Brawni, who frequently incorporates his Octatrack and synthesisers into his productions and live videos, has secured funding for a live hardware improvisation concept called ‘Hardware’, which will feature four different live artists performing back-to-back for four hours of live innovation and invention across a variety of DIY spaces. Brawni’s is a testament to the artist’s dedication to creating unforgettable sonic experiences. Recent performances at Index, Tengu, and Wigwam highlight her growing presence in Dublin’s club scene. Charlois has performed for collectives such as LOST, HONEYPOT, and foxgluv, and is known for her uncompromisingly euphoric and uplifting approach to DJing. She has had the honour of sharing lineups with Upper90 and DJ Heartstring. As a queer DJ, she is committed to promoting inclusivity and diversity in nightlife through her work with collectives such as HONEYPOT, LUST, and LGBTQIA+ club night House of Pleasure. A well-known digger in Dublin’s nightlife scene and a rising local, his selections range from psychedelic techno to cyber electro to mystical yet transcending deep techno. The Mongolian native keeps you glued to the dance floor with his hypnotic and fast rhythm, aiming to create a stronger connection to nature and a greater sense of freedom in the room. Finnish DJ and producer LUMI will arrive on HE.SHE.THEY on the 3rd May with a 3-track EP titled ‘Who Am I’. Merging her heritage with her explorative musical nature, LUMI has quickly established herself as an artist of both style and substance. HE.SHE.THEY is a platform designed for those who push boundaries, creating a sanctuary, a place without prejudice and where people can be people. To celebrate the 240th Local Selection mix, Cork-native, NYC-based selector STE-VÍ, once half of the Hanley Brothers, takes us on a journey through the golden age of techno. Mixed entirely on vinyl, the young selector glides through a collection of tribal-kissed 90s classics featuring cuts from Marco Bailey, DJ Shufflemaster, Joris Voorn, Hardcell, and others. New York-based techno artist STE-VÍ creates a unique blend of driving techno and groove. The energetic DJ is influenced by late 90s/early 2000s techno, but he also includes recent cuts while keeping his gaze fixed on the record shelves. His style incorporates a fast-paced blend of loops, percussion, and rhythm to create an innovative sound that is reminiscent of the past. Recent headline shows in Boston and Toronto, combined with his breakneck style of vinyl mixing have seen him become a highly sought-after selector. The Cork native polished his chops by playing with his brother at underground showcases under the name The Hanley Brothers. Elements Electric is a brand new label out of Dublin, Ireland being brought to life with the latest release from acclaimed local producer Peter Sweeney aka Rustal (393 Records, Diffuse Reality). Heart Drives The Machine is the name of this aptly titled 4-tracker. This is an expansive techno record that touches on acid, electro, house and the aforementioned techno, all of it heavily imbued with influences from the American midwest, most notably Detroit - maintaining the long running connection between the Irish capital and the home of techno. On opener Celestial Flame, Sweeney pitch-bends the acid as hard-hitting syncopated drums bring things back to earth with a gritty thump. Love Not Lost takes a more direct approach to 303-infused deep techno as soaring keys in the background make sure the soul of the machines is never far away as the song continues to ascend. Motor City Man is a fitting title for a song that mainlines a classic 90s Detroit house organ riff over propulsive drums; reminiscent of D1 Recordings at its peak, it's a ready-to-build floor filler if ever there was one. JenTen has been steadily rising within the Irish techno scene as of late. Peruvian-American Farsight has had a string of recent releases on labels like Scuffed, Cloudcore and most recently Rinse FM’s own label having also delivered a top-notch set for Boiler Room in which he debuted 'Cerebral Peanut' from this EP. Iranian-born Ardalan has been spreading his nascent party brand Ardy Party all over North America while maintaining a dynamic range in styles from releases on Pets Recordings, Toy Tonics, and Dirtybird. The two of them have joined forces to great effect here and deliver a release that exemplifies the label’s commitment to reimagining classic electro. Ar Ais Arís (AAA) is an electronic music night providing a safe space for counter-culture in Galway, on the west coast of Ireland. It combines DIY approaches with high production values through art, graphic design, venue decor & lighting, and high-end soundsystems. ntrinsic Rhythm is delighted to release new music by Irish Electro great Decal (Alan O'Boyle) that was initially planned for his "Trama Industries" label in the early 2000's with 4 across the physical 12" vinyl release and 8 