This week, we discuss the information we can learn to interpret from emotional projections. With practice, we can determine when we are projecting at ourselves and how to see the information as catalyst for change. We can also learn to discern when others project at us, and how we can interpret that information rather than getting caught in it.

Kelly interviews Neil Ripski - fellow martial artist and friend. Neil spent ten years of his life not knowing any Kung Fu. Unfortunately that meant some years in primary school were spent being harassed and bullied. Luckily, in 1986 at the local video arcade a poster for self defense lessons changed his life. After spending the first eight years training in a Chin Woo Kung Fu 精武 society club he met Master Ma Qinglong 馬青龍 in the frozen wasteland of Edmonton, Canada. Living with Master Ma came about due to some bad/good luck as Neil lost his apartment. Still today Neil trains the Ma Family style of Northern Shaolin, its most advanced method being ZuiQuan or 'Drunken Fist/boxing " upon which he has written a series of books 'secrets of drunken boxing'. Internal martial arts training didn't truly begin until meeting his formal Buddhist Root teachers Luong Phor Viriyang Sirintharo from Thailand (https://www.willpowerinstituteusa.com/th/biography-of-phra-dhammongkolyarn-luangphor-viriyang-sirintharo/) and Professor Chen Qiming from Guanzhou, China in the early 2000s. Formally discipling in buddhist study, meditation and qigong under both Masters and Professor Chen Qiming in the valuable Shaolin 18 Lohan Palm Qigong. Chen Taijiquan, Baguazhang, and Xinyiliuhe training began in the summer of 2003 and now has carried him worldwide seeking teachers and in more recent years giving workshops. Since beginning martial studies in 1986 he has since studied and taught in China, Nepal, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, UK, Israel, and elsewhere. Often when we embark on our healing journey, and we feel energy for the first time, or we learn new concepts, we stop our process by thinking we have to teach it or use it to heal others. While that is a great goal to keep in mind, it's important that you do your inner work on a daily basis and embody what you've learned.

In this short video, Kellie talks about the use of polarizing language to divide people rather than bring them together. Beware those who try to prove they are right and someone else is wrong, or those who don't want a discussion because their ego feels challenged.

Tannis Legary has been a Reiki Master for over 30 years, and an international make up artist since 1997. She tries to lead by example as she empowers everyone to create their own wellbeing. Her passion for advancing her personal spiritual growth is demonstrated as she seeks to learn new healing modalities, such as the Healy, and other creative skills. Studying WW 2 documents and listening to stories of (children) of active participants in the war, Byron made it her fictional duty to give a voice to those heroes and heroines who stood up against Nazism. After the war, these ‘ordinary people’ resumed their lives and never spoke of their heroic acts. Let future generations hear their stories and understand the devastating impact of war.

An addition to my last podcast and an intro to a new one that Kelly and I will do together which was sparked by a conversation I had with a friend regarding suffering and whether or not it is a choice. I feel we have the power to choose and it takes a lot of digging into our darkest corners to be able to hold that space for ourselves. Sharing my thoughts and I'd love to hear yours too!

There were so many titles I could have chosen for this episode of Kellie's Shorts, I had a hard time choosing! As I moved through some physical pain that brought on emotional releasing, I wanted to talk about how we can become aware of when we are holding onto pain and how to let go. It's a process and no two people do it alike. People can validate our pain as easily as parking, but do we want to stay there? I've learned to ask myself - how long do I want to be hurt? When you ask that question, it can be a game changer. Thanks for tuning in!

Spiritual bypassing describes a tendency to use spiritual explanations to avoid complex psychological issues. In this episode, we cite our source for the definition, as well as how unhealthy this can be. We give personal examples of how we overcame bypassing in our own healing, and provide  ways to clue in to when you might be using this practice unknowingly. We discuss how avoiding feelings, believing traumatic events must have a "silver lining", believing spiritual practices are always positive, and focusing only on spiritual practices and ignoring the present - to name a few - can be detrimental to being in touch with one's self. Understanding your why has become a sort of catch phrase in the past few years. However, understanding why you do something (or don't) is important. We can get caught up in "how" we need to do something or an end goal. The ego trap of the mind can swing us from desire to despair when things do not turn out the way we thought they would. Being open to events or circumstances working in our favor without looking like we thought they would is key. Remembering why we embarked on a journey helps us to determine when our ego is leading and how to catch what our mind is doing. Then we can stop it and redirect ourselves.

