Lotti Brinks is a professional trail runner for Salomon living in Boise, ID. Originally from Germany, Lotti came to the States to study design and now operates design consultancy with her husband, Aaron. In the past couple years, Lotti has established herself as one of the great young rising stars in the sport. Last year she won the Grindstone 100k, a Golden Ticket race, earning her way into the 2024 Western States 100. This season, Lotti won The Big Alta 50k and the Gorge Waterfalls 100k, continuing the incredible momentum in her athletic career. This is her first appearance on the podcast.

Jasmin Paris is a veterinarian, mom, and ultrarunner from Edinburgh, Scotland. Last week she became the 20th person and first woman ever to finish the Barkley Marathons, a legendary endurance challenge in Frozenhead State Park in Wartburg, Tennessee. Finishing in a time of 59:58:21, Jasmin barely completed the course under the 60hrs cutoff, inspiring thousands of people around the world. We go deep on the Barkley performance in this podcast.

Jeshurun Small is a pro trail runner for Adidas TERREX living in Boulder, CO. Jeshurun popped on my radar after his 2nd place finish at the Canyons 50k in April where he gave all-time great Hayden Hawks a run for his money at the North American UTMB Major for 50k. This is the inaugural year of Freetrail’s daily morning show, kicking off with the 20th anniversary of the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB), the most important global event in the sport of trail running. The show is hosted each day by professional athlete, Dylan Bowman.

Dylan is joined on Day 4 by Katie Asmuth and Majell Backhausen, two of the kindest, most charismatic individuals in the sport.

Katie is in Chamonix for the first time, and Maj is back for his third go at racing UTMB this week.

They watch OCC live and talk about the field, and then shift gears to preview the CCC course and key players.

Sage joins us fresh off his race at TDS, which he finished last night. TDS is now nearly 100 miles and 28,000 feet of climbing, the trails are very technical, and it was even more challenging with the weather. They talk about his pulmonary embolism, his overall health and how he’s feeling physically. Welcome to Day 2 of Good Morning, Mont Blanc. This is the inaugural year of Freetrail’s daily morning show, kicking off with the 20th anniversary of the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB), the most important global event in the sport of trail running. The show is hosted each day by professional athlete, Dylan Bowman.

Dylan is joined on Day 2 by three incredible individuals: Topher Gaylord, Keith Byrne and Doug Meyer. Topher was instrumental in founding the UTMB and has been around since the very beginning. Today, he is still the highest placing American male in the UTMB, placing 2nd in 2003. Keith has been at UTMB since 2004 where he has held many roles at the race including, most recently, leading the race commentary. Doug Meyer wrote the book, The Race That Changed Running: The Inside Story of UTMB, and has been privy to many of the important stories behind this race over the years.

They discuss how Topher helped identify and join the UTMB as the founding sponsor when he was leading The North Face in Europe in the early 2000s and why he knew it was going to become one of the best races in the world.

Keith has a longstanding relationship with Catherine and Michael Poletti and pulls the curtain back on their dynamic. UTMB has been a passion project for the Polettis and, as Keith says, they have always focused on their values and what they believe is the spirit of trail running. The team discusses some of the disagreements and controversies that have grown from the race and how things need to shift to keep up with the developing sport and world.

Topher and Keith also discuss what it was like being part of The North Face family in the early days of race sponsorship. The race connected and created bonds with their work family that endure today.
