चढ़दे सूरज ढलदे देखे

बुझदे दीवे बलदे देखे

हीरे दा कोइ मुल ना जाणे

खोटे सिक्के चलदे देखे

जिना दा न जग ते कोई,

ओ वी पुतर पलदे देखे।

उसदी रहमत दे नाल बंदे

पाणी उत्ते चलदे देखे!

लोकी कैंदे दाल नइ गलदी,

मैं ते पथर गलदे देखे।

जिन्हा ने कदर ना कीती रब दी,

हथ खाली ओ मलदे देखे …

कई पैरां तो नंगे फिरदे,

सिर ते लभदे छावां,

मैनु दाता सब कुछ दित्ता,

क्यों ना शुकर मनावां!

Ek nukte vich gal mukdi ae

ਫੜ ਨੁੱਕਤਾ ਛੋੜ ਹਿਸਾਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ, ਕਰ ਦੂਰ ਕੁਫ਼ਰ ਦਿਆਂ ਬਾਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ,

ਲਾਹ ਦੋਜ਼ਖ ਗੋਰ ਅਜ਼ਾਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ, ਕਰ ਸਾਫ ਦਿਲੇ ਦਿਆਂ ਖ਼ਾਬਾਂ ਨੂੰ,

ਗੱਲ ਏਸੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਢੁੱਕਦੀ ਏ, ਇਕ ਨੁੱਕਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੱਲ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਏ ।

Aiven mattha zameen ghasaida,

lamma pa mahiraab dikhaida.

Padh kalma lok hasaida,

dil andar samajh na liaaida.

Kadi baat sacchi vi lukdi eh,

ik nukte vich gal mukdi eh

ਐਵੇਂ ਮੱਥਾ ਜ਼ਮੀਂ ਘਸਾਈਦਾ, ਲੰਮਾ ਪਾ ਮਹਿਰਾਬ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਾ,

ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕਲਮਾ ਲੋਕ ਹਸਾਈ ਦਾ, ਦਿਲ ਅੰਦਰ ਸਮਝ ਨਾ ਲਿਆਈ ਦਾ,

ਕਦੀ ਬਾਤ ਸੱਚੀ ਵੀ ਲੁੱਕਦੀ ਏ ? ਇਕ ਨੁੱਕਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੱਲ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਏ ।

Kaee haaji ban ban aaye ji,

gal neele jaame paaye ji,

Haj baich takey le khaaye ji,

bhala eh gal kinnu bhaaye ji.

Kadey baat sacchi vi lukdi eh,

ik nukte vich gal mukdi eh.

ਕਈ ਹਾਜੀ ਬਣ ਬਣ ਆਏ ਜੀ, ਗਲ ਨੀਲੇ ਜਾਮੇ ਪਾਏ ਜੀ,

ਹੱਜ ਵੇਚ ਟਕੇ ਲੈ ਖਾਏ ਜੀ, ਭਲਾ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਕੀਹਨੂੰ ਭਾਏ ਜੀ,

ਕਦੀ ਬਾਤ ਸੱਚੀ ਭੀ ਲੁੱਕਦੀ ਏ ? ਇਕ ਨੁੱਕਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੱਲ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਏ ।

Ik jangal bahreen jaande ni,

ik daana roz le khaande ni.

Besamajh vajood thakkaande ni,

ghar aavan ho ke maande ni.

Aiven chilleyaan vich jind sukhdi eh,

ik nukte vich gal mukdi eh.

ਇਕ ਜੰਗਲ ਬਹਿਰੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਨੀ, ਇਕ ਦਾਣਾ ਰੋਜ਼ ਲੈ ਖਾਂਦੇ ਨੀ,

ਬੇ ਸਮਝ ਵਜੂਦ ਥਕਾਂਦੇ ਨੀ, ਘਰ ਹੋਵਣ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਮਾਂਦੇ ਨੀ,

ਐਵੇਂ ਚਿੱਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਜਿੰਦ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਏ, ਇਕ ਨੁੱਕਤੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੱਲ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ ਏ ।

Phadd murshad aabad khudai ho,

vich masti beparvaahi ho,

Be khwaahash be navaai ho,

vich dil de khoob safai ho.

Bulla baat sacchi kadon rukdi eh,

ik nukte vich gal mukdi eh.

