In my years of closely following Middle Eastern developments, I've witnessed an unprecedented shift in the landscape of news coverage. Traditional corporate media, historically criticized for its lack of transparency in reporting on US foreign policy, is now producing remarkably truthful and objective segments on Israeli Apartheid. This departure from the norm is significant, considering the media's historical alignment with the US State Department.
The emergence of independent news sources and the role of social media platforms in connecting people worldwide have played a crucial role. This connectivity has made it increasingly challenging for traditional media outlets to perpetuate uninformed narratives and avoid accountability for disseminating mass misinformation, particularly when it comes to issues involving the US government. The global discourse on Israeli Apartheid is being reshaped by these alternative sources, fostering a more informed and engaged public.

by Scotty T. Reid, BTRN -The sweltering heat of summer highlights the growing issue of lack of proper air conditioning in prisons, and North Carolina is a prime example, though this problem is not unique to the state. Around a third of the 31,000 inmates in North Carolina do not have air-conditioned cells, leaving them exposed to health risks and discomfort.
Cierra Cobb, an advocate with Emancipate NC, commented on the unbearable conditions, "It’s just cooking people alive." This perspective shines a light on the urgency for better living conditions for prisoners, especially as the proportion of elderly inmates rises. As of 2019, 14% of North Carolina's prison population was aged 55 or older, a stark increase from the 3% in 2000. The elderly are more susceptible to heat-related health complications, making this an even more pressing concern.
Although the Department of Adult Correction in North Carolina has initiated a multi-year project to air condition all its prisons, backed by a $30 million legislative grant, progress is lagging. Many facilities are outdated, with some built as early as the 1930s. These structures need significant renovations before the installation of modern air conditioning units, delaying the process.
The state is not alone in facing these challenges. Aging infrastructures in prisons across the country require significant investment and overhaul to ensure humane living conditions for inmates.
While North Carolina's prison department has completed air conditioning projects for some units and prioritized others, a definitive plan remains uncertain. John Bull, a representative from the prison system, acknowledged the complexity of these HVAC installations in older structures.
Incarcerated individuals often face the dilemma of choosing between an air-conditioned cell or a sweltering common area, leading to tensions among inmates. Cierra Cobb's personal account highlighted the distress, noting that even though parts of some prisons, like the Warren Correctional Institution, are air-conditioned, inmates might not spend most of their time there.
The scale of the challenge is evident from the Department of Adult Correction's data:
* 31,029 inmates in North Carolina prisons as of Aug. 11
* 15,211 prison beds lack air conditioning, with ongoing projects aiming to cover 2,900 beds
* $30 million set aside for air conditioning installation in 40 prisons by 2026
* 22 prisons already have 100% air-conditioned spaces for inmates, but 10 other prisons have less than 20% air-conditioned sleeping areas
Prison systems across various states must address this issue, ensuring that all inmates, regardless of their age or health status, are provided with humane living conditions, even during the hottest months.
For readers concerned about the lack of humane conditions in prisons, there are several actions they can take to advocate for better treatment of inmates:
* Stay Informed: Continuously educate yourself about the state of prisons both locally and nationally. Understand the nuances of the prison system and the challenges faced by inmates.
* Raise Awareness: Share articles like this one, along with personal reactions, on social media platforms, blogs, or community forums to raise awareness about the issue.
* Engage with Organizations: Join or donate to advocacy groups like Emancipate NC, and Prison Policy Initiative that work towards improving conditions for prisoners.Mon, 14 Aug 2023 - 9min - 1212 - Global Outcry Against Prevalent Racism: UK Shop Pulls Controversial Plantation Image
by Scotty T. Reid, BTRN - A store in Surrey, which recently faced backlash for perpetuating racial stereotypes with a poster of "subjugated black workers" on a tobacco plantation, has now removed the controversial image.
On Tuesday, a video circulated on social media where Misan Harriman called out the offensive imagery displayed behind the counter at Farrants in Cobham, Surrey. He labeled it as a stark reminder of pervasive racism not just locally but on a global scale. "There's absolutely no justification for such a triggering and racially insensitive image," Harriman emphasized.
Acknowledging its mistake, the shop has expressed regret and formally apologized.
Apart from a diverse product range including confectionery, greeting cards, and toys, Farrants also boasts a specialized tobacco section. The contentious image depicted black individuals laboring on a tobacco plantation, seemingly under the watch of white supervisors. This image, the store clarified, was from the Pinar del Rio plantation in Cuba, captured in 1907 – a good two decades past the nation's abolition of slavery.
Despite a poster beside the image attempting to rationalize its display, Harriman, a renowned photographer and chairperson of London's Southbank Centre, asserted that the depiction's context – whether showcasing indentured laborers or victims of slavery – was inconsequential. "Such racially charged imagery, especially in a family-centric store, is both deeply triggering and undeniably racist," Harriman articulated.
Reiterating their regret on Instagram, Farrants announced, "The contentious image has been taken down. We deeply apologize for the distress and hurt it inadvertently caused."
Earlier, the store had put up a statement alongside the image, claiming its intent was to "commend and honor" the individuals instrumental in the evolution of Havana cigars.
On this issue, Surrey Police clarified that, although no formal complaints had been lodged, they had reached out to discuss the situation with the shop's proprietor.

