Ngā mihi whakamānawa o Matariki ki a koutou katoa. It’s been a maaaassively busy period for me, but one filled with so many beautiful kaupapa and amazing people that even though I’m exhausted, my heart is full, seeing our Ao Māori puuuumping. I’m back home now and super excited to get into our next Blockchain Navigators wānanga with none other than @haycrypto Hays is an awesome wahine who has a background in Education and Tech, previously teaching in the space of digital skills. She has a deep passion for Web3 that led her to create @haycrypto by mixing education and Web3 together. Hays also works in the crypto space as part of the @easycryptonz team, which means she fills her kete of knowledge in this kaupapa on the daily. She has been sharing awesome mātauranga and solid tips on how to navigate this blockchain / crypto currency / NFT space and on how to keep our whānau safe as we explore this new territory. Hays focus right now is in getting our tamariki educated in this space, equipping them with the skills and understanding so that they can navigate Te Moana Nui o Krypto and navigate the blockchain safely. In our wānanga we’ll look at a range of kaupapa including * Why should we even be considering web3 / blockchain / crypto / NFTs? * How can we navigate this space safely? * Where can we look to find solid education and grow our puna mātauranga? * Why she sees it’s important for our rangatahi to be educated in this space. If you haven’t come across @haycrypto and her awesome posts, I HIGHLY recommend you go check her page out and tune in for our kōrero!
Wed, 17 May 2023 - 1h 24min - 10 - Kaye-Maree Dunn | Wānanga NFT
Tēnā anō tātou! After a couple weeks off with the ‘rona and the subsequent catch ups and birthday weekend I’m excited to announce our next Blockchain Navigators wānanga 6.30pm TONIGHT with Kaye-Maree Dunn. Kaye-Maree is an amazing community connector and tech entrepreneur, she is the managing director of MEA | Making Everything Achievable and has been at the forefront of indigenous tech developments such as Indigicoin and Āhau: a Whānau Data Platform that helps whānau-based communities (whānau, hapū, Iwi) capture, preserve, and share important information and histories into secure, whānau managed databases and servers. Kaye-Maree has been exploring and working in the blockchain space for years now and has a multitude of connections across the tech space. When she pairs that with her indigenous community development background it gives her a solid understanding of how we as tangata whenua can engage with the technology in ways that enhance our culture and help us thrive. In our wānanga we’ll dive into * some of her key learnings in the space * some trends of how indigenous people are engaging with blockchain technology * ways that we as Māori can use the technology to protect our mātauranga and taonga * the potential of indigenous blockchains and/or cryptocurrencies We’ll also have a kōrero about how we as iwi taketake can influence development with these technologies so we can all benefit from them and thrive.
Wed, 17 May 2023 - 1h 34min - 9 - Pat MacFie | Wānanga NFT
Nau mai hoki mai anō e te whānau! After having a ‘rona enforced “rest” and moving house I’m finally back on my feet and excited to invite you all to our next Blockchain Navigators Wānanga with Pat MacFie! “Don’t sleep e te whānau!” Pat is a jedi innovator who lives with an Ao Māori world view. With a deep sense of purpose, he is kaupapa driven and is a man of many talents who wears many hats that include leading the Manaaki.io team as well as a bunch of other awesome kaupapa including: *MacFie Foundation - supporting people to study in tertiary, *Digital Doers Academy - supporting people to upskill and become digital and social media advisors, *You Do You - Youth enterprise kaupapa *Manaaki U - supporting small businesses to reach their goals. When I invited Pat to be part of our wānanga he spoke about community empowerment through decentralisation as the core of what he is about. We often hear about the decentralised nature of Web 3 / Blockchain but not many of us can really describe what that means and how it may look or how we can engage with it. This is something that Pat is amazing at and we will no doubt learn heaps from this deep dive into this decentralised world. I’m especially excited because like me, he’s determined to not only help us as indigeneous peoples adopt Web3 trends, but help us become the early adopters and lead the wave. The bro has also been really vocal to make sure we “don’t sleep” and are aware of the many influences and traps that are present in the Blockchain and NFT space, during our wānanga we’ll also have a look at these and how we can keep ourselves and our whānau safe and thriving!
