Joining the corporate world can be quite a daunting experience for students, especially as we emerge from a global pandemic where so many of us have been working from home for two years. So, it’s important to embrace every opportunity thrown your way to make the absolute most of your internship. As an Intern myself, I thought it crucial to create a guide for incoming interns and second year university students to learn from and apply to their own experiences. In this episode, I’m joined by Ciara Sherlock, fellow intern and student at the University of Bath, who will be sharing some tips, tricks and words of wisdom to guide incoming and future interns through the process, from beginning to end.

In this episode I’m interviewing Gavin Critchley. Gavin works within the Customer Office for EMEA North at SAP. I wanted to chat with Gavin simply because Gavin isn’t afraid to say it like it is and also isn’t shy of admitting that he’s.. well.. human! It’s refreshing to hear someone with such experience and seniority admitting that it wasn’t all mapped out and planned. Join us as Gavin and I explore if we’re the only people that suffer / suffered with imposter syndrome. Do the people at the top suffer with it? Do they question their success? Do they too compare themselves to others? We also talk about a topic that I find extremely interesting – the use of social media and both its negative and positive effects in relation to this topic. The year is 2032, and Sci-Valley has adopted the latest innovations including highly efficient sorting and processing facilities that breaks down our plastic waste and provides materials for future production. Light and crispy on the outside, yet moist in the middle, YUM. Marie and I used to work within the same team at SAP. Marie decided to leave her corporate job at SAP in August 2019, to follow her passion in creating Madeleine & Co. Marie shares with us her journey and it was certainly a journey to where she is today. I love that the decision for Marie to leave her corporate job has not only let Marie turn her baking passion into a reality but it has also led Marie into creating an additional business. As part of SAP’s continued response to the social justice movement, SAP announced the launch of its Pro Bono for Economic Equity program in the UK, a pro bono volunteering program designed to foster economic equity for black-owned businesses and social enterprises. It provides the opportunity for employees to share professional skills and expertise as pro bono volunteer consultants to help solve critical business challenges for black-owned businesses and social enterprises that are impacted by social and racial injustices in the UK. In this episode, SAP UKI Managing Director Michiel Verhoeven speaks to Peter Simpson, CEO at Anglian Water, to discuss our new purpose driven partnership, under a shared vision to drive positive business transformation through environmental, social and economic prosperity. Working together, SAP and Anglian Water are trailblazing a Life-Centred Design approach to business strategy and development, taking into account ecological and socio-economic impacts across production, distribution and disposal. Peter Simpson has been Chief Executive Officer of Anglian Water Group since October 2013, and was previously Managing Director of Anglian Water from January 2010 and Chief Operating Officer from 2004. Peter is a founding member, and now co-chair, of the Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group in the UK, run by the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, which provides a strong voice to support UK leadership nationally and internationally on the transition to a climate neutral, resource efficient, socially inclusive economy by 2050. Peter also works with Business in the Community (BITC) as Chair of the Climate Adaptation Taskforce and Chair of the East of England Leadership Team, and sits on the Board of Trustees of WaterAid. Peter is a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager, a Chartered Scientist and a Chartered Environmentalist. In 2016, he was made an Honorary Fellow of both the Society of the Environment and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management. He holds an MBA from Warwick Business School. Peter was Chairman of Water UK from April 2012 to October 2013, and is a Past President of the Institute of Water.

In this episode, SAP UKI Managing Director Michiel Verhoeven speaks to Mark Dearnley, Chief Digital Officer at Inchcape, to discuss their ongoing business transformation and move to RISE with SAP. Mark Dearnley joined Inchcape as CIO in October 2020. Formerly, Mark was Partner at the global management consulting firm, Bain & Company where he advised clients on technology strategy, digital transformation and enterprise information technology. Prior to his role at Bain, Mark was CIO with Premium Credit and Chief Digital & Information Officer with HMRC. He has also held CIO positions in Vodafone UK and Cable & Wireless. He has considerable experience in cyber-security, customer-facing digital solutions as well as delivering complex technology change across international operations.

Emmie Faust appeared on series 5 of BBC’s Dragons’ Den where she and her business partner secured a £200,000 record investment from Theo Paphitis. The business ending up failing which led Emmie to feel embarrassed for some time. This public eye failure wasn’t easy, however the learnings from it have been invaluable to Emmie and her success today. Since then Emmie has set up, scaled and sold many successful businesses and is almost certain the not so easy public failure was a key ingredient to her success today. In this episode, SAP UKI Managing Director Michiel Verhoeven speaks to Peter Pritchard, Group CEO of Pets At Home, to discuss his technology strategy for the business and a dedication to delighting customers. Peter joined Pets at Home in 2011 as Commercial Director and moved to the role of Chief Executive Officer of Retail in 2015. Peter was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer in April 2018. Peter has worked in retail for 30 years in various senior operational and commercial roles at Asda, Sainsbury’s, Iceland, Marks and Spencer and Wilkinson Hardware Stores. Both examine the causes and long-term implications of the 2008 financial crisis. Whilst his third title, WTF? takes a broader look at the world, what’s gone wrong, and proposes possible solutions across politics, society and business. Amongst a wealth of journalism awards Robert has to his name, he has won the Royal Television Society's Journalist of the Year, Specialist Journalist of the Year, and Scoop of the Year (twice), the Wincott Prize for financial journalism, and the Broadcasting Press Guild's award for Best Performer in a non-acting role.
