Tue, 07 May 2024 - 227 - Episode 222 A Deeper Look at the Radical Right Wing Groups and Characters of the Early 60's Part 1
Episode 222 is the first of a series of episodes where we begin to explore the radical right groups of the 1960's that clearly had great motive to murder president Kennedy. Emerging, alongside civil rights leaders, as a prime target for ire of white racists, anti-communists, and and a wide variety of other conservative groups, President Kennedy was a a target among them all. This aspect of the assassination and the connection of the radical right is little explored. We started many episodes back, with the story of Joseph Milteer but its rather easy to pull on that string and find much more underneath the covers. Part 1 of this new wander begins to address the five key organizations, amongst a plethora of radical right organizations, that are relevant to the JFK story. They are the KKK, The John Birch Society, the White Citizens Councils, The National States Rights Party and the Minutemen. These handful of groups were intertwined with men who weaved their way in and out of the shadowy existence of this intense resistance to societal change. The story is not faceless, and we will introduce many of the key characters in this series of episodes that were key to understanding how the radical right may have participated in the JFK Assassination. But first lets explore a bit about these organizations as we go deeper and deeper and connect the players.
Even as early as 1964, rumors and serious concerns over the lone gunman theory and the evidence that might contravene it, were becoming a major concern for the government and the commission. Conspiracy theories were contrary to the government's stated narrative from the very beginning. This real-life story is more fascinating than fiction. No matter whether you are a serious researcher or a casual student, you will enjoy the fact filled narrative and story as we relive one of the most shocking moments in American History. An event that changed the nation and changed the world forever.Fri, 03 May 2024 - 226 - Mysteries of Military Intelligence in Dealey Plaza Part 1 Is Now Live At Our You Tube Channel! A Discussion with Researcher Steve Osborn Who Testified Before the ARRB About His Mystery Witness
Join us on our You Tube Channel for our latest episode of Mysteries of the Enduring Secret. Could there have been military intelligence personnel in Dealey Plaza on November 22nd whose sole purpose was to capture in real time video format the events that became the actual assassination? Researcher Steve Osborn became privy to a man who was there and who was part of the team assigned to capture and beam the video back to a central location. Mr. Osborn first revealed this in testimony to the Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB) in 1994. The story was not taken seriously enough to spur additional investigative efforts by the ARRB. Now, hear the entirety of this story retold by Mr. Osborn himself as Rick Russo and I interview Mr. Osborn on our latest episode of Mysteries of the Enduring Secret. Mr. Russo first encountered Mr. Obsorn almost 30 years ago and later considered this mystery for inclusion on an episode of the Men Who Killed Kennedy. Watch our ever expanding series of Mysteries of the Enduring Secret You Tube videos on my YouTube channel JFK The Enduring Secret. Thu, 25 Apr 2024 - 225 - Episode 221 James Meredith and the Oxford Riot Part 5 (Final Episode of the Wander)
Episode 221 is the fifth and final episode of a mutli-part wander that is the story of James Meredith and the Oxford Riots. Meredith was the first black man admitted to the University of Mississippi. Most who are familiar with the history, recall the tense moment of his admission, but few understand the extent of the violence which encompassed the event. By the end of September 1962, Meredith's attempt at registration had become an ongoing affair. After his initial rejection , he filed a lawsuit in federal court claiming racial discrimination and the suit prevailed and it set the stage for a massive showdown as the beginning of the fall school semester came upon the university. The story had beginnings reminiscent of the Little Rock 7 entering Little Rock High School and the intervention by the armed forces in that integration case. Mississippi Governor Ross Barnett would adopt the Doctrine of Interposition and assert that the state of Mississippi had the right to defy a federal court order and declare a federal law null and void. He would instruct all state employees and officers including law enforcement to resist the admittance of James Meredith to Ole Miss. The situation would escalate and become the largest invocation of the Insurrection Act of 1806, Over 31,000 national guardsman, federal marshals, other law enforcement officers and members of the military would be activated for the event. The degree of domestic disturbance and the related violence and extensive involvement of the military would be taken to a new level. A level not seen in prior civil rights disturbances, and a level that would set the stage for intense retribution from the radical right. This wander into the depth of violence and hate is done to demonstrate that which was present in the form of danger to all who opposed the civil rights movement and especially leaders such as John F. members of the civil rights movement including Martin Luther King.

Chokeholds is a wonderful new book on the JFK assassination authored by famous JFK assassination researcher James DiEugenio and four of his co-authors Matt Crumpton, Paul Bleau, Andrew Iler and Mark Adamczyk. Three of the five authors are lawyers and the book brings a refreshingly new, and more rigorous, approach to standards of proof as they would have been applied, had Oswald not been murdered. It's a great mix of new facts and old and, and its organization and content brings order to a complex topic. Several weeks ago, we recorded a live video interview with these gentlemen, and placed it exclusively on our You Tube Channel. Today, we offer the audio portion of that interview to our podcast listeners.
This new book has a fresh new approach and is a masterful and collaborative effort undertaken by a highly talented group of JFK researchers. All of whom are friends of mine. James DiEugenio is best known for his involvement with Oliver Stone, as Jim wrote the latest Oliver Stone screenplay JFK Revisited. Mr. DiEugenio is a retired teacher with four previously published books on the JFK assassination and related topics and he is the producer of the website Kennedys and King. Mr. DiEugenio has lectured widely and made many appearances on the subject of the JFK Assassination. Many of you will recognize Matt Crumpton as one of the newer shining stars these days on the JFK research and podcast scene. His podcast Solving JFK is one of the most popular podcasts on the subject. Paul Bleau is another highly talented and accomplished JFK researcher who has presented at JFK conferences and appeared as a speaker on various shows covering the JFK assassination topic. I personally consider Andrew Iler and Mark Adamczyk to be two of the most knowledgeable lawyers around on the topic of the JFK Records Act. The Act is the core reason why we have such wide access to records related to the assassination. Listen to this fascinating interview with four of the five authors, and if you want to a total experience with them on the tube, then make your way over to the JFK Enduring Secret You Tube Channel and watch the Video of this interview there. Either venue will advance your knowledge of the assassination.Sun, 03 Mar 2024 - 215 - Episode 212 A Wander Back to Bethesda and the Autopsy and A Big Reveal By Rick Russo
Episode 212 is a special wander back to the autopsy with guest Rick Russo who is my JFK sidekick friend and co-producer of a series of twelve episodes on our JFK Enduing Secret You Tube Channel entitled Mysteries of the Enduring Secret. Earlier, we completed 30 or so episodes on the fantastic goings on that encompass this part of the JFK story. The story at Bethesda and the story of the autopsy. You may have thought that we were done with the autopsy, but this episodes reveals shocking new evidence.
In this episode, Rick reveals something related to the autopsy at Bethesda that very few people know about, still to this day... a fact which seemingly ties together so much of the incongruent testimony and story telling that confounds the evidence at Bethesda and the autopsy itself. Finally, we can connect the dots in a logical way. What you will hear is far out and fantastic. So don't miss it. And the discussion is not over with this one reach back episode because we are hosting a follow up video interview and debate on our Your Tube Channel which features the famed JFK researcher and author William Matson Law and Rick Russo as we go back in time and more fully discuss Rick's finding with two of the most capable JFK subject matter experts on the planet.
Our episodes have now begun to explore an array of matters that dive into a deeper darkness related to what went on that day in Dallas and in the period before and after the assassination. Matters that possibly point to a wider and more sinister plot to kill the president and that clearly call into question the theory that there was a lone assassin. Complex cases without an eyewitness that can actually identify the shooter make the forensic and circumstantial evidence that much more important. Ironically, problems abound with much of the evidence in this case. Evidence that is complex, incomplete and sometimes conflicting.
Even as early as 1964, rumors and serious concerns over the lone gunman theory and the evidence that might contravene it, were becoming a major concern for the government and the commission. Conspiracy theories were contrary to the government's stated narrative from the very beginning. Stay tuned as there are many more episodes to come!