Sat, 12 Aug 2023 - 6min - 1211 - Georgia Prosecutors Link Trump’s Team to Voting System Breach
by Scotty T. Reid, BTRN - According to CNN, prosecutors in the Atlanta area possess text messages and emails linking members of former President Donald Trump’s legal team to the January 2021 breach of the voting system in Coffee County. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is preparing to present charges against over a dozen individuals to a grand jury, and several of them are connected to this voting system breach.
Sources claim that this breach was not merely the act of fervent Trump supporters in Coffee County, where Trump secured nearly 70% of the vote. Instead, evidence suggests it was orchestrated by Trump’s team attempting to access sensitive voting software.
Furthermore, the breach in Coffee County is a significant area of investigation for Willis. Evidence shows Trump’s lawyers, with their operatives, aimed to access the voting systems before January 6, 2021, searching for widespread fraud evidence to challenge Joe Biden’s victory.
A former Trump official disclosed to the House January 6 select committee about White House meetings discussing plans to access Georgia's voting systems. Notably, an Oval Office meeting on December 18, 2020, that included Trump.
Texts obtained by CNN revealed that, just days before the breach, attorney Katherine Friess, working alongside Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, shared a “written invitation” to scrutinize Coffee County’s voting systems. This invitation was shared with Sullivan Strickler, a firm hired by Trump’s legal team.
Evidence hints at Giuliani’s involvement in the Coffee County breach, though his attorney, Robert Costello, denies these allegations. Notably, Giuliani was discussed as "the Mayor" in communications between Trump-aligned individuals and operatives.
Concerning Coffee County, after Election Day, the top election official, Misty Hampton, claimed that Dominion voting machines could be manipulated, an assertion that has been debunked. Hampton later stalled the certification of Biden's win in Georgia and released a video asserting issues with Dominion's system. This video was used by Trump’s attorneys, including Giuliani, to bolster their claims of voting system anomalies.
Lastly, CNN reports that Coffee County was mentioned in draft executive orders about confiscating voting machines discussed in a December 2020 Oval Office meeting. Giuliani had hinted at a plan to gain “voluntary access” to machines in Georgia during the same meeting.Sun, 13 Aug 2023 - 5min - 1210 - Lawsuit Challenges Alleged Racial Gerrymandering in Tennessee’s Congressional Redistricting
by Scotty T. Reid, BTRN - A collective of Tennessee voters, led by former state Senator Brenda Gilmore, has initiated legal proceedings on Wednesday contesting the newly proposed congressional district maps in the state. The lawsuit claims that the redistricting carried out in early 2022 is deliberately discriminatory towards Black voters and undermines the influence of communities of color in the electoral process.
The lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in Nashville, specifically highlights the efforts of the Republican supermajority to fragment Davidson County into three separate congressional districts and the division of state Senate District 31 in Shelby County.
This legal action in Tennessee follows closely after a situation in Alabama, where the Republican-controlled legislature rejected requests, and as critics assert, a decision by the Supreme Court, to create an additional congressional district with a majority Black population. Instead, the redistricting was orchestrated to maintain favor for their own political party. Across the nation, gerrymandering and the dilution of the Black vote have emerged as pivotal strategies for the Republican party.
The lawsuit contends that the recently devised maps in Tennessee constitute unconstitutional racial gerrymandering. This is attributed to the division of a predominantly Black, urban voting populace centered in Davidson County. The division redistributes this population into three predominantly white, rural districts, each with distinct "social, cultural, policy, and community-oriented concerns."
Brenda Gilmore expressed her concerns during an online press conference, stating, "This redistricting plan ripped neighborhoods like mine apart. The legislature did it for the sole purpose of preventing us from coming together to elect candidates who we choose."
Gloria Sweet-Love, the president of the Tennessee State Conference of the NAACP, remarked, "Tennessee’s redistricting plan greatly harms African-American voters... The plan uses a perverse approach to gerrymandering, seemingly motivated by race, that undermines the equal protection of African-Americans and dilutes the African-American vote. There is no constitutional justification for supporting the state legislature’s senate and congressional redistricting plan. Allowing these plans to survive will establish a dangerous precedent."
A coalition of civil rights groups, including the League of Women Voters of Tennessee, Equity Alliance, African American Clergy Collective of Tennessee, and Memphis A. Philip Randolph Institute, have united in support of the lawsuit against the state.
The legal representation for the plaintiffs includes Nashville attorney Philip F. Cramer, alongside the Southern Coalition for Social Justice based in Durham, North Carolina, and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law located in Washington.
The transformation of Davidson County from a single, predominantly Democratic congressional district to three GOP-dominated districts is a significant shift. In the November elections, U.S. Representative Andy Ogles, R-Columbia, secured the 5th Congressional District seat, altering the district's political affiliation and granting Republicans an 8-1 advantage in the state's congressional delegation.
The assertions presented in this lawsuit echo those made in another legal case filed in Davidson County court in February. The earlier lawsuit went to trial earlier in the year, though a verdict is still pending. In that instance, three private citizens, the plaintiffs, deemed the redrawing of state House and Senate maps as gerrymandered and "facially unconstitutional."
The plaintiffs accused the Republicans of excessively di...Sat, 12 Aug 2023 - 6min - 1209 - Disparities in Healthcare: The Heartbreaking Case of a Black Child’s Death in Atlanta Hospital
by Scotty T. Reid, BTRN - In a harrowing incident from a metro Atlanta hospital, a newborn, Treveon Isaiah Taylor, Jr., was allegedly decapitated during childbirth. The hospital maintains that the child died in utero before the delivery and was decapitated postmortem. Yet, this tragic event underscores the broader, deeply concerning issues that African American women face in the U.S. healthcare system, particularly during childbirth.
20-year-old Jessica Ross went into labor at Southern Regional Medical Center. A lawsuit from the family states that the baby became trapped during Ross's labor and, in a disturbing turn of events, was decapitated when Dr. Tracey St. Julian attempted to assist the birth.
This tragedy isn't isolated but rather a symptom of the dire health disparities Black women face in America. According to numerous studies, Black women are disproportionately affected by complications during childbirth. The reasons are multifaceted – including systemic racism, limited access to quality care, and biases within the medical community.
The lawsuit accuses Dr. St. Julian, her OBGYN practice, the hospital, and the medical personnel involved of medical negligence and the wrongful death of the baby. It also alleges an attempted cover-up regarding the decapitation.
While Southern Regional Medical Center asserts that the infant's death occurred in utero, they deny employing Dr. St. Julian. The Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office, on the other hand, contradicts the hospital's statement, claiming they were alerted of the decapitation by a funeral home, rather than the hospital, as mandated by state law.
Director Brian Byars, of the Clayton County M.E.’s office, labeled the case as one of the most disturbing his seasoned investigators had ever faced. "It's tough for the police department to see these images," he commented, emphasizing the shock of the situation.
Ross's tragic experience is another reminder of the disparities faced by African American mothers. Recent data shows that Black women in the U.S. are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women. Conditions like "shoulder dystocia," which the baby suffered from, require prompt medical response and experience, emphasizing the need for equitable care and diligence in maternity wards.
The lawsuit asserts a delay in emergency obstetrical protocols post-recognition of shoulder dystocia. Just an hour before the baby's C-section delivery, fetal heart tones ceased. The family claims that there was a conscious attempt to hide the tragedy by dissuading them from an autopsy and misleading representations of the child's condition.
Dr. Roderick Edmond, the family's attorney, expressed the hospital's alleged efforts to obfuscate: “When they wrapped the baby, they made it appear as if the head was attached.”
The Clayton M.E.’s office has urged both the Georgia Composite Medical Board and the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office Board of Nursing to investigate the roles of the involved doctors and nursing staff. State records show Dr. St. Julian has been practicing since 2004 without any disciplinary actions.
If charged, Dr. St. Julian and the involved staff could face severe consequences, including failure to report a death, concealing a death, and involuntary manslaughter.
In the end, this horrifying incident highlights the pressing need to address the systemic health disparities Black women endure, ensuring that they receive the same level of care and attention as any other patient. The fight for equity in healthcare is far from over.Fri, 11 Aug 2023 - 4min - 1208 - Vision for a Libertarian North Carolina: BTR News w/ Scotty T Reid Interviews Gubernatorial Candidate Mike Ross