ਫੜ ਮੁਰਸ਼ਦ ਆਬਦ ਖੁਦਾਈ ਹੋ, ਵਿੱਚ ਮਸਤੀ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਹੋ,

ਬੇਖਾਹਸ਼ ਬੇਨਵਾਈ ਹੋ, ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿਲ ਦੇ ਖੂਬ ਸਫਾਈ ਹੋ,

मैं ख़याल हूँ किसी और का मुझे सोचता कोई और है

सर-ए-आईना मिरा अक्स है पस-ए-आईना कोई और है

मैं किसी के दस्त-ए-तलब में हूँ तो किसी के हर्फ़-ए-दुआ में हूँ

मैं नसीब हूँ किसी और का मुझे माँगता कोई और है

अजब ए'तिबार ओ बे-ए'तिबारी के दरमियान है ज़िंदगी

मैं क़रीब हूँ किसी और के मुझे जानता कोई और है

मिरी रौशनी तिरे ख़द्द-ओ-ख़ाल से मुख़्तलिफ़ तो नहीं मगर

तू क़रीब आ तुझे देख लूँ तू वही है या कोई और है

तुझे दुश्मनों की ख़बर न थी मुझे दोस्तों का पता नहीं

तिरी दास्ताँ कोई और थी मिरा वाक़िआ कोई और है

वही मुंसिफ़ों की रिवायतें वही फ़ैसलों की इबारतें

मिरा जुर्म तो कोई और था प मिरी सज़ा कोई और है

कभी लौट आएँ तो पूछना नहीं देखना उन्हें ग़ौर से

जिन्हें रास्ते में ख़बर हुई कि ये रास्ता कोई और है

जो मिरी रियाज़त-ए-नीम-शब को 'सलीम' सुब्ह न मिल सकी

तो फिर इस के मअ'नी तो ये हुए कि यहाँ ख़ुदा कोई और है

इश्क़ है तो इश्क़ का इज़हार होना चाहिए

आप को चेहरे से भी बीमार होना चाहिए

आप दरिया हैं तो फिर इस वक़्त हम ख़तरे में हैं

आप कश्ती हैं तो हम को पार होना चाहिए

ऐरे-ग़ैरे लोग भी पढ़ने लगे हैं इन दिनों

आप को औरत नहीं अख़बार होना चाहिए

ज़िंदगी तू कब तलक दर-दर फिराएगी हमें

टूटा-फूटा ही सही घर-बार होना चाहिए

अपनी यादों से कहो इक दिन की छुट्टी दे मुझे

इश्क़ के हिस्से में भी इतवार होना चाहिए

इक लफ़्ज़-ए-मोहब्बत का, अदना ये फ़साना है

सिमटे तो दिल-ए-आशिक़, फैले तो ज़माना है

ये किस का तसव्वुर है, ये किस का फ़साना है

जो अश्क है आँखों में, तस्बीह का दाना है

दिल संग-ए-मलामत का, हर-चंद निशाना है

दिल फिर भी मिरा दिल है, दिल ही तो ज़माना है

हम इश्क़ के मारों का, इतना ही फ़साना है

रोने को नहीं कोई, हँसने को ज़माना है

वो और वफ़ा-दुश्मन, मानेंगे न माना है

सब दिल की शरारत है, आँखों का बहाना है

शाइ'र हूँ मैं, शाइ'र हूँ, मेरा ही ज़माना है

फ़ितरत मिरा आईना, क़ुदरत मिरा शाना है

जो उन पे गुज़रती है, किस ने उसे जाना है

ऐ इश्क़ तो क्या ज़ालिम, तेरा ही ज़माना है