Episode 211 is the second in a series covering Joesph Milteer and the radical right wing of America. In today's episode we tell the story of Don Adams. Adams was a rookie FBI agent in 1963 who was assigned out of the Atlanta office to work in a rotation out of Quitman Georgia. As a satellite office, agents stationed in Quitman covered nine counties in southern Georgia. Because the secret service had no offices in south Georgia, they called on the FBI for help in investigating Milteer. In both October and November, Willie Somersett an informant for both the Miami Police Department and the FBI, reported that plots had been discussed involving plans to assassinate president Kennedy. The first occurring in Indianapolis Indiana at a meeting of several individuals in a hotel room and then again during a conversation that occurred one on one in Miami at Somersett's apartment with Milteer. Milteer was party to both meetings. After the November 9th meeting between Somersett and Milteer, in Miami, the secret service received a transcription of the tape recorded conversation where Milteer described the plot that was already in the works. Considering him a prime suspect, the Secret Service reached out to the Atlanta office of the FBI to track down Milteer and learn more. This is the fascinating story of the FBI deception in the investigation of Milteer that was later uncovered by this rookie agent himself, years after the fact.

Episode 210 is the first in a series covering Joseph Milteer and the radical right wing of America. On November 9th, 1963, just seven days after the secret service had thwarted the plot in Chicago, an informant working for the intelligence unit of the Miami police department William Somersett captured an extraordinary conversation on a surveillance tape. As Somersett and Milteer carried on a conversation in Somersett's Miami apartment, Milteer would reveal that a plan was already in the works to assassinate president Kennedy and that it would be done with a high powered rifle with a scope from an office building. He would go on to say that a suspect would be picked up very shortly after the shooting in order to throw off the investigation. This was exactly what happened in Dealey Plaza some 13 days later on November 22nd, 1963. Was this a lucky guess by Milteer or was his foreknowledge real.
Mon, 12 Feb 2024 - 211 - Episode 209 The Secret Service Question Part 20 The Chicago Plot
Episode 209 is the twentieth in a series covering the Secret Service and possible involvement in the coverup, or the actual plot itself to assassinate President Kennedy. Today's episode covers the plot to kill the president in Chicago on November 2nd, 1963. just twenty days before his actual assassination in Dallas. President Kennedy was scheduled to attend the Army Airforce Game in Chicago. Several days prior to his arrival, the FBI phoned the secret service Chicago office and apprised them that there was a plot afoot that deployed paramilitary gunman to kill the president. And that they were likely to be aiming at the president as he exited the expressway close to stadium. The clue was provided by a man with the first name of Lee. Shortly after a landlady came across rifles with scopes in one of four rooms that she had rented to four men, she concluded it was suspicious and informed the authorities. The head of the local secret service knew it was the plot that he had been forewarned about by the FBI. For reasons that are still, to this day, not completely clear, the FBI chose to "turf" the case entirely over to the secret service. They did so despite the fact that the secret service had minimal personnel in the Chicago office, consisting only of eight agents at the time. After a surveillance snafu, only two of the four men were identified and taken into custody for questioning. The other two men known to the landlady, were never identified or found. Meanwhile, through an unidentified tip, the authorities became aware of an ex-Marine that turned out to be a perfect patsy. Thomas Arthur Valley. His credentials looked surprisingly like Oswalds...both were marines, both served in the marines in japan at bases there, and both bases were CIA fortresses. With a history of far right leanings and connections to the John Birch society and later shown to have trained with anti-Castro Cubans, Valley had a sketchy mental health background. No doubt that he would have been considered a lone nut. A perfect patsy. He had recently taken a job in a manufacturing concern located in a multi-story building along the motorcade route, close to a point in the road where the president's limousine would come to the end of the expressway and stop, and then make a 90 degree turn. Eerily similar to the Dealey Plaza scenario. Details of the Chicago plot were sealed up by the secret service and apparently not made available to the planners in Miami, Tampa and the Texas trips including Dallas. It was many years later before the plots were revealed generally. Was there more to the story. Why were these details withheld from planners in Dallas?
Even as early as 1964, rumors and serious concerns over the lone gunman theory and the evidence that might contravene it, were becoming a major concern for the government and the commission. Conspiracy theories were contrary to the government's stated narrative from the very beginning. This real-life story is more fascinating than fiction. No matter whether you are a serious researcher or a casual student, you will enjoy the fact filled narrative and story as we relive one of the most shocking moments in American History. An event that changed the nation and changed the world forever.Sun, 11 Feb 2024 - 210 - An Interview On Our You Tube Channel About The Recently Published Book Chokeholds Featuring Three of its Five Authors James DiEugenio, Paul Bleau and Andrew Iler

