Hull City are back in the Premier League and enjoying themselves - but can the Tigers keep the good times rolling?
It’s the first time Brentford have faced Hull since February 2020, just before the world went into lockdown. A lot of water has passed under both bridges since then
The Bees have gone from the Championship to the Premier League, while Hull have had their own ups and downs, including a spell in League One
Billy TheBee Grant catches up with Imo Prescott for the first time since the two clubs went their separate ways in the Championship
They shoot the breeze about the Allam era, Acun Ilıcalı’s arrival in 2022, Liam Rosenior’s sacking, Hull’s remarkable 2022/23 play-off campaign and that Championship play-off final victory over Middlesbrough in the aftermath of Spygate
They also look back at last season, run through Hull’s summer comings and goings, assess their start to life back in the Premier League and discuss manager Sergej Jakirović
Are Hull a well-organised side capable of staying up, or are they riding their luck? Which Bees players worry the Tigers, how Imo sees the game unfolding and, of course, a score prediction

Fri, 09 Oct 2026 - 1h 01min - 1816 - From League One To The Premier League | Beesotted Reloaded - The Years That Shaped Brentford
Whenever people talk about how well Brentford are doing in the Premier League, it’s easy to forget just how far the club has come.
Not so long ago, we were playing in the third tier. There was no Premier League football, no fancy new stadium and no worldwide attention. Just a club trying to find its way - and a whole load of twists, turns, disappointments and big decisions along the way
So we thought it was a good time to look back
Over the years, Beesotted has recorded some brilliant interviews and podcasts as these things were actually happening. We’ve gone back through the archives and pulled together 11 of those podcasts into a special series - Beesotted Reloaded: The Years That Shaped Brentford
You can check out the full series here, with links to all 11 episodes:
https://beesotted.com/beesotted-reloaded-the-years-that-shaped-brentford/
Some of the archive podcasts are also now available to watch in video format on Apple Podcasts, as well as being available as audio podcasts. So, where the video is available, you can actually see some of these conversations as they happened, rather than simply listening back to them
It’s a chance to revisit some of the moments and conversations that helped shape the club’s journey - from the heartbreak of that Doncaster match, promotion to the Championship and the plans for the new stadium, through the Uwe Rösler and Mark Warburton years, Matthew Benham’s arrival and vision, the creation of the B Team and eventually the arrival of Thomas Frank
And in this podcast, Billy and Laney look back across the series and discuss the podcasts, people and events that shaped this incredibly important period in Brentford’s history
They talk about what those old conversations tell us now that we know how the story turned out. Matthew Benham talking about the lessons he had learned and where he wanted to take Brentford. The changes to recruitment and the growing importance of data. The decision to scrap the traditional academy and create the B Team. The transition from Dean Smith to Thomas Frank. And the development of the ideas that would eventually become so central to Brentford’s success
They also revisit our conversations with Thomas Frank - including his involvement in recruitment, what frustrated him about the Brentford model, players who didn’t work out and whether the club ever regretted selling players such as John Egan and Romaine Sawyers
Frank also discussed the development of Josh Dasilva, the importance of the B Team, the players he thought could make the first team and those who might not quite make the step up
And then there’s the data - xG, statistics and the infamous “Justice League”. How much should you trust the numbers? And can Brentford just be top of the real table rather than the statistical one?
Looking back now, that’s what makes these old interviews so fascinating. They knew they were talking about important things at the time - but they didn’t know how the story was going to end
These were conversations recorded before Premier League football, before the worldwide recognition and before Brentford had become the established top-flight club we see today
They capture a club experimenting, taking risks, getting things wrong, learning from them and gradually working out what Brentford could become.
So this is Billy and Laney looking back at The Years That Shaped Brentford - and at the podcasts and conversations that captured that journey as it happened
If you want to go back through the whole series, all 11 podcasts - including the episodes now available to watch in video on Apple Podcasts - can be found here:

Wed, 07 Oct 2026 - 52min - 1815 - Spurs Smashed, Chelsea Bashed but The Numbers Say Brentford Are Still A Work In Progress | Beyond The Breakdown - Brentford Stats And Tactics
Beyond The Breakdown is back for its first episode of the new season, with Jacob "The Gowler" Gowler and Matt “The Allard” Allard diving into the stats and tactics behind Brentford’s unbeaten campaign so far
How good were Brentford against Spurs? Were Tottenham simply poor, or did the Bees completely dominate them? And what do the stats say about Sangaré’s impressive start?
Then it’s on to Leeds, where Brentford produced an excellent first half before things went wrong after the break. Sunderland also comes under the microscope - how did they disrupt Brentford, and what did Keith Andrews change at half-time?
Was Brentford lucky to escape Bournemouth with a point? And with Yarmoliuk, Jensen and Damsgaard all options at number 10, who plays when - and which option best suits different opponents and game situations?
Then there’s Chelsea - a brilliant 3-0 win, but were there still warning signs in an imbalanced attack and the problems defending down Brentford’s right wing?
The lads also look at what the stats tell us about Jannik Schuster and how he has settled into the Brentford side
Looking ahead, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Hull are next under the microscope - their strengths, weaknesses and where Brentford could cause them problems. And will Hull’s good fortune continue?
Plus - the all-important question...
How many points will Brentford pick up from the next three games?

February 2015. Brentford were flying in their first season back in the Championship and pushing for the play-offs. But behind the scenes, all was not quite as rosy as it looked
It had already been announced that manager Mark Warburton would leave Brentford at the end of the season, along with his assistant David Weir, following differences with owner Matthew Benham over the direction and footballing philosophy of the club
In this exclusive Beesotted interview, we sat down with Warburton and Weir to hear their side of the story - why they were leaving, their differences in philosophy, the incredible journey Brentford had been on and where they believed the club could go next
Listening back to the conversation from February 2015, knowing what happened to Brentford, Warburton and the club’s model in the years that followed, makes this a fascinating snapshot of one of the biggest turning points in Brentford’s recent history

April 2014. Preston came to Griffin Park for their annual Gentry Day, dressed up to the nines. Brentford were hoping for another important win in the promotion race - but very few Bees fans arrived that afternoon expecting to be celebrating promotion by the end of it
Alan Judge’s penalty gave Brentford the victory and, with results elsewhere going our way, suddenly it was official. Brentford were promoted to the Championship
And Beesotted was there to capture the celebrations
This brilliant video takes us from Griffin Park to the pub, chatting to owner Matthew Benham, manager Mark Warburton, CEO Cliff Crown, Sporting Director Alan McParland and a host of the players as everyone tried to take in what Brentford had just achieved

After the heartbreak of Doncaster and the play-offs just 12 months earlier, the Bees had come straight back and finished the job
Watching it again now, there’s something brilliant about seeing the owner, manager and players celebrating and chatting with supporters down the pub
Go back to the moments that helped change the club forever - the Doncaster heartbreak, promotion, Lionel Road, Warburton’s departure, Matthew Benham’s vision, the B Team and the arrival of Thomas Frank

December 2013. Brentford had bounced back from the previous season’s play-off heartbreak and, with Uwe Rösler still in charge, the Bees were once again flying in League One
But this was to become a night of huge change for Brentford – in more ways than one
Beesotted joined Bees fans down at Hounslow Civic Centre as local councillors prepared to vote on whether Brentford’s plans for a new stadium at Lionel Road would get the go-ahead
The decision came through. Brentford had the green light for a new stadium. A massive moment in the club’s history and something supporters had waited years for
But even as fans were celebrating, rumours were flying around that Uwe Rösler had been poached by Wigan Athletic. It took some of the gloss off a historic evening - and those rumours would soon prove to be true
Looking back at December 2013, it was an extraordinary night. Brentford had taken a huge step towards a new home, while at the same time preparing to lose the manager who had helped get the Bees moving forward on the pitch

May 2013. Just days after the heartbreak of losing to Doncaster on the final day of the 2012/13 season, Beesotted caught up with Brentford manager Uwe Rösler
With the Bees now facing the play-offs and supporters still coming to terms with what had happened at Griffin Park, Uwe had a simple message - stay positive
But he was also looking much further ahead, talking about his belief in the club, where Brentford could go and even suggesting that the Bees could become the “new Man City”
Listening back to Uwe’s words from May 2013 more than a decade later, with Brentford now established in the Premier League, some of what he had to say feels remarkably prophetic

April 27th 2013. The Final game of the season. Brentford played Doncaster at Griffin Park for a place in The Championship
Win and the Bees are promoted
With the score at 0-0 deep into injury time, Brentford are awarded a penalty. Fulham loanee Marcello Trotta steps up, hits the bar and, seconds later, Doncaster race up the other end and score to win promotion themselves
Raw footage and fan reaction from one of the most dramatic and heartbreaking finishes in Brentford history - but also a day which, looking back, arguably helped shape the Bees into the established Premier League force they are today

