Just moments ago, as the clock was ready to strike midnight, Fani Willis, the District Attorney of Fulton, Co., Georgia, announced that a citizens Grand Jury has voted to indict former president Donald J. Trump and his 18 Co-Conspirators (including Rudy Giuliani, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, lawyer John Eastman and others) on 41 counts of racketeering and other criminal acts for conspiring to form an “organized crime enterprise” which attempted to “illegally overturn the 2020 presidential election” through theft, fraud, forgery, impersonating law enforcement, impersonating electors to the Electoral College, and for conspiring with other top elected Republican officials in six other states, plus Republican leaders in the District of Columbia, to overthrow the election and re-seat Trump in the Oval Office for a 2nd term — even though Trump lost the election by 7 million votes. The prosecutor is charging Trump and his crime group under the RICO statutes that are used to convict and imprison those involved in mob-like crimes. 

The 90-page indictment lists the commission of “161 overt criminal acts” — a breathtaking, comprehensive list of crimes in an enterprise led by Trump (click here to read the actual indictment). The DA spent nearly two years on her extensive investigation. It reads like no stone was left unturned, with a massive amount of evidence obtained by the prosecutors in her office. It also states that there are 30 other “unnamed, unindicted co-conspirators” who may be indicted at a later time. So at least 48 people joined Trump in forming his organized crime family to overthrow our Democracy. Unbelievable. How close did we come to losing this country?

Whether it’s the Planet in collapse or a Party out of control, this is a summer of death and hope. Michael Moore breaks down the failure to protect the people of Maui but also the will of the voters in Ohio to stand up for women’s rights. The official cover-up has already begun in Hawaii as those in charge are unable to explain why over a hundred people (or more) had to die. The overwhelming vote last week to stop the Christian jihad against the majority gender was breathtaking, considering it happened in Ohio of all places. It portends a massive turnout in next year’s presidential election where, if we all do our job and the Democrats show some guts, there won’t be enough bankers boxes left to hide in at Mar-a-Lago.

In the meantime, let’s demand that our elected representatives send help to Maui, and each of us do what we can to contribute to the recovery.

Michael Moore celebrates our country’s birthday week by going after the Supreme Court and suggesting ways to remove the Justices who have perjured themselves, been caught talking huge sums of money from billionaires and how all six right wing Justices have committed various ethical and financial infractions — but have not been sanctioned or removed. Oh, they’ve also taken wholesale rights away from women, the LGBTQ+ community and people of color. Plus, they’ve gutted the EPA, expanded gun “rights,” and killed Biden’s student loan debt relief plan.

The Supreme Court is now the most disliked and distrusted government institution in the land. Michael goes over how their removal of the Roe v Wade decision has the vast majority of the country against them now. And enough of the righties on the court are worried about their “legacy” or their possible removal from the court. The more we organize against them, the better it will get. Time to rock this not-so-supreme boat.

Because Republicans and Trumpsters know they are unable put down their own suicide pills, they soldier on in denying women (the majority gender) their basic reproductive rights — and they continue making it so easy for mass killers to buy as many assault rifles as they want (according to The New Republic, American citizens have now stockpiled 400 million guns in their homes, more than the entire US armed forces, Dept. of Homeland Security, and all local police agencies combined). And women, young adults and people of color, by a large margin, hate the Right for making this happen. On top of all of that, Republicans tried to remove from office two young elected Black Tennessee House members for standing up against this gun violence, thus denying 175,000 Tennesseans their voice in the State Capitol. Millions of young voters have sent their anti-Republican memes and TikToks everywhere and they will determinedly continue their decades-long rejection of this old, stale, rotten Party.

When you’re young, you can only take so much b.s. 

And when you watch a bunch of older white racist Southern men — i.e., the Republican supermajority of the Tennessee House of Representatives — attack two young black elected House members for “improper decorum” when they spoke out against gun violence just two days after the mass school shooting last week in Nashville, well racist acts are nothing new to the state where the KKK was born. 