Sun, 04 Feb 2024 - 209 - Episode 208 The Secret Service Question Part 19 Doug Weldon Part 2
Episode 208 is the nineteenth in a series covering the Secret Service and possible involvement in the coverup, or the actual plot itself to assassinate President Kennedy. Today's episode is part 6 and the final episode of a multi part mini-series covering the presidential limousine and the hole in the windshield. In today's episode, we hear for the second time directly, from Doug Weldon who is considered the premier expert on assassination research as it relates to the limousine and this topic. Episodes 207 and 208, which feature Doug Weldon, complete our series on the limousine and the bullet hole in the windshield. This episode 208 tells the story of the destruction of the windshield at the Ford Rouge Plant in Dearborn Michigan and the creation of a replacement windshield. A story told by Ford Motor Company witness George Whittaker. Mr. Whittaker is a glass expert and also verifies that the hole in the original windshield came from the front. Before Mr. Whittaker was identified, there was great suspicion around the limousine and its windshield. Questions abounded. Episode 208 solves the mystery of what happened to the original windshield and that a bullet passed from the front, right through it. No longer do we need to ask, was there a bullet hole through and through in the windshield? And if so, then did it come from the front.. or the back? And what happened to the evidence of it. Prior to these revelations from George Whittaker, there was a mountain of unanswered questions....How did the government overcome at least ten eyewitnesses who saw the hole? How was this evidence suppressed? Why were these witnesses never spoken to about the hole? Why does the official piece of evidence, the windshield, sitting in the national archives today, show no evidence of a bullet hole? Is it a forgery? If so, is there a fantastic tale surrounding how this rather surreptitious event occurred. And if it did occur, what does that say about the work of the secret service and the FBI as it relates to the forensic review of the limousine? Why didn't the secret service follow basic crime scene protocols to preserve the epicenter of the crime...which was the limousine? Join us in this nail biter and when it's all over, and you hear the story and the first hand accounts from eye witnesses, go ahead and conclude on your own about what really happened to the windshield. And whether there really was a shot from the front. Could this resolve the issue of where and how a shot came to pierce the front of President Kennedy's neck...an entrance wound and not part of the hypothesis that came become the single bullet or "magic bullet" theory. And if it is true that the Secret Service obfuscated this evidence, then what does that mean in terms of more expansive elements of the coverup, or even involvement.

In today's episode, we hear for the first time, directly, from Doug Weldon who is considered the premier expert on assassination research as it relates to the limousine. Episodes 207 and 208 complete our series on the limousine and the bullet hole in the windshield and they are explosive. Was there a bullet hole through and through in the windshield? Episode 206 is the seventeenth in a series covering the Secret Service and possible involvement in the coverup, or the actual plot itself to assassinate President Kennedy. Today's episode is part 4 of a multi part mini-series covering the presidential limousine. In today's episode, unravel the "hocus pocus" related to the three key memos that, along with the White House garage logs, represent the key written documents to explore regarding the limousine's chain of custody in the aftermath of the assassination and what activities took place related to the limousine....and when. Hocus pocus, refers to the inconsistent assertion of facts contained right there within the official documentation. The differences are the basis of much suspicion about what really happened to the limousine and its windshield and the obliteration of evidence in the aftermath of the assassination. Was there a bullet hole through and through the windshield? If so, then did it come from the front.. or the back? And what happened to the evidence of it. Episode 202 is the thirteenth in a mini- series wander covering the Secret Service and possible involvement in the coverup, or the actual plot itself to assassinate President Kennedy. Today's episode is a bonus episode that finishes out our coverage of the incident at the Cellar Coffee House and Fort Worth Press Club. Pat Kirkwood was the colorful owner of the Cellar and he was known to throw a great party. As he came to grips with his terminal cancer, he would have one more reunion of sorts with his old friends from the Cellar Club and beyond in 2000, shortly before his passing. Todays is the story recalled of that event and many of the reminiscent moments that came from it. The Cellar has an infamous juxtaposition in the assassination of president Kennedy. Agents arrived late at the Texas hotel and some of the agents were hungry. They had heard that there was a buffet at the Fort Worth Press Club. When they arrived there around 12:30AM, they found no buffet. And, some of them stayed and drank, and then a large number of them continued on to the Cellar. Most of them stayed at the Cellar until at least 3AM in the morning and one of them, agent Paul Landis, is believed to have been there as late as 5 or 5:30 in the morning based on his own statements and statements of others. The story broke just three days after the assassination from a tip given to nationally known reporter Drew Pearson by a Fort Worth reporter who had heard the tale, but was sure his editor would never run a story that would cast aspersions on the secret service in light of the tragedy that had just happened. The story ran in the Washington Post and it was explosive and detailed misconduct that included intoxication and staying out so late that there was no doubt that the secret service agents involved were sleep deprived the next day. This generated the obvious question....were any of the agents involved in this incident, a part of the detail actually guarding the president that day in Dealey Plaza. And indeed they were. There were nine men who went to the Fort Worth Press Club and ten who ended up at the Cellar. Four of those men were in the presidential follow up car that day. Did their behavior the night before (or actually the morning of) the assassination contribute to the death of the President. That was the question. Sleep deprived agents that had been drinking seemed like an obvious factor to consider, but would it have saved the president from his fateful end? Earl Warren, the Chairman of the Warren Commission was incensed about the incident, and in one of the few passionate displays of his during the whole Commission review, he chastised Secret Service head James Rawley and wondered why the men were not disciplined for clearly breaking secret service rules. Not one man was fired for his behavior that night, as secret service chief Rawley believed that the men had already suffered enough. Having lost a president. Delving deeper into the individuals involved into the President's protection is for the purpose of solving the perplexing question of how men generally so loyal to the President, might have motivations to act otherwise. It is the seminal question regarding the inner workings of the secret service and their true orientation to President Kennedy.

Episode 201 is the twelfth in a mini- series wander covering the Secret Service and possible involvement in the coverup, or the actual plot itself to assassinate President Kennedy. Today's episode is part 2 related to the story surrounding the Cellar night club and Fort Worth Press Club incidents and covers the official internal investigative report issued just days after the incident by secret service inspector Gerrard McCann. The President and the agents arrived in Fort Worth late that night of November 21st and were greeted unexpectedly by large crowds at the Fort Worth Airport. As a consequence, they arrived after hours downtown at the hotel where the president and his wife were staying, and some of the agents were hungry. Episode 200 is the eleventh in a mini- series wander covering the Secret Service and their possible involvement in the coverup, or the actual plot itself to assassinate President Kennedy. Today's episode continues our coverage of the individuals in the white house detail who were in Dallas that fateful day. In this episode, we tell the story of the impact of events which took place the night before in Fort Worth in an edgy nightclub named the Cellar. The President and the agents arrived in Fort Worth late that night of November 21st and were greeted unexpectedly by large crowds at the Fort Worth Airport. Episode 199 is the tenth in a mini- series wander covering the Secret Service and their possible involvement in the coverup, or the actual plot itself to assassinate President Kennedy. Today's episode continues our coverage of the individuals in the white house detail who were in Dallas that fateful day. In this episode, we compare the two 1963 statements by Paul Landis, made just days after the assassination on November 27th and November 30th, 1963. Mr. Landis is yet another secret service agent that thought that one of the shots came from the front or the right front. Join us as we read verbatim, the two statements that Landis made and compare and contrast the details of what comprises those two statements. Delving deeper into the individuals involved into the President's protection is for the purpose of solving the perplexing question of how men generally so loyal to the President, might have motivations to act otherwise. It is the seminal question regarding the inner workings of the secret service and their true orientation to President Kennedy. The inner workings of the Secret Service are just that...they are secret...and not much has been said by the agents outside of the official agency position.... since the assassination, but at least one man Vince Palamara is widely considered to be the resident expert on how the Secret Service figures into the assassination story. Mr. Palamara has done more original research on this topic than anyone else. Others have done extensive research including Doug Horne. So this series of episodes will give us a chance to better understand this often over looked aspect of the assassination story.