या वो थे ख़फ़ा हम से, या हम हैं ख़फ़ा उन से

कल उन का ज़माना था, आज अपना ज़माना है

ऐ इश्क़-ए-जुनूँ-पेशा, हाँ इश्क़-ए-जुनूँ-पेशा

आज एक सितमगर को, हँस हँस के रुलाना है

थोड़ी सी इजाज़त भी, ऐ बज़्म-गह-ए-हस्ती

आ निकले हैं दम-भर को, रोना है रुलाना है

ये इश्क़ नहीं आसाँ, इतना ही समझ लीजे

इक आग का दरिया है, और डूब के जाना है

ख़ुद हुस्न-ओ-शबाब उन का, क्या कम है रक़ीब अपना

जब देखिए अब वो हैं, आईना है शाना है

तस्वीर के दो रुख़ हैं, जाँ और ग़म-ए-जानाँ

इक नक़्श छुपाना है, इक नक़्श दिखाना है

ये हुस्न-ओ-जमाल उन का, ये इश्क़-ओ-शबाब अपना

जीने की तमन्ना है, मरने का ज़माना है

मुझ को इसी धुन में है, हर लहज़ा बसर करना

अब आए वो अब आए, लाज़िम उन्हें आना है

ख़ुद्दारी-ओ-महरूमी, महरूमी-ओ-ख़ुद्दारी

अब दिल को ख़ुदा रक्खे, अब दिल का ज़माना है

अश्कों के तबस्सुम में, आहों के तरन्नुम में

मा'सूम मोहब्बत का, मा'सूम फ़साना है

आँसू तो बहुत से हैं, आँखों में 'जिगर' लेकिन

बंध जाए सो मोती है, रह जाए सो दाना है

रात के बा'द, नए दिन की सहर आएगी

दिन नहीं बदलेगा, तारीख़ बदल जाएगी

हँसते हँसते, कभी थक जाओ, तो छुप के रो लो

ये हँसी भीग के, कुछ और चमक जाएगी

जगमगाती हुई सड़कों पे, अकेले न फिरो

शाम आएगी, किसी मोड़ पे डस जाएगी

और कुछ देर यूँही, जंग, सियासत, मज़हब

और थक जाओ, अभी नींद कहाँ आएगी

मेरी ग़ुर्बत को, शराफ़त का अभी नाम न दे

वक़्त बदला, तो तिरी राय बदल जाएगी

वक़्त नदियों को उछाले, कि उड़ाए पर्बत

उम्र का काम गुज़रना है, गुज़र जाएगी

दाग़ दुनिया ने दिए, ज़ख़्म ज़माने से मिले

हम को तोहफ़े ये, तुम्हें दोस्त बनाने से मिले

हम तरसते ही, तरसते ही, तरसते ही रहे

वो फ़लाने से, फ़लाने से, फ़लाने से मिले

ख़ुद से मिल जाते तो, चाहत का भरम रह जाता

क्या मिले आप, जो लोगों के मिलाने से मिले

माँ की आग़ोश में कल, मौत की आग़ोश में आज

हम को दुनिया में, ये दो वक़्त सुहाने से मिले

कभी लिखवाने गए ख़त, कभी पढ़वाने गए

हम हसीनों से, इसी हीले, बहाने से मिले

इक नया ज़ख़्म मिला, एक नई उम्र मिली

जब किसी शहर में, कुछ यार पुराने से मिले

एक हम ही नहीं फिरते हैं, लिए क़िस्सा-ए-ग़म

उन के ख़ामोश लबों पर भी, फ़साने से मिले

कैसे मानें, कि उन्हें भूल गया तू ऐ 'कैफ़'

