  • 4 - Why Syria’s Coast is Erupting: The Alawites, Latakia and a Year of Silence

In this episode, we dive into the unfolding crisis on Syria’s coast and the demonstrations erupting in Latakia, Tartous and Homs. For one full year, crimes against civilians and the silence of the authorities pushed the Alawite community to a breaking point. We look at the murders that triggered the unrest, the twelve thousand former military personnel held in detention, and the growing fear inside Alawite areas that authorities in Syria are not protecting them. We also examine the online extremist incitement that targeted Latakia and the response from security forces.

This episode gives a clear and direct breakdown of why the Alawites in Latakia and the entire coastal region are now demanding accountability and change.

Syria News: Fear and Impunity on the Coast — Abductions, Raids, Silence

Syria News this week focuses on a disturbing pattern gripping Syria’s coastal communities: fear replacing law. We trace incidents affecting Alawite families across Latakia, Tartus, Banias, Homs, and Tall Kalakh—from a school-gate kidnapping to deadly street shootings and night raids that end with smashed homes and sectarian abuse.

Behind polished media narratives, accountability is missing. We revisit the silenced case of “Rawan”, the pursuit of two brothers that left one dead, the abduction of Mohammed Qais Haidar in front of classmates, the point-blank killing of a civilian in Homs, and coordinated arrests in Tall Kalakh that targeted one family.

Why does this matter? Because selective justice fractures the social fabric and turns impunity into policy. In this Syria News episode, we identify the pattern, map the geography, and outline the minimum steps to restore trust: protect civilians, investigate credibly, prosecute perpetrators—whoever they are—and end the climate of fear.