digitally. Decal on this release - "At the time I'd have been fairly upfront about wanting to release tracks that were faster than most and in a style that wasn't straight electro. Some of these tracks fell into a weird middle ground for me, so they got put aside. It had been 20 years since I'd heard any of them and on listening back I reckoned that time had been kind to them so I started remastering them and uploading to Soundcloud alongside some classic 12" releases from my label Trama Industries. For me, it was interesting to hear sounds and techniques emerging on some later tracks that would form the basis of my later projects like Legion Of Two and Of One. I'd kinda forgotten about that. This weeks entry to the Local Selection welcomes a live recording from two rising DJs Emmie and Faye as they have so kindly shared their set taken from their gig in Wigwam playing for Research before D.Dan back in December. The pair weave through an array of hypnotic cuts throughout the recording which make for a delightful listen. For the 235th edition of the series, we have a superb back-to-back recording featuring Kildare-born and now Dublin-based DJs Emmie and Fayeolo from their show with Research supporting Mala Junta resident and summerpup label owner D.Dan in Wigwam back in December of 2023. Both DJs began mixing when they started college just shy of 2 years ago and have harnessed their skill and dedication during this time while enjoying a range of opportunities as solo artists and as a back-to-back pairing. Showing an impeccable level of understanding of techno, Emmie and Fayeolo derive inspiration from the late 90s and early 00s era of the genre. This has resulted in playing for acclaimed parties such as Slither, Research and Hidden Love across the city in a range of venues, while both artists will enjoy their festival debuts this St. Patrick’s Day at Otherside which will be a fantastic achievement for both artists. As both Emmie and Fayeolo gain more knowledge about the foundations of underground dance music, they delve further into sub-genres of techno. The 234th Local Selection Mix is soundtracked by Dublin dance music royalty, Charlie. The veteran DJ shifts through his soul-soaked stacks, selecting a mesmerising hour of rare cuts from glittering disco to dusty jazz-touched grooves. A familiar name to many, Charlie has been slinging records since the early 90’s. It all started after his first visit to Side’s DC in 1990, Charlie knew he wanted to be a DJ and began a lifelong passion for music. It was around this time that Charlie would begin his association with Abbey Discs, the Dublin record hub and Mecca for Irish DJs. Charlie was well-known in the mid to late 1990s for his basement parties at the Ferryman on the quays and whatever other venue he could find. He then went on leave for a few years, returning in 2008 after spending some time with his family. His return to the booth included a support set for the revered Darren Emerson alongside hosting a weekly show with Phever Radio. Following this Charlie would begin to collaborate with friend Pat Hyland to form the Northside Loft Society, which held shows in Tengu. Charlie often performs in Dublin venues such as Hang Dai, Izakaya Basement, Pawnshop, and The Big Romance, to mention a few. Charlie is a proud local DJ who oozes coolness from the moment his fingertips touch the platter of the turntable. Charlie’s submission for the Local Selection exemplifies his remarkable talent for delving deep into his huge collection to unearth hidden jewels and timeless classics, resulting in a nostalgic sound that remains as fresh as ever. French-based label Cielo Records is a techno project from JC Laurent that has so far been a vessel for his own cutting-edge ideas and diverse taste. Having over ten years of production experience to his name, JC Laurent has released on the likes of Coyu's Suara, Abstract Division's Dynamic Reflection, and Deepak Sharma's Hidden Recordings amongst others. Na Nich is a Ukranian artist who features with the solo remix here and can be found on the mighty Delsin Records, Svreca's Semantica, Viels' End of Perception and his own Rhythm Büro. Starting with "Comet" it's a melting pot of dub techno and modular sound effects with an ethereal, analogue presence. Second up is the "Comet (Na Nich Remix)" which adds an even more dreamy textures to some elements turning it into a dystopian soundscape. "Nothing But An Illusion" steps into a slightly leftfield approach with cyclical tones, shuffling beat and a sci-fi aesthetic. The final track titled "The Switch" is an overall deeper facet of techno that intertwines with a looming intensity. Today’s premiere is a free download from Dublin-native Aero as he shares a bumping production titled ‘I Know You Got Hardcore’. This funk-driven techno track combines meddling low-end and catchy vocals, resulting in a ferociously energising listen. To put things lightly, Aero has