Episode 198 is the ninth in a mini- series wander covering the Secret Service and their possible involvement in the coverup, or the actual plot itself to assassinate President Kennedy. Today's episode continues our coverage of Sam Kinney, the driver of the Presidential follow up car that day in Dallas. It's part of the overall story of the secret service agents in Dallas that fateful day. The follow up car was carrying the bulk of the secret service agents who were protecting the president and the first lady, and it was situated right behind the presidential limousine. Kinney is undoubtedly one of the good guys, and this is a bonus episode that captures verbatim his actual written statement dated November 30th, some eight days after the assassination. Kinney was never asked to testify before the Warren Commission. He was absent from the handful of more prominent agents in the passion play that did testify in 1964. In later years, he would talk on three separate occasions with researcher Vince Palamara. In the previous episode, you heard portions of those interviews and also from Sam Kinney's neighbor Gary Louck, According to Louck, Kinney had privately revealed to him that Kinney was the one who found the bullet in the presidential limousine. Louck relayed this story after Kinney's death. That bullet, according to Louck's account of it, became Warren Commission exhibit 399. And that was long before agent Paul Landis more recently came forth with a similar assertion. Of course, both cannot be true. In the prior episode we also tell Kinney's story of how, during the flight back to Andrews Airforce Base, traveling with the presidential limousine in a C-130 transport, Kinney would inspect the vehicle and find a portion of the president's skull in the back seat. It was a piece of the president's skull that he placed in his pocket and gave to Admiral George Berkeley, upon return to Washington. Where did the fragment go?....the answer to that question is still a mystery, as it is unaccounted for at the autopsy. Episode 194 is the fifth in a mini- series wander covering the Secret Service and their possible involvement in the coverup, or the actual plot itself to assassinate President Kennedy. Today's episode begins to cover the perplexing question of how men generally so loyal to the President, might have motivations to act otherwise. It is the seminal question regarding the inner workings of the secret service and their true orientation to President Kennedy. Getting a look inside, requires locating someone who has disavowed the idea of keeping secret of the dirty laundry that may have existed within the secret service in that era. Sadly and perhaps ironically, the story must be told by the first black secret service agent ever to be chosen for duty on the Secret Service White House detail. That man was Abraham Bolden. His story is an extraordinary one and in today's episode we hear from Mr. Bolden himself on this very topic of what was really "underneath the covers when it comes to the Secret Service's true orientation toward President Kennedy. The inner workings of the Secret Service are just that...they are secret...and not much has been said by the agents outside of the official agency position.... since the assassination, but at least one man Vince Palamara is widely considered to be the resident expert on how the Secret Service figures into the assassination story. So this series of episodes will give us a chance to better understand this often over looked aspect of the assassination story. But today, we listen to an iconic figure who holds the key to our further understanding of what happened with the secret service on that November day in 1963 . While today's episode is not a thorough exploration of Mr. Bolden's own story, it serves as a backdrop to many upcoming episodes in this mini-series.

Episode 193 is the fourth in a mini- series wander covering the Secret Service and their possible involvement in the coverup, or the actual plot itself to assassinate President Kennedy. Today's episode covers the next section of chapter 8 and a portion of Chapter 2 in the Warren Commission Report dealing with advance planning and preparation undertaken by the Secret Service prior to the president's trip to Texas. Chapter 8 generally addresses the Secret Service role in protecting the president and pertinent facts around their conduct in Dallas. After today, our upcoming episodes in the wander turn away from the official report on the Secret Service, to the investigative research by Vince Palamara, Douglas Horne and others. So stay tuned. Recent events, including the pending publication of the book by former Secret Service agent Paul Landis, have given rise to renewed interest in this topic. Mr. Landis is 88 years old and he was an agent who was there in Dallas on November 22nd, and he participated in the motorcade protection. He now claims to be the person who left the bullet on the stretcher at Parkland. And on President Kennedy's stretcher, no less. His claims have sparked a great deal of renewed debate about the magic bullet and the shooters in the plaza, but rather than evaluate Mr. Landis' claim at this time, we are using this period of renewed interest to reassess the role of the secret service overall in the assassination story. It is no secret that there was a massive failure of protection by the Secret Service which contributed heavily to the death of the President. But the seminal question of whether this was poor planning , or poor performance, versus something more sinister, have never been fully resolved. The inner workings of the Secret Service are just that...they are secret...and not much has been said by the agents outside of the official agency position.... since the assassination, but at least one man Vince Palamara is widely considered to be the resident expert on how the Secret Service figures into the assassination story. Episode 189 is the second and last in a two part mini- series wander covering the Reverend Raymond Broshears. In today's final mini-series "wander" episode, we present Broshears' taped audio deposition that he gave to the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA). Broshears was one of the most bizarre witnesses that surfaced during the Garrison investigation. He met David Ferrie in New Orleans and became rather good friends with him. They were sexual partners as well. According to the story that the good Reverend told back in the day, Ferrie confided in Broshears after the fact, regarding his involvement in the assassination plot to kill the president, with Ferrie participating as the pilot who was to fly two of the assassins out of the country. The two men were purportedly the shooters who were situated on the Grassy Knoll. The assassins changed the plan and apparently escaped by others means, thereby eliminating the need for Ferrie to fly them out of the country. Broshears was a homosexual who was also an ordained minister. Among his many notable notable assertions, he claimed to have had sex with Lee Harvey Oswald. After a sordid period of his life in which he was charged with sex crimes involving a minor, he would make his way to New Orleans and begin a tail that you will hear in these two episodes and capped off by today's rendering of his testimony to the House Select Committee on Assassinations which occurred some ten years after his interviews with the Garrison team. After 1965, he moved to California in search of a new start in his life, and ended up as a rather controversial figure out there. Broshears appeared on a local Southern California television show, where he revealed the startling fact that he knew Ferrie and he told the story rather matter of factly to the television audience regarding what Ferrie told him of his involvement in the assassination. The show happened to be watched by a Garrison investigator living in the area, and Garrison and his team immediately moved to interview Broshears. Four interviews were conducted, including two which took place in New Orleans. However, Garrison and his team, while they believed Broshears was telling the truth about the basic facts related to Ferrie, declined to use him in the Clay Shaw trial. Listen to these two episodes combined , and I think you will understand why. Even so, he is an important part of the history of the investigation, and we leave it up to you as a juror to determine which parts of his testimony may be credible.

