What started with childhood friends Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland has grown into a band with a global audience, a Brit Award and a new third member, Lydia Kitto. With Jungle's new record Sunshine out now, Josh, Tom and Lydia join Q guest host Talia Schlanger to talk about friendship, how the band has grown and why they’ve always preferred to let the music do the talking.

Acclaimed Toronto pianist Stewart Goodyear has been described as one of the finest pianists of his generation. In his new memoir, Tempted, Rick chronicles how a shy Italian Canadian kid from Hamilton, Ont., became one of this country’s most beloved VJs through sheer grit and positivity. But he also shares a revelation about the serious gambling addiction that was haunting him behind the scenes. Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs, The Father, The Remains of the Day) is best known as an Oscar-winning actor, but his first love was music. He’s just released a new album of his own compositions, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel with London’s Philharmonia Orchestra. Anthony joins Tom Power to talk about his lifelong connection to music, why this latest album was decades in the making, and why he says we should all stop thinking so much. English actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth practically grew up on the set of Son of a Critch. The CBC sitcom, based on Canadian actor and comedian Mark Critch’s memoir of the same name, stars Benjamin as a young, fictionalized version of Mark. Benjamin joins Tom Power to talk about the fifth and final season of the series, what he’s learned about his craft from his co-star Malcolm McDowell, and what it’s like to say goodbye to a show that’s been such a big part of his life. Amalie Atkins is a multi-disciplinary Saskatchewan-based artist whose first feature documentary, Agatha’s Almanac, is a love letter to “solitude, seeds, and slow living.” It tells the story of Amalie’s now 92-year-old aunt, Agatha Bock, who lives on her ancestral farm in southern Manitoba, where she spends her days cultivating her garden. The film looks at how Agatha lives a fiercely independent and intentional lifestyle that’s both free from modern technology and deeply rooted in nature. It’s been 10 years since the iconic Canadian band The Tragically Hip performed together for the last time with their fearless frontman and friend, Gord Downie. When acclaimed playwright, actor and theatre director Jovanni Sy went back to school a few years ago, he was told to direct something funny. He originally wanted to take on The Way of the World — William Congreve’s British Restoration comedy from 1700. But over time, that morphed into a modern-day, fast-paced Asian rom-com set in Singapore. It’s called The Tao of the World, and it opens at the Stratford Festival tonight. Named a “Rising Star” by Toronto’s Future of Film Showcase, she’s built a successful career performing in comedy clubs across North America and recently made her late-night debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She’s also written for the political satire series This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Following her keynote appearances at the Future of Film Showcase and Just For Laughs, Maddy joins Q guest host Garvia Bailey to talk about comedy, growing up in Vancouver, and what sets Canadian humour apart.

If you don’t know Dawoud Bey’s name, chances are you’ve seen his work. One of the most influential photographers working today, Dawoud rose to prominence through his powerful portraits of Black Americans and young people. In 2017, he shifted his focus from portraiture to landscape photography, exploring the history and legacy of African Americans in the Southern United States. Ahead of his new solo exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Dawoud joins Q guest host Garvia Bailey to talk about his artistic practice, his fascination with history, and the stories embedded in the landscapes he photographs.

When Meegwun Fairbrother first got wind of Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie reboot, the Ojibwe Scottish actor initially wasn’t hopeful. In his experience, historical dramas didn’t have room for mixed-heritage Indigenous characters who looked like him. Plus, the original series erased the Indigenous perspective entirely. But Meegwun quickly realized this production was doing something different. He tells Q guest host Garvia Bailey about his character, William Mitchell (an Osage family man, homesteader, and the bridge between two communities), and the deep pride he felt in working with Osage cultural consultants to finally get the story right.

Canadian actor, writer and musician Rebecca Auerbach has turned her acclaimed one-woman show into a new CBC podcast called Discount Dave (and the Fix). Based on a true-ish story, it starts with a chance encounter with a man claiming to be Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth, before spiraling into a deeper story about addiction, trauma and recovery. Rebecca sits down with Q guest host Gill Deacon to talk about blending memoir with fiction, and why telling this story was essential to her healing. Episode 1 of Discount Dave (and the Fix) is an official selection of the 2026 Tribeca Audio Festival. 

Reneltta Arluk grew up on a trapline in the Northwest Territories, living off the land with her grandmother and the legendary Arctic dog team guide Archie Larocque. Those nomadic early years shaped a career that took her from founding the first professional theatre company in the Northwest Territories to becoming the first Indigenous woman to direct at the Stratford Festival. Now a leader at the National Gallery of Canada, she joins guest host Gill Deacon to talk about carrying stories forward from the trapline to gallery walls. 

