Financial expert, Rachel Cruze, joins Amy to talk about her new book I'm Glad For What I Have. “It’s ok to have nice stuff, just don’t let your stuff have you” is something Rachel often says, so it was important for her to write this book to spark meaningful conversations with kids about entitlement and contentment.
Amy & Rachel also talk about the top things we get wrong about money, creative side hustles, money ‘trends’ that are draining our bank accounts, when to discuss money when dating, and recommendations for listeners (especially women) who need to ask for a raise.

Thu, 30 Nov 2023 - 836 - Loving For No Reason, Where Jay Shetty Got It Wrong, Amy's Weird Rash & More (5th Thing)
Is watching TV together the lowest form of intimacy? Amy & Kat break down a comment made by Jay Shetty about TV being the lowest form of intimacy for couples. Kat reminds us that this blanket statement has the potential to make people feel shame or question what is working for them in their relationship. Depending on what you both enjoy, tv watching might be a great way for you to connect with your significant other! When an expert shares something like this, approach it like an idea, not a fact. Kat shares that she loves watching shows and also listening to audiobooks with her fiancé while they are on a walk together. They might not be talking in those moments, but they are still enjoying something together and it leads to conversations afterwards. Amy and Kat also chat about some recent health scares they’ve both had, including Amy’s rash on her temples, and Kat’s confession of having 11 cavities after not going to the dentist for 5 years! PSA: Flossing is important! Don’t skip it!
Today’s Quote is from a sign in someone’s front yard: “I love you. You are probably thinking you don’t even know me, but if people can hate for no reason, I can love for no reason.” Kat is considering putting a little sign outside of her therapy practice. Amy suggested putting up a therapy joke: "Why did Waldo go to therapy? To find himself!"

OUTWEIGH: In Part 2 of this series, Leanne is back to discuss the often-misunderstood topic of body fat and its relationship with fascia. She emphasizes the importance of understanding and appreciating fat, as it plays a crucial role in the body's functions and should not be stigmatized.
She also delves into the science behind fat and fascia, breaking it down very simply, but also highlighting how they are not just passive tissues but play active roles in metabolism, hormonal regulation, and more. She also walks you through how fascia, a connective tissue, can interact with fat, affecting issues such as fat storage and fat loss.

Thu, 23 Nov 2023 - 833 - Finding Interdependence In Your Relationship, The 7 Primal Questions, Making Dreams Coming True (5th Thing)
Today’s quote is from NEEDTOBREATHE’s song “Dreams”:
That's why I throw my bones in the rhythm
Sink my teeth in a good time
Whole lot more than a feeling
I could lose
That's I why I brace myself every minute
Trying to hold on tight for a good ride
Fools like us are only here to prove
You make dreams come true
Amy asks the question: when it comes to accomplishing the dreams in your life, where there has been struggle, but you’ve preserved - what comes to mind for you?
As a follow up to Amy’s conversation with her friend, Jeremiah, last week, Kat gives her thoughts on the 7 Primal Questions:
Am I safe? Am I secure? Am I loved? Am I wanted? Am I successful? Am I good enough? Do I have purpose?Kat’s fiance did something to make her feel insecure when talking in his sleep which leads to a conversation about premarital couples counseling, keeping separate bank accounts, and interdependence (the healthy space between fully independent & co-dependent).

Tue, 21 Nov 2023 - 832 - The Truth About Your Fat - Part 1 (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Nowadays fat has a bad rap. We hate it. We fear it. We name it. We blame it. We shame it. Some people will do whatever they can to destroy it and eliminate its "wrath" from their lives. But who ever said that fat was ugly, or something to be ashamed of? And what if you could work WITH it (learn how to actually take care of it on a nervous system level so you can actually get rid of it if that's what you want to do) instead of working AGAINST it? Since it IS such a prevalent "enemy" in today's world, and since it's not going away anytime soon, we might as well learn about it, right?
Unfortunately no one is talking about that side of it. What you eat and how you move is PART of the equation, but it doesn’t cover the whole picture. Not even close! And I truly believe (and science will back me up!) that your health, body, and emotional struggles are simply EFFECTS of something going on ‘higher up’ in your brain and nervous system (SEE ALSO: That system of systems that dictates EVERYTHING!). And in this 4 part series, we are going to talk about a subject matter that baffles most women and causes more shame and sadness than any topic I’ve encountered: The Truth About YOUR FAT (and what you can actually do about it)

Tue, 14 Nov 2023 - 828 - Do You Know Your True Value and Worth? (Part 5) (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Amy and Leanne are back for PART 5 of the 5-part Self-Image series called "Do You Know Your True Value and Worth?", where they take a deep dive into the concept of "Self Endorsement".
It's not practical or even possible for anyone (specially women) to completely disregard what others think about them. However, what is possible is learning to value your own opinion of yourself (even just a little bit) more than someone else's opinion of you.
Imagine a world where you might LIKE that validation, but you don't NEED external endorsement to determine your own self-worth, beauty, or desirability. That is the conversation that Amy and Leanne invite you into in this episode, helping you to ultimately reshape your own self-image in a more empowering way.

Wed, 28 Jun 2023 - 779 - Intuition 101: God, May I Be a Vessel of Service?
Welcome to Soul Sessions! Amanda Rieger Green invites you on a journey to explore your intuitive development- deepening your connection with your higher power, the universe, God, or faith in an effort to better know yourSelf and feel aligned with your soul’s evolutionary path.
Intuition takes courage, practice and dedication. As children, we come onto the planet highly intuitive and curious. For some people that sticks, and for others it’s underdeveloped or halted at times based on life experience. Amanda is going to show you how to build and strengthen your intuitive muscles while developing a community where we can get curious and have fun together in our own self-exploration.
This week, Amanda shares her journey through the dark night of the soul, which blocked her from the sunlight of the spirit. Dealing with old traumas through alcoholism, addiction, depression, and anxiety, Amanda wasn’t living an aligned life or feeling connected to God and source energy. When she came to a place of compassionate surrender, she started developing hope and the desire for peace- wanting to heal, live clearer and more aligned with something greater.
While her gifts are organic, they didn’t happen overnight. Amanda was using her intuitive gifts in a leadership capacity in the healthcare field and eventually could not deny her soul’s calling to support others in channeling and focusing their divine spark. Amanda wants to share practical tools & techniques to help you learn to embody your innate wisdom. She tells the story of her first time reading spirit for someone she didn’t know which affirmed her God-given gifts, sparked deeper personal meaning, and helped her know that we are not alone.
Join us on this journey – be curious, ask questions, get your spiritual light turned on, and learn to live authentically yourself!