कमाल-ए-ज़ब्त को ख़ुद भी तो आज़माऊँगी

मैं अपने हाथ से, उस की दुल्हन सजाऊँगी

सुपुर्द कर के उसे चाँदनी के हाथों में

मैं अपने घर के, अँधेरों को लौट आऊँगी

बदन के कर्ब को वो भी समझ न पाएगा

मैं दिल में रोऊँगी, आँखों में मुस्कुराऊँगी

वो क्या गया कि रिफ़ाक़त के सारे लुत्फ़ गए

मैं किस से रूठ सकूँगी, किसे मनाऊँगी

अब उस का फ़न तो किसी और से हुआ मंसूब

मैं किस की नज़्म, अकेले में गुनगुनाऊँगी

वो एक रिश्ता-ए-बेनाम भी नहीं लेकिन

मैं अब भी, उस के इशारों पे सर झुकाऊँगी

बिछा दिया था गुलाबों के साथ अपना वजूद

वो सो के उट्ठे, तो ख़्वाबों की राख उठाऊँगी

समाअ'तों में घने जंगलों की साँसें हैं

मैं अब कभी, तिरी आवाज़, सुन न पाऊँगी

जवाज़ ढूँड रहा था नई मोहब्बत का

वो कह रहा था, कि मैं, उस को भूल जाऊँगी

हैं कई हिज्र दरमियाँ जानाँ

किस से पूछूँ तिरा निशाँ जानाँ

आलम-ए-बेकरान-ए-रंग है तू

तुझ में ठहरूँ कहाँ कहाँ जानाँ

मैं हवाओं से कैसे पेश आऊँ

यही मौसम है क्या वहाँ जानाँ

रौशनी भर गई निगाहों में

हो गए ख़्वाब बे-अमाँ जानाँ

दर्द-मंदान-ए-कू-ए-दिलदारी

गए ग़ारत जहाँ तहाँ जानाँ

अब भी झीलों में अक्स पड़ते हैं

अब भी नीला है आसमाँ जानाँ

है जो पुर-ख़ूँ तुम्हारा अक्स-ए-ख़याल

ज़ख़्म आए कहाँ कहाँ जानाँ

उस के पहलू से लग के चलते हैं

हम कहीं टालने से टलते हैं

बंद है मय-कदों के दरवाज़े

हम तो बस यूँही चल निकलते हैं

मैं उसी तरह तो बहलता हूँ

और सब जिस तरह बहलते हैं

वो है जान अब हर एक महफ़िल की

हम भी अब घर से कम निकलते हैं

क्या तकल्लुफ़ करें ये कहने में

जो भी ख़ुश है हम उस से जलते हैं

है उसे दूर का सफ़र दर-पेश

हम सँभाले नहीं सँभलते हैं

शाम फ़ुर्क़त की लहलहा उट्ठी

वो हवा है कि ज़ख़्म भरते हैं

है अजब फ़ैसले का सहरा भी

चल न पड़िए तो पाँव जलते हैं

हम जी रहे हैं कोई बहाना किए बग़ैर

उस के बग़ैर उस की तमन्ना किए बग़ैर

अम्बार उस का पर्दा-ए-हुरमत बना मियाँ

दीवार तक नहीं गिरी पर्दा किए बग़ैर

याराँ वो जो है मेरा मसीहा-ए-जान-ओ-दिल

बे-हद अज़ीज़ है मुझे अच्छा किए बग़ैर

मैं बिस्तर-ए-ख़याल पे लेटा हूँ उस के पास

सुब्ह-ए-अज़ल से कोई तक़ाज़ा किए बग़ैर

उस का है जो भी कुछ है मिरा और मैं मगर

वो मुझ को चाहिए कोई सौदा किए बग़ैर

ये ज़िंदगी जो है उसे मअना भी चाहिए

वा'दा हमें क़ुबूल है ईफ़ा किए बग़ैर

ऐ क़ातिलों के शहर बस इतनी ही अर्ज़ है

मैं हूँ न क़त्ल कोई तमाशा किए बग़ैर

मुर्शिद के झूट की तो सज़ा बे-हिसाब है

तुम छोड़ियो न शहर को सहरा किए बग़ैर

उन आँगनों में कितना सुकून ओ सुरूर था

आराइश-ए-नज़र तिरी पर्वा किए बग़ैर

याराँ ख़ुशा ये रोज़ ओ शब-ए-दिल कि अब हमें

सब कुछ है ख़ुश-गवार गवारा किए बग़ैर

गिर्या-कुनाँ की फ़र्द में अपना नहीं है नाम

हम गिर्या-कुन अज़ल के हैं गिर्या किए बग़ैर

आख़िर हैं कौन लोग जो बख़्शे ही जाएँगे

तारीख़ के हराम से तौबा किए बग़ैर

वो सुन्नी बच्चा कौन था जिस की जफ़ा ने 'जौन'

शीआ' बना दिया हमें शीआ' किए बग़ैर

अब तुम कभी न आओगे या'नी कभी कभी

रुख़्सत करो मुझे कोई वा'दा किए बग़ैर

वो तिरी याद थी अब याद आया

आज मुश्किल था सँभलना ऐ दोस्त

तू मुसीबत में अजब याद आया

दिन गुज़ारा था बड़ी मुश्किल से

फिर तिरा वादा-ए-शब याद आया

तेरा भूला हुआ पैमान-ए-वफ़ा

मर रहेंगे अगर अब याद आया

फिर कई लोग नज़र से गुज़रे

फिर कोई शहर-ए-तरब याद आया

हाल-ए-दिल हम भी सुनाते लेकिन

जब वो रुख़्सत हुआ तब याद आया

बैठ कर साया-ए-गुल में 'नासिर'