grown into one of Ireland’s most prolific Irish artists in recent times, the youngster has carved out a career that is wrapped around the foundations of purist techno. Arketip Discs is a Barcelona-based vinyl and digital imprint co-founded by Spear and Makuto that has featured music by Reeko, Truncate, Temudo, ORBE and Eduardo De La Calle. Makuto is the label head from Spain with a growing reputation and who has kept his productions exclusively to Arketip Discs so far. “Sfera” is a hypnotic and atmospheric cut with modular accents and tones that morph and expand in sleek style. A. Morgan is from Manchester, UK and has been establishing his productions with revered releases on the likes of Jay Clarke’s Blackaxon, Joton’s Newrhythmic, Hans Bouffmyhre’s Sleaze and Berlin’s BCCO. “Vogue One” has a stripped-back style and groove focused rhythm with creative sound design and precise percussion highlights. VIL is known as a core member of the Portuguese outfit HAYES, and has released music on Ben Klock’s Klockworks, Ben Sims’ Hardgroove, Shlomi Aber’s Be As One, and TWR72’s Float amongst others. “The Reaction” has a shuffling and quirky rhythm with deep, floating chords and electric elements creating a unique vibe. A longtime fixture in Ireland’s dance music scene, the Dublin City native has made a name for himself as a renowned label boss, DJ, and promoter. When it comes to DJs and curators, Hanlon is in a league of his own as his sound has remained consistent and unadulterated, making him one of the few original purists left in the Irish capital. Hanlon is best known for his work under Apartment Records, one of Dublin’s most illustrious imprints, operating since 2011. For over ten years, the label has offered intricate releases from artists such as TR One, Chase Smith, New Jackson, Belacqua, and countless more, positioning itself as a leader in forward-facing Irish dance music. Hanlon is also involved in one of Ireland’s most unique festivals, Open Ear. Kenny has tirelessly and passionately advocated for nonconformist Irish club sounds, always leaning towards the weird and wonderful corners of the electronic spectrum. The 229th instalment of The Local Selection Mix comes from Influence Resident’s NAT TYPE & FOCKER who provide a live recording from their set at Dublin’s Cellar. The Dubliners join forces for a full-throttle industrial techno affair that is not for the faint of heart. The first Local Selection of 2024 and the 228th edition of the series comes from Dublin-based DJ and promoter Sean Ruane. The Cynical head honcho manoeuvres through an array of groovy and hypnotic techno over the 65 minutes of his set, primarily paying homage to the genre’s golden era. This week’s entry to the Four Four Local Selection Mix Series welcomes Dublin native Sean Ruane. Having played an array of shows for parties such as Lost, Oblivion, Loose Tooth Dental Club, Somewhere Else and more in venues like Bow Lane, Fibbers, Cellar and The Soundhouse highlights this young DJ’s passion and appreciation for all things dance music. This has lead him to start his own night and mix series titled ‘Cynical’ where the Dublin-based collective aims to showcase a broad range of local and international talent through events and their Cynical Mix Series. Corcra’s sound preference as an artist leans on the groove of disco, funk, soul, and old-school house. Today's premiere comes from Dublin's own James Cherry. The now Amsterdam-based DJ and producer releases his first ever full-length album titled 'Orb Weaver' on his own label 'Exile Instinct'. This release acts as a major landmark for James as he showcases his own signature sound within the realm of techno. The album is made up of 11 original productions along with a remix from Cyd. James Cherry's Orb Weaver project has taken years to get to this point. To release an album on your own label is no easy feat for any artist. We premiere new music from New York natives Avision & Xander as they team up for the ‘Whatever’ EP, a project which has been five years in the making. We premiere the Breaks Mix, a vintage electro-cut that leans on funked-up snare rolls, booming 808’s and a slick vocal hook that catches the groove right from the source. West London’s Lucagotbbm has summoned the skills of Irish/German whizz-kid David Jackson to co-produce his latest track ‘TRANZIT’ out now via One House. Ethereal Skies have recently announced their new venture from a club night that now covers the areas of a mix series and label too. Their inaugural label release is titled 'Aerga' which translates to 'the air or the ether' as Gaeilge, comprising of 21 track contributions from a vast range of Irish and international artists from Dublin and afar in an attempt to platform compelling avant-garde electronic music. NANCY Live provides a new behemoth double-sided single titled ‘Psymon Psays’, forthcoming on Juliet Fox’s label @tregambe NANCY Live (Lauren) caught Juliet’s attention a