Wed, 01 Nov 2023 - 776 - Do You Know Your True Value and Worth? (Part 4) (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Amy and Leanne are back for PART 4 of the 5-part Self-Image series called "Do You Know Your True Value and Worth?", where they take a deep dive into the concept of "Self Worth".
It's crucial to understand what you are "weighing" and measuring in your life, as well as the currency by which you are judging yourself --- especially if you are constantly "weighing" yourself based on external factors like your appearance, jean size, career status, relationship status, fill-in-the-blank --- rather than defining and setting your own 'currency' for self-worth.Many women have never examined this aspect of themselves, and that's why Amy and Leanne encourage you to reflect on how you are valuing yourself, and in this episode they walk you through creating a self-worth currency that aligns with your personal goals and happiness, rather than relying solely on external 'measuring sticks'.

Thu, 02 Nov 2023 - 774 - Premature Intimacy, Grilled Cheese Hack, Pretending to Hate Gossip, & More (5th Thing)
Have you heard of PMI? Short for "premature intimacy". It's when you share too many personal details too early in a relationship. Amy & Kat talk about everything from dating trends (like PMI & VBD: "vision board dating") to a list of things people pretend to hate (like gossip) to what women do for confidence (like changing hair). Kat also shares some wedding updates...like her new exciting idea to do at the end of the evening for a late night treat. This led to an entire conversation about dipping sauces & whether or not it's acceptable to put ketchup on a breakfast biscuit?? This led to a grilled cheese hack that Amy's dad taught her...it guarantees the perfect golden outside & she also shares a tasty+salty+sweet concoction that he used to make! Circling back to gossip...Kat shares some ways to not use it as a low form of connection since it's one of the top things people pretend to hate. OUTWEIGH: Amy and Leanne are back for PART 3 of the 5-part Self-Image series called "Do You Know Your True Value and Worth?", where they take a deep dive into the concept of "Self Esteem", which revolves around the "know, like, and trust" factor of yourself.
Many women struggle with trusting themselves because they make promises to themselves but fail to follow through. And this is the cycle that causes you to lose trust and respect in yourself, and leads you to lack confidence and reliance on your own abilities. Instead of having a relationship of trust, confidence, and belief in yourself, your trust becomes negotiable, and it affects your entire self-image...until NOW!
Amy and Leanne walk you through the process of up-leveling and rewiring your self-image, so you can stop the cycle of making unkept promises, earn back your own trust, and make certain aspects of your life non-negotiable.

OUTWEIGH: Amy and Leanne are back for PART 2 of the 5-part Self-Image series called "Do You Know Your True Value and Worth?", where they take a deep dive into the concept of "Self Care", which (as you'll learn) is so much more than a "manicures and bubble baths" conversation.

Self-care is not just about diet and exercise but about understanding what it takes to care for yourself in a holistic sense, and that's why they invite you to redefine your own definition of health, starting at the mind, body, spirit, heart level, rather than being solely focused on physical aesthetics or hard work.
Self care is SO personal, and that's why relying on others to dictate your own health and well-being can be limiting and disempowering. Join Amy and Leanne as they pave the way to a more 3-dimensional Self-Care conversation that encompasses taking care of your entire brain and nervous system -- from mind and body to heart and spirit.

Sat, 21 Oct 2023 - 769 - Don’t Mess With an Enneagram 8, When a "Prank" Goes Too Far & More
Amy talks to Haley about a recent terrorization at her home by teenagers in her neighborhood. They had shirts covering their faces in an effort to remain anonymous, but they messed with the wrong house because Haley is an enneagram 8. She was not going to let this go until she tracked down who these kids were. She called 911, talked to the police & put a campaign up on her social media. In a few short hours she had them identified....don't mess with Haley (or her husband, as he is a lawyer!) These teens probably think they're partaking in something innocent & funny, but their behavior is not okay! Parents: we need to make sure we're talking to our kids about the dangers of these types of "pranks" (someone could get shot...seriously!)
Other things discussed:
- Acceptable pranks (what happened to simply toilet papering houses?)
- One bad decision could change your life
- Ghostbusters

Thu, 19 Oct 2023 - 768 - Unbecoming Everything That Isn't You + Can We Agree to Disagree & Choose Kindness Over Snarkiness?? (5th Thing)
Today's episode revolves around a post that one of our listeners, Ashley Beck, put up about how the worst of us can show up so easily online. She appropriately titled the post: "A Place for the Worst in Us" and we hope this chat will help us all think twice before we post a rude or snarky comment online.
Ashley starts off asking for help (on Nextdoor) after her home was burglarized. She was hoping to find neighbors who might have video surveillance, etc... The comments were thoughtful at first and then soon went to the place most social media has the tendency to go: meanness and name-calling about elected officials, police, and generalizations about the citizens of Baton Rouge. None of it was helpful or relevant. This leads Ashley to wonder: Have we lost the ability to hold our tongues, to take a step back, to not rush to snap judgment or share every thought that enters our minds?? Her post ends with encouragement as she longs for neighbors who can agree to disagree and respond with civility and respect on important matters like political issues and religious views, and more benign things like hobbies, tone of voice, and food choices, and everything in between.
Thank you Ashley for this important conversation...we all need to keep this in mind when we're online!QUOTES:

Tue, 17 Oct 2023 - 767 - Do You Know Your True Value and Worth? (Part 1) (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Amy and Leanne are here for PART 1 of the 5-part Self-Image series called "Do You Know Your True Value and Worth?", where they take a deep dive into the concept of "Self Acceptance".
This is often the most challenging aspect of our Self-Image to grasp, because many of us are so focused on our flaws, shortcomings, and past mistakes... so accepting ourselves feels foreign.
Amy and Leanne walk you through practical ways to practice true self-acceptance when it comes to embracing yourself without exception, without shame, blame, guilt, or self-rejection, and without comparison-itus or perfectionism.
It's about accepting yourself as you are right now, 'warts' and all, without waiting to achieve certain goals to feel that way. This is so much easier said than done, and that's why they break it down in easy-to-digest baby steps that will meet you where you are in your own self-acceptance journey.