Fri, 02 Oct 2026 - 9min - 1809 - Chelsea Your Boys Took One Hell Of A Beating! Bees Still Buzzing After 3-0 Victory | Brentford v Chelsea Review Podcast
Billy ‘The Bee’ Grant and Dave ‘Laney’ Lane are back with another Beesotted podcast – and there’s so much to talk about after a memorable 3-0 victory against Chelsea.
A game of two very different halves… Chelsea arguably had the better of the first half, although xG had it even, but after the break the Bees absolutely owned it with Brentford celebrating a comprehensive victory.
We look at Schuster, Schade and the very Brentford way that produced the second and third goals, as the Bees turned the game around in style. And finally, after all that waiting, Thiago gets his goal.
But was 3-0 actually a fair reflection of the game? TalkSPORT’s Jason Cundy didn’t think so - so who really controlled the game, and did the scoreline tell the whole story?
We’ll get into all of that, before turning our attention to the EFL Trophy, where Brentford secured a 1-0 win away at Bromley. Ollie Shield was the hero, scoring with a left-footed strike from outside the box that found the bottom corner.
Now it’s international break time, with 14 Bees heading off on international duty. We’ll take a look at who’s away, where they’re going and the matches coming up.
Plus, there’s a brand-new Beesotted Prediction League - you can get involved at beesotted.footballscoreline.com and your chance to get your name in the new Brentford Remembered book via www.legendspublishing.net

It finishes Bournemouth 2, Brentford 2 at the Vitality after a hugely hard-fought afternoon that, by the end, had pretty much everything.
Brentford took the lead through Kevin Schade, only for Bournemouth to fight their way back into it, equalise and then go ahead early in the second half. But Schade wasn’t finished there. A wayward pass out from the Bournemouth goalkeeper fell straight to the Brentford forward, and he still had plenty to do — but he produced a brilliant finish to bring the Bees level once again.
From there, it became frantic. The game opened up, chances came at both ends and, in the closing stages, it really could have gone either way. Bournemouth will probably look back with the greater sense of frustration, having created a host of excellent opportunities that, on another day, should have been enough to win the game. But Brentford had their moments too, and by the final whistle it was a breathless, end-to-end finish with both sides throwing everything forward.
A point apiece, Brentford remain unbeaten, and Kevin Schade walks away with two very different goals and a rather large chunk of the afternoon’s headlines.
We spoke to the Brentford fans straight after the final whistle to get their thoughts

Before discussion the football, the lads reflect on their World Cup adventures with The Gowler watching England play Congo in Atlanta and they discused England's heavyweight clash with Argentina
Then it's back to Brentford with a comprehensive statistical review of the 2025-26 campaign. As we delve into Brentford's 2025-26 campaign, what do the numbers really tell us? Do the underlying stats back up what we saw with our own eyes, or do they paint a very different picture? The Gowler and The Allard analyse expected points, expected goals, big chances and open-play attacking numbers to ask whether the underlying data backs up supporters' concerns. The discussion also covers penalties, deep passes, passing metrics, out-of-possession performance and the core principles that defined the Bees' season
Attention then turns to the squad, with individual player analysis including Michael Kayode's impressive xG Build-Up contribution, Mikkel Damsgaard's drop-off, whether Igor Thiago's numbers flatter to deceive, and if Yehor Yarmoliuk is one of Brentford's most underappreciated performers
The Gowler and The Allard also discuss what they'd like to see from Keith Andrews' side this coming season, where Brentford still need to strengthen before the transfer window closes, and take a statistical look at new arrivals Jaidon Anthony and Callum Wilson
Plus, they debate the rumours linking Jordan Henderson with a move to Chelsea and what that could mean for Brentford's plans

Tue, 09 Jun 2026 - 39min - 1783 - How The Bees Survived The Summer Chaos | Brentford Manager Keith Andrews Talks to Beesotted | Part 1
The season is over
Brentford came within a cat’s whisker of embarking on a European tour next season. It was close, but ultimately no cigar. Yet when you consider that plenty of pundits, bookmakers and rival fans had the Bees tipped for a relegation battle before a ball was kicked, finishing 9th in the Premier League - equalling the club’s highest-ever top-flight finish - represents another remarkable achievement
With the dust settling on the season, Beesotted sat down with Brentford Head Coach Keith Andrews for a wide-ranging and candid conversation recorded at the One Over The Ait pub
At the start of the season, Andrews could barely escape the "free-kick coach" label. Nine months later, he's guided Brentford to another top-half Premier League finish and established himself as his own man in the dugout. This conversation offers a fascinating insight into the thinking, personality and decision-making of a coach who faced plenty of challenges during his first season in charge
Keith discusses Thiago, World Cup call-ups, his journey from pundit to Brentford coach, his passion for Ireland and Irish football, and the pride he takes in helping develop the next generation of players and coaches
He also opens up about Yoane Wissa’s decision not to play for Brentford at the start of the season, dealing with the upheaval and uncertainty that surrounded the club during the summer, the opening-day defeat against Forest that left many supporters fearing the worst, what went wrong away at Fulham, the memorable victory over Manchester United, and his reflections on a first season that ultimately exceeded most expectations
As with any honest football conversation, some questions are answered directly, others are explored in greater depth, and a few remain open to interpretation. But throughout the interview, Andrews provides genuine insight into the challenges, pressures and rewards of leading a Premier League football club with small budget