So last night the Tennessee House Republicans expelled the two young Black Democratic representatives for daring to give voice to those too young to vote — but old enough to be killed at school. 

It was a stunning moment in the fight against those who seek to destroy our Democracy. We are often told that we are led by a “government of the people, by the people, for the people.”

But being a liberal/left/progressive/Democrat in a red state, run by a red legislature intent on banning books, suppressing the vote of its Black and Brown citizens, and stripping women of their right to bodily autonomy, it can feel more like you’re living in a 16th century Christian state or last week in Alabama. And change seems at best improbable, but most often impossible.

Yet, 26 states — including a bunch of red states like Mississippi, Florida, Wyoming and more — offer a clear path for citizens to create change and pass laws themselves, through ballot initiatives. That’s how a red state like Nebraska raised its minimum wage by nearly 70%, how a red state like Montana legalized marijuana, and how Michigan was able to break free from its gerrymandered red chains and turn blue.

In episode 11 of Michael Moore's Rumble miniseries “Blue Dots in a Red Sea,” he encourage those that live in states (or the District of Columbia) that allow citizen-led ballot proposals to use this incredible tool in this 2024 election cycle. And for those that live in states that don’t, to implore their state legislatures — especially in blue states like New York — to change that!

The last three national elections in 2018, 2020 and 2022 saw many liberal/left/progressive Democrats defeat Republicans in red states and counties across America. Every district, every county in the red states has thousands of people who are pro-choice, pro-earth, anti-racist, anti-gerrymandering and believe the way you believe.

If you are forming a new group of like-minded people in your area, make one of your first jobs be candidate recruitment. You must find the right people to run in 2024. Not the same old well-meaning folks who always lose. New blood! Fresh faces! Women, young adults, beloved citizens of your town. Not politician types. Just good people who will listen to voters and work hard to win their votes. Community heroes, progressive preachers, Girl Scout leaders, everyone’s favorite English teacher. When they run as Democrats, especially in red areas, now they often win. The effort to find the right candidates must happen now. Get with your friends and brainstorm a list. The right candidates exist on your street.

On this Rumble episode of Michael Moore's special podcast series, “Blue Dots in a Red Sea,” Mike asks for all of us to attend one or two school board, town council or County Commission meetings this coming year — to be there as a Democratic/Progressive/Left witness to what the elected officials are up to.

In a red, Republican area, they are very used to no one showing up, especially not any liberals or the new Blue group you and your friends are forming. And all you’re doing is just sitting there, quietly observing, taking notes and minding your own business. You will report back to your Blue group via email and social media what happened at the meeting. Maybe nothing happened. That is, until all of a sudden someone on the school board proposed banning a dozen books because they contained “gay characters.” And then that’s your cue to approach the podium during the public comment section, introduce yourself as a representative of the local new Democrats (pause for a second so they can adjust their brains as they’ve never met anybody calling themself a “Democrat” in Red Snake County) and then kindly tell them that your group will not tolerate any kind of bigoted book banning and there will be many more of you at the next meeting.

And that’s how change happens. Simply because you showed up.

Have a safe New Year’s Eve. Say goodbye to 2022 and let’s get ready to rock the casbah in 2023! The Blue Tsunami is just beginning!

Last week Pope Francis visited Canada to apologize and seek forgiveness for the crimes committed by the Catholic Church against the indigenous peoples of Canada. He called that practice of Christianity “evil.”

Long before he first hosted “Late Night with David Letterman,” Michael was a fan of David Letterman's wicked humor that was often based on his total lack of respect for authority, pomposity, and those who make life miserable for the little guy. When it was announced Letterman would have a nightly show on NBC beginning on February 1, 1982, Michael made his way from Flint to New York to see if he could get a stand-by ticket to sit in the audience during Letterman's first week on the air. He succeeded. Letterman's guest that night? Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. Michael couldn’t believe his luck. At that time it would be another seven years before his first film, Roger & Me, would be released. 