Amy's guest is Josie Rushing, an Award Winning Brazilian Celebrity Massage Therapist and one of the names behind the Brazilian Lymphatic Massage.
AMY & JOSIE DISCUSS:
-Ways to Detox Your Body Daily (you need to get this tongue scraper ASAP)
-How to know if your body is inflamed
-Benefits of Lymphatic Massage
-Why self-tanner is ruining our skin
-Josie shares an easy self-massage that you can do to your stomach when you need to use the bathroom but you're not able to (aka: you're constipated!)

Considered a major part of our immune system, lymph nodes are located all over the body but most identifiable in the neck, armpits, and groin areas. Unfortunately, stagnant lymph flow can result in swelling, bloating, fatigue, and/or excess toxins left to accumulate within our body. Having a BLDM regimen can assist us with promoting that system to detox naturally — and energize the body. In Brazil, having these types of therapeutic massages done is a regular thing like getting your hair done, nails, or facials are here in America.
The Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage by Josie Rushing is an exclusive method that instantaneously sculpts your body. It starts with an invigorating warm up; stimulating specific points of the body, while improving blood circulation with the “cupping” technique. The Majority of the work is done manually and is perfect for aligning and exalting your curves. This massage provides you with a 50-minute session of relaxation that will make you forget about all the worries of your busy life.

Email from Donnetta: I'm catching up on the Bobby Bones Show podcast (I'm way behind!) and just heard the segment about one of your kids going by a different name at school. I love that you are trying to be supportive of your kid in their name choice. When I was in 4th grade, I wanted so badly to be Kelly Kapowski from Saved by the Bell, and I was tired of people struggling with my name (and mocking my last name, which was Stonerock....lots of Flintstones jokes made at my expense), so I started signing my assignments with the name Kelly. My math teacher (which was at a private school) decided to keep me from getting the grades I earned because "there's no Kelly in this class" and without my name on a paper (in a class of 8, mind you. Process of elimination should have been pretty simple), I got a zero. When my parents heard about it, I got into so much trouble for trying to change my name because they had put time and effort into my name. I remember being so angry and feeling like they didn't care about my feelings or opinions, nor were they interested in listening to anything I had to say. All that to say, it actually helps my inner child to hear your very different approach to a similar situation.
Email from Kayla: You asked in a recent the 5th thing episode about whether episode titles affect how we listen. I’m sure it’s different for everyone but I personally do enjoy getting a little glimpse of what the episode is going to entail, so that I can gauge if it would be a good time for me to listen to a particular episode based on my mood. For example, I recently skipped one about grief because while it’s been 11 years since my dad passed, I just wasn’t in a place that day to listen to anything heavy or grief related. While I like the idea of a cute title such as “food, free people, & freeing your mind”, I really appreciate the titles that provide some insight as to what the episode covers. Love everything y’all do! keep it up!Email from Hannah: Just started listening to your podcast, so I’m going back and listening to past episodes. Just listen to your newest episode today and I’m not going to lie if I see a title that has nothing to do with me or something that I’m not interested in knowing or learning about. I have skipped it. I love your show so far. I listen to Bobby bones show all the time and one day I looked your name up on Apple Podcasts and found this one!

Tue, 03 Oct 2023 - 761 - Beyond the Mirror: Fashion's Role in Self-Love and Body Image With Sarai White (Part 2) (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: In part 2 of this series, Leanne is back with guest Sarai White as they dive into the foundational beliefs that undermine our relationship with fashion (and how these beliefs can be reshaped to foster self-love and confidence).
They challenge the common notion that you need to meet certain standards or goals before you 'deserve' to look and feel great in your clothes and other myths and common beliefs that come up for women as they are exploring this subject. More importantly they invite you into the powerful transformation that occurs when you recognize your worth right now (not “when you get there” or reach a certain goal)...and embrace fashion through THOSE eyes.
They highlight the importance of living in the present moment, reminding you that the most special occasion is today. Waiting for some future "when" can hinder your journey towards self-love, and they explore how investing a little extra time in choosing and planning your outfits can make a world of difference in how you feel about yourself NOW.
Lastly, they celebrate the individuality of fashion. It's about defining your own style, not adhering to trends or others' expectations. Your fashion choices should be a reflection of your unique essence, and fashion is (and can be!) a potent tool for nurturing self-love and confidence.

Do you share your location with friends or family/spouses?? Amy & Haley sit down for an OG episode with all 4 things being different and the FIRST THING is tracking locations of loved ones! Haley has location services on for all of her friends...too much true crime has made her this way. FOURTH THING: When you go for a walk, do you always have your earbuds in? You may want to leave them at home next time. Tue, 19 Sep 2023 - 754 - The Cost of Skinny (The Truth About What the Diet Mentality is REALLY Costing You) (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: In this eye-opening episode of Outweigh, we take a deep dive into the untold truths about the "Cost of Skinny."
Leanne reflects on a pivotal moment in her own life, a major spine surgery at just 25 years old, which she endearingly calls the "Cost of Skinny." It's a powerful reminder of how the relentless pursuit of an idealized body image can lead to devastating consequences.
For years, Leanne was fixated on attaining a 'skinny,' 'lean,' 'toned,' or 'hot' body, drowning out the critical signals her body was sending her. Ignoring the screams for self-care, she pushed herself to the brink until her body couldn't take it anymore.
But that wasn't the only cost she paid. The "Diet Mentality" she had embraced for decades had inflicted additional invisible wounds:
★ A Food Prison: Constantly toggling between restrictive eating and carefree indulgence, caught in a cycle of obsession and guilt over every morsel of food.
★ A Body Prison: Feeling trapped in a body that didn't align with her true self, hiding behind oversized clothes, and allowing her body to dictate her life.
★ A Shame Prison: Carrying the burden of shame for struggling with food and body image, believing she was fundamentally flawed.
★ A 'Fat Head': A self-image tainted by negative self-perception, no matter how much weight she lost or how successful she became.
Leanne knows that her experience is far from unique. Every woman stuck on the diet and weight loss roller coaster is unknowingly paying their own "Cost of Skinny." In this episode, we dissect the ins and outs of how to break free from this destructive cycle, providing insights and strategies to help you avoid your own "Cost of Skinny" and embark on a journey toward self-acceptance, self-care, and genuine well-being.

