A study by Mike Adams, a professor at Eastern Connecticut State University, suggests a correlation between students' exam periods and the mortality rate of their grandmothers. The research indicates that grandmothers are 10 times more likely "to die" before a midterm, and 19 times more likely before a final exam. The risk is even higher for grandmothers of students who are not performing well academically. Brant and Sherri suggest that the best way for grandparents to ensure their survival is to avoid sending their grandchildren to college.

It is 1953 Seattle, Washington. A man named Mike Martin is holding a letter in his hand from a local radio station. It says, “No. Canceled.” He can't continue the 15-minute radio program that he currently uses to reach troubled teens with the love of Jesus. He prays and God gives him the idea to start a Christian radio station.
Putting a radio station on the air is a tall order and Mike doesn't have the money needed for it. He doesn't know engineering or how to apply for a license, but Mike and his wife Vivian keep praying about it.
In November 1954, the station God gives Mike signs on the air. Today it's still going strong and it's part of what's known today as CRISTA Ministries. And without that first radio station, there would be no PRAISE 106.5 the station you are listening to right now. Millions of people have heard the gospel on the radio over the years because of prayers offered in faith.
At CRISTA Ministries throughout 2024, we are celebrating 75 years of God's faithfulness, and we want to thank you for being part of our journey, and part of our family. Tue, 05 Mar 2024 - 651 - God Knows Your Future
It is an avenue lined with a lush green carpet of lawn and verdant trees, and it slants gently uphill. At the top of the hill is a building, and at the very top of that building is a cross.
That cross has seen a lot of history unfold over the years. The building underneath it is the headquarters today for PRAISE 106.5 and CRISTA Ministries. But when it was built in 1911, it was the Firland Tuberculosis Sanatorium. After World War II, in 1949, Mike and Vivian Martin leased and renovated the old, abandoned Sanatorium to start a youth home and retirement community, serving people with the love of Jesus.
Now you might think that they put the cross up on the building back then, when it was dedicated to Christian ministry, but that’s not how it happened. It actually wasn’t put there by Mike and Vivian. It wasn’t put there during World War I, the Great Depression, or World War II … the cross had always been there … from the beginning. And It’s still there today. God knew the cross belonged on the building, just like God knew that decades of work for His Kingdom would begin on that Holy Ground.
At CRISTA Ministries, throughout 2024 we’re celebrating 75 years of God’s faithfulness. And we want to thank YOU for being part of our journey – and part of our family. Heather and her husband are celebrating 21 years together this year!
Here is Heather gushing about her crush:
"This past month I fell in love with my husband all over again. We foster, and tragically the bio mother of our 2 kids passed away January 2nd. I have watched him weep with them, cuddle them, tell them they are loved and safe and always welcome in our home. As we prepare to add them to our already busy family of 5 I realize how through the hardest things we can see the best in each other. My husband loves me well by always thinking of me. He makes sure I get to sleep in when I’m tired, that I get breaks or walks when I need them, he encourages me to spend time with my friends. He cooks and cleans along with me. He plays card games with our 18 year old, he coaches our 16 year old daughter’s basketball team, he takes our middle schooler and friends out to donuts! He says he’s up to loving another two (7 and 9 year olds) as our own. This has been one of the hardest months of my life, but I have also seen how blessed I am to be married to a man that truly loves Jesus and his family well."
Congratulations Heather! Wishing you both a very lovely Valentine's Day weekend - courtesy of our friends Walton Beverage!Wed, 14 Feb 2024 - 646 - That Time When Brant Wore a Jane Eyre Shirt to the Gym