हम बहुत रोए वो जब याद आया

दिल में इक लहर सी उठी है अभी

कोई ताज़ा हवा चली है अभी

कुछ तो नाज़ुक मिज़ाज हैं हम भी

कोई दीवार सी गिरी है अभी

भरी दुनिया में जी नहीं लगता

जाने किस चीज़ की कमी है अभी

तू शरीक-ए-सुख़न नहीं है तो क्या

हम-सुख़न तेरी ख़ामुशी है अभी

याद के बे-निशाँ जज़ीरों से

तेरी आवाज़ आ रही है अभी

शहर की बे-चराग़ गलियों में

ज़िंदगी तुझ को ढूँडती है अभी

सो गए लोग उस हवेली के

एक खिड़की मगर खुली है अभी

तुम तो यारो अभी से उठ बैठे

रात की सर्द ख़मोशी में हर इक झोंके से

तेरे अन्फ़ास तिरे जिस्म की आँच आती है

मैं सुलगते हुए राज़ों को अयाँ तो कर दूँ

लेकिन उन राज़ों की तशहीर से जी डरता है

रात के ख़्वाब उजाले में बयाँ तो कर दूँ

उन हसीं ख़्वाबों की ताबीर से जी डरता है

तेरी साँसों की थकन तेरी निगाहों का सुकूत

दर-हक़ीक़त कोई रंगीन शरारत ही न हो

मैं जिसे प्यार का अंदाज़ समझ बैठा हूँ

वो तबस्सुम वो तकल्लुम तिरी आदत ही न हो

सोचता हूँ कि तुझे मिल के मैं जिस सोच में हूँ

पहले उस सोच का मक़्सूम समझ लूँ तो कहूँ

मैं तिरे शहर में अंजान हूँ परदेसी हूँ

तेरे अल्ताफ़ का मफ़्हूम समझ लूँ तो कहूँ

कहीं ऐसा न हो पाँव मिरे थर्रा जाएँ

दीन जिन को जिन्हें ईमान बनाए रक्खा

जिन का हर लफ़्ज़ मुझे याद है पानी की तरह

याद थे मुझ को जो पैग़ाम-ए-ज़बानी की तरह

मुझ को प्यारे थे जो अनमोल निशानी की तरह

तू ने दुनिया की निगाहों से जो बच कर लिक्खे

साल-हा-साल मिरे नाम बराबर लिक्खे

कभी दिन में तो कभी रात को उठ कर लिक्खे

तेरे रूमाल तिरे ख़त तिरे छल्ले भी गए

तेरी तस्वीरें तिरे शोख़ लिफ़ाफ़े भी गए

एक युग ख़त्म हुआ युग के फ़साने भी गए

कितना बेचैन उन्हें लेने को गँगा-जल था

जो भी धारा था उन्हीं के लिए वो बेकल था

प्यार अपना भी तो गँगा की तरह निर्मल था

मेरी रुस्वाई में वो भी हैं बराबर के शरीक 

मेरे क़िस्से मिरे यारों को सुनाता क्या है 

पास रह कर भी न पहचान सका तू मुझ को 

दूर से देख के अब हाथ हिलाता क्या है 

ज़ेहन के पर्दों पे मंज़िल के हयूले न बना 

ग़ौर से देखता जा राह में आता क्या है 

ज़ख़्म-ए-दिल जुर्म नहीं तोड़ भी दे मोहर-ए-सुकूत 

जो तुझे जानते हैं उन से छुपाता क्या है 

सफ़र-ए-शौक़ में क्यूँ काँपते हैं पाँव तिरे

aaqilon ko be-gham-e-uqba maza milta nahin

kashti-e-dil ki ilahi bahr-e-hasti mein ho KHair

naKHuda milte hain lekin ba-KHuda milta nahin

ख़ुदा-ए-बर्तर तिरी ज़मीं पर ज़मीं की ख़ातिर ये जंग क्यूँ है

हर एक फ़त्ह-ओ-ज़फ़र के दामन पे ख़ून-ए-इंसान का रंग क्यूँ है

ज़मीं भी तेरी है हम भी तेरे ये मिलकियत का सवाल क्या है

ये क़त्ल-ओ-ख़ूँ का रिवाज क्यूँ है ये रस्म-ए-जंग-ओ-जिदाल क्या है

जिन्हें तलब है जहान भर की उन्हीं का दिल इतना तंग क्यूँ है

ख़ुदा-ए-बर्तर तेरी ज़मीं पर ज़मीं की ख़ातिर ये जंग क्यूँ है

ग़रीब माओं शरीफ़ बहनों को अम्न-ओ-इज़्ज़त की ज़िंदगी दे

जिन्हें अता की है तू ने ताक़त उन्हें हिदायत की रौशनी दे

सुरों में किब्र-ओ-ग़ुरूर क्यूँ है दिलों के शीशे ये रंग क्यूँ है

ख़ुदा-ए-बर्तर तिरी ज़मीं पर ज़मीं की ख़ातिर ये जंग क्यूँ है

बस यही दो मसले, जिंदगी भर ना हल हुए!!!