Tue, 12 Sep 2023 - 751 - Busting Through The "Control Myth" (It’s not what you think) (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: One of the biggest myths out there in the Women’s Health ‘world’ is this idea that you should get ‘good’ at trying to CONTROL yourself.
I can’t even tell you how many women I speak with that WISH that they simply had more willpower or discipline or perseverance to feel 'in control', and that if they could just figure out how to make THOSE things show up for them, all would be well, and the problem would be solved.
I used to think the SAME THING about my own struggles with my weight and my own inability to stick with whatever the ‘diet of the month’ I promised myself I would follow through on.I came to learn that it was only because I was focusing on the WRONG thing. In fact, I was actually making my disordered eating WORSE! Because willpower and motivation and the ability to ‘grit’ my way through yet another unsustainable diet, were NOT my problems.
The REAL problem was this idea in my head that actually WANTED to ‘get good’ at controlling myself…or to be a better ‘rule-follower’.
THAT was the problem. It was that ‘Hyper-Control Mentality’ that was keeping me stuck, and the fact that I was trying to become MORE skillful in a way of thinking that was setting me up to LOSE and setting me up to FAIL…well that was just the icing on the cake. In this episode of Outweigh, we are going to explore the in’s and out’s of the ‘Control’ Myth….

The first words out of Ben's mouth are: "It's only awkward if you make it awkward" after Amy shares that 1 of the 4 things she's thankful for (during '4 Things Gratitude') is her co-parenting relationship with Ben and being able to celebrate his birthday as a family because some may find it odd that they get along so well, or awkward that they would record a podcast together, but nothing about this is awkward and the only goal is to potentially help others in a similar situation. The purpose of today's episode is to let listeners know that they will be recording a co-parenting Q&A (with questions sent in by listeners) and an interview with a co-parenting expert, as Amy and Ben make it clear that they are NOT experts.
Email your questions to 4thingswithamybrown@gmail.com and put CO-PARENTING in the subject line.
OTHER THINGS DISCUSSED:-Amy asked Ben to share some "wisdom" now that he's another year older
-Will they ever write a book together?
-Something their therapist had them do often to help with communication was: "what I heard you say was...." and they still use that to this day
-Ben told Amy that he might get a "green ring" (something single people that aren't on "dating apps" wear to indicate that they're open to meeting people/dating)
-Ben's LinkedIn (his only real social media presence) and its for his company (Tough Stump Technologies)
-& More!
P.S. Get your own 4 Things Gratitude Journalto help with a consistent gratitude practice & to support Haiti, as a 100% of proceeds go to education in Haiti.

Today's quote: "Some people hold you down and some people HOLD you down" immediately reminded Amy & Kat of a quote that has similar vibes: "You can't change the people around you, but you can change the people around you." (such a good one - they both are!)
THINGS DISCUSSED:-The time Amy threatened Steve Harvey on Family Feud
-Amy's dry mouth update & hormones
-You can die from drinking too much water?
-Full body scans that could save your life
-Amy's echocardiogram
-"Clear is kind, unclear is unkind"
-The healthiest food in the world (adding to grocery list asap)
-Amy's Rent-to-Own mishap
-Noticing charges on your bank account that aren't yours
-What people need to go on a second date with someone (and Amy's response to that)
-Beanie Baby movie on Apple+ (Amy's Madame Alexander dolls)
-Cricket Feet in bed will help you fall asleep faster
-5 minute meditation (are y'all doing it? Amy's sister texted her that she's thankful for something like this that is totally doable for her)
Hope you enjoy and have the day you need to have!!

Tue, 05 Sep 2023 - 748 - Acting As If (THINKING) When Downward Spiral Thoughts Rule Your Life (1 of 4)
PART 1 of 4: Are you feeling stuck or battling self-doubt? Do you want to take ownership of your life by taking ownership of your thoughts? If yes and yes, then "Acting As If" is for you!
Amy Brown & Self-Image Scientist Leanne Ellington designed this 4-part series to help you shift your thoughts, so that “Acting As If” becomes possible for your brain to adopt. In each episode, you get effective strategies to break free from the grip of negativity & gain insights on nurturing an "emotionally healthy" brain. In PART 1 you learn:
👉Why "Acting As If" is not a matter of positive affirmations or fake-it-til-you-make it.
👉Rewiring your brain for peace in the chaos
👉Distinguishing the data vs the drama of your situation
👉How to give yourself your own "reality check" to stop the downward spiral of thoughts in your brain.
We can all struggle with downward spiraling thoughts:
"Why did I eat that?"
"Why didn't he call me?"
"Why can't I stop that?"
"Does that make me a bad mom?"
"Why should I bother? Is this just how it will always be?"
Things like "fake it ‘til you make it" + turning everything “into a positive" will NOT outsmart your brain...and there’s a reason why.

Mon, 04 Sep 2023 - 747 - Acting As If (FEELING) When Your Thoughts Don’t Match How You Feel (2 of 4)
PART 2 of 4: Ever wonder why your thoughts and feelings don't sync up? Amy & Leanne share a fresh-yet-totally-doable approach that will help you reclaim the reins of confusing thoughts in our head…so that stepping into WHO YOU WANT TO BE actually becomes possible!
In PART 2 you learn:
👉Why it's not your CIRCUMSTANCES that dictate your reality, it's your THOUGHTS, and how every single thought CAUSES a feeling-- not the other way around.
👉Why your Self Image knows how you really feel, so before you can "act as if" or "believe a new reality", it's got to FEEL good, FEEL true, and resonate.
👉How to truly flip "negative emotions" on their head and find the gold in what it's trying to teach you.