Tue, 01 Aug 2023 - 1h 53min - 1205 - The United States Would Not Exist Today Without African Americans, Free & Enslaved
By Scotty T. Reid, BTRN - African Americans played a crucial role in the Union's victory over the Confederacy during the American Civil War. Still, European descendant people like Donald Trump and, Ron Desantis, both of whom are descended from immigrants arriving after the American Civil War, have both honored and celebrated the Confederacy's attempt to destroy the United States to preserve slavery. While people of African descent initially faced discrimination and were not allowed to serve in the Union Army, as the war progressed, the need for more troops led to the acceptance of African American soldiers who would fight for the cause of abolishing slavery in many ways.
For these proud soldiers, it was never about keeping the Union together as was Lincoln's initial goal, and abolishing slavery was only secondary when it was clear it would help the Union Army recruitment. African American soldiers, known then as the United States Colored Troops (USCT), served with distinction and valor, proving their bravery and dedication to the cause once it became about abolishing the enslavement of African descendant persons in the United States. Their contributions in battles like the Battle of Fort Wagner and the Battle of the Crater showcased their military prowess which would be duplicated in all the wars and military conflicts the United States would entangle itself in over the next 150 years.
Moreover, during the American Civil War, African Americans also played essential roles in providing crucial support as laborers, nurses, spies, and soldiers. Their participation in the war effort further highlighted the injustice of slavery and helped build momentum for the abolitionist cause.
The federal government's allowance of African Americans, free or enslaved, to enlist as combat soldiers and otherwise lend assistance, was to officially recognize their importance in the Union's fight with the Confederates in preserving the nation.
Overall, African Americans' well-documented contributions were so vital to the Union's ultimate victory over the Confederacy that we should keep in mind if not for them there would no longer be a United States of America, and instead, a Confederate States of America would exist in its place. The racial terrorist organization the Klu Klux Klan would be founded by ex-Confederate officers and soldiers after the Civil War who were hell-bent on preying upon vulnerable African Americans, former victims of slavery, to exact revenge on them for their losses during the war.
Unfortunately, these former Confederate white supremacist ideology would greatly influence politics, and politicians would implement discriminatory laws at all levels of government whether local municipalities, state legislatures, and governors all working in tandem to deprive African Americans, saviors of the Union, of their civil rights after a failed attempt at Reconstruction in the South. It was President Grant who would implement federal policies to combat this widespread racism and he was successful in destroying the Klan but sadly, subsequent presidents would allow and even support the resurrection of the terrorist organization.
Individuals today in the South and scattered elsewhere about the nation but seeming concentrated in the Republican Party, can’t seem to get over the outcome of the war. Many of the modern neo-confederates' ancestors or family lineage only began well after the civil war in wave after wave of European immigrants over the decades that would follow so it stands to reason that practicing white supremacy against non-white people is what attracts them to Confederate Lost Cause, mythology Take the two top presumed contenders for the GOP nomination for President, Donald Trump and Ron Desantis both of whom have promoted or passed legislation or used regulatory powers that are widely considered anti-black, anti-African American,Mon, 31 Jul 2023 - 13min - 1204 - The Strange Case of Carlee Russell: Why Do People Fake Kidnappings And What Consequences Might She Face?
By Scotty T Reid, BTRN - The story of the missing young woman Carlee Russell has taken a turn as it increasingly looks like she faked her kidnapping to gain the attention of a lover. What psychological issues may underlie why a person would fake their disappearance? Carlee Russell's case has left investigators puzzled as they uncover more information that suggests her alleged kidnapping may have been a ploy to capture the attention of her lover. This revelation raises questions about the underlying psychological issues that can drive someone to stage their own disappearance.
One possible motive for Carlee Russell's actions is the fear of being rejected by her lover. The reports suggesting that she orchestrated the hoax because she believed her partner was planning to leave her for another woman highlight the extent to which individuals may go to maintain a relationship. In this case, Carlee may have resorted to extreme measures, such as faking a kidnapping, in an attempt to keep her lover interested and prevent him from leaving her.
Psychologically, individuals who engage in such behaviors may be experiencing deep-seated insecurities and fear of abandonment. This fear can lead them to resort to manipulative tactics, such as gaslighting, which involves distorting the truth to make the victim doubt their own perceptions and experiences. By faking her kidnapping, Carlee may have been seeking to create a sense of urgency and dependence from her lover, in an effort to make him feel responsible for her safety and well-being. This manipulation tactic could potentially make him feel guilty for considering leaving her.
What Are The Symptoms of Avoidant Personality Disorder
If reports about her lover possibly leaving her for another woman is true, it is possible that the strained relationship could have caused Carlee Russell to develop Avoidant Personality Disorder. Avoidant Personality Disorder is a mental health condition characterized by feelings of inadequacy, extreme sensitivity to criticism, and a strong desire to avoid social interaction. Individuals with this disorder often struggle with forming and maintaining relationships, as they fear rejection and judgment from others.
The fear of abandonment and rejection is a common theme in Avoidant Personality Disorder. In Carlee Russell's case, the possibility of her lover leaving her for another woman could have triggered intense feelings of anxiety and insecurity. These feelings may have intensified her fear of rejection and fueled her worries about not being good enough for her partner.
People with Avoidant Personality Disorder often go to great lengths to avoid situations that may expose them to criticism or rejection. They may isolate themselves, avoid social events, and have difficulties expressing themselves in intimate relationships. Carlee Russell's alleged hoax may have been an extreme manifestation of this avoidance behavior. By creating a false narrative, she may have believed that she could control the situation and prevent her partner from leaving her.
The symptoms of Avoidant Personality Disorder can vary in severity. Some common signs include excessive self-consciousness.
Historical Cases of People Faking Their Own Kidnappings
Fake kidnappings are nothing new. People have faked kidnappings that have drawn a lot of media attention and captured the interest of the public. Throughout history, there have been numerous instances where individuals have orchestrated their own abductions, leading to widespread panic and concern. These cases of fake kidnappings not only highlight the lengths some individuals are willing to go to attract attention or manipulate others but also shed light on the intricate web of deceit that can be woven in such situations.
One of the most famous cases of a fake kidnapping in the United States occu...Thu, 20 Jul 2023 - 5min - 1203 - The Ethical Implications of AI Writing Tools: Exploring the Benefits and Concerns
By Scotty T. Reid, BTRN - AI writing tools have become increasingly popular in various industries, promising to revolutionize the way we create content. These tools offer numerous benefits, such as improved efficiency and productivity, enhanced creativity and innovation, and bridging the language barrier. However, there are also ethical implications associated with the use of these tools. This essay will explore the benefits of AI writing tools, followed by a discussion of the concerns surrounding their use.
One of the key benefits of AI writing tools is the improvement in efficiency and productivity. These tools can automate repetitive tasks, such as proofreading and grammar checks, allowing writers to focus on more complex aspects of their work. Additionally, AI writing tools can generate content quickly, saving valuable time for writers and editors. For instance, Grammarly, a popular AI writing tool, can provide real-time suggestions for grammatical errors and offer alternative word choices. This not only improves the quality of the content but also reduces the time spent on proofreading.
AI writing tools also have the potential to enhance creativity and innovation. They can provide new perspectives and ideas that may not have been considered by human writers. For example, tools like Articoolo can generate unique articles based on a given topic, providing fresh insights and angles. Additionally, AI writing tools can generate content in different styles and tones, helping writers experiment with different writing styles. This can be particularly useful for content creators who need to adapt their writing to suit different audiences and platforms.
Furthermore, AI writing tools can help bridge the language barrier, making communication between different language speakers more accessible. These tools can facilitate language translation, allowing for seamless communication and collaboration across borders. For instance, Google Translate utilizes AI algorithms to provide instant translations in multiple languages. AI writing tools can also assist in language learning and teaching, providing feedback and suggestions to learners. This not only enhances the learning experience but also promotes cultural exchange.
The flip side of the perceived benefits of these AI ghostwriters.
Despite the benefits, there are concerns that AI writing tools may lead to job displacement. As these tools become more advanced, there is a possibility that they could replace human writers and editors. This could result in financial instability and unemployment for those in the writing industry. Furthermore, human creativity and intuition cannot be replicated by AI, and there is a risk that content generated by AI writing tools may lack the depth and authenticity that comes from genuine human experiences.
Another concern surrounding AI writing tools is the compromise of authenticity and originality. AI tools may generate content that lacks genuine human emotions and experiences, leading to a loss of connection with the audience. Furthermore, there is a higher risk of plagiarism and copyright infringement with AI writing tools. Since these tools rely on existing data, there is a possibility that they may inadvertently reproduce content that has already been created. This raises ethical questions regarding the ownership and originality of the generated content.
