The Encourage Project podcast shares the work of Amy A. Fairchild, PMP and her guests and discusses the “how to”s of applying world-class project management practices to what she refers to as “human projects” (for example, weight loss, changing jobs, or buying a home). Organizations have known for years the value project manage provides – efficiency, focus, excellence in execution. Amy takes more than 25 years of project leadership experience, combines it with her leadership development and performance background (music and comedy), and connects people with their visions and the exciting, beautiful and sometimes messy process of how to achieve them.

Mon, 9 May 2022 - 58min - 67 - 066 | Human Projects Part 3 - Reflect (& Adjust)
In this final episode of the 3-part series on the Human Project Framework, I share the “Reflect” phase of the framework. I discuss how reflection is so much more than a replay of things you’ve done, and I outline the benefits of intentional reflection. I then discuss, step by step, a reflection approach I use when looking at the progress of my own human projects. Finally, I walk you through what’s next. Reflection has its greatest impact when it arms us with information to adjust our plans and ignite our continued action. If you’re feeling a little scattered or uninspired, reflection might just be in order. I invite you to get curious!

Finally, I share mindset shifts to consider as you create momentum. If you haven’t moved on your vision since you outlined your plan, this is your sign (along with the tools) that you have everything you need to act. Let’s go!

Mon, 28 Feb 2022 - 37min - 62 - 061 | Nightmare On Main Street ft. Kathi McCarty
This episode is a slightly different groove than what you may be accustomed to from The Encourage Project. While there is definitely a story of someone with a vision to take impactful action, the story hits so close to home (literally), it might shock you. I encourage you to get curious about where you live – and what else might be “living” with you. Listen in! Kathi McCarty is a mom, activist, and founder of Meth Toxins Awareness Alliance. After experiencing a serious health issue, Kathi could not return to her position leading a large bank branch, so she decided to rent her family home as a means to offset her medical costs. What seemed like a sensible solution turned into her worst nightmare when her beautiful home was rented to a meth head by an irresponsible and unethical property management company. The tenant turned her house into a meth lab, contaminating her home while putting her neighbors and her entire community at risk. Kathi has turned the mess into a mission to raise awareness and educate people about the insidious presence of meth toxicity in our homes and lives. So much of how we show up in the world is influenced by how we are raised. Obviously! Listen, like, and share what you think. As a Parent coach, Christian Vinceneux helps anxious and exhausted neurodivergent families to thrive. Mon, 31 May 2021 - 49min - 32 - 031 | More Than Yes And ft. Eric Farone
A few years back I tackled my human project of learning the art of comedy. I took a wonderful series of classes at the Bovine Metropolis Theater in Denver, Colorado and wound up performing improv! I went on to study stand-up, and I debuted on the Bovine stage. And while learning improv and stand-up was a super-fun and enriching experience, it is how I learned to apply those lessons in different ways that has made the most impact – in my career, in my relationships, in my human projects. I recently sat down with one of the founders of the Bovine, Eric Farone. Eric is an improv director with decades of successful experience in getting improv groups to work at the highest levels. In 1996 Eric, along with his partner Denise Maes, opened the Bovine Metropolis Theater in Denver. The theater was the largest improv training center in the Rocky Mountain region for over 20 years. Currently Eric is a partner at Apixii ~ Applied Improvisation where he now focuses on getting professionals, groups and teams to be more improvisational in their approaches. Well, this episode is the scariest I have ever done! In honor of Mother’s Day, I sat down with my little mom, Linda Kearbey, to talk lessons, wisdom and embarrassing stories. My mom is by far the best human I know. She is kind and loving and super creative – funny, driven and curious. When she gives me “the look”, to this day, she scares me. She loves every one of my friends as one of her own kids, and now, you get to be one of her kids too! The stories are true. I’ll get over my embarrassment. And when she says she wants to hear from you, she means it. Enjoy! Thanks for a great episode, Little Mom. I love you millions! Mon, 26 Apr 2021 - 49min - 27 - 026 | Life Can Be Delicious ft. Heidi & Natalie of Butter Your Macros
Diet culture. What a crazy thing! Every year people spend billions of dollars on pills and teas and packaged meals and programs in search of essentially one thing – peace. Peace with food. Peace with their bodies. We have been conditioned to ignore what our bodies tell us and instead focus on whatever quick fix will help us shed pounds and solidify happiness. I for one was tired of working so hard, only to be hangry all the time and hate the journey. Shedding pounds? Yeah, kinda. Happiness? Nowhere in sight. Then I got curious. What if I listened to my body and explored things that felt overall good to me? Enter Butter Your Macros. Heidi Bollard and Natalie DuLaney have put their shine on the science of counting food macronutrients (“macros”). They are engaging and smart and fun, and their insights are direct, fresh and doable! We had so much fun talking everything macros. Listen in! Mon, 8 Mar 2021 - 22min - 22 - Grace and Greatness ft. Brad Jensen
I get asked a lot about a certain type of human project – weight loss. Maybe it is because I have lost almost 100 pounds, but I think it is because I know there is so much more to losing weight than simply managing a calorie deficit! Brad Jensen knows weight loss and so much more! The founder of Key Nutrition, Brad and I had a great conversation talking about what it really takes to make long-term, sustainable change (in health and fitness or any area of life). Brad’s passion for the fitness industry started when he was 14 years old. The minute he picked up his first fitness and nutrition magazine, he knew that it was what he was born to do. He became NASM and ACE certified so he could understand all parts of fitness and nutrition. That knowledge and passion inspired him to help others. It also helped him transition through some of the darkest times of his life. Brad is not only a fitness addict. He is a dad to his sweet baby boy Dominic and a dog dad to fur babies Champion and Chief. He is funny and engaging and so insightful, and I had a blast talking with him. Join us! In this episode: - Surround yourself with people who support your vision - Morning routines - Happy is not the destination; it is along the way - You have skills already! Frankly, there are tidbits for anyone who wants to improve their relationships overall. Join me as I share my human project of becoming a better dater. I share where I was in life when I finally said, “Enough is enough!” And I walk you through how I took a frustrating, overwhelming part of my life and created a project to improve my skills, increase my confidence and skyrocket my contentment. Mon, 22 Feb 2021 - 55min - 20 - 019 | Believe in Yourself ft. Paul "Anvil" O'Keefe
Every human project is so different! And there are just some things a person must do when they tackle one. It is unavoidable. Paul “Anvil” O’Keefe served me that staunch reminder! Paul is the son of an Air Force Chief Master Sergeant and his self-taught “executive chef” wife. While Paul says he was a D+ student through all 5 years of high school, he has tackled some extraordinary projects. An Air Force veteran himself, Paul proudly served 10 years, including 4 deployments to the Middle East. He is a former MMA heavyweight fighter who went on to tackle a philanthropic endeavor – taking a 5-man team on a 22-miles-a-day ruck march from San Diego, California to Washington, D.C. to support wounded warriors. Now an entrepreneur and talented jewelry designer, he is the co-owner of MetalUrgency – and my new friend. He pulls no punches (pun intended), and he does it with warmth and heart. Take a listen! In this episode: - Know what is right for YOU - Nobody sees your journey; they just see the result - Get a plan - Every goal (plan) can be broken into “baby steps” - Everything is NOT instant - We all have something to contribute Connect with Paul: - Instagram – @_the_anvil_ - Facebook – @anvilokeefe - MetalUrgency – soulmetalworks.com Continue the conversation with Amy and The Encourage Project community! - www.theencourageproject.com - Facebook – @theencourageproject - Instagram – @the_encourage_project - LinkedIn – linkedin.com/in/amy-a-fairchild-she-her-hers-pmp-03b7022 - Email – hello@theencourageproject.com Special thanks to my producer Connor Reed and the band Suite 25 (check them out on Spotify)!