PART 3 of 4: In this episode you will discover the truth about beliefs & change with Amy as Leanne shatters myths, revealing the powerful role of genuine belief in transforming your life.
In PART 3 you learn:
👉How your CURRENT Self-Image & Beliefs unconsciously undermine what you truly want.
👉Why "You can’t kid a kidder" (Why you cannot "B.S." your self-image)
👉Positive vs negative neuro-associations -- and how to make your Self Image beliefs (what they refer to as) "neuromagic"

Mon, 04 Sep 2023 - 745 - Acting As If (DOING) When What You Say Doesn't Align With What You Do (4 of 4)
PART 4 of 4: If you're tired of the 'say-do' gap, this episode will help bridge the divide and you'll see that you can achieve results by working smarter, not harder. The final part to break free from negativity and help you nurture an "emotionally healthy" brain is the doing and you're awesome for making it to the homestretch!
In PART 4 you learn:
👉How to play a "winning game" (And STOP playing a "losing game")
👉Minimums, not maximums (and how this is also part of neuro-magic)
👉How to "Reverse Engineer" your life.
👉Now you can truly “act as if.”

OUTWEIGH: Can you be happy and satisfied and feel like you've 'arrived'....AND still desire to do more, be more, have more, create more (and be absolutely unapologetic about it!)? We absolutely think so! And that's why we are here to talk about this very important distinction. These things do NOT have to cancel eachother out or stay mutually exclusive. But...there are some very important distinctions that you want to keep in mind--- especially since there are a lot of mixed messages out there about this topic.

Sat, 02 Sep 2023 - 743 - Things That'll Change the Way You Think, Feel & Show Up in This World
Amy and her cousin, Amanda Rieger Green, just got back from a restorative getaway trip! It was good for the soul in so many ways: laughter, meaningful conversation, time in nature, Lifetime movies, good food, time to EXHALE & more...
A quote from Rumi that came up on their trip that will change the way you think:
“It's your road, and yours alone, others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.”
In other words, if you don't find the courage to go after what you want in life, you'll never get it. Amanda is personally working through this as we speak!
OTHER THINGS DISCUSSED WITH AMANDA:
- Taking 5 minutes per day to meditate (also loaded on your 4 Things feed today is a free 5-min meditation led by Amanda. Try to do it every day this week because it will be a game-changer!)
- Challenging yourself to feel better & create balance
- Recognizing the call to action and TAKING THE ACTION
- Knowing that everyone is going through something even when from the outside they seem to have it all together
- Taking the word “bad” out of your vocabulary
- The data is in the doing (and you only get data by TRYING/DOING)
- Having courage to look back at your past to move forward

Thu, 31 Aug 2023 - 741 - The Power of Empathy + Are You Oversharing? (5th Thing)
Today’s quote: “Power of empathy: I’m in it with you. I’m not here to fix you. I’m not here to feel it for you. I’m here to feel with you and let you know you’re not alone.” -Brene Brown
Amy reads a few listener emails: one about connection & sharing things, one about a co-worker conflict, and another about evolving (which FYI: if you’re not evolving, you're dead!)
Kat gives us something to keep in mind when it comes to what we share publicly (like on social media or other platforms): “There is this culture that our whole lives can be exposed if we want them to be.” (Sometimes just sharing a small detail is more powerful than giving it all.)

Mon, 28 Aug 2023 - 739 - Two Things Can Be True At The Same Time: Part 7 [The Mini-Series] (Normalizing the In-Betweens and Healing From Extremism) (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Yep....it's true! Even the most confident, self-assured, empowered women can revisit old thought patterns.. This does NOT have to mean anything, it does NOT mean that you have backslid or regressed, and in fact, it's totally normal. What matters most is how you RESPOND (instead of react) to those thoughts. And that's why on this episode of Outweigh, we share some very important distinctions that you'll want to keep in mind around this subject specifically.
Amy & Leanne are back again for the SEVENTH episode of the Mini-Series Two Things Can Be True At The Same Time (Normalizing the In-Betweens and Healing From Extremism) where they share their thoughts and takeaways on how you can have BOTH: You can be revisit an old pattern, habit, or circumstance ...AND still be 'evolving' or growing past it (AKA experiencing something that you thought was “part of your past“ does not mean that you HAVE regressed or ARE regressed)

Thu, 24 Aug 2023 - 736 - How Keanu Reeves Protects His Peace & More (5th Thing)
Have you heard of PMDD? Amy was diagnosed with it in college and took Zoloft for it. This came up because last week on Thursday’s 4 Things episode Danae Hays talked about being put on Zoloft at 11-years-old. When Amy got on it in college it totally changed her personality (for the 2 weeks out of the month that she was supposed to take it), so she didn’t end up taking it too long. Should we be able to take off of work during our time of the month (IF WE NEED TO) without consequences?
TODAY’S QUOTE:
“Confidence is 10 percent hard work and 90 percent delusion. I firmly believe that the number one most important life skill you can learn is how to do scary things scared.” - Tina FeyOTHER THINGS DISCUSSED:
-The more self-aware you are…the more you realize how much you don’t know-Mom-shaming, limited viewpoints (mom-shaming examples)
-This is how Keanu Reeves protects his peace: “1 + 1 = 5?? Ok sure, you’re right.” (he just doesn’t want to waste time arguing with people and doesn’t have time for that as he’s gotten older)
-Impromptu actors/movie game

These things do NOT have to cancel eachother out or stay mutually exclusive. But...there are some very important distinctions that you want to keep in mind to make sure that you are leading yourself in the direction of health, freedom, and healing while you navigate this wide array of emotions..

Sat, 19 Aug 2023 - 734 - TikTok Star Danae Hays on Turning Childhood Anxiety into Confidence & Comedy
Amy’s guest today is the multi-talented content creator, influencer, singer-songwriter, comedian and TikTok star Danae Hays! Danae talks about her journey from softball player at Alabama to social media star to now recording a Country comedy album and developing her own 'one-woman show' with the various characters she's created over the years.
Growing up in Alabama, Danae had a passion for comedy – creating her own Saturday Night Live skits as a kid and being fascinated by video & editing. During the pandemic, she used that creative spirit to launch a TikTok filled with different characters inspired by her life which went viral overnight.
Like many comedians, Danae had some childhood trauma that played a role in her desire to make others laugh. She opens up about anxiety, OCD, being put on Zoloft at 11 years old, conversion therapy, and more. She also shares some very exciting news during '4 Things Gratitude.'