Sat, 25 Apr 2026 - 1h 25min - 1771 - Schade In Focus, Mbeumo On Fire & Europe’s Hidden Cost | Beyond The Breakdown - Brentford Stats And Tactics
Beyond the Breakdown is back with Jacob ‘The Gowler’ Gowler and Matt ‘The Allard’ Allard getting properly stuck into the detail after a busy run of games.
First up, a forensic look back at the Everton and Fulham matches – from Everton’s super narrow shape trying to shut the Bees down, to Fulham’s in-game tweaks that shifted the momentum. The lads dig into the numbers behind Brentford’s finishing too – what’s going right, what’s not, and whether the data backs up what we’re seeing with our eyes
There’s also a proper stat attack on those late goals – just how often are the Bees conceding after 90 minutes, and is it a trend or just bad luck?
Kevin Schade goes under the microscope as well. The Gowler pulls out the key metrics, while the pair chat tactics, roles, and what tweaks could get him more involved and more effective in this Brentford setup
Then it’s onto the bigger picture – European football. What actually happens to Premier League teams when they qualify? The research, the impact on league form, and how UEFA’s stricter profitability and sustainability rules could shape decision-making
And the big question – is a season WITHOUT Europe actually better for the Bees?
Finally, a look ahead to the next three fixtures. Manchester United and a focus on Bryan Mbeumo’s season so far, West Ham and how Nuno’s tactical approach might be exposed, and Manchester City – where, if anywhere, are the chinks in the armour?
Stats, tactics, and proper football chat – this is Beyond the Breakdown

Billy TheBee Grant is in the stands and pubs chatting to Bees fans straight after a frustrating but hard-fought West London derby that ended goalless
Brentford will feel they should have nicked it - creating the better chances, especially late on, but denied by a stunning stoppage-time save from Fulham keeper Bernd Leno
The Bees had the only real threat on goal across the 90, with Fulham failing to register a shot on target, but just couldn’t find that finishing touch.
Fans give their take on a game that had intensity and needle but lacked quality in the final third, with talk turning to missed opportunities, another draw on the board, and what this means for Brentford’s European push as the season heads into the final stretch .

Wed, 08 Apr 2026 - 1h 08min - 1765 - Rico v Lewis-Potter, Late Goals and Bees’ Europe Push | Beyond The Breakdown - Brentford Stats And Tactics
Jacob ‘The Gowler’ Gowler and Matt ‘The Allard’ Allard go deep into the numbers and tactics behind Brentford’s recent run and what’s coming next.
They kick things off by reviewing their predictions from the Brighton, Burnley and Bournemouth matches - what they got right, what they didn’t, and what the data says in hindsight.
Then it’s into the detail - a full statistical and tactical breakdown of the Wolves and Leeds games, including game state swings, patterns of play and where Brentford controlled (and lost control of) matches.
One key question under the microscope - do Brentford concede more goals just before or after half-time or late in the game? The numbers suggest a fairly even split, with slightly more goals conceded in the second half (0.71 vs 0.65 per game), hinting at late-game vulnerability
There’s also a proper data-led debate on Rico Henry versus Keane Lewis-Potter at left back - what do the metrics say about defensive solidity, progression and attacking output?
Looking ahead, the pod previews the next three fixtures, asking whether Everton and Fulham are overperforming, and digging into Manchester United’s tactical approach under Carrick
They finish up by predicting points The Bees will pick up from the next three games while asking the big question - where will Brentford finish this season? With European qualification spots potentially extending further down the league table than usual, the race is very much on