I occasionally meet someone whose energy is so magnetic that I just want to spend hours listening to them and drinking in their wisdom and light. Diane M. Simard is one of those people! Take a listen, and you will hear her shine! Recognized as one of the 100 inaugural “National Women in Business to Watch” by BizWomen.com, Diane M. During treatment, she kept a journal of her experience, which she published as a memoir, The Unlikely Gift of Breast Cancer. The book was recently named one of the “Best Breast Cancer Books of All Time” by Book Authority, and Diane was featured on the cover of Breast Cancer Wellness magazine for her advocacy work to bring more attention to the psychological impact of cancer. Mon, 21 Dec 2020 - 37min - 13 - 012 | Action and Accountability
Action is great! It demonstrates progress and creates momentum in your human project. But action without accountability is kind of like a map without any markings; you might be able to tell where you are, but you will have no idea whether you are headed in the right direction! Accountability sets us up for getting the most out of reflection. It is critical for our growth through the challenges of any human project. Mon, 7 Dec 2020 - 28min - 12 - 011 | Why Not Me? ft. Joy Clausen-Soto
Joy Clausen-Soto and I “met” quite by accident. We connected on LinkedIn (neither of us remembers who contacted whom), and I got curious. A few weeks and a couple of emails later, I spent a wonderful hour talking with this incredible woman about her story of dream jobs, struggle and telling a different story. So many nuggets for The EP community about human projects! More on Joy… When Joy was twenty-four years old, she decided to leave her dream job working with dolphins to pursue a career in filmmaking. Three months into film school, Joy was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a blood cancer, and had to drop out of film school. Everything she knew changed, but one thing remained constant. . . the camera. Joy recorded everything, from her first diagnosis of cancer with a high survival rate to the changed diagnosis of a more aggressive type of cancer with a lower survival rate. Joy didn't let the cancer diagnosis end her dreams of becoming a filmmaker. She was able to find a way to maintain control over her story during a time in her life when she had very little control. Joy founded the annual Children's Hospital dolphin interaction at SeaWorld San Diego. She has inspired people to find ways to get back control of their lives and to pursue their dreams. Joy has shared her story on the TEDx stage, ABC, NBC, FOX News, Telemundo, Univision, and KPBS. You have a vision, and you mapped out a plan. What is keeping you from jumping? It is perfectly normal to hesitate when it comes time to act on our human projects. It is also normal to experience fear. It is how we confront fear and move through the hesitation that help us fall in love with the process – and lead us to the glorious outcomes on the other side! It all starts with a decision.
