Our Quran Journey

Remarkable women have done remarkable things in every part of the world in every time in history. One such woman, revered by billions, is Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (Khadijah, daughter of Khuwaylid), born in Mekka in 555 CE. In this episode, we share how she inspires us.

There are many verses in the Quran that refer specifically to the way a woman should dress or walk in public. The month of Ramadan is popular among the Muslim Ummah because of the fasting that takes place in this month. Then there is the month of Shawal when Eid-ul-Fitr takes place and then there is the month of Dhul-Hijja which is known for the observation of Hajj and Eid-ul-Adha. Every Muslim is familiar with the popularity and the virtues of these months, however, there are other months as well that are special like these months. One of the special months of the Islamic lunar calendar is the month of Muharram. In this episode, we explore the virtues found in this sacred month.

There are times we feel like our du'as are not being answered, our salah is not having a positive impact on our hearts, and worst of all the feeling that we’re horrible human beings, that Allah doesn’t love us or doesn’t care about us anymore. Surah Ad-Duha was revealed to the Prophet (saw) to relieve him of these negative feelings and to give him hope, positivity, and the assurance that Allah is with him no matter what.

“So which of the Favours of your Lord would you deny?” is repeated 31 times throughout Surah ar-Rahman. In this episode, we reflect on the nature and attributes of Surah ar-Rahman and the particular special verse: “So which of the Favours of your Lord would you deny?”, with special guest Shakirah Firaz.

Prophet Zakariya was an elderly man, having grown old without any children. His own wife was infertile. In some narrations it was mentioned that Prophet Zakariya was about 100 years old, some say even more than that. Even so, Prophet Zakariya did not stop making du'a and eventually, Allah SWT blessed him with a healthy baby boy – Prophet Yahya. In this episode, we reflect on the lessons learnt from this verse.

Verse 35 in Surah An-Nur is said to be the most beautiful verse in the Quran. The verse is renowned for its remarkable beauty and imagery, and perhaps more than any other verse lends itself to mystical or esoteric readings of the Quran. In this episode, we explore what it means.

Part 4: Dhul-Qarnayn – King Dhul-Qarnayn was a man endowed by Allah with many talents and abilities, including military prowess, the ability to rule kingdoms, and extensive practical knowledge on many aspects of life. He was also a pious and steadfast Muslim who constantly contemplated over the signs of Allah and lived his days travelling from one destination to the next in order to establish justice in the land and alleviate the suffering of the people.