In this episode Michael talks about what he learned about satire from David Letterman while sitting and watching him from Flint. And how Letterman impacted Michael (without knowing it) and the film and TV work he would eventually do. Late Wednesday night —at least, late at night here in the states — Russia launched a full-fledged assault on Ukraine. Refugees have fled the country in droves, and Putin’s army has moved in on or around nearly every major city in a matter of 36 hours. It’s a nightmare scenario.

But there are those already beating the drum for the United States to “do more.” More? More of what? No, you don’t want us anywhere near this. The United States, which for the past half-century, has only made things worse every single place we have sent in the bomber jets or the troops who are about to die for all the wrong reasons. We can no longer claim the moral high ground (if we ever could), and after Iraq we’ve been sent to the time-out room to think about the misery we’ve caused this world.

So today on Rumble, Michael sifts through his thoughts on this crisis, and talk about why, above all else, and no matter what — the United States cannot involve itself in this war. Let the smart people find every way possible to crush Putin without firing a shot.

There's a new hit item on the menu at Starbucks stores across the country: a signed union card. The workers at multiple Buffalo, NY-area Starbucks stores formed Starbucks Workers United this August, in response to dangerous COVID working conditions, unequal pay, and inadequate benefits. In less than half a year, they've managed to already unionize two Buffalo-area stores, in Elmwood and in Genesee, at a company notoriously aggressive in their anti-union tactics.

This is huge, a game-changing pair of victories — even in a year full of strikes and COVID walkouts. To hear the story of how these incredible Starbucks Workers United organized this victory, and how you can organize your workplace, Michael talked with the Starbucks workers Jaz Brisack & Casey Moore — or, as the Orwellian Starbucks PR calls them, “partners” — two young women who helped lead the organizing effort and succeeded in slaying the giant.

A year ago tomorrow, outgoing President Donald Trump gave an hour-long speech to a large crowd of his most ardent and agitated supporters, encouraging them to march down Pennsylvania Ave. to the Capitol and demand Congress "Stop the Steal" -- the "steal" in this case being the Congressional ratification of an election he lost fair and square, and an integral part of the peaceful transition of power. What followed was a violent attempted coup of the United States, one in which an essentially all-white mob stormed the Capitol building, threatening the lives of countless workers and staffers in the building, elected representatives from every state in the union, and even the Vice President who ran alongside Trump on his losing ticket.

This grim day of white terror was brought about by months of President Trump egging his supporters on with baseless claims of a fraudulent election, all while his own party worked tirelessly to continue to erode voting rights across the country.  But unfortunately, this trend of white right-wing violence in America far predates Trump.

To try and make sense of all this a year later, Michael spoke with Rep. Dan Kildee of Michigan -- the US Congressional representative for Flint, and Michael's longtime close friend. A year ago, Rep. Kildee talked to Michael on Rumble in the immediate aftermath of the riots, after calling Michael from the Congressional floor during the insurrection -- with gunshots and rioting in the background.

Today, Michael & Rep. Kildee talk about what has changed in the past year, what hasn't, and what we can do to stop this from happening again. They also talk about how this experience has impacted both of them very personally, and unpack how right wing violence and voting rights are inseparable issues.

Today was a chillingly, historically, bad day for women's rights in the United States of America. The right-wing, reactionary Supreme Court heard stunning oral arguments in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, a case intended deal a death blow to Roe v. Wade and make abortion in America essentially illegal. But in listening to the arguments and to the mind-altering questions of the six conservative justices, you can hear far more than the death knell of Roe. After the promise of major legislation that would rival the impact of FDR’s New Deal, Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda has been sucked dry by corporate America and their pawns in the Senate. Instead of massive new programs to help children, parents, students, the elderly and all us by dealing with the climate crisis, Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema appear to have brought the $3.5 trillion bill down to some crumbs. And rather than having it all paid for by taxing the wealthy, they may be putting a halt to that plan, as well.

This is a monumental disaster that will not only hurt the American people, but will once again expose the Democratic party as weak, feckless, and still in the grasp of Wall Street, the pharmaceutical industry and the usual special interests. Turnout for the 2022 midterm elections will be suffocated and the Republican party will feast on the Democrats’ stupidity and ride back into power on it (with Trump waiting in the wings in 2024).