Additionally, AI writing tools raise ethical concerns about privacy and data security. These tools may collect and store personal information without the consent of the users. This raises questions about the ownership and control of the data generated by these tools. Furthermore, AI writing tools can be vulnerable to hacking and misuse of data, exposing users to potential risks. by Scotty T Reid, BTRN
The Willie Lynch Letter is a controversial document that has sparked much debate and discussion in African American history. This essay will examine the arguments surrounding the authenticity and impact of the letter. While some argue that the letter is a fictional creation with no historical evidence to support its existence, others believe that it serves as a cautionary tale, reflecting the psychological tactics used by slave owners. Additionally, the letter has been criticized for perpetuating harmful stereotypes about African Americans. However, it can also spark important discussions about racism and classism. By critically analyzing these arguments and counter-arguments, we can gain a deeper understanding of the Willie Lynch Letter and its place in African American history.
The Willie Lynch Letter is often dismissed as a fictional document due to the lack of historical evidence supporting its existence prior to 1970. Researchers have been unable to find any references to the letter in historical records or archives. This raises doubts about the authenticity of the document and its claims. Additionally, the language and style of the letter do not match the time period it claims to be from. The content of the letter is highly exaggerated and sensationalized, presenting a distorted view of slavery and its effects on African Americans.
Another argument against the authenticity of the Willie Lynch Letter is its perpetuation of harmful stereotypes. The letter portrays African Americans as inherently violent and unintelligent, reinforcing the idea of white superiority and black inferiority. By presenting African Americans as passive victims of their circumstances, the letter ignores the resilience and achievements of African Americans throughout history. This perpetuation of stereotypes can have long-lasting negative effects on the perception and treatment of African Americans.
However, despite the lack of historical evidence, the Willie Lynch Letter can still serve as a cautionary tale. Even if the letter is fictional, it highlights the brutality and dehumanization of slavery. It reminds us of the importance of acknowledging and learning from historical injustices. By studying the tactics described in the letter, we can gain insight into the methods of control and division that were likely employed by slave owners. This understanding can help us to comprehend the long-lasting effects of slavery on African American communities.
Furthermore, the Willie Lynch Letter can spark important discussions about racism and classism. The letter can be used as a starting point for conversations about systemic racism and the ways in which it continues to impact society today. By analyzing the tactics described in the letter, individuals can engage in critical thinking and challenge societal norms and prejudices. This can lead to greater awareness and understanding of the historical context in which racism and discrimination persist.
Additionally, the Willie Lynch Letter can be viewed as a tool for education and promoting empathy. By studying the letter, individuals can develop a deeper understanding of the psychological tactics used by slave owners and the lasting effects of slavery. This knowledge can help to foster empathy and compassion towards the experiences of African Americans. It can also encourage individuals to reflect on their own biases and prejudices, leading to personal growth and a more inclusive society.
In conclusion, the Willie Lynch Letter is a controversial document that has been the subject of much debate in African American history. While there is no historical evidence to support its authenticity, the letter can still serve as a cautionary tale and spark important discussions about racism and classism. However, it is important to critically analyze the letter and its impact,Wed, 19 Jul 2023 - 4min - 1201 - Archibald Grimké: A Trailblazer in the Fight Against Slavery and Racism
by Scotty T Reid, BTRN
Archibald Grimké was a remarkable individual who played a pivotal role in the fight against slavery and racism in the United States during his lifetime. As one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Grimké's contributions to the civil rights movement are still celebrated today. This essay explores Grimké's early life and upbringing, his activism against slavery, and his enduring contributions to the fight against racism.
Archibald Henry Grimké was born a victim of slavery on August 17, 1849, on his white father's plantation near Charleston, South Carolina. His mother, Nancy Weston, was also enslaved by his father and had been born a victim of slavery herself. Despite being born into a system that sought to oppress and dehumanize him, Grimké's early life was marked by a strong desire for knowledge and freedom. He was fortunate enough to receive an education from his father the slaver, who recognized the importance of education in empowering his enslaved son, which was not normal for slavers to do in the American South. Grimké's thirst for knowledge led him to pursue higher education at Lincoln University, where he excelled academically and developed a deep understanding of the injustices faced by African Americans in the United States.
Drawing inspiration from his aunt, Angelina Grimké, a white woman and outspoken slavery abolitionist, Archibald Grimké became deeply committed to the fight against slavery. Angelina Grimké's essay, "An Appeal to the Christian Women of the South," greatly influenced Archibald's beliefs and catalyzed his anti-slavery activism. He dedicated his life to advocating for the abolition of slavery and the equality of all individuals, regardless of race. As an African American lawyer, intellectual, journalist, diplomat, and community leader, Grimké used his platform to shed light on the atrocities of slavery and to call for its immediate abolition. His powerful speeches and writings resonated with many, inspiring others to join the fight against slavery and racism.
Archibald Grimké's contributions to the fight against racism extended far beyond his activism against slavery. As one of the founders of the NAACP, he played a crucial role in advocating for the rights and equality of African Americans. In 1909, Archibald Grimke became a founding member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. In 1923, he would be elected president of the Washington, D.C. NAACP chapter and also became a member of the organization’s national board of directors. Grimke also won the Spingarn Medal in 1919, the highest honor given by the NAACP.
Grimké recognized the importance of working towards systemic change and was instrumental in shaping the organization's strategies and goals. He believed in the power of education and fought for equal access to education for all African American children. Grimké's tireless efforts also included highlighting racial discrimination against African Americans in the military during World War I and working towards its eradication. His steadfast commitment to justice and equality paved the way for future generations of civil rights activists.
Archibald Grimké was a trailblazer in the fight against slavery and racism in the United States and died in Washington, D.C. on February 25, 1930, at the age of 80 years old.Tue, 18 Jul 2023 - 3min - 1200 - Tanya Petty Terminated From Employment For Harassing Black Man Fishing
A white woman who has been identified as Tanya Petty was an employee of Sea Glass Therapy until she was terminated after a video of her harassing a black resident in her neighborhood who was fishing went viral on social media. The incident that led to Tanya Petty's termination from her employment at Sea Glass Therapy has sparked outrage and widespread condemnation. In the video, which quickly gained traction on social media platforms, Tanya can be seen questioning whether or not the black resident who was peacefully fishing along the riverside with his partner, belonged in the community.
Watch Video!
The incident unfolded in a manner that has been all too typical when black people find themselves in white predominately white spaces but nonetheless, it is still shocking and deeply disturbing that this keeps happening all over the United States. Tanya, perhaps driven by her racist beliefs and prejudices, proceeded to threaten the couple by reporting them to law enforcement and said she would take a picture of their car tag. The video sparked a flurry of reactions from people all over the country, leading to some calling for Tanya's immediate termination from her contractor position at Sea Glass Therapy which is located in Newnan, Georgia.
The company issued the following statement:
"Sea Glass Therapy is a place of acceptance, healing, and inclusion of all people regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or background," the company shared on social media earlier this week.
"We stand against discrimination of all forms. We have terminated our business relationship with the independent contractor, Tanya, in order to uphold our values and standards. We strive to be a service to our community and do whatever we can to accommodate the needs of it, operating with integrity."
Petty was identified by a YouTube user as a massage therapist working as an independent contractor at Sea Glass Therapy, a Newnan, Georgia-based company offering counseling and personal therapy. Petty's Facebook and LinkedIn profiles, which appeared in some of the video copies, have now been made private or taken offline.
Many individuals online expressed their disgust and disappointment at Tanya's behavior while many others defended her intrusive actions, highlighting the importance of addressing and combating racism in all aspects of people's activity.Mon, 17 Jul 2023 - 3min - 1199 - BTR News: What Is A Moral Injury And How Does It Affect Vets And Cops?
Tonight’s main topics will cover the term “moral injury” being associated with military veterans that encompass symptoms like feelings of “betrayal, anger, shame and guilt” and it can lead to how this might play a significant role in the high suicide rate among veterans who fall victim to societal alienation. Often they are written off as suffering from the broad term PTSD associated with those who experienced combat during warfare but not all vets who suffer moral injuries have to do with seeing blood and guts on a battlefield or being forced to partake or witness the slaughter of civilians.
Now think about the moral injury that will be caused to US service members who don’t want to go fight and die for a fascist right-wing government turned dictatorship in Western Ukraine whose so-called President recently stated to the press that Russia wants to invade the Baltic NATO states and then the US will have to send their sons and daughters to fight and die. Russia has sought peace with Ukraine with the latest official meeting being the Minsk Accords but Zelensky who ran as a pro-peace candidate has been seduced or coerced into adopting the agenda of the far-right fascist political elements that include neo-Nazis who have deified the Nazi WWII collaborator Stepan Bandera.

