.
This is something I do for every offer I make, and coming off of my membership launch this is fresh on my mind. It’s a bit counterintuitive, and I think many people skip this step, but it’ll make a huge difference in your product creation and marketing journey.