Wed, 17 May 2023 - 1h 47min - 8 - Kereama Taepa | Wānanga NFT
Nau mai e te whānau ki tō tātou wānanga e whai ake nei, I’m amped for our next Blockchain Navigators wānanga with the Mando himself: Kereama Taepa. Kereama has been working in the digital art space as both an artist and as a teacher for over a decade. He’s passionate about exploring new and emergent technologies and how they relate to te ao Māori. This interest encompasses everything from Virtual Reality to Augmented Reality, Whakapī (3D Printing), Te Ao Matihiko (Digital), Te Ao Mariko (Virtual) Whekehiko (Digital Printing) and more. In our wānanga we will deep dive into: The whakapapa of this digital space, ko wai ngā atua o te ao Tātai Waehere? Who are the atua of this space and how do we relate and engage with them? The different art worlds and how we as Māori can engage with them both as artists and as potential investors. What to look for when researching to invest digital artists and their art. What are they saying, what is the art about, what does it mean? Intellectual Property and Appropriation of art
Wed, 17 May 2023 - 1h 57min - 7 - Graham Hoete - Mr G | Wānanga NFT
Join us as we get into our next Blockchain Navigators Wānanga with the Jedi Artist himself: Graham Hoete a.k.a Mr G!! The bro has been cranking as an artist for over 18 years, creating epic mahi toi across all different mediums from graff to digital, from whakairo to fine art and more. I’ve been a fan of the Mr G's mahi toi for years now and I especially love his murals of our people all over Aotearoa. What’s exciting now is that the bro is making massive moves into the NFT space and in my eyes is one of the first major Māori artists to do so in such a complete way. He’s already dropped his first NFT collection on OpenSea, (of which I am absolutely stoked to have his Original Aotearoa sign!) and is nearing his second drop of high quality art. If you haven’t already seen his mahi, you deeeefinitely need to check him out! @mrghoete https://www.mrghoeteart.com/ In our wānanga we’ll be deep diving into: * the NFT space from a genuine artistic point of view * how we can utilise the NFT technology as a way of sharing our art for arts sake as opposed to it just being a commodity to hype, flip and make money * how we see the space developing for Māori artists to bring our mahi toi to a wider audience * what’s next for Mr G in this NFT journey…
Wed, 17 May 2023 - 1h 44min - 6 - Te Kanapu Anasta | Wānanga NFT
E te whānau, nau mai ki te wānanga tuaono o Blockchain Navigators! I'm amped as to get into another blockchain wānanga with my bro Te Kanapu Anasta. Te Kanapu has a background of teaching, developing and running cultural revitalisation kaupapa for iwi (paepae, tikanga, reo, whakapapa, kōrero tuku iho) kaupapa Māori development and implementation across organisations. Like myself, he's an Ika-ā-Whiro o Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo Māori and is passionate about our language and culture and the advancement of our people. Since I started to dive into learning about this blockchain space, Te Kanapu and I have been having yarns not only about the reo of the blockchain but also how our Māori culture and cultural values can be embodied and protected in this new realm. During our wānanga we'll dive into: * the transition of our culture into the digital space of the blockchain, crypto, nft, the metaverse. * the question "Can kawa and tikanga be carried into a digital space?" * how our taonga Māori might exist in the open market and how we might protect our taonga from exploitation and appropriation, especially in the digital space. * the question "Can the wairua | spiritual element of our culture be transitioned and adopted in the digital world?" He tīmatanga kōrero pea noa ēnei e hoa mā. These will be good starting points but I'm really excited to do some deep diving with the bro.
Wed, 17 May 2023 - 1h 34min - 5 - Te Haunui Tuna | Wānanga NFT
I’m stoked to be having a wānanga with my super talented, skilled and amazing bro Te Haunui not only because he’s my bro, but because he’s the one who first introduced me to what an NFT is and I was there when he sold his very first NFTs from his Kaupapa @graffgrems at a Tombheads Discord Auction. Te Haunui is a multi talented artist who has the Midas touch. He is an epic moko artist, digital illustrator, painter, sketcher, and 3D sculptor. He has taken a massive leap into the NFT blockchain space with his Kaupapa @graffgrems which helps weave his loves for art, for community, for pop culture and video games. During our wānanga we’ll cover: - how he got into NFTs, some of the highlights and major learnings. - how he stepped into creating a project and the process from conception to execution and now continuation of the project now and into the future. - how he sees the NFT space playing a part in our future as artists and specifically as Māori artists. - what sort of things we can think about if we are going down the path of creating projects or investing in projects of this sort. Again the intention is to get an insight into the back end of a real project, run by real Māori, with real community and future aspirations. It’s a way for us all to learn from the experiences of our mates and whānau and to all grow and rise together.
