Between his tools—like Lead Propeller, Prophawk, and Roddy’s Foreclosure Listing—and the more than 800 properties he owns across Texas, his businesses generate a quarter million dollars in revenue every month. Josh Pather started a photo booth rental business as a side hustle in 2012. Within three years, his company was doing 850 events a year—and that was just the start of the growth spurt that landed it on Inc. 5000’s list of the fastest-growing companies in Texas in 2020. Josh talks us through the steps in his entrepreneurial journey in this episode. The idea to start a photo booth business came to Josh while he was working as an event DJ. He built his first photo booth from scratch and started renting it out for weekend events, all while working a job for a large company during the week. When his job was moved overseas, Josh took this as a sign it was time to focus on his business full-time. By 2015, Josh was facing the best problem a business owner can have: He had more business than he could handle, with as many as 10 events happening on any given Saturday. He was also getting a lot of inquiries from people wondering where they could buy photo booths. This gave Josh the idea to start Photo Booth International, giving entrepreneurs a turnkey model they could use to start photo booth businesses of their own. Josh credits his business growth to a combination of hard work and his marketing expertise. In this interview, he’ll talk through the marketing strategy he used to build a customer base early on, and how he adjusted that strategy when he expanded into selling photo booths to entrepreneurs. Andrew Gomez was still in college when he started his trucking business, AJG Transport. Now, he’s grown from 2 trucks to a fleet of 80 with over $1 million a month in gross revenue. He’s sharing his tips to start a trucking company with fast growth potential in this episode. Andrew comes from an entrepreneurial family. Thomas Sowell discusses economic inequality, racial inequality, and the myths that have continued to falsely describe the system of poverty among different racial and economic classes. He explains the economic theories behind these pervasive myths and proposes fact-based solutions for seemingly intractable situations.  Sowell discusses his early life as a high school dropout and his first full-time job as a Western Union messenger delivering telegrams. He admits to flirting with Marxism in his early twenties as he first tried to grapple with the housing inequality he saw across the neighborhoods of New York City. Marxism, he says, was the only explanation he could find at the time. He went on to serve in the Marine Corps before continuing his education in economics at Harvard and earning a master’s at Columbia and a PhD at the University of Chicago.  Sowell’s first job after his receiving his PhD in economics was working for the Department of Labor, and he says it was there that he realized Marxism was not the answer. He argues that the government has its own institutional interests in inequality that cannot be explained through Marxism. He began to be discouraged by Marxism and the government in general and began searching for better economic ideas and solutions (the free market).