Thu, 17 Aug 2023 - 733 - Debating If I Should Continue My Healing Journey or Go Insane? (5th Thing)
Just because you’ve been in therapy for 15 years (or however long) and you still go doesn’t mean something is wrong with you or that it’s not working. Some people seem to think that there is a final destination when it comes to personal growth and that’s just not the case. This topic came up because of today's quote: “Debating if I should continue my healing journey or go insane?” (this made us Lol because it most definitely hits home for some days!)
Does Amy have some weird disease?? Amy has an underlying issue that is causing her mouth to be really dry. If anyone has any idea what this could be….let us know!
Shoutout Little Words Project!! Amy was given LWP bracelets by two different friends at a radio seminar this last weekend. One friend gave her ‘BLOOM’ and another gave her ‘KEEP GOING’ - these bracelets are so cute!
Do you know the difference between unplugging and recharging? It’s very important to know the difference and make sure you’re doing both!
What does Amy do with her wedding ring now that she is divorced? Jewelry is precious, so keeping it in the family is likely what she will do! Thoughts?
Amy & Kat talk about all of this & MORE! Hope you enjoy and have the day you need to have!!

Tue, 08 Aug 2023 - 723 - Life AFTER Healing & How to Bring It to Life with Guest Holly Baxter: Part 3 (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: We are back with our final follow-up to a topic that Amy and Leanne talked about a few weeks ago: How to have BOTH: a healthy relationship with food and your body AND begin to work towards the goals that are important to you (aka getting stronger, fitter, etc).
In that episode, Amy and Leanne explained that you absolutely can go set goals for yourself, but they invite you to take a sabbatical from typical goal-setting and “go-getting” and go heal your relationship with food and your body FIRST and rewire your brain….and then with THAT new brain and that NEW relationship with food and your body….then head in the direction of body-changing and weight loss or whatever goals you have in mind. But don’t skip over the healing phase.
That being said, it’s also important to talk about HOW to do just that… and what that actually looks like practically (including the “why behind the what”).
In this episode of Outweigh, health and fitness expert Holly Baxter is back on the show to to talk about setting goals AFTER your healing journey. She shares the most important things you need to know about making sure your healing journey stays front-of-mind, the mistakes to avoid along the way, and some pivotal advice to take into consideration if you are ready to focus on setting goals again AFTER you’ve healed from your own disorder.
CONTENT WARNING: Here at Outweigh we want to be sensitive to the fact that some of this subject matter might be a little bit confrontational for some of you on your healing journey, but we didn’t want to just NOT talk about it, or avoid these important subjects altogether. Because, wherever you are on your healing journey, at some point in time, you might be ready for whatever YOUR next step is, and that might include goal setting or focusing on new outcomes.
And most of what’s out there in the modern day world to meet you in those goals is a surefire way to bring you back down the road of toxicity and disorder, and we didn’t want to leave you hanging like that. So if you are in that place in your healing journey, and you’re ready to look at what’s next, this interview series shares a perspective on how to do just that– while still keeping your mental and emotional health AND your healing journey front and center.
So this is just a bit of a heads up that we are going to be covering some topics that might not have been broached yet on this podcast, but also just reiterating that the purpose is to show you how to view these once-controversial or difficult topics in a beautiful, healthy, and empowering way that ensures that your healing journey stays front and center. That's if or when you are ready. And if you’re not there yet, that is absolutely OK as well, and we simply invite you to tuck this information in your back pocket (or just skip it altogether right now) and just know it’s there when you’re ready. Because here at Outweigh, we always want you to feel safe to be exactly where you are, and we will always try to meet you there.

Sat, 05 Aug 2023 - 722 - Breakup Pain, Attachment Styles, Recipes for an Aching Heart (to Help You Heal From Grief, Loss, or the Stress of Everyday Life) & More

We love that Laura Lea chose ‘Aching’, not ‘broken.’ She said she did this because her cookbook content can serve you during any stressful season of life, not just romantic grief, and because there is NOTHING broken about you! Laura Lea is also a Heartache Consultant. If you are struggling to get over an ex and it is affecting you mentally, physically and emotionally connect with Laura Lea HERE!

Do you try to hold it together when what you really need is to fall apart? Kat showed up to Amy’s house in tears and she almost didn’t allow herself to show up that way. And that’s where today’s quote from Ally Fallon comes into play: “Things that want to hold together hold together. Things that want to fall apart fall apart.”
What is something that you thought was weird that only you dealt with, but later you found out you’re not alone and others deal with it too? Amy & Kat share some of their things and their face shaving tips!
There has been some controversy around the Barbie movie, so Kat & Amy shared their thoughts and Kat even did an entire ‘You Need Therapy’ podcast episode about it. Click HERE to listen to that!

Tue, 01 Aug 2023 - 720 - The Healing Powers of “Reversing” with Guest Holly Baxter: Part 2 (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: Have you ever heard of the concept of “Reversing”? It's something that is such a powerful tool for healing, but it is very rarely talked about. If you’ve ever wondered how to repair the physiological repercussions of living with disordered eating or an eating disorder, you don't want to miss this episode. Health and fitness expert Holly Baxter is back on Outweigh to talk about the healing powers of "Reversing". You’ll learn exactly what it is, why you should know about it, and how it can truly help you heal mentally, physically, metabolically, and beyond.

Tue, 25 Jul 2023 - 717 - Life AFTER Healing & Re-Defining What ‘Health’ Looks Like In Real Life with Guest Holly Baxter: Part 1 (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: We are back with another follow-up to a topic that Amy and Leanne talked about a few weeks ago: How to have BOTH: a healthy relationship with food and your body AND begin to work towards the goals that are important to you (aka getting stronger, fitter, etc).
In that episode, Amy and Leanne explained that you absolutely can go set goals for yourself, but they invite you to take a sabbatical from typical goal-setting and “go-getting” and go heal your relationship with food and your body FIRST and rewire your brain….and then with THAT new brain and that NEW relationship with food and your body….then head in the direction of body-changing and weight loss, or whatever goals you have in mind. But don’t skip over the healing phase.
That being said, it’s also important to talk about HOW to do just that… and what that actually looks like practically (including the “why behind the what”).
In this episode of Outweigh, Leanne invites her mentor, friend, and health and fitness expert Holly Baxter on the show to share a bit about redefining health on your own terms. She shares her own testimony, battle with eating disorders and body shame, and talks about how it’s shaped the way she coaches female clients – especially those that are on the road to healing.

