Jamie works as a groundworker by week and a motorbike racer by weekend. He’s spent the last ten years competing at the TT, and has become one of the event’s most successful privateers. Like many of the riders who’ve been featured on this podcast, road-racing is in Jamie’s blood. Jamie shared how his father’s influence and support has paved his way to what he’s achieved so far.

For our next 'Rewind' of this mini-series we're bringing you a double helping, as Chris and Steve are joined by a dominant force in sidecar racing, Ben and Tom Birchall, in an episode first published in April 2022.

The Birchall brothers take a trip down memory lane looking back from their first TT holidays with the family, to dodging their marshalling dad around the Mountain Course in their debut year.

The winning siblings also talk about the deal Ben made with his boss that allowed him to begin his career as a driver, and waiting for a young Tom to take his place as passenger.

Addressing the lows as well as the highs, with the duo providing a detailed explanation to their 2012 crash that saw them fly off the side of Snaefell Mountain and the quick recovery to take their maiden TT podium.

As our Isle of Man TT 2023 Blues continue, we're bringing you some of the best episodes from our back-catalogue, continuing with one of our most-talked about episodes with 3-time TT winner, 4-time World Superbike Champion and real life King of the Jungle, Carl Fogarty MBE.

In the second part of Ian Lougher’s conversation with Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater, the guys talk about his first TT win, which was in 1990. Ian explains how it was a challenging year with frustration at the European Championships and a misbehaving bike at the North West 200.

In the first instalment of Ian Lougher’s conversation with Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater, the guys focus on the early days of his career. The Welshman’s had 136 TT starts, 103 finishes, 29 podiums and 10 wins across five decades.

Ian tells the guys why he enjoyed early morning practice sessions back in the day and explains why he never felt nervous sitting on Glencrutchery Road waiting for the tap on the shoulder.

With his dad and brother both riding non-competitively, Ian shares some of his first experiences of motorbikes, including a situation which resulted in him getting banned from the roads at the age of 13. He also explains how he discovered road racing and the Isle of Man through the Southern 100 - where he’s still the most successful ever competitor with 32 wins.

After almost 40 years of involvement with the TT, Ian shares his thoughts on the changes he’s seen in that time - some of which he favours more than others.

This episode of the TT Podcast is part two of Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater’s conversation with Dr Gareth Davies.

As one of the Chief Medical Officers for the TT, Gareth explains how Senior Race Day looks from his perspective - explaining the checks and simulations which the medical team sort before roads close, all the way to the decisions about where to land the helicopters if needed.

Gareth tells the guys how proud he is of the 40-50 strong volunteer team which come to the Island each year to support the races.

Discussing the impact the Covid-19 gap had on the TT, Gareth says it enabled him and the other bosses to step back and consider their roles as custodians of the event: meaning they need to work to eliminate unnecessary risks, and make sure the TT is there for their children and children’s children.

The guys chat about the impact that witnessing tragic events can have on people in Gareth’s position; and also the way lessons regularly get learned and fed into the events to make sure the races continue to get safer.

In part two of his interview with Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater, TT winner Milky Quayle talks more about his TT racing career as well as the next chapter in his relationship with the event, training the newcomers every year.

Milky discusses the feeling of not only stepping onto the podium at the event, but then stepping onto the top spot. He talks about the struggle of paying to race at the event and shares stories of some of the other jobs he took on to pay his way, including working security at a clothes shop and pulling pints at the pub.

Now the man to teach newcomers the ropes, Milky talks about his process for preparing them for the unique nature of the TT, he tells Chris and Steve about some of the riders who couldn’t get their head around the event and those who excelled.

The Manxman also discusses his decision to retire and have a family, something he says allowed him to leave without regret after his infamous crash in 2003. As a man who gets involved with many aspects of the event, Milky explains his love of the TT and the Isle of Man.

Remembering how he started right in the deep end in 2012, becoming the first man to cancel a Senior TT, Gary explains why that decision was actually very easy on the day and how he sees accusations of being ‘over the top’ in his decisions.

Alongside making historically disappointing decisions, Gary is also the man responsible for putting on a five race day at the 2019 event and he tells the podcast how that came about, getting into some of the complexities that come from rearranging races and managing the expectations of competitors, marshals, fans and residents.

Though he admits he is often told that many would not want to do his job, Gary explains why he loves the role and all the problems it can bring, also letting Chris and Steve in on the one job that he himself would not want to take on.

Joining Chris and Steve on The TT Podcast this week is a Manxman who’s currently the 4th most successful TT competitor of all time. Dave Molyneux raced at his first TT in 1985 and since then, has won 17 times.

As well as explaining how his emotions on the startline have changed in the last 37 years, Dave tells the guys about the years leading up to his first races. He talks about his background as a mechanic, and how as a young man he chose jobs he thought would set him up well for a life as an independent rider.

Explaining why he’s always raced sidecars and not solo bikes, Dave talks about his dad’s influence, and how he had a trike as a kid.

This week sees the return of Davo Johnson to the TT Podcast.

After making his TT debut in 2010, he missed out on the races in 2011. Davo tells Chris and Steve why that was, and why he returned in 2012 where he achieved a top ten finish in the Senior.

In 2019, Davo got the call from factory Honda to ride for them at the TT. He explains how it came at an interesting time for him and shares how he found riding alongside Ian Hutchinson on the team.

Davo couldn’t ride at TT 2022, but made his return to the Mountain Course at the Manx Grand Prix recently. The guys discuss how the course has changed since TT 2019.
