Dr. Vikram (Vik) Sood is an Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical School. Vik completed his undergraduate degree, medical school, and surgical training all at the University of Michigan. He is a member of the pediatric heart surgery group at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Dr. Jennifer Andrews is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Pathology at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Seth Sullivan is 32 years old and lives in Wichita, Kansas. 8 years ago, after an intense CrossFit workout he had “coca-cola” brown urine. Seth had served in the United States Marine Corps, so he went to the VA emergency room. Extremely high myoglobin levels indicated rhabdomyolysis and he needed IV fluids to prevent further kidney damage. McCall Jensen is 21 years old from Ramsey, New Jersey and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 4. She used insulin by injections prior to using a pump in 4th grade. As of 2 months ago, she now uses a closed loop system also known as an artificial pancreas. Heather Fountaine is 37 years old from Salt Lake City, Utah and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 13. She has used different types of insulin through the years and she has continued to use injections to this day. Dr. Ananda Basu is the Harrison Professor of Medicine in the division of Endocrinology at the University of Virginia. He received his MD from the Jawaharlal Institute in Pondicherry, India. He trained in endocrinology in Birmingham, England. He completed his fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Basu was part of the Mayo faculty until 2011 and has been at UVA since. Jordy Gibbons is 24 years old from Buena Vista, Virginia and was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in October of 2019. Jordy is a senior at Southern Virginia University majoring in art and he plays guitar in a band called Bird Club. Ewing’s sarcoma is a rare form of cancer that takes place in the bones. Jordy’s sarcoma was stage 4 when he was diagnosed. He went through 14 cycles of chemotherapy then standard radiation therapy. Currently, Jordy is free of treatment with consistent monitoring. Dr. Tyler Rouse is the creator and host of the Legends of Surgery Podcast. Smith Professor in Molecular and Genetic Medicine, and Professor of Pathology and Genetics at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He received his AB degree in mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley. He received his PhD in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He did training at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England as a fellow. Kathryn had grade 3 stage 2b triple-positive (ER, PR, HER2) breast cancer which in general is more aggressive than other breast cancers and requires additional chemotherapy treatment. After surgery, a year of chemotherapy, and additional radiation therapy, Kathryn has been breast cancer free. Ricky Stafford is from Orem, Utah and was diagnosed with leukemia as a freshman in high school. Ricky has a rare form of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) called Philadelphia Chromosome Positive ALL (Ph+ALL). After chemotherapy and ponatinib, Ricky was in remission, then two years later, Ricky’s cancer relapsed. Derek Brown was elected to the Utah House of Representatives and served there from 2010-2013. He served as Chief Counsel to Senator Robert Bennett (UT) then later to Senator Orrin Hatch (UT). He served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Utah State Director to Senator Mike Lee (UT). Prior to politics he practiced law for the international law firm of Sidley and Austin. He is an adjunct professor at Brigham Young University. He currently is campaigning for Chairman of the Utah Republican Party.