Steven Donziger has spent the last 800 days under house arrest with a government tracking device around his ankle.

His crime?

Well, Donziger is the lawyer who successfully sued the oil giant Chevron on behalf of the people of Ecuador for deliberately discharging 16 billion gallons of toxic waste in the Ecuadorian Amazon between 1964 and 1992. Donziger and his colleagues succeeded and won a $9.5 billion judgment on behalf of the indigenous and poor communities of Ecuador in 2011. Chevron has yet to pay a dime on this judgement and instead, have brought this case to the friendly confines of the United States and turned Donziger, the person who successfully prosecuted them, into the one doing time.

Mike is joined by Steven Donziger, live from his house arrest, to explain the Kafka-esque/Twilight Zone case in which Donziger is serving as the punching bag of corporate America, with the American people footing the bill. They discuss this bizarre and unprecedented case, his condition, and what we all must do to fight back.

Chris Hedges is one of the great journalists, thinkers, war reporters and truth-tellers of our time. He won the Pulitzer Prize for reporting on global terrorism while at the New York Times, who later fired him for speaking out against the Iraq war.

He joins Michael to speak on Afghanistan, the collapse of the American empire, the upcoming 9/11 anniversary, and the end of abortion rights in Texas (and around the U.S.)

Hedges was a war correspondent for many years and has seen awful human degradation, societies in collapse, social bonds being ruptured, and people turning to “self-destructive behavior and magical thinking.” Alarmingly, he sees all of these signals of decay here in America.

Hedges has also studied the Evangelical Christian Right in America and wrote a prescient book in 2008 titled, “American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America.” He details the decades-long battle on women’s reproductive rights, the cynical and dishonest methods used to restrict access to abortion and how this pernicious form of fascism has only grown stronger since that book was published.

However, as a teacher, an ordained Presbyterian minister, and a graduate from Harvard’s Divinity School, Hedges draws on the teachings of great philosophers and theologians to lay out a moral imperative for solidarity and struggle and explains why we must not succumb to despair.

Within days after the U.S. losing its longest-ever war, its new President stepped in, and in less than two weeks, evacuated thousands of Americans to safety — and over 100,000 Afghan refugees. In the face of knowing that ISIS — sworn enemy of both the Taliban and the Pentagon — was planning to disrupt the peaceful evacuation in Kabul, Biden and his team organized hundreds of flights, in and out of Kabul, to Germany, Italy, Spain and four Gulf States. He ordered United, Delta and four other American airlines  to fork over 18 commercial jumbo jets to assist in the evacuation, immediately setting  up refugee housing villages at Ft. Bliss in Texas, and bases in New Jersey, Wisconsin and Virginia. And he oversaw private negotiations with the Taliban to secure as best possible the safety of every single American and Afghan refugee. The result? Not one single American or Afghan, who helped America,  has been killed by the Taliban. Not one plane shot down. And in spite of the ISIS-K suicide bombings, Biden has not flinched, not retreated, not backed down. He has forged ahead with his evacuation plan with the help of the Taliban. *The help of the Taliban!* Biden is a genius to have pulled this off.

After first being drafted in 1923 by two leaders of the women’s suffrage movement and then finally being passed by Congress in 1972, the century-long struggle to have the Equal Rights Amendment ratified and gender-equality enshrined in the U.S. Constitution is finally on the brink of succeeding. That's because in 2020, the state of Virginia became the 38th state to ratify the E.R.A. matching the two-thirds threshold needed to ratify a constitutional amendment. However, an arbitrary 7-year time limit on the 1972 legislation has provided one final hurdle that advocates for women's equality must overcome. Since Michael spoke with Rep. Jackie Speier in February, the House has passed her bill to remove the deadline to ratify the E.R.A. Now, it's in the Senate's hands. Michael is joined by the ground-breaking TV anchor and President of the E.R.A. Coalition Carol Jenkins to discuss the next steps towards achieving gender equality in the U.S. Constitution.