few years ago; her energy and crazy amount of creativity being the main hook. One thing which particularly stood out for Juliet was a video of Lauren using her nose to trigger a drop on a piece of hardware while playing a live set. The pair eventually connected earlier this year through mutual contacts, and Lauren sent some music over to Juliet to check out. Juliet began to road-test the tracks in her sets and each time they would get a wonderful response. Fast forward to now, and we’re delighted to welcome another smiling, positive and happy ball of energy to the label; we can’t wait to see dancefloors worldwide moving to these tracks. This week's entry to the Local Selection welcomes Dublin-based DJ, producer and Hearpro boss Jamaal Eydan under his newly formed moniker focused on the lighter side of techno. This recording is inspired by summer adventures and features a flurry of fitting selections in the process. Jamaal's foothold within the Dublin dance community has only grown stronger in recent times as the individual behind Hearpro. Which is an earplug company on a mission that asks individuals to surrender their ears to the music without surrendering their hearing. Having seen great success since its launch it has protected numerous dancers and artists alike from hearing loss in the process. Additionally, Jamaal has just recently launched his Posterboy alias and an EP from the project which comprised of 5 groove and vocal-lead techno tracks that included a wide range of percussive elements throughout. This is a step in a different direction from his previous work which lies closer to more fast-paced and harder techno elements. In light of this change of artistic direction, Posterboy has just been announced for his first headline slot which is due to take place this Saturday on the Main Floor in Wigwam. When asked about this new artistic endeavour regarding the Posterboy alias, Jamaal expressed that; Posterboy is a project I started when I wanted to express a different approach to techno than I have in the past. We premiere new music from revered house producer José Cabrera as he releases his Le Bateleur LP on his A Harmless Deed imprint. We feature ‘A Track for Clau’, a Detroit-laced house groove that is rolling in futuristic funk. Accomplished Spanish artist José Cabrera enters a fresh creative chapter with the new album Le Bateleur. The storytelling and hugely personal record arrives on his own A Harmless Deed label and is a deep dive into the house music he has always loved. Over the last two decades and under several aliases, Madrid-born Cabrera established himself as a leading techno producer. He has released influential labels like Fred P’s Soul People Music, Tresor, Deeply Rooted and Ron Moreli`s’ L.I.E.S. records and co-runs A Harmless Deed with friend Damian Schwartz. As a DJ he has toured Europe, Asia, North and South America and proven himself to be an experimental DJ with a long-standing residency at Tresor in Berlin. When the pandemic hit in 2020, Cabrera felt detached from the techno world so used his time at home to explore new sounds. He has always had a love of house so set work on making a proper house record in the mold of greats who went before. He worked with other musicians and vocalists, made use of an array of Roland drum machines, Juno synths and Casio keys to cook up a raw and authentic sound and drew from a wide range of the back music that has soundtracked his life. The resulting album is packed with life and energy, skits from friends and timeless grooves. ‘Track For Clau’ is a hyper-speed future house groove that is bursting with bumping kicks, bouncing bass rhythms and busy synth arps bringing the light to a glossy uplifting house record. The live recording features two of Dublin’s wildest parties, Slither and Lost as they came together for a night of B2Bs as the two collectives went head to head. Berlin-based ZentaSkai presents ‘The Architecture Of The Mind LP’, the debut album on MASK. We premiere new music from emerging Dublin producer RUANAIDH as the young artist releases his debut track, ‘Shamisen Break’. The youngster blends leftfield percussive grooves with hard-edged techno grit to create an introspective club track that defies genre. RUANAIDH, the moniker of Dublin-based DJ Richie Rooney, is an exciting and innovative force in Dublin’s electronic music scene. Favouring a blend of bouncy rave and techno tunes, but also not shy to veer into ghetto, electro, jungle and bass, Ruanaidh tends to blur the lines of genre, and never stick to one sound. His versatility has earned him slots in many of Dublin’s finest venues, including Index, Wigwam, The Sound House, Bow Lane Social Club and many more. Additionally, he has held down support slots for big names like LaLa, Prozak, and Prince Prada. The track is built around an enchanting melody of the shamisen, a traditional Japanese folk instrument known for its haunting and evocative tones.