Episode 187 is the fifth and final in a multi-part series covering Richard Case Nagell. This is third bonus episode as well, and it may be the the most interesting one yet. Addressing the Eroshkin incident, the Luma Hotel, and the death of Marine Emmett Dugan. Richard Case Nagell was a highly decorated United States Army veteran, counterintelligence officer, and former CIA Double Agent for a brief period with ties to Russia. Nagell was arrested on September 20, 1963 after he entered the State National Bank in El Paso, Texas and fired two shots into a wall at the bank. After firing the 45 calibre pistol, Nagel allowed himself to be taken into custody at the bank. Nagell had observed and then penetrated a group that included Lee Harvey Oswald and learned that they were planning the assassination of President Kennedy. Working as a double agent, he refused to execute the orders given by his Russian handler which was to foil the assassination plot by convincing Oswald that he was being set up as a patsy or, in the event he was not successful in doing that, to kill Oswald instead. Shortly before the bank incident, Nagell sent a letter to J. Edgar Hoover exposing the plot. Not surprisingly, the letter was never acknowledged by the FBI. Nagell met twice with New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison who at the time was investigating Clay Shaw's possible complicity in the assassination. The famous character Mr. X in Oliver Stone’s movie JFK is modeled after Richard Case Nagell. Nagell, like so many other characters in the JFK story, had a fascinating life and he first crossed paths with Oswald while Oswald was stationed in Japan at Atsugi Air Force Base. He would survive two military airplane crashes but the injuries sustained in the most serious of the two crashes were later hypothesized to have possibly impacted his mental health and they were the subject of an intense examination during his criminal trial related to the bank charges. Nagell died at the age of 65 in Los Angeles, California...one day after receiving his subpoena to appear before the Assassination Records Review Board. It would have been his first ever appearance under oath to discuss what he knew about the assassination. Previously, he had not testified or given statements about it to any government arm that was officially investigating the assassination. Although he officially died of a heart attack, he had no previous history of heart problems and is included in that dubious category of mysterious deaths that occurred amongst witnesses in the aftermath of the assassination.
Richard Case Nagell may be the single most fascinating character in the JFK story, and Nagell's story is yet another moment where fact is stranger than fiction in the case of the JFK assassination. Episode 186 is the fourth in a multi-part series covering Richard Case Nagell. This is our second bonus episode and it addresses the perspective that Nagell's trial lawyer Joe Calamia had on his legal proceedings...and the strategy for a defense at the second trial. Nagell's lawyers settled on a temporary insanity plea, after unsuccessfully arguing to both their client and to the court, that Nagell was insane...and thus, should be hospitalized and not prosecuted and incarcerated. The legal machinations by his lawyers to free him from prison using these tactics, served to muddy the water about Nagell's true psychiatric state. Today, we hear the story of Joe Calamia in the case and his perspective, which may provide additional insight into Nagell's mental state around that time in 1963.

Episode 184 is the second in a multi-part series covering Richard Case Nagell. This episode follows our opening overview in Episode 183 and is comprehensive chronology of Nagell's life through the bank incident. Nagell was a highly decorated United States Army veteran, counterintelligence officer, and former CIA Double Agent for a brief period with ties to Russia. Episode 182 tells the story of Gordon Novel. After winning Jim Garrison's confidence and becoming his security officer during the district attorney's investigation of the JFK assassination, it would soon become known that Novel was working for the CIA and had infiltrated Garrison's team. Garrison would eventually come to understand this double cross and seek to extradite Novel, who eventually fled to Ohio to avoid extradition by Garrison. Garrison knew that Novel had participated in the Houma raid and he wanted answers as he believed that Novel knew much more about that actual assassination than he was admitting. With the truth revealed that Novel was working for the CIA when he infiltrated Garrsion's team, Garrison himself became even more resolute in his thinking that the CIA was either involved or was covering up something very sinister as it related to the assassination. Novel as a character is one of the most fascinating individuals in this passion play that we call the Kennedy assassination. In later years, he was involved in Watergate, the post Waco investigation and the related review of the FBI's performance there, and of all things, his private investigative work helped John DeLorean discover the presence of a sting operation that was contrived to entrap him. A sting operation that proved to be a conspiracy between Britain's Conservative Party and both British and American intelligence services. Novel was a believer in extraterrestrial beings and technology, and asserted that the government, based on its capture of an alien spacecraft, had reversed engineered the ability to generate limitless energy that could be made available on a widespread basis to all of mankind, and thereby significantly reduce global warming and create an economic system that would free the world of the geopolitical dynamics related to energy. He also consulted with celebrities such as Michael Jackson and Jean Claude Van Damme regarding security issues. Come join us for the wild and wacky story of Gordon Novel.

Episode 180 covers the The Houma bunker raid, of the Schlumberger Wells Company munitions and arms cache, which took place in the late summer of 1961. Later it was found that participants in the raid included some individuals who were also implicated in the assassination plot related to President Kennedy.
The participants in the raid included David Ferrie, Sergio Aracha Smith, Rancier Blaise Ehlinger, Carlos Quiroga, Layton Martins, Luis Rabel Nunez, Gordon Novel, Novel’s wife Marlene Mancuso and Andrew Blackmon, an ex-Marine.
The munitions stored at the compound were thought to have been placed there by the CIA under a contract with Schlumberger and were thought to have originally been designated for use in a diversionary portion of the Bay of Pigs, or to be used in the OAS revolt of the French Generals against Charles DeGaul. It turns out that they were not used in either event, and the CIA made a decision to remove them from the bunker after Schlumberger expressed their unhappiness over the Bay of Pigs outcome. As a result the CIA directed a group of covert operatives which included David Ferrie to remove the arms cache over a period of several months, in several different trips to Houma. They munitions were distribute to several locations including David Ferrie's apartment, the New Orleans offices of Guy Bannister at 544 Camp Street, and to the Lake Pontchartrain anti-Castro Cuban training camp owned by William McClaney, which was raided by the FBI in July, 1963.