However, before we get into the main topics, here are a few news, entertainment, and culture items that caught my eye over the past week.
Reports are true that Mississippi Republican RHINOS are attempting to disenfranchise voters with a bill that will create a district where judges in the criminal justice system will not be elected but become political appointees.
Mediaite, a blue check mark media company that gives “news” and “opinions” about the media was caught on social media pushing disinformation about the US government not funding neo-Nazi elements in Ukraine and no other so-called fact-checking organization fact-checked them when it is a well-documented fact that they were and still is.
The actor and former rapper Ice T aka Tracy Lauren Marrow took a jab at today's generation of rappers calling them "soft" and "goofy". Some hip-hop old heads don't agree one hundred percent.

What is culture and when it comes to "Black" people, what is "our" culture and why do some African Americans reject the culture of their direct ancestors here in the USA? And why do some of us insist on defending the oxymoronic term "Woman King"?
Let's define what we are talking about as "our" culture.
"Culture is an umbrella term that encompasses the social behavior, institutions, and norms found in human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, and habits of the individuals in these groups.[1] Culture is often originated from or attributed to a specific region or location.
Humans acquire culture through the learning processes of enculturation and socialization, which is shown by the diversity of cultures across societies."
"Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behavior. Psychology includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena, including feelings and thoughts. It is an academic discipline of immense scope, crossing the boundaries between the natural and social sciences."

Welcome to BTR NEWS w/ Scotty Reid as I broadcast from behind the enemy lines of Corporate USA. We have a guest joining us tonight who has a different opinion on the African Monarchs than I do and since it is Black History month, they are part of that history even if only a negative part, but I said sure why not let's have that discussion?
I also want to talk about the emotionalism and uncodified behavior I’ve witnessed in the wake of the killing of Tyre Nichols. One thing that caught my eye as well as that of the suspected racist podcast hosts, is the Rev. Al Sharpton's claim at the funeral for Mr. Nichols when he told the family that if he were white (Tyre), it would not have happened to him.
This statement is both uncodified and incorrect and when I pointed this out online, a black woman whom I don’t know blocked me on social media because of her emotionalism when confronted with irrefutable facts that all kinds of people get snuffed out by police in the USA.
Why is it so hard for some people, of all ethnicities and skin colors, to believe that hundreds of white people are among the body counts of those who died at the hands of cops?
It just seems to me that instead of discussing realistic solutions to the problem of police violence, some of my peers keep repeating the same arguments about how it is linked to white supremacy that they made the last time a black person was killed by cops on camera. Policing today is linked to 21st Century Slavery and today all demographics across racial lines are falling victim to the same system and the slave catchers come in all colors, religions, and genders.
Would love to hear from the listeners if they have anything they would like to discuss in the context of tonight’s discussion.Fri, 03 Feb 2023 - 1h 36min - 1194 - BTR News w/ Scotty Reid: Police Violence Is State Terrorism & Slavery

Fri, 12 Nov 2021 - 13min - 1170 - BTR News – Baltimore Pre-Teen Adolescent Black Boys Exploited In Rap Video
BTR News – On this episode of BTR News, Scotty comments on a story coming out of Baltimore, Maryland where two pre-teen adolescent boys are being exploited as rap artists. The boys are featured in what should seem highly inappropriate content to any logical adult. Children in the entertainment business are nothing new and child exploitation is nothing new but it still shocks the senses to see.
There seems to be a lack of public interest in the story but one wonders if these two boys were two pre-teen adolescent girls rapping to a song like WAP, would there be a bigger public outcry? If they were insulting the LGBTQ community would there be a bigger public outcry? It is hard to say but we think there would be more attention paid to this story.

BTR News - Seven of the twelve jurors who sat on the Derek Chauvin trial are speaking out about some of the behind-the-scenes jury deliberations.
On May 25, 2020, on a street in front of a convenience store, George Floyd would be murdered on video by cops in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Multiple videos taken by eyewitnesses were uploaded to the internet and circulated widely, sparking a renewed focus on police violence in the United States. The videos compelled more people to go out into the streets to demand justice for Floyd and demand an end to the brutalization and killing of US citizens by US law enforcement.
Derek Chauvin, the now-convicted murderer, was the first of four officers to go on trial for charges related to Mr. Floyd’s killing. Chavin was facing three charges. unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter during his trial back in April of 2021.
The seven jurors appearing on Don Lemon Tonight revealed that all jurors were in agreement that Chauvin was guilty on the unintentional murder and second-degree manslaughter charges, but the jurors were split on the third-degree murder charge. After some discussion, there was one moment that shifted jurors' opinions from not guilty to guilty according to the jurors on Don Lemon’s show.
Chauvin was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison for his part in the killing of George Floyd. The video of the killing caused empathic reactions around the world as people signaled solidarity with the protestors and activists seeking justice for George Floyd.
Many who saw the images of Chauvin nonchalantly kneeling Floyd’s neck 9 minutes and 29 seconds while the other three officers knelt on his back and legs, were disturbed by the behavior of officers showing no empathy as a human being begged for his life calling out for his dead mother with his final breaths.
The murder sparked calls within Minneapolis to reduce the city’s number of cops and to reimagine public safety under the lens of public health and not deploy armed officers to answer mental health calls to reduce unnecessary fatalities that impact the victim, the victim’s families, the officers, and their families and the wider community. An initiative was put forth to voters called Ballot proposal No. 2.The proposal asks voters whether the city charter should be amended to remove its requirement that the city has a police department with a minimum staffing level and if passed would allow the city officials to reimagine policing the community’s elected representatives.