Sat, 22 Jul 2023 - 716 - Find Your People. Overcome Adversity. Meet Tim Tebow. Park Your Heart Somewhere.
FIRST THING: Do you have people that you can share the good & the messy with, without judgment? If not, you need to find your people!!
SECOND THING: Do you want to be inspired by stories of resilience & perseverance? If so, this episode is filled with stories of people overcoming adversity.
THIRD THING: Have you ever wondered if Tim Tebow is the real deal? Well, founder of myLIFEspeaks, Mike Wilson, is Amy's guest & he shares an intimate Tim Tebow story that will answer that question for you.
FOURTH THING: Are you involved in supporting a cause that you actually care about? If not, Mike will encourage you to find something that is your jam & park your heart there ASAP!
Mike is the founder of myLIFEspeaks, an orphan care nonprofit based in Neply, Haiti that has been doing amazing work for over a decade. Mike has been on the podcast before and we appreciate his big heart so much. Sadly, Mike and his family had to leave Haiti because it's now too dangerous for Americans to be there. Mike gives us a glimpse of what is going on there and it's truly heartbreaking. Can you imagine kids being on a waiting list to join a gang? Because that is the reality for some kids in Haiti right now that have no family to care for them....they think the best option for "community" and "belonging" is a gang. It's tragic.
Thankfully myLIFEspeaks has always been run by Haitians, so even though Mike and his family had to leave the place they call home and love dearly, the village and the programs there are still thriving. They have overcome so much adversity and the work happening is life changing for so many. There is a way you can come alongside the work they are doing: CLICK HERE to learn more about what they do and to get details about their big event in October where Tim Tebow will be the keynote speaker! General admission tickets go on sale August 1st!

Thu, 20 Jul 2023 - 715 - Bizarre Lies Amy Was Told When Trying To Get Pregnant (5th Thing)
Do you know what you really want in life or do you only know what society tells you that you should want? Amy & Kat chat about several different things this week, but the most important part of their conversation is the reminder to ask yourself this question anytime you’re making a decision (especially a big “life” decision): “What part of me wants to do this and why?”
Years ago, Amy was doing everything under the sun to get pregnant because she didn’t want to fail as a woman (so we are made to believe) and it led to some interesting things. Amy found herself getting colonics (yes, THAT type of treatment) because she heard doing them regularly would up her chances of conceiving. The woman administering colonics started putting some bizarre lies (conspiracies) in Amy’s head and she was tempted to believe them since she was willing to try almost anything to get pregnant. All that to say, fertility issues led to the adoption of two sweet kids from Haiti, so you never know what blessings will come from surrendering to what you really want/need to do vs. what society tells you that you should want/need to do!

Tue, 04 Jul 2023 - 708 - Two Things Can Be True At The Same Time: Part 3 [The Mini-Series] (Outweigh)
OUTWEIGH: You can be on the journey to self-love and self-worth... AND still have really crappy thoughts about yourself show up.
Yep....it's true! Even the most confident, self-assured, empowered women can have "ugly" thoughts about themselves. This does NOT have to mean anything, and in fact, it's totally normal. What matters most is how you RESPOND (instead of react) to those thoughts. And that's why on this episode of Outweigh, we share some very important distinctions that you'll want to keep in mind around this subject specifically.
Amy & Leanne are back again for the THIRD episode of the Mini-Series Two Things Can Be True At The Same Time (Normalizing the In-Betweens and Healing From Extremism) where they share their thoughts and takeaways on how you can have BOTH: You can be on the journey to self-love and self-worth... OUTWEIGH: We are back again sharing Two Things that can ABSOLUTELY be true at the same time: You can be on the journey to self-love and self-worth (and not have self-worth tied to your appearance)....AND still care about what you look like.
These things do NOT have to cancel eachother out or stay mutually exclusive. But...there are some very important distinctions that you want to keep in mind--- especially since there are a lot of messages out there telling you that you "shouldn't" ever focus on your appearance or that it is 'vain' to care what you look like.
Here at Outweigh, we love to give a different perspective, and that's why Amy & Leanne came together for the SECOND episode of the Mini-Series Two Things Can Be True At The Same Time (Normalizing the In-Betweens and Healing From Extremism) where they share their thoughts and takeaways on how you can have BOTH: You can be on the journey to self-love and self-worth (and not have self-worth tied to your appearance)....AND still care about what you look like.HOST:

Wed, 14 Sep 2022 - 694 - The Power of a Good Cry (When Tears Lead to an “Aha” Moment)
Something happened to Amy after she had a really good cry the other day, an epiphany of sorts, and it has her feeling very thankful for everything that led to her breakdown. Claire, Amy's friend that joined in on this episode (who also happens to be a cognative therapist), says what Amy experienced after all of her tears totally makes sense. Amy and Claire talk about the power of a good cry, gratitude, gardening, "spending commandments" from @Your.RichBFF (so you don't regret a purchase), 4 things you can do to protect your summer self-care from @KatieGustafson.co, pre-marital counseling, adoption, @TheNashvilleBeautyGirl (ZO Skinhealth + Biopelle), Stachira running Amy's Instagram account for links, and more!!