Nominated by Jolene. Here is what she wrote:
My dear friend Amber could use some extra help this Christmas. Its been a testing year of her trusting God in these trials of life. Amber is a giver of care. She is a mom of 3 boys, two of them have Autism. She also takes care of her "Grams" who lives with her. Grandma has had many hospital visits and took a hard fall in Walmart. Grandmas health is not good. Amber works part time subbing for the Nooksack Valley School District. The needs of grams and her boys have prevented her ability to work and maintain income. The bills are piling up and she could use some extra cheer this year. She volunteers and gives her time to so many that It would be a miracle that someone give to her. I wish that I was in that place to do so but I recently lost my income for six weeks while my Son who has Angeman Syndrome recovers in a facility. Thank you for taking the time. to read this.
Amber will be receiving Christmas surprises of spa time, gifts for her kids, and food for a special and festive Christmas. Merry Christmas to all!Wed, 20 Dec 2023 - 635 - Miracle on PRAISE 106-5 Winner #2: JuliaOur second Miracle on PRAISE 106.5 is Julia Olthuis!
Nominated by Kristen. Here is what she wrote:
A few months ago my aunt lost her daughter to a fight with cancer. Her daughter was only 31. 5 years ago she got breast cancer and fought it and went into remission! Then it came back into her bones and other areas and there was nothing that could be done. This will be there first Christmas with out her. Of course the miracle we all prayed for, of healing didn’t come. Instead she got her miracle in heaven, fully restored. But her mom and family are left here broken. I would love to see my aunt have a weekend of pampering. The last couple off months of her daughters life she hardly left her side and didn’t take any time to her self. She unselfishly did all she could for her beloved daughter. Her love was unconditional until the end.
We hope this brings Julia a bit of respite through her grief. Praying for all this Christmas, Julie.Tue, 19 Dec 2023 - 634 - Brant Hansen's Helpful Holiday Hotline
Brant is here to introduce his Hanson's Holiday Helpline, a service to answer holiday-themed questions. Listener Noah risked it all and called in to ask when he should start listening to Christmas music. Brant's answer is not helpful. In fact, Sherri finds the holiday helpline to be more of a scolding service. Brant calls it a tough love approach.
All that to say, we don't think Noah will call back.
The end.Sat, 16 Dec 2023 - 633 - Are you ready for Christmas?
When someone asks you this, what are they really asking?
Do you have presents thought up, bought and wrapped? Is your baking done? Is your house clean and decorated? Have you been working out and eating only one or two cookies? Is your calendar squared away and do you feel confident to make conversation with people around a veggie tray?
The question flusters me every time, because no. None of that. Not even one. And the poor person who asked. They are just making conversation. So why do I freeze like a person who just got a failing grade on the Christmas Checklist report card?
Advent means "coming." Instead of looking at it like a deadline where so many things need to be done before I can get there, I want to look at it with anticipation and excitement. It's exactly because
I can't get everything done that He came.
Christmas Day is not a finish line. It's a celebration of the great relief that came to us in the form of a baby who would carry all the messed up, heavy, hurt, broken parts of us, who would bind them up with his sacrifice and love and who would transform them to glory with His resurrection.
Relief. Rest. Righteousness. Health. Balance. Acceptance. Grace. Joy. LOVE so big and unconditional that it died for you. And rose again.
All the things Jesus' birth means. Am I ready to celebrate that? Am I ready to accept the gift of this?
"Are you ready for Christmas?"
I'm so ready.Fri, 15 Dec 2023 - 632 - Miracle on PRAISE 106-5 Winner #1: Mariana
Winner: Mariana
Our first Miracle on PRAISE 106.5 is Mariana, featuring her sweet family of 5 who have been helping their youngest through her cancer journey.
Nominated by Eliane:
My friends Mariana & Kevin have gone through a lot of hardship and their journey is still not over. Their youngest daughter Lucia, (I believe she is 4 yrs old), was diagnosed with cancer a few months after she was born. Her treatment began during COVID, only 1 parent was allowed in the hospital with her through it all. She lost a leg during her battle with cancer but has been in remission for a couple of years now. In her most recent routine follow up scans for LI- Fraumeni they found a brain tumor. She had surgery 4 weeks ago and begins radiation this Monday. They have 2 older children as well (9 & 7) I personally know how difficult this journey is and how it affects the entire family, as my 9 yr old is currently in remission from cancer. The winter months and through the holidays were incredibly depressing and difficult to get through. Being with your child in the hospital and watching them endure chemo treatment causes you to become a shell of who you once were, witnessing your child's pain and suffering. It felt dark, hopeless and depressing much of the time but you have to mask that as a parent in order to be strong and present for your child, as well as for your other children. So, I'd like to nominate Mariana and her family for a magical Christmas this year. Perhaps some gift cards to go out to eat, fuel gift cards (they travel to Seattle children's for treatment), beautiful decorations, presents for their 3 children this Christmas. Or if their schedule allows it perhaps a vacation for the family? I would just love for them to receive an amazing blessing this year that brings them joy and good memories for their family during this uncertain and scary time. A small bright light that shines during this dark time makes a HUGE difference for families dealing with pediatric cancer.
Mariana will be receiving Christmas surprises to help them celebrate Christmas together, and beyond.
Merry Christmas, Mariana!
Many thanks to Walton Beverage for helping provide a thrill of hope this Christmas.Fri, 15 Dec 2023 - 631 - Sam Kelly with "Disturb Us Lord" Sir Francis Drake Quote
Mostly we don't like to be disturbed, but sometimes being disturbed is a good thing. This is a prayer from Sir Francis Drake. He was an English sea captain who lived a long time ago.
He wrote this prayer:
“Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves,
when our dreams have come true because we have dreamed too little,
when we arrive safely because we sailed too close to the shore.Disturb us, Lord, when with the abundance of things we possess,
we have lost our thirst for the waters of life, having fallen in love with life,
we have ceased to dream of eternity, and in our efforts to build a new earth,
we have allowed our vision of the new heaven to dim.Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wider seas,
where storms will show your mastery, where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars.
We ask you to push back the horizon of our hopes, and to push us into the future in strength, courage, hope, and love.
This we ask in the name of our Captain, who is Jesus Christ. ”

Why do we struggle to feel God's presence despite our praying and leaning into our faith? Most people don't hear an audible voice from God, but that doesn't mean God isn't there. Even people in the Bible went years without obvious signs from God, but God didn't walk off. He speaks to us in many different ways. A mature faith may entail being able to do what you're doing, which is continue to seek Him, even when you don't get the emotional reward of the obvious Word from God.

This may be. You may have done things in life, or be doing things in life that you're like, God's got to be so mad at me. He's done. He's walked off. He's, he's just finished with this. I just want to remind you of something... Remember Adam and Eve in the story, in Genesis? They rebel. They blow it big time; very costly way. Well, they can't live in that place anymore as a result. God goes with them. They're not kicked out of the presence of God. They just can't be in that place where that sort of thing can't happen. He goes with them, even as their sinners and failures and all that sort of stuff, like, imagine that. So, please understand, He will continue to go with you. Even though you have failed. You just turn toward him, turn your face toward him. He's already turning His towards you. He's willing to keep going with us. How amazing is that?Thu, 06 Jul 2023
