  • 647 - 452. Discover Your Core Values

If you don’t know your core values, you can end up being wildly successful, but miserable. If you don’t know your team members’ core values, they’re probably going to leave. Today, our colleague Mark Donohue, joins us to talk about what core values are and how to discover them.   We talk about how core values are factual, not aspirational. They aren’t what you aspire to be, but who you are at your core right now. By identifying them, you can better align your decisions with your sense of fulfillment, both in your professional and personal life.  Mark walks us through the process of identifying them, and how they may change over time. We also talk about how to manage conflict around people’s unique core values, finding counterbalances and new ways of doing things. Plus, we have a little fun with each other about our core values– it can be pretty amusing and endearing when you know your co-workers’ core values. Want to identify your core values? • 646 - 451. Mind Magic with Dr. James Doty

When Dr. James Doty was a kid growing up in tough circumstances, he happened into a magic store and met a woman who taught him the manifestation technique. He tells that story in his wildly popular first book, “Into the Magic Shop.” Today, James joins us to tell us about his new book, “Mind Magic” which covers what happened after he manifested everything he thought he wanted. As an adult, James’ manifestation of beautiful homes, cars, and life of riches came true. He was a successful neurosurgeon, jetsetting across the world. But he was miserable. After losing millions in the dot com crash, he sat down and rethought his manifestations.  In his new book, James explains that through this process of reflection, he realized that manifestation without compassion for others leads to unhappiness. He digs into the neuroscience behind this phenomenon, and shares the lessons he’s learned.  If you're a bold risk taker who wants to dream big and achieve a higher level of success in your life or business, visit the1thing.com to learn about our one-on-one coaching, as well as our exclusive community membership program. *** To learn more, and for the complete show notes, visit: the1thing.com/pods. • 645 - 450. Think Remarkable with Guy Kawasaki

What do Jane Goodall, Margaret Atwood, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Steve Wozniak, Kristi Yamaguchi, Ronnie Lott, Katy Milkman, and Angela Duckworth all have in common? Well, for starters, Guy Kawasaki has had in-depth, one-on-one conversations with each of them, and hundreds of successful people like them. But, as Guy writes about in his new book, what they truly have in common is similar paths to being remarkable. Guy Kawasaki joins us on the show today to tell us about his newest book, “Think Remarkable: Nine Paths to Transform Your Life and Make a Difference.” He’s taken 250 hours of interviews with incredible individuals on his podcast, “Remarkable People,” and distilled them into one book. Rather than list out every interview one, by one, he’s identified the nine common paths that run through each one.  In today’s episode, Guy tells us about those paths, and weaves in his own hilarious, personal stories. And he has plenty of stories: He’s been the Chief Evangelist of Apple, trustee of the Wikimedia Foundation, special assistant to the Motorola division of Google, and much more.  Guy’s wisdom and insights are a delight.