Episode 179 is the second and last in a two part series covering Charles I. Spiesel, the zany accountant from New York who testified at the Clay Shaw Trial. This is a classic story of a witness that began with all the potential to sink Clay Shaw. Professional and articulate on the stand, his testimony for the prosecution was clear and convincing. But it only lasted for a few minutes, as he was destroyed upon cross examination by Irvin Dymond the defense attorney for Clay Shaw. This story is so bizarre that we won't even try to reveal it in this narrative. You will have to listen to both episode 178 and 179. Some say that if there was only one prosecution witness who destroyed the case, it would be Charles Spiesel. This is yet another moment where fact is stranger than fiction in the case of the JFK assassination. Episode 177 is the third in a mini series covering Dean A. Andrews, Jr. the flamboyant jive talking New Orleans attorney that is so aptly portrayed by John Candy in the movie JFK. Today's Episode recreates his entire June 28th, 1967 testimony in front of the Orleans Grand Jury. Testimony that flatly contradicted what he told the Warren Commission. By this time, Andrews had already been charged with perjury and gave additional testimony that would result in additional perjury charges this day.
The story of Dean Andrews begins with him, sick in a hospital bed, having received a phone call the day after President Kennedy was assassinated. The mysterious caller who identified himself as Clay Bertrand asked Andrews if he would go to Dallas and represent Lee Harvey Oswald in the murder case related to the assassination. Oswald was murdered the next day making his representation moot. Bertrand never surfaced again. Coincidentally, Andrews had interacted with Oswald in the summer of 1963 after Oswald had come to him for legal help associated with his marine corp discharge status, his own citizenship status and that of his wife Marina. Andrews would relay this strange call to the FBI and the Secret Service on the Monday following the assassination and the inquiry was swift but Bertrand could not be identified or located. The matter was investigated but was dropped by the authorities until Jim Garrison and his team ran across the reference to Dean Andrews in the Warren Report as Garrison's investigation of the Kennedy assassination was resurrected during late 1966. While Dean Andrews was a friend of Garrison's and an assistant D.A. as well in nearby Jefferson parish, Garrison soon became convinced that Clay Bertrand was really Clay Shaw, a prominent local new Orleans businessman. Despite extensive prodding, Dean Andrews refused to identify Clay Shaw as the Clay Bertrand who called Andrews the day after the assassination. Andrews was called to testify in 1967 before the Orleans Grand Jury and his refusal to identify Clay Shaw along with his material inconsistency of testimony under oath...when compared to his Warren Commission testimony taken under oath, ultimately rewarded him with 11 counts of perjury. Some people say that he was the lynch pin of the case against Clay Shaw but ironically he ended up as a called witness for the defense. Was he telling the truth when Garrison claims that stated he would be a dead man if he made the connection under oath...or did he make the name up from the very beginning in a quest to chase fame and fortune. Come listen to another gripping set of episodes in this new mini-series covering one of the most fascinating and important characters in the story of the JFK assassination, Jim Garrison's investigation and the Clay Shaw Trial.

Episode 174 is the story of the alleged attempted bribe of Al Beauboeuf by the Garrison investigators. Beauboeuf was a close friend of David Ferrie who lived at Ferrie's apartment for a time and also accompanied Ferrie on the night of the assassination on the famous trip to the Wonderland Skating Rink in Houston. Garrison was convinced that Ferrie was not telling them the truth, and that he was part of the assassination plot. Garrison's team also believed that Beauboeuf's relationship with Ferrie was highly likely to have made him privy to critical facts about the conspiracy plot. So their interest in getting Beauboeuf to reveal the truth was quite high in the days following Ferrie's death. They would offer Beauboeuf $3,000 and the prospect of a job with an airline in exchange for his testimony only to have the offer secretly taped by Beauboeuf's defense attorney. The tape was circulated to various law enforcement authorities and Beauboeuf's attorney attempted to sell the tape to the media outlets, but had no success in do so. Of course, the tactics deployed by Garrison's team beg the core question of whether they committed a crime that was not prosecuted when they offered Beauboeuf money and the prospects of a job in exchange for his testimony should it "fill in the holes". It also begged the question of whether Beaubouf and his attorneys injected their own dirty tricks into this process in order to entangle Garrison and his team. Of course, if the allegations against Garrison's team were true and it was a bribe, then in a bigger sense, the logical question to follow was whether or not these investigative tactics or approach were used on more than one witness. Used in attempts to obtain the desired testimony that was necessary to convict Clay Shaw. Testimony that may have been falsely teased out if the allegations were true, and testimony that would have shown a pattern of misconduct by Garrison's investigator's when combined with what was alleged to have occurred with other highly publicized witnesses such as Perry Russo. The New Orleans Police Department examined the tape and performed an investigation, and concluded that a bribe had not been offered under the then existing code of conduct.
Times were different than…it wasn’t a crime to offer financial or other assistance to witnesses….the legal issue is where the line gets drawn….drawn in the times in which it occurred…and whether they crossed over that line…as investigators…will be up to you once you listen to more details. We remind the audience that whether we believe it was right or wrong ( based on today's rules and today's environment) to offer financial assistance to a witness is a completely different question… is to ask a completely different question and one that was somewhat irrelevant to a juror in 1967 given the laws in operation at that time. So we have to be careful about avoiding the tendency to use the wrong historical yardstick when evaluating what Garrison and his team were doing at the time to get at the truth and bring justice...even though such tactics have long been outlawed in today's environment.
Aside from the legal aspect of the story, the real question is whether Garrison's team did it to get at the real truth…or whether they did it to simply get at the needed answer. The answer that was necessary to bury Clay Shaw at trial. As a member of the audience and a juror on the case, you get to decide all of that for yourself.

Episode 173 is the story of the 2nd polygraph test taken by Perry Russo. Jim Garrison and his team, concerned that the results of the first polygraph test administered to Perry Russo would be made public on national television as part of Walter Sheridan's NBC White Paper documentary, scrambled to have a second polygraph administered that would reinforce the veracity and confirm the truth of Perry Russo's statements to be made at trial. More specifically, that Russo was present at the assassination plot party which took place at David Ferrie's apartment which was an event that Clay Shaw was present for and participated in...and that a man named Leon Oswald was present and that is one and the same as Lee Harvey Oswald. Oh, and that Clem Bertrand is one and the same as Clay Shaw. Unfortunately, the test was cut short and it led to a private conversation between Russo and Ed O'Donnell the polygraph operator and a sergeant on the New Orleans police force. O'Donnell would tell Garrison and members of his staff what Russo had privately relayed to O'Donnell after the polygraph machine was turned off....that Russo could not definitively say that Clay Shaw had been at the party that night and participated in the assassination meeting. Later, O'Donnell would make the decision to reveal this information publicly going against Garrison as Garrison ignored what O'Donnell had revealed to him about the conversation with Russo. Several weeks into the Clay Shaw trial, O'Donnell would make the decision to testify on behalf of the defense, an unusual matriculation of events in the case. Some critics say that O'Donnell was a foe of Garrison's and that impacted what happened here. Others say it was just one more example of Garrison's disregard for the truth in his quest to bring the case to trial.