When we begin to feel the origin of a story and what it is attached to, we can unravel false beliefs about ourselves. When we are willing to hear what we say to ourselves, we are able to challenge our own beliefs, and create a life we truly desire.

Understanding the context of information that is provided to you helps you see a bigger perspective. When it comes to movement and exercise, we often may not understand the history behind a set of movements which will provide us with a context as to the health benefits we may receive from training in a specific discipline. This in turn, allows us to be able to listen to our body, and "hear" the tension we may carry or where we may need to focus on to heal a particular part of ourselves, and make us stronger in general.

This also applies to life where we may make assumptions about people, situations, or circumstances when we do not understand the context from which someone may be operating from. Learning to listen to our body, and to observe where our mind goes - be it a space of judgment or a story we have told ourselves over and over - requires discipline and a willingness to understand that our minds try to sabotage us in relationships and situations, especially when we are building new connections to ourselves inside. When we become conscious of that, we can listen more open heartedly to others. We learn not to judge ourselves harshly which in turn ripples out into the world because we become less judgmental of others on their own path. Taking the time to understand the context of something is the key to good communication not only with others, but with ourselves.

This week we sat down with James Screeton from the UK and talk fermented teas and traditional Chinese medicine. James is an acupuncturist as well as aTai Chi and meditation instructor. After college, he worked as a fitness coach for men's and women's artistic gymnastics, and found an interest in the rehab of injuries for athletes. His holistic approach was born out of his rehabilitation from using acupuncture to heal from an injury which was recommended by his Kung Fu instructor at the time. He studied daoist medicine in Wudang, and afterward began his degree in acupuncture. He experiments with fermented teas in his spare time, and enjoys thinking outside the box to solve various life challenges. With his natural flare for understanding Chinese medicine, he takes each individual case and works with individuals to help them with their physical challenges. 

Discussing duality, karma, and the physical connection.

Maureen Flynn is a mystery writer, columnist, and short story author. Learning to step into a place where we can observe our thoughts and emotions rather than react from them can be a challenge but a discipline worth practicing every day. 

A lot has been said about needing to be self aware. However, in general what is thought of as self awareness are our habits of mental analysis and story telling we use to define who we are and who we are based on other people and the stories we choose to believe in. Stories and storylines are how people operate before they understand that they can step back into observation and look at the entire narrative and identify the origins of the stories and why they happened in the first place.

The ego is a symptom of the habit of mental analysis. When a person discovers how to identify and detach from ego stories and look at the patterns of the ego, in observation and without attachment, they will have finally stepped into their own path of self discovery.

In this episode, Kelly discusses how being present is much less a thought process and much more about the physical reality of being able to feel how strong our bodies actually are and if we have the courage to look inward to emotional spaces we can feel with our physical bodies.

A lot of conversations these days revolve around the concept of being present. Most conversations and books share concepts and information about becoming aware of the ego. Being aware of the ego is essential, but it is only part of the process. Learning to be present involves learning to feel and understand how to feel the physical body and everything it feels, and why and how and what happens when you do feel. The mind and its mental awareness only plays a small part in this. The mind and our awareness of ourselves is only really possible when we allow ourselves to feel and physically process our emotions and the information we feel in our body. 

This week Kelly talks about nature and how it mirrors our world inside. 

There is a lot of wisdom in nature. Nature reflects back at us what is inside us and what we need to reconnect with. Nature is in balance and we always have it as a point of reference for feeling how to feel that same space of balance within us. It is always about what is inside of us and not what is going on around us in the outside world. Nature is always perfectly balanced - even if our egos cannot see it or feel it. 

Wisdom is about feeling. This is why being in nature is important to understand. Through feeling the balance in nature we can relearn how to feel that same space inside of ourselves.

In this episode we talk about how to hear our wisdom and understand the difference between mental analysis and feeling our wisdom with our physical bodies.

Learning to hear your inner wisdom can be tricky. Differentiating between the voice of the heart and that of the ego is a skill to learn like any other.

Listening is a skill essential to understanding how to hear and feel our own inner voice. We often get caught in mental analysis of information until we learn to feel our minds and stop the pattern of mental analysis of what we are doing and why. Having a physical discipline to pull ourselves out or heads is important to be able to build our own personal language and context for feeling and connecting with our hearts and how we communicate with ourselves through our bodies.
