A common question for any career how does someone get started or "get their foot in the door". So we dive into how we got into safety and some things we have learned along the way to help others start their safety career.

SWAT (Stop Work Authority- Taken) Is a concept to help improve the safety of employees. The idea is that safety is no longer placed in the hands of safety professionals and is instead put into the employees hands. Matt and Joe discuss how SWAT is used, how to develop the culture needed for SWAT to thrive and how SWAT impacts a company's bottom line. Fatigue in inevitable in our daily lives. Work, family, school, social events and many other demanding tasks cause us to feel tired. Matt and Joe discuss how fatigue affect workers and talk about the impacts it can have on the safety program of a company.

Matt and Joe have another guest in this week and discuss how C-Suite executives affect a company's safety culture. Several examples of what to do and, more importantly, what not to do when managers are involved. After the Education Vs. Experience episode, a listener contacted the podcast and wanted to elaborate his thoughts on the subject. John enters the debate and explains his views of how how each side has their strengths and weaknesses. As the debate continues John has a surprise for Matt and Joe and the three of them explain why education or experience is more important in the long run.

A company's safety culture is one of the most impactful subjects within a safety management system. Matt and Joe discuss bad cultures, good cultures, and how to identify, at the field level, where a safety culture may be. Joe explains Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and how to utilize the tool in everyday situations.

Accidents are an unfortunate part of every company. Often times safety professionals must select a method to investigate how the accident occured to discover root causal factors. Only then may we truly reduce the chance of the accident occuring again. In this episode Matt and Joe discuss many of the different methods of accident investigation and reveal great tips on reducing injuries on the workplace.