Joan Mellen is the author of a well done investigative book entitled A Farewell to Justice. In a rare appearance to promote her book, Ms. Mellon participated in a radio interview that was presented by radio station WBAI in Brooklyn on the show Taking Aim. The conversation aired in October 2005, just prior to her book coming out. ..and it is quite revealing. In the three part series, Ms. Mellen engages in an intimate conversation about some of the most important investigative work done around the assassination itself and the Garrison investigation. Episode 171 is part 3 (and the final part) in a three part series of bonus episodes (wanders, really) which supplement our story of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans and the related trial of Clay Shaw. Hear Ms. Mellen in an intimate conversation about some of the most important investigative work done around the assassination itself and the Garrison investigation. And, as a bonus, the interview was conducted by Ralph Shoenman and Mya Shone. Today's episode reveals more detail on why Robert Kennedy so opposed the Garrison investigation. Shone was a documentary filmmaker and Shoenman was a left wing activist who was involved in some of the original investigative work on the Kennedy assassination and who made acquaintance with Mark Lane. Shoenman had previously gone to work for Bertrand Russell in 1960, and he was a major force behind Bertrand Russell's important and highly influential/controversial 1964 article entitled 16 Questions on the Assassination. Russell was one of the most influential philosophers and social activists of the 20th century and he won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1950. Russell would later break with Shoenman, citing various allegations of wrongdoing while working at Russell's foundation (and) in an attempt to distance himself from some of Shoenman's more radical activities.

Episode 170 is part 2 in a three part series of bonus episodes which supplement our story of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans and the related trial of Clay Shaw. Joan Mellen is the author of a well done investigative book entitled A Farewell to Justice. In a rare appearance to promote her book, Ms. Mellen participated in a radio interview that was presented by radio station WBAI in Brooklyn on the show Taking Aim. The conversation aired in October 2005, just prior to her book coming out. ..and it is quite revealing. Hear Ms. Mellon in an intimate conversation about some of the most important investigative work done around the assassination itself and the Garrison investigation. And, as a bonus, the interview was conducted by Ralph Shoenman and Mya Shone.
- 168 - Episode 167 The Garrison Investigation Part 17 Rose Cherami Part 2
Episode 167 is the seventeenth in a new series of episodes that chronicle the story of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans and the related trial of Clay Shaw. Today's episode is the second and last in two part multi-espisode mini series on Rose Cherami. You may recall that the story of Rose Cherami dons the opening scene of the movie JFK. She was a stripper and a prostitute and a drug mule and a mother. And she worked for Jack Ruby at one point. She is one of a unique handful of witnesses who expressed knowledge of the assassination before the assassination actually occurred and she met with a mysterious death within two years of our president's murder. Her story was not featured in the Warren Commission but her fantastic story was unearthed soon after by Jim Garrison and his team, including Frances Fruge who was on loan to Garrison from the Louisiana State Police. Fruge was the officer who originally interacted with Rose and heard her claim of the impending assassination for the first time on the night of November 20th, 1963. Her story was investigated further by the House Select Committee on Assassinations. Ironically, Cherami was admitted for drug detoxification on the night of the 20th at East Louisiana State Hospital. The same hospital where Lee Harvey Oswald had applied for a job while in the Clinton/Jackson area. It was a very small world. Listen to these three episodes and see how the characters begin to draw closer together in relation to one another. As the ever deepening analysis draws out the players, and exposes the relationships that most clearly existed.

Episode 165 is the fifteenth in a new series of episodes that chronicle the story of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans and the related trial of Clay Shaw. Today's episode features the audio from Jim Garrison's nationally televised rebuttal of the NBC Whitepaper on the Garrison Investigation. While the NBC White Paper shed some light on many controversial aspects of the investigation, there was a clear bias contained in the programming. Outraged, Jim Garrison appealed to the FCC and, under the "then existing fairness doctrine", he was granted 30 minutes of prime time on NBC to rebut the case. Garrison used the rebuttal to make his bigger than life case about the true forces behind the Kennedy assassination, but avoided addressing the specific allegations about his investigation that were leveled during NBC's program. The NBC White Paper aired on June 19th, 1967, and Garrison's rebuttal came within weeks. The NBC White Paper was a major blow to Garrison and his team. On the surface, this prime time television special was an attempt by NBC to address the controversial aspects of the Garrison investigation, which had already resulted in the arrest of Clay Shaw on March 1st, 1967. Shaw was subsequently indicted, after a preliminary hearing and a grand jury proceeding, under the charge of conspiracy to murder President Kennedy. One of the principal forces behind the NBC White Paper was Walter Sheridan and his ultimate objective was to discredit the investigation overall. NBC attacked the rather flimsy evidence that Garrison's team presented in a preliminary hearing...evidence used to justify arresting Clay Shaw. NBC also addressed what appeared to be dubious methods applied by the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office to obtain testimony from key witnesses. Finally they would attempt to refute that Clay Shaw was Clay Bertrand resulting in an embarrassing faux pas by the network that backfired. Many of the so called witnesses featured in the NBC White Paper were subsequently summoned to testify in front of the Orleans Parish Grand Jury and repeat their statements under oath. Playing hardball, Garrison used this tool to test whether the statements made on the NBC TV special were truthful. Several of the witnesses appearing on the NBC program refused to answer such questions before the grand jury, citing their right to avoid self incrimination.