Fri, 29 Oct 2021 - 3min - 1168 - BTR News – Julius Jones’s Clemency Hearing & Kyle Rittenhouse’s Pre-Trial Hearing
Deathrow inmate’s clemency hearing delayed
A clemency hearing for Oklahoma death row inmate Julius Jones scheduled for Tuesday has been delayed for a week while his legal challenge is pending in federal court. Jones maintains his innocence and says he was set up by a former friend who was the prosecution’s main witness against him. However, during his trial, a juror was reported after his trial for racial bias.
MSNBC’s Ari Melber talks about the case.
Additionally, for Jones, he and five other death row inmates are seeking to be reinstated into a federal lawsuit, challenging Oklahoma’s lethal injection protocol. A federal district judge on Monday rejected the inmates’ request, and their attorneys immediately appealed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
According to Wisconsin Judge, Victims of Shooting Are Rioters and Looters
Kenosha County Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder says, victims can not be called victims but can be called rioters, arsonists, and looters in the recent pre-trial hearing of alleged Kyle Rittenhouse.
On August 25, 2020, amid the Kenosha unrest that had been preceded by the police shooting of Jacob Blake, Kyle Rittenhouse, a then 17-year-old from Antioch, Illinois, was driven to Kenosha by his mother where he shot and killed two people and wounded another during multiple confrontations at two locations.
Rittenhouse’s defense attorney argued the shootings should be weighed against the wider context of what was happening that night. "All of that lawlessness, all of the facts and circumstances surrounding what is going on, is relevant in terms of Kyle Rittenhouse's conduct. I think it's impossible to say that it's not."
The three men shot by Rittenhouse have never been charged with any crime related to the protests against police brutality that occurred on the night of August 25, 2020, nor has any evidence surfaced to suggest that they had. It is as if the Judge wants to try the victims in his court and not the person tried with murdered and attempted murder among other criminal charges.
Thomas Binger, the prosecutor, argued Monday that any behavior Rosenbaum, Huber or Grosskreutz may have participated in that night could lead the jury to believe they were arsonists, rioters or looters wasn't witnessed by Rittenhouse and shouldn't be part of his defense.
Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger argued the judge was setting up a "double standard" due to his longstanding rule of not allowing prosecutors to refer to people as "victims" at trial.
"If I were to count the number of times that you've admonished me not to call someone a victim during a trial, it would be in the thousands," Binger said.
"The word 'victim' is a loaded, loaded word. And I think 'alleged victim' is a cousin to it," Judge Schroeder said.
But Binger disagreed, telling the judge, "I think it's the exact same issue. The terms that I'm identifying here, such as 'rioters,' 'looters,' 'arsonists,' are as loaded, if not more loaded, than the term 'victim.'

by Scotty Reid
The research company Statista reported recently that the 2020 revenue for the global athletic shoe market or sneaker market was valued at around 70 billion U.S. dollars annually, and it reports that the market is forecast to reach a value of 102 billion U.S. dollars in four years.
Sneakers as they’re popularly known in the United States became a fashion staple in the Black community around the late 1970s and 1980s owing to their growing popularity in part to the early interactions of hip-hop culture. Not only did break dancers, an athletic form of dancing that included elements of gymnastics, need comfortable shoes to perform but matching the shoes to an outfit, a fashion statement was just as important to the performers.
Then in the mid-80s came along one Michael Jeffrey Jordan, who had one of the best NBA careers of his era, and became arguably the first global influencer long before the age of social media. Nike’s media campaigns really leaned into a proud Black Identity without overtly showing their hand, by telling everyone to Just Be Like Mike, a Black man in a white-dominated society!
It helped that Jordan the man was not one to wade into the social-political sphere once quipping that “republicans buy shoes too” when asked to endorse the Black Democrat Harvey Gannt, the former mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, who hope to defeat the lifelong white supremacist, Senator Jesse Helms. Another bonus for Nike was that Jordan the man would likely not be raising any issues with Nike’s labor practices let alone concern himself about where the Jordans sneakers were manufactured.
Nike’s iconic commercials, one starring, directed, and produced by famed Black film director Spike Lee at the peak of his popularity, somewhat of a Black cultural icon and a basketball fan in his own right, the media campaigns made Nike’s Jordans brand its signature shoe driving the majority of its sales and thus profits.
Sneakers are still a foundation of Black fashion trends, so it’s logical that Black consumers are still the foundation of sneaker purchases thus driving the profits for the top global corporate brands like Adidas, Converse, Nike, and Rebook. However, most if not all manufacturing is done in countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, and China.
The dollars the Black consumer market spends on these products often do not turn into employment opportunities for the communities where these Black consumers are geographically located. Corporations have long since outsourced manufacturing jobs where the corporations contract with factories in foreign countries where employers pay workers what would be considered slave wages in the US, wages well below the ridiculously low US Federal minimum wage.
Enter the Covid 19 Pandemic!
The coronavirus pandemic is having an impact despite the 2020 sales, COVID 19 did not arrive in the United States until the last two months of the calendar year. CNBC reports the sneaker giant Nike, the main supplier to Dick’s Sporting Goods, a national retailer, is having supply chain issues. The same issues are also affecting other industries that rely on outsourced manufacturing.
Despite the upward global trend in the demand for sneakers, with projected sales crossing the 100 Billion per year mark, Nike lowered its internal fiscal 2022 outlook due to the disruption in the global supply chain. Longer transit times, labor shortages abroad with prolonged production shutdowns in Vietnam, a major player in the manufacturing of Nike brand shoes.

The apartheid government of Israel is causing divisions among African nations as it reapplies for observer status in the African Union.
Some of the opposition by AU member states is based on procedural issues while for others it is the Israeli treatment of Palestinians during the Israeli occupation which has lasted for over 54 years.
Israel had observer status with the Organisation of African Unity until that continental body became the African Union in 2002. African Union Commission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat has now opened the door to Israel again however not every member state is open to the decision.
Israel wants to join a growing list of more than 90 external partners endorsed by the African Union. If approved, Israel would have limited access to AU documents and sit as an observer when invited to meetings. Accredited non-African states and organizations are expected to support the AU's work in the spirit of its founding principles.
However, the African Union as a body has called for an 'end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine that started in 1967, and also called for the independence of the state of Palestine on the boundaries of June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.'
Countries that have criticized Faki's decision claim that all African member states are unlikely to support Israel's accreditation, given the AU's political stance on Palestine.
If one African Union member state objects to a non-African state's accreditation, the AU Executive Council must decide the issue and those opposing Faki on the issue say the AU rejected two previous applications by Israel in 2013 and 2016 for this very reason. As the situation in Palestine hasn't changed, they argue, neither should Israel's status. They claim the move would be against the AU's founding principles and vision.

As vaccine hesitancy persists in Africa and the African Diaspora, with confirmed cases on the rise, we have African sources reporting a new emerging variant of Corona Virus 19. We have seen white religious figures push fear of the vaccines and forbidding people from wearing masks on their property as they seek to test their “God” in some fool hearty show of “faith”, we also have some Black “ministers” jumping on that bandwagon who are not even Christians but claiming to represent Christ talking about “God” told them the vaccines are to depopulate the earth. BTR News takes a look at some of the information coming from African news sources about covid since people are also engaging in “spookism” to make Black people fearful of the vaccines while their dying at higher rates than their white counterparts.

Welcome to this episode of BTR News with Scotty Reid, broadcasting from behind the enemy lines of USA Inc. As I said I would at the conclusion of the episode titled BTR News – The Willie Lynch Letter & The Black Attack On Black Identified Christians I will be sharing and responding to subscriber's comments.
In the episode, I discussed why it is incorrect behavior to be discourteous, and rude, and likely not a good strategy for "unifying black people". Particularly on any issues deemed important to the “community” at large when one group of Black people mock another group on a sensitive subject and area in their lives. Some of the rhetoric rises to the level of hate speech and religious discrimination.
I also found it puzzling that the group doing the most swears by the contents of the Willie Lynch letter in which the fictional Willie Lynch writes that if slave masters follow the psychological methods he lists, then slavers would control victims of slavery for 300 years. While some recognize squabbling, be rude and discourteous to would-be "allies" is unconstructive and needs to stop but for some reason don't recognize when they are being rude and discourteous to "black Christians" or anyone with religious/spiritual practices different from their own.
In this episode, I will share some of the feedback received on the Willie Lynch letter specifically and in the next episode or two, focus on the feedback received on the Afro-Christophobia portion of BTR News – The Willie Lynch Letter & The Black Attack On Black Identified Christians.