Thu, 29 Jun 2023 - 693 - You Don't Complete Me, I Complete Me (5th Thing)
Today’s quote is from Anne Lemott: “Help is often the sunny side of control.” This led Amy to think of a scene from Jerry Maguire: “help me help you.” Kat reveals that she has never seen Jerry Maguire….what??? Amy gives her homework to watch it with Big P. There’s also a line in the movie that a lot of people found very romantic, but it is actually asking someone else to make you happy and that’s not romantic…it’s unhealthy.
ALSO DISCUSSED:
-How to achieve work/life harmony??
-Questions you can ask yourself to shift perspective for harmony
-Amy & Kat’s favorite songs
-Email from Emily about slow blinking to bond with cats…which led to Kat’s second homework assignment: slow blinking to Big P to see if he responds to it like cats do.HOSTS:

Tue, 27 Jun 2023 - 692 - Little Lizzie: Defining Yourself. Bullying. Teaching Moments. Gratitude.
Motivational speaker & author, Lizzie Velasquez {@littlelizziev}, is on for all 4 things. FIRST THING: Lizzie was born with an extremely rare congenital disease. It prevents her from accumulating body fat and gaining weight. Her parents were told by doctors when Lizzie was born, she wouldn’t be able to do simple things on her own and live a “normal life." There are a lot of things in this world that people allow to define them (job, culture, age, role in life, appearance, etc.)...Lizzie talks about what defines her and how she encourages others to discover their purpose.
SECOND THING: No matter who you are, people will try to create their own labels to put on you. Lizzie shares her experience with this & how she handles bullying...specifically when a photo was being used of her on the TikTok #NewTeacherChallenge. “If you are an adult who has a young human in your life, please do not teach them that being scared of someone who doesn’t look like them is OK." -Lizzie.
THIRD THING: Lizzie is all about using some of the bad things that happen as a “teaching moment." Many people find it difficult to stay in the moment during conflict. Lizzie shares how she stays the course and speaks truth without allowing the lies to creep in about self-worth.
FOURTH THING: Lizzie shares 4 things she is currently thankful for!

Tue, 20 Jun 2023 - 690 - The Best Way to Find Yourself
Do you ever ask yourself: “How can I serve today?” One of the simplest ways to get to your highest self (and out of ego) is to serve others. Leanne Ellington joins Amy for this chat and they each share how they have been selfish in the past (and sometimes still can be!) but they both now very much strive for and strongly align with this affirmation: “I am here to be truly helpful.” The desire to give (and not get) puts us in an awesome energetic state that leaves us feeling more full and in tune with who we truly are!
Amy shares 4 quotes about service that offer solid encouragement as you look for ways to serve others:
- “I start every day by wanting more for others than I do for myself. I think that is how God works, and that is how I think we have to work.” - Wayne Dyer
- “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” - Mahatma Gandhi
- “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” - Muhammad Ali
- “Our prayers for others flow more easily than those for ourselves. This shows we are made to live by charity.” - C. S. Lewis
Also, everyone give Leanne a warm welcome as Amy’s new ‘Outweigh’ podcast co-host! Whoop!!! ‘Outweigh’ is our weekly dose of service…we hope you’ll check out our “Two Things Can Be True” mini series that starts this Saturday!! 4 episodes will be released over the next 4 Saturdays. Then there will be a break with some interviews and then 4 more will start in late July.

Thu, 15 Jun 2023 - 689 - All Relationships, Regardless of Length, Have a Purpose (5th Thing)
Amy hosted an event the other night with Kelsea Ballerini and Kelsie mentioned this quote: “People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.” Amy shared it as the quote for this episode and the main idea behind “reason, season, lifetime” is that all relationships, regardless of their length, have some sort of purpose. Kelsea also has a song about ride or die friendships “If You Go Down (I’m Going Down Too)” so Amy & Kat discussed what they would be willing to do for each other…“Goodbye Earl” style???
ALSO DISCUSSED:
- Amy’s story about a worker at her house that made a murder joke (which led to a note from a listener that works at ADT reminding us you can make temp codes for workers!)
- List of smart tips for living alone, but honestly they are good tips for families to implement too! Example: “Say hello + goodbye out loud when arriving or leaving your house as if you’re talking to a real person. That way people don’t assume you live alone.”
- Email from Tiffany about how we don’t have to allow other people’s perceptions of things to rule our lives.
- Email From Heather about Amy’s psychic cousin’s new podcast: Soul Sessions with Amanda Reiger Green
- Amy told Kat about the ‘Let Them Theory’ that was discussed on last week’s 4 things episodeHOSTS:

Tue, 13 Jun 2023 - 686 - Use This ONE Word for a More Fulfilled Life + Say This ONE Phrase For Emotional Peace + Do This ONE Thing to Spread Joy
How do you feel about your self-awareness? 95% of people think that they’re self-aware, but only 10-15% actually are! Amy shares a simple fix to increase your self-awareness for a more fulfilled life. This "simple fix" is based on research done by Dr. Tasha Eurich and it all boils down to one word. Amy's cousin, Amanda, joins in on this chat and they both share their experience with this one word and how it's impacted the way they look at their lives.
The "Let Them Theory" is so simple, you’re going to start using it right away!! It’s a simple phrase that will give you freedom! When you say "Let Them" - you're giving yourself permission to let others do whatever it is that they want to do. You are free from trying to control them. This phrase creates emotional peace for you and a better relationship with the people in your life. Shout out to Mel Robbins for teaching this to us!
Spreading joy is another thing that can lead to a more fulfilled life. We’ve teamed up with BUILDING HOMES FOR HEROES to help veteran USMC Corporal Aaron Mankin and his 2 children. Our LIMITED EDITION Patriotic PIMPINJOY Line is on sale tomorrow (FRIDAY, June 9th) at BobbyBones.com and TheShopForward.com/pimpinjoy – 10a eastern / 9 ct / 8 mt / 7 pt.
United States Marine Corps Corporal Aaron Mankin enlisted in the military out of his hometown of Rogers, Arkansas in 2003, right at the onset of the war in Iraq. He proudly served his country until he was medically retired in 2008. On May 11, 2005, while deployed near the Syrian border of Iraq, Corporal Mankin’s vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device (IED). Since then, he has undergone 70 surgeries throughout his recovery to better his face, hands, and arms. He sacrificed so much and deserves this new home so much. Thank you for shopping PIMPINJOY if you're able to help...and you will get these items in time for 4th of July!

This chat ended up being a PSA to set up your emergency contacts in your phone ASAP if you haven't already done it. However, you might want to make sure that you select people that will actually respond if an SOS gets sent out. Amy for sure needs to rethink hers...since she basically could have been murdered or kidnapped this weekend...and nobody would have saved her.