Episode 163 is the thirteenth in a new series of episodes that chronicle the story of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans and the related trial of Clay Shaw. Episode thirteen is the forth in a mini-series that addresses the star witness of the Clay Shaw trial, Perry Russo. In this forth episode, we continue with a recreation of Russo's sworn testimony under oath at the preliminary hearing which was his first debut as a witness related to the case against Clay Shaw. Today's episode features the cross examination of Perry Russo by the defense attorney Irvin Dymond. Perry Russo had previously gone public on his own before he was discovered by anyone, including Garrison...but Garrison soon took control and the ensuing story related to Russo's ongoing interactions with the New Orleans D.A.'s office would prove to be more than controversial. Phelan and others would contend that Garrison and his staff engaged in a progressive series of actions that included the use of sodium pentothal (truth serum) and a series of hypnosis sessions all of which pointed to witness manipulation. That he and his office had engaged in steps to suggest the proper answers to Russo, was the issue in question and whether those actions materially enhanced the original testimony of Perry Russo and were, essentially, untruths... Critics contend that the changes were so radical that Russo's testimony evolved from being initially irrelevant, to so significant that it singlehandedly resulted in the arrest of Clay Shaw, for conspiracy to murder the President. Join us in in this exciting series of episodes about one of the most fascinating witnesses....in fact the star witness...of the Clay Shaw trial.

Episode 161 is the eleventh in a new series of episodes that chronicle the story of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans and the related trial of Clay Shaw. Episode eleven is the second in a mini-series that addresses the star witness of the Clay Shaw trial, Perry Russo. In this second episode covering Russo, we tell the story from the perspective of Jim Phelan from the Saturday Evening Post and the issues with Perry Russo's testimony. Phelan became privy to certain memos prepared by Andrew Sciambra, Assistant District Attorney, which highlighted these discrepancies in various versions of Perry Russo's story. A story that had rapidly become the sole basis for charging Clay Shaw with conspiracy to murder the President of the United States. Unbeknownst to Garrison, Phelan had already become an FBI (and possibly a CIA) informant. He would use his influence with Garrison to secure two memos prepared by Sciambra. The discrepancies between these memos and other statements by Russo would serve as the basis of a confrontation with Garrison and his team. Phelan began as a friendly member of the press, but a few days after charging Clay Shaw, Garrison would spend a weekend in Las Vegas and Phelan would meet him there. Breaching his confidence, Phelan would secure copies of the memos and then deliver them to the FBI. This occurred before the initial testimony at Shaw's preliminary hearing. Perry Russo had previously gone public on his own before he was discovered by anyone, including Garrison...but Garrison soon took control and the ensuing story related to Russo's ongoing interactions with the New Orleans D.A.'s office would prove to be more than controversial. Episode 160 is the tenth in a new series of episodes that chronicle the story of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans and the related trial of Clay Shaw. Episode ten is the first in a mini-series that addresses the star witness of the Clay Shaw trial. Perry Russo. In this first episode covering Russo, we pick up the action on February 22nd, the date of David Ferrie's death, when by all accounts the investigation should probably have been closed down. But Garrison pushed on and he was given a gift almost immediately as this young twenty five year old insurance salesman living in Baton Rouge saw the news of Ferrie's death and would step forward immediately and begin to tell the story of a David Ferrie obsessed with the idea of killing the President. Russo went public on his own before he was discovered by anyone including Garrison...But Garrison soon took control and the ensuing story related to Russo's ongoing interactions with the New Orleans D.A.'s office would prove to be more than controversial as Garrison's staff engaged in a progressive series of actions that included the use of sodium pentothal truth serum and a series of hypnosis sessions all of which ensured a lifetime of criticism mounted at Garrison. That he and his office had engaged in steps to suggest the proper answers to Russo and that those actions enhanced the original testimony of Perry Russo, so much so, from something initially that may or may not have been initially relevant, to finally being significant and comprehensive enough... all by itself..to justify arresting Shaw and charging him with conspiracy to murder the President of the United States. Join us in the first and subsequent episode about one of the most fascinating witnesses....in fact the star witness...of the Clay Shaw trial.

Episode 159 is the ninth in a new series of episodes that chronicle the story of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans and the related trial of Clay Shaw. Episode nine address the eight witnesses that testified at the Clay Shaw Trial who were from the Clinton/Jackson Louisiana area. In late August or early September 1964, Lee Harvey Oswald came to Clinton Louisiana in search of employment at the state mental hospital situated close to another nearby town Jackson, Louisiana. His quest initially led him to speak to the local barber, a local politician and take a trip over to the mental hospital in order to complete an application for employment and finally to the local voter registration office, after he was advised that registering to vote locally would improve his chances of employment at the hospital. His trip to the voter registration office in Clinton took place during a voter registration drive that was undertaken by CORE principally for the benefit of black voters in the area during a tense period of civil rights activity in an area where the Ku Klux Klan was highly influential. Under the circumstances, his presence there and being a white man in the midst of what was primarily an all black event, contributed to he and his travel companions becoming noticeably more visible to CORE volunteers as well as local officials. He was seen in the company of Clay Shaw and David Ferrie during the portion of the trip that involved his attempt to sign up and become a locally registered voter in the area. This is the story of the witnesses who provided credible evidence at the trial that was critical to proving that Clay Shaw, David Ferried and Lee Harvey Oswald were indeed known to one another and were engaging in activities together. The testimony of the Clinton witnesses was a critical piece of evidence underpinning Garrison's overall attempt to prove that a conspiracy amongst these men to kill President Kennedy actually existed. This part of the trial was one of the few that presented substantial evidence pertaining to the affiliation between these three men, even though Garrison overall was unsuccessful in presenting additional evidence in support of a murder conspiracy.
Episode 154 is the fourth in a new series of episodes that chronicle the story of the Garrison investigation in New Orleans and the related trial of Clay Shaw. This episode addresses the bias of writers and the press, which collectively undermined getting at the complete truth. We also explore the actions taken by the CIA after it became a matter of public record that the Garrison investigation was underway. More specifically, we read, in its entirety, the CIA internal memo dated April 1, 1967 which was issued at the direction of Richard Helms just weeks after news of the Garrison investigation broke in the press. The CIA memo outlines a systematic program put in place to defend the Warren Report including overt actions to be taken by the CIA to influence politicians and influential members of the press and writers. Garrison's fame was resurrected by the Oliver Stone film JFK, so 1992 was the year that the trial of Clay Shaw was first revisited nationally. This episode contains key panel discussions and a debate by the world class investigative reporter Dan Moldea and opposing views by Colonel Fletcher Prouty. Hear the emotionally charged exchanges that were a microcosm for the national debate going on in the country (about the assassination) at that moment in time. Garrison's investigation and trial became the inspiration and partial basis for Oliver Stone's movie JFK. Dan Moldea provides provocative comments about Garrison's tie in with the New Orleans syndicate and Carlos Marcello and declares that Garrison had deceptive motivations as a result. If Moldea's allegations are true, undoubtedly these facts would have impacted the trajectory of the grand jury investigation and the subsequent trial. All of these elements are designed to, collectively, help you as the juror determine Garrison's proper place in the history of the JFK assassination story.