Cash App $BTMProjectTue, 10 Aug 2021 - 20min - 1152 - BTR News – Trigger Warning: Mali’s King Mansa Musa Was A Wealthy Slaver
Recently I came across a meme featuring Malian King Mansa Musa and how a person wanted to see a film about the man who was deemed to be one of the wealthiest men who ever lived who gave so much gold away in Egypt on his famous trek in Africa, that it caused the gold markets to crash.
I was first introduced to King Mansa Musa back in high school in the ’80s when I saw one of those Budweiser marketing displays about the “Great Kings and Queens of Africa” in a bar that I was not to supposed to be in. I didn’t think anything of it other than cool, an African King. It was later when one of the former podcasters I knew used an image of Musa as his cover art. The show was in part about generating wealth. I then decided to look up information on King Musa and discovered he enslaved people and being a modern slavery abolitionist, I questioned the choice.
So coming across the meme armed with the information I had learned previously, I simply stated a fact which was that his wealth was acquired from gold mines worked by victims of slavery and that his “flossing” or “showing off” his wealth, put a target on Africa which brought more and more Arabs and Europeans to Africa.
Therefore in my own meme, in the description I wrote that I would like to see the film as well, but only if it is historically accurate. This resulted in some pushback which I will share on this podcast including the research by Balanta scholar by the name of Siphiwe Baleka who formerly identified as African American or Black.

Afro-Christiphobia is a term that refers to the hate that Black people produced to use as a weapon against other Black people. So a person tried to cryptically call me out in a chat room because he is still salty cause I kicked his program off Black Talk Radio Network years ago because of his on-air Afro-Christophobia, a term I came up with to describe the behavior of Black people using hurtful, hateful, mean-spirited, and often factually incorrect opinions of Black Christians specifically and Christianity in general.
I discuss why it was the correct decision to ban him and how the behavior intersects with the Willie Lynch Letter that proposed ways to keep victims of slavery in bondage by getting them to hate on each other and love their enslavers.

The assaults on Critical Race Theory continue from conservatives practicing racism along with their non-white proxies they have doing some of the dirty work. While Critical Race Theory is an advanced course offered in some colleges, conservatives have falsely made CRT about anything teaching about institutional and societal racism in U.S. history. As I've written before, the attacks are political in nature and a distraction from real issues like poverty wages, unaffordable housing, lack of access to quality healthcare, and now, lack of access to a well-rounded education on the nation's history.
Tonight we will speak with Rodney Pierce, the North Carolina 2019 Social Studies Teacher of the Year about the censorship of components of U.S, History in schools. Mr. Pierce was recently featured by Mother Jones in the article "The Moral Panic Over Critical Race Theory Is Coming for a North Carolina Teacher of the Year".

In addition to discussing her latest book series focused on Black women, hopefully, we can get her opinion on reporting and opinions coming out for and against world number two tennis pro Naomi Osaka's decision to withdraw from one tennis major and skip another citing self-care reasons. Former tennis pro and six-time champion, and alleged tax dodger, Boris Becker had some harsh words for the 23-year-old 4-time major champion Naomi Osaka after she declined to participate in Wimbledon 2021 shortly after dropping out of the French Open.
Nomia Oska's father was born in Haiti and like Richard Williams, father of the tennis greats Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, Leonard François taught Naomi and her sister Mari Osaka to play tennis at an early age to prepare them for success in the world of professional tennis, a white-dominated field in terms of the industry hierarchy and ownership. While Serena and Venus have been trailblazers for Black women in professional tennis, some have also said Naomi Osaka is a trailblazer in mental self-care to deal with the media circus that often can be challenging and taxing for Black professional athletes across sports.

Sun, 04 Jul 2021 - 41min - 1143 - BTR News – Critical Race Theory, North Carolina and Confederate Monuments
By Scotty Reid - It has been one year since protests against the “Confederate Heroes Monument” were ignited by the murder of George Floyd by a former police officer named Derek Chauvin. On July 4th, 2020, a national holiday that celebrates the independence of American colonists from the British Crown leading to the founding of the United States, that a racially diverse group of Gaston County activists staged dramatic readings of speeches against slavery by past abolitionists, black and white, at the county courthouse under the specter of a Confederate monument.
The intent of the organizers, an informal group called the East Gaston Coalition for Freedom and Justice was to highlight the hypocrisy of celebrating “freedom” while depriving people of their freedoms based solely on their skin color and origins. The event was used to teach attendants that the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution technically did not end slavery but merely created a new form called prison slavery and how laws were passed collectively known as the Black Codes in the South in order for the former Confederate states to re-enslave former victims of plantation slavery and their descendants by way of “Convict Leasing” a prison practice that continues to this day. Currently, there is a Congressional resolution to remove the slavery loophole in the 13th Amendment called the "Abolition Amendment".
Unbeknown to the organizers of the July 4. 2020 protest/teach-in, we were engaging in what today would be labeled Critical Race Theory, which is a niche field of academia where a small group of legal scholars and thinkers analyze the intersection of race and law.
Critical Race Theory has been around since the 1970s and became a movement started by a small group of U.S legal scholars but in the year 2021, after all these decades, censoring this research has become a cause for dishonest politicians and their followers.
Considering all the arguments being made by conservative politicians and those who repeat the false narratives used to censor an area of academic research, it is important to sort out the facts.
According to scholars that study Critical Race Theory, it describes the diverse work of a small group of scholars who write about the shortcomings of conventional civil rights liberal approaches in addressing systemic racism in the United States. Critical Race Theory pushes back on the liberal argument that promoting “color blindness” is all that is needed to push the nation forward towards a more equitable society for all. Interestingly some of those attacking the field of study who are not liberals, in their arguments are claiming they don’t see color as they absurdly claim that CRT teaches black people to hate and physically attack their white neighbors.
The public has been gaslighted into believing that CRT is part of the K-12 school curriculum when in fact is a voluntary course offered by just a few universities. The controversy is wholly manufactured by those that want to distract from real issues plaguing the masses of people in the United States, including the issue of prison slavery affecting all people, no matter their race, sex, gender, or national origin.
Despite the ban on Confederate monuments in North Carolina by the state’s constitution, a Republican legislature pushed through a state law banning the removal of Confederate monuments and signed into law by a Republican governor in 2015, an occurrence that is a perfect candidate for CRT study. While conservatives seek to ban CRT, it should be noted that they more than embrace the “Lost Cause” mythology that seeks to revise the history of the main cause of the Civil War, the perceived abolishment of slavery with the election of Abraham Lincoln.
The movement to ban CRT is really just the latest strategy by Republicans who have taken it upon themselves since the 1970s to defend th...Thu, 01 Jul 2021 - 4min - 1142 - BTR News – White Male Is Claiming To Be Transracial After $150,000 Surgery