Tue, 17 Feb 2026 - 28min - 1751 - Arsenal Disrupted. Villa Exposed. Newcastle Conquered. | Beyond The Breakdown - Brentford Stats And Tactics
Beyond The Breakdown is back with Jacob The Gowler Gowler and Matt The Allard Allard - and this week the focus is firmly on Arsenal
They examined the job Keith Andrews has done and how his philosophy is now fully embedded in this Brentford side. The main event, though, is that incredible performance against Arsenal - a display that disrupted their title charge and, on another day, should absolutely have delivered all three points
The lads go deep on the tactical detail - Keane Lewis-Potter’s disciplined defensive role, how Brentford repeatedly played through Arsenal’s press, Van den Berg’s standout display, and what Collins being benched again tells us
There’s analysis of the smash-and-grab at Villa Park too - exposing the high line and soft man-marking - before a proper deep dive into the statement win at St James’ Park. The Ouattara and Lewis-Potter switch, the in-game shift to 4-4-2, Tonali’s early freedom and how it was curtailed, plus the stats that show Brentford earned every bit of it
Finally, they run the numbers on Brighton, Burnley and Bournemouth. Are these favourable fixtures? Why do Brentford always seem to get the better of Bournemouth? And how many points are realistically on the table?
Stats. Tactics. Big calls. Proper Breakdown

Sat, 14 Feb 2026 - 45min - 1750 - Phoenix Rising - Can The Silkmen Stun the Bees? Macclesfield v Brentford FA Cup Preview
This week’s Beesotted Pride of West London podcast sees Billy TheBee Grant looking ahead to Brentford’s FA Cup trip to Macclesfield - with memories still lingering of their recent giant-killing shock against Crystal Palace. The question hanging in the air - could the Bees be next?
Billy spoke to Macclesfield fan Ellie Thomason to get the full lowdown on the Silkmen and what Brentford fans should expect from this cup tie.
Elle talked us through the emotional backdrop of the club. She reflected on the collapse of Macclesfield Town in 2020 and how painful that period was for supporters, referencing the chaotic final months which included the Sol Campbell era. For many fans, losing their club overnight left lasting scars.
She explained how the rebirth as Macclesfield FC has brought huge pride back to the town. While older supporters haven’t forgotten what happened, the phoenix club has created a renewed sense of connection between fans and ownership, with a strong community feel around matchdays and a club that feels more grounded and unified.
On the pitch, Elle highlighted Macclesfield’s strong league form and the confidence running through the side. She picked out key players Brentford fans should keep an eye on and spoke about their FA Cup run so far, which has built real belief around the place.
When the draw paired them with the Bees, Elle admitted it was excitement first and foremost - a big occasion, a big gate and a chance to test themselves against Premier League opposition.
We also discussed the manager John Rooney - Wayne Rooney’s brother — and the added intrigue that brings. Elle gave insight into how the team sets up, what kind of game Brentford can expect tactically and atmospherically, plus where travelling Bees fans can grab a drink before kick-off including The Jolly Sailor, The Fountain and Red Willow

Sat, 17 Jan 2026 - 36min - 1737 - Chelsea Match Preview Interview with Talksport’s Jason Cundy and Beesotted
Well this interview went #TeamsLike Brentford very quickly
Billy “The Bee” Grant appeared on Talksport's The Sports Bar with Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara to preview the upcoming Chelsea v Brentford match. It turned into one of the more awkward previews, with loosely structured questions and a fair bit of attempted rage-baiting as Jason Cundy repeatedly framed it as “small club Brentford” taking on “big club Chelsea” - despite Brentford sitting above Chelsea in the table and having beaten them three times at Stamford Bridge in the past four seasons
Not an easy interview at all but Billy navigated the line of questioning, setting the tone for a lively and occasionally chaotic build-up to the match

The Black Cats have been one of the stories of the season, surprising plenty with their spirited return to the top flight. Henderson vs Janelt, Thiago vs Wissa & Beating Spurs | Beyond the Breakdown
The Brentford Tactical and Statistical Lowdown
Jacob The Gowler Gowler and Matt The Allard Allard dive deep into Brentford’s recent performances and what they reveal about where the Bees really are right now
The podcast kicks off with a Wolves and Bournemouth double-header, focusing on the re-shaped midfield. How did Brentford generate such a high level of xG, and is the rising xGA something to genuinely worry about or simply a by-product of how the games unfolded?
There’s a proper debate on whether the Bees actually look better without Jordan Henderson, backed up by a Janelt vs Henderson stats comparison. The numbers come out again as Thiago and Wissa go head-to-head in a detailed performance analysis
Looking ahead, the lads preview Tottenham, including a tactical theory on how to beat Thomas Frank’s evolving hybrid press, before rounding things off with previews of Everton and Sunderland
Stats, tactics and plenty to chew over — this one’s for the nerds and the terrace philosophers. 🐝