Wed, 17 May 2023 - 1h 46min - 4 - Riapo Panapa | Wānanga NFT
Most of you will know the bro Riapo as a musician and lead singer in @sonsofzionmusic where he and the bros have been jamming out the soundtracks to our summers for yeeeears! The bro Riapo is multi-skilled and multi-talented, so as well as being a badass kaiwaiata he’s a video producer/creator, vlogger, a NFT creator and community builder. He is a proud Māori and has been repping our people 💯 Last time we were on the mish together we were swimming with the sharks and following the footsteps of our tupuna in Tahiti. Since then, he’s been exploring new ideas, breaking new ground and discovering new islands in the blockchain metaverse. Riapo has been in the NFT space for a while now and has many projects on go but no doubt a lot of you will know that he is one of the team behind @eagerbeavernft alongside our bro @kingsmusicnz and @stanwalker. In our wānanga we’ll be exploring: - Riapo’s journey to this point from music to crypto currency and more recently this emerging world of NFTs - the potential impact that NFTs will have on the music industry and more importantly putting the mana back in the hands of the artists - the emergence of NFT projects here in Aotearoa and potential for Māori and Pasifika artists in this space. Then we’ll deep dive into his current project @eagerbeavernft and look at the values that underpin it and the thinking behind why and how the team have launched and intend to roll this kaupapa. E hoa mā, kia mōhio mai koutou, this isn’t going to be a shilling session, it will be a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of a real life NFT project. Our hope is that it will give insights and tautoko our mates and whānau who are moving into this NFT space to make sure the values and whakaaro behind these projects align with our cultural values and ethics and bring out the best for our peoples. Nau mai e hoa mā!
Wed, 17 May 2023 - 1h 21min - 3 - Faiumu Matthew Salapu a.k.a Anonymouz_37hz | Wānanga NFT
Nau mai! Welcome to our next wānanga on our blockchain / NFT Kaupapa with my bro Faiumu Matthew Salapu aka @anonymouz_37hz Anonymouz is a multi talented artist, music producer, visionary, blockchain navigator and all round awesome dude. Right now he’s on a residency creating a major audio visual work, ‘RESAMPLE TATAU’ (Tali le ‘au - lean into the pain). This kaupapa dives into his Samoan whakapapa, into the art of Tatau and will be world premiered March 9th at the 2022 Aotearoa NZ Festival of the Arts in Wellington. “Receiving my tatau back in 2015 by Su’a Suluape Paulo Junior of the prestigious Sā Su’ā SULUAPE TATAU-marks Of Polynesia clan, I had a microphone setup recording the tapping sounds and spatial ambience of my seven sessions. These recordings are now being resampled into a seven movement, foundational 62 minute soundscape layer using hip hop music production techniques interwoven with music composition, avant garde sound design, orchestral string arrangement, indigenous Moana Pacific instrumentation, video production and live performance. As a digital producer in a world currently integrating into an emerging digital asset economy, this work’s conceptual nature also marks a pivot for myself into blockchain applications, where I will be exploring exciting new technologies like decentralised Web3.0, cryptocurrency and NFT's (Non-Fungible-Tokens) that will also inform the work’s final forms and opportunities for audience equity in it.” - Faiumu Matthew Salapu No reira e te whānau, tune in to hear us deep dive into: - how we can lay a cultural foundation in the blockchain / metaverse that will be a touchstone for our rangatahi who will inevitably end up in this space. - the kaupapa of RESAMPLE TATAU and how he intends to use blockchain / NFT technology to weave in with his art form and communicate it to the world. - how NFTs might influence or change the music industry. - how these technologies can help us connect more with our ahurea / culture and our homelands.

Blockchain Navigators | Wānanga NFT with Chelsea Terei E te whānau, as I’m sure a lot of you have noticed, I’ve been dipping my feet into the massive moana of the NFT world. It’s a really new space in terms of art, photography, collecting, trading, blockchain and the metaverse that is puuumping and I really believe it is going to be around for a long time. Since it’s such a new space to so many, (including myself) I wanted to follow on from our yarns last week with @richietoamills have a wānanga with my mate @chelsea_terei on her journey in the NFT space. Not only is she a badass Māori Lawyer, she’s one of the founders of the amazing @tukau_legacy kaupapa alongside our mate @seasonmary and has been cracking it the NFT trading game. She’s got really good insights into the NFT Blockchain community and how to find projects that have good potential, how to research them as well as how to stay safe in the space with your investments. I’m excited to be having this kōrero with her tomorrow where we’ll be yarning about a range of things NFT including: * NFT starter pack - what things do you need to start up / get organized to be able to purchase and trade NFTs. * How to research different projects and find those with good potential. * Why she got involved in NFTs and why it could be an exciting space for more Māori to get into. * Some of her favourite projects (including some of these pictured) that are blowing up right now. * Safety, things to look out for and how to avoid potential pitfalls.

Nau mai e te whānau, have a sit down with Richie and I and listen in on our yarns about NFTs, the metaverse, digital art and more. He’s done a massive deep dive into this kaupapa over the past 6 months and is one of the bros who introduced me to NFTs in the first place. He has been a tuakana for me in this kaupapa and I’m stoked to be able to have a kōrero with him. We wānanga about a range of things NFT including: *What is an NFT? *How do they fit in the metaverse? (And what is the metaverse?) *Why get involved in NFTs? *Profile Pic Projects such as Bored Ape Yacht Club, Crypto Punks, Prime Apes, our very own @graffgrems by @tehaunuiart and others. Why people get into them and how they work. * Safety, things to look out for and how to research a project. And finally, the space that I’m wanting to get into: * photography in the NFT space.