When Sarah Leavitt’s mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, she began documenting everything she could through drawings and writing. Those records became Tangles, her acclaimed 2010 graphic memoir, which was the first graphic narrative to be named a finalist for the Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction. Now, more than 15 years later, Tangles has been adapted into a film starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld, Veep), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and Wanda Sykes (The New Adventures of Old Christine). Sarah co-wrote the screenplay, and the film premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it received a lengthy standing ovation. Q guest host Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe caught up with Sarah to talk about it.

For his latest film, Canadian director Clement Virgo adapted the true story of a teenage girl who escapes the Antebellum South into an Afrofuturist fairytale. The film is called Steal Away and focuses on the relationship between a sheltered teenage girl named Fanny and a Black refugee named Cécile, who’s taken in by Fanny’s family. As their relationship deepens, obsession and jealousy arises, and picks at themes of class, immigration and womanhood. Clement stops by the Q studio to chat with guest host Garvia Bailey about why he wanted to challenge himself to tap into feminine energy to tell this story.

Ron Funches has built a career turning the things that once made him feel different into his greatest strengths. Once bullied in school for his soft and higher pitched voice, it’s now his trademark in standup, and helped launch his voice acting career. Ahead of a performance at Just for Laughs Montreal, Ron reflects on how fatherhood, his son’s autism diagnosis, and his own recent autism diagnosis after appearing on The Traitors, have changed his understanding of himself and the unique gifts that shape his comedy.

Michael Cloud Duguay and his collaborators toured rural towns in Newfoundland looking for something very specific to record: old organs in churches that are experiencing dwindling attendance. The result is a haunting album that serves both as rich sound art featuring the remaining organs of Newfoundland, but also as documentation of community, memory and faith — both religious and otherwise.

Zoe Whittall is constantly changing her writing. She’s written novels, short story collections, memoir, and TV. And now she’s switching genres again — to romance. But her first romance novel, Chasing Summer, comes with another change: her name. Zoe wrote this book under the pseudonym Frankie Scott. Tom Power talks to Zoe about how she’s constantly changing her writing style, her name, and even her life.

Rough Trade broke new ground and faced both censorship and acclaim. Now, a new documentary traces Carole’s story from shy, bookish adolescent to international queer icon. Carole tells Tom Power about her early days performing with Rough Trade in Toronto, their hit song High School Confidential, paving the way for artists like k.d. lang and Peaches, and why she’s so outspoken about the challenges of being an artist today.

Evanescence has released their sixth studio album, Sanctuary, and some fans are calling it their best work since their breakthrough record in 2003. Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee tells Tom Power about finding new creative energy within the band, taking artistic risks at this point in her life, and learning to fall in love again with the music that changed everything for her 23 years ago.

A new Canadian play is reimagining the ancient Greek myth of Medusa and giving the gorgon a voice. Oyin Oladejo is playing the snake-haired lead in the Toronto production of Medusa. Oyin joins Tom in the studio to talk about the play, and why this show stares deeply into female fury.

Gail Maurice wrote and directed her latest film, Blood Lines, with her hometown of Beauval, Saskatchewan, in mind. Some of the film's dialogue is spoken in Michif — a Métis language spoken fluently by fewer than 2,000 people — so Gail cast family and friends from her 700-person village, creating a deeply personal portrayal of her culture. She joins Tom Power in studio to discuss what it was like working in her language and casting her own mother to act alongside her.

Anna Lambe almost walked away from acting before landing her starring role in North of North. She had headed to Ottawa to study international development, deciding to focus less on acting and more on her activism for Indigenous rights. But it was the pull of North of North’s characters — with their genuine depth and nuance of Indigenous experiences — that finally brought her back to the screen. And as she explains to Tom Power in a special interview from Banff, none of her projects have felt more personal than this show and its current success.

After going viral in 2019, he’s managed to keep the success going with a string of hits that have landed him two Juno Awards, a slot on Jimmy Kimmel Live and the ability to tour the world. bbno$ joins Tom Power in studio to talk about how a rugby injury led to him starting his music career, the cost of being online all the time, and why he thinks his work resonates with audiences. 

The Canadian comedian Tom Green has been a huge presence in the comedy world for decades — from his cable-access days doing The Tom Green Show, to his almost 20 years in Los Angeles with his late-night at-home talk show, to his many stand-up tours and his movie Freddy Got Fingered. Now, Tom has a new series on Crave called The Tom Green Farm, where he interviews guests on his farm in rural Ontario. Tom (Green) joins Tom (Power) in the Q studio to talk about his long love of talk shows, getting back into skateboarding in his 50s, and what it takes to gain a mule's trust.
