    The Adventures of Sam Spade presents “The Death Bed Caper,” originally broadcast on CBS on June 20, 1948. Also known as “The Caper with Two Death Beds,” this is episode 104 of the series, starring Howard Duff as hard-boiled private detective Sam Spade and Lurene Tuttle as Effie Perrine.

    Spade is called in when Dan Starbuck asks him to witness a statement from his dying brother, Gordon, following a violent quarrel. But the final confession only deepens the mystery, sending Spade into a dangerous tangle of conflicting stories, hidden motives, and waterfront intrigue along San Francisco’s docks.

    During a December holiday season on Broadway, former insurance investigator Ben Justin is found gravely wounded in a dark alley. As Clover and Tartaglia follow the threads of Justin’s unfinished business, an apparently straightforward shooting becomes a tense Manhattan homicide investigation.