Joining us on BTR News tonight is a friend of the show Kwabena Rasuli of Clear The Airwaves Project. We will be discussing several news stories related to the filth passing as hip-hop music including the recently shared details about the young teens and a twenty-year-old who killed rapper, Pop Smoke.
In the News,
Comments made by Jay Z about his track "Big Pimpin" resurfaced from an interview he gave 11 years ago about the lyrics.
Singer Mirah Carey made the news by reportedly jokingly threatening to sick lawyers on an artist who sampled one of her songs "Shake It Off" and rapped about killing people.
A high school baseball coach was recently fired for telling a Black baseball player to turn off that "nword" music. Apparently, the player, the only Black student on the team was blasting rap music over a loudspeaker that repeatedly referred to people as n-words and the coach was not happy with it.
Details have emerged concerning the home invasion and murder of murder music artist Pop Smoke. Apparently, Mr. Smoke was robbed by teens and one twenty years old and reportedly, he was shot by a 15 yr old while trying to flee his robbers. However, comments made by the mother of the rapper are kind of puzzling and she seems to be blinded by grief and cognitive dissonance.Wed, 12 May 2021 - 1h 28min - 1131 - BTR News – The RIAA Is Culpable In Accidental Killing of Gabrielle Jones & Other Victims of Gun Violence
Gaston County, NC – Gabrielle Jones, just 7 yrs old, was killed this month by an uncle in an accidental shooting. According to local news reports, police said Jeremy Quintrel Lewis was shooting a rap music video inside the home Gabrielle lived which is located on Ware Avenue in Gastonia, NC. Apparently, Lewis used real guns as props for the video. When it comes to gun violence whether intended or not, it is very concerning that children are among the many, many victims of gun violence in the United States. Solutions to stop the carnage seem to be lacking.
The United States culturally is based on violence and as a nation, historically, one could argue has been one of the most violent barbaric nations on the face of the planet. However, when it comes to the African-American community culturally, our rich and historic culture in the arts and music has been perverted by the music industry also known as the Recording Industry Association of America, a trade organization representing the industry players. They are most responsible for the content perversion.
The RIAA is more responsible, other than the television and movie industry, in promoting and celebrating violent conflict resolution. Rap music today is judged not by the industry on any kind of culturally artistic intellectual achievement but rather is based on sales which are equated to popularity and no one drives violent pornographic rap sales more than white people who also profit the most from its dissemination through various labels. If Black Lives Matter is a principle white people agree on, then why don’t they stop purchasing music that equates Black people with n-words whose lives don’t matter in the lyrical content. Sure the recording artists bear some responsibility but the lion’s share of the fault rests with the captains of industry and the consumer base.

Video Version:Sat, 27 Mar 2021 - 23min - 1127 - BTR News: Where Is Rachel Dolezal’s Trans Support?
Rachael Dolezal is a woman who was accused of pretending to be Black living as a light skin Black woman. Her story came to the media forefront back in 2015 after her white parents came out and said that Rachel was born white and therefore not black. Shortly after her white parents revealed that she was their biological child and was white, and not the Black woman she had lived her life as, Rachel was attacked from all sides of the racial spectrum and her life began to unravel. The story fueled a national debate in the United States about racial identity.
Dolezal's critics stated that she was guilty of cultural appropriation. Dolezal and those who defended her asserted that her self-identification is genuine and that she should be accepted as a Black woman despite her physical characteristics or the body she was born in. I found the case to be very fascinating, to say the least, and I actually felt some sympathy for Rachel because I thought she must be sincere about her racial identity because who in their right mind would choose to be Black in a racist society full of anti-blackness.
I also felt that however sincere Rachel was about her racial identity, that she was deeply delusional, caught up in a delusion that started when she was just a young teenage girl.
To be clear, I subscribe to the definition of delusion, which is: “an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument, typically a symptom of mental disorder.”
Rachel is back in the news and according to published accounts, will be featured alongside of Black women in a documentary about the adaptation of black beauty standards and her critics are raising the alarm over her inclusion in “Subjects of Desire”.
To be honest, the subject matter of the documentary is not one that appeals to me so I will not watch it but I am still fascinated with Rachel’s story about being transracial.
In the past couple of months, I was pulled into the current national debate about whether or not trans women should be allowed to compete against xx chromosome women and girls in sports when my eldest daughter, a former record-holding track athlete, raised a concern about the fairness of competition and was attacked and called all sorts of names for expressing her concerns. When Rachel was brought into the spotlight again through this film, I could not help but make the connection to the arguments made to me on behalf of the trans rights movement. To be clear, I personally believe that as humans, trans-identifying people have human rights, but I do not believe they should be afforded special rights above other humans.
One person said to me in defense of a transsexual identity and biological xy chromosome males being allowed to compete with biological females simply because they “identify” as female, that gender was a social construct. Gender, which also refers to sex in its definition, isn’t a social construct but one based on the science of biology and the sex chromosomes that determine whether one is male or female. XX chromosomes result in biological females. XY chromosomes result in a biological male. To claim otherwise is well, delusional. You can change your hair, you can change your clothes, you can change the appearance of your body but they have yet to come up with a way to change your sex chromosomes from XX to XY or vice versa. This is a scientific fact free of social biases.
However,Wed, 24 Mar 2021 - 6min - 1126 - BTR News: 80 Percent Of Illinois Residents At Risk For Lead Poisoning
A Chicago-Tribune analysis has found that eighty percent of people living in Illinois live in a community where brain-damaging lead was found in at least one home in that community. The analysis is based on a very small sample of “samples collected under federal regulations by the state’s 1,768 water utilities” and is likely not even close to the number of homes affected considering most communities use the same water source from the same water utilities.
“Too many people still get their water from what essentially is a lead straw,” said Miguel del Toral, a retired U.S. Environmental Protection Agency scientist who discovered high levels of toxic metal in water at homes in Flint, Michigan, and East Chicago, Indiana.
The problem, which is decades old points to a crumbling and dangerous infrastructure that the utilities, local municipalities, state and federal governments have failed to address by making the necessary investments.
The failure to invest in public infrastructure projects, like replacing lead-tainted pipes is costing the nation in other areas like healthcare.
According to the Chicago-Tribune report, “Between 2015 and 2020, tap water in dozens of Illinois homes had hundreds and even thousands of parts per billion of lead — just as extreme as what researchers found during the same period in Flint, where mismanagement of the public water system exposed children to the toxic metal and drew a world spotlight to the scourge.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, the symptoms of lead poisoning show up in newborns, children, and adults.
Signs and symptoms of lead poisoning in children include:
* Developmental delay
* Learning difficulties
* Irritability
* Loss of appetite
* Weight loss
* Sluggishness and fatigue
* Abdominal pain
* Vomiting
* Constipation
* Hearing loss
* Seizures
* Eating things, such as paint chips, that aren't food (pica)
Lead poisoning symptoms in newborns
Babies exposed to lead before birth might:
* Be born prematurely
* Have lower birth weight
* Have slowed growth
Lead poisoning symptoms in adults
Although children are primarily at risk, lead poisoning is also dangerous for adults. Signs and symptoms in adults might include:
* High blood pressure
* Joint and muscle pain
* Difficulties with memory or concentration
* Headache
* Abdominal pain
* Mood disorders
* Reduced sperm count and abnormal sperm
* Miscarriage, stillbirth or premature birth in pregnant women
It is very apparent that lead poisoning is a crisis in the United States and is a problem that demands the attention of lawmakers and regulatory bodies. In the meantime, it would be wise for residents who rely on tap water to invest in water filtration products.