ना नींद पूरी हुई, ना ख्वाब मुकम्मल हुए!!!

चलो इक बार फिर से अजनबी बन जाएँ हम दोनों
न मैं तुम से कोई उम्मीद रखूँ दिल-नवाज़ी की
न तुम मेरी तरफ़ देखो ग़लत-अंदाज़ नज़रों से
न मेरे दिल की धड़कन लड़खड़ाए मेरी बातों से
न ज़ाहिर हो तुम्हारी कश्मकश का राज़ नज़रों से

तुम्हें भी कोई उलझन रोकती है पेश-क़दमी से
मुझे भी लोग कहते हैं कि ये जल्वे पराए हैं
मेरे हमराह भी रुस्वाइयाँ हैं मेरे माज़ी की
तुम्हारे साथ भी गुज़री हुई रातों के साए हैं

सफ़र में धूप तो होगी जो चल सको तो चलो 
सभी हैं भीड़ में तुम भी निकल सको तो चलो 

किसी के वास्ते राहें कहां बदलती हैं 
तुम अपने आप को ख़ुद ही बदल सको तो चलो 

यहां किसी को कोई रास्ता नहीं देता 
मुझे गिरा के अगर तुम संभल सको तो चलो 

कहीं नहीं कोई सूरज धुआं धुआं है फ़ज़ा 
ख़ुद अपने आप से बाहर निकल सको तो चलो 

यही है ज़िंदगी कुछ ख़्वाब चंद उम्मीदें 
इन्हीं खिलौनों से तुम भी बहल सको तो चलो

nasl-e-adam ka khoon hai aakhir;

jang mashriq mein ho ya maghrib mein,

aman-e-alam ka khoon hai aakhir.

jang to khud hi ek maslaa hai,

jang kyaa maslon ka hal degi;

aag aur khoon aaj bakhshegi,

bhookh aur ehtiyaaj kal degi.

(masla : problem, ehtiyaaj : needs)

bartaree ke saboot ki khatir,

khoon bahana hi kya zaroori hai?

ghar ki tareeqiyan mitane ko,

ghar jalana hi kya zaroori hai?

(bartaree : greatness)

Bomb gharon par giren ke sarhad par,

Rooh-e-taameer zakhm khati hai;

Khet apne jalein ke auron ke,

Zeest faaqon mein tilmilati hai.

(Rooh-e-taameer : spirit of construction, Zeest : Life,Faaqon mein tilmilati hai : wrecked by starvation)

Tank aage badhen ke peeche haten,

Kokh dharti ki baanjh hoti hai;

Fateh ka jashn ho ke haar ka sog,

Zindagi mayyaton pe roti hai.

(Kokh : womb, baanj : barren, Fateh : victory, Jashn : celebration,Sog : lament, Mayyaton : corpses)

Isliye ae shareef insaano,

jang taltee rahe to behtar hai;

aap aur ham sabhi ke aangan mein,

shama jalti rahe to behtar hai.

हम बहुत दूर निकल आए हैं चलते चलते
अब ठहर जाएँ कहीं शाम के ढलते ढलते

अब ग़म-ए-ज़ीस्त से घबरा के कहाँ जाएँगे
उम्र गुज़री है इसी आग में जलते जलते

रात के बाद सहर होगी मगर किस के लिए
हम ही शायद न रहें रात के ढलते ढलते

रौशनी कम थी मगर इतना अँधेरा तो न था
शम्मा-ए-उम्मीद भी गुल हो गई जलते जलते

आप वादे से मुकर जाएँगे रफ़्ता रफ़्ता
ज़ेहन से बात उतर जाती है टलते टलते

टूटी दीवार का साया भी बहुत होता है
पाँव जल जाएँ अगर धूप में चलते चलते

दिन अभी बाक़ी है 'इक़बाल' ज़रा तेज़ चलो
कुछ न सूझेगा तुम्हें शाम के ढलते ढलते
