Tonight, on Trackside, it’s championship week! IndyCar descends on Nashville Superspeedway for the season's final race and determines who will be the IndyCar champion. Kevin and Curt talk about all the championship scenarios. They also preview some of the special things they will do on the final NBC IndyCar broadcast. They also address the battery issue with Palou during the Milwaukee race, and some championships of the past. They also talk about Scott McLaughlin’s push-to-pass penalty taking him out of the championship race early, and Will Power’s losing 10 points because of the push-to-pass debacle. 

Later, Kevin and Curt talk about what lineup Chip Ganassi Racing will have in 2025 with the new charter system. They talk about where Marcus Armstrong will go, and where Alexander Rossi will be next season. Sting Ray Robb is also brought up, and how he and Rossi may go to the same team because Peter Rossi manages both drivers. 

To round out the first hour, Kevin previews the next hour. 

In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about the talent of Linus Lundqvist, and where he will be in 2025. They also go down the list of some of the other drivers who are looking for open seats and where they could be racing in 2025. They mention Valteri Bottas and his comments about possibly coming to IndyCar. They also talk about Kyle Larson returning next year to do the double. Tony Kanaan will be the relief driver if Larson must leave the race to go to Charlotte. They also pay respect to Paul Goldsmith.  

Later, they talk about the success of Milwaukee, how Nashville will race, and the new charter system.

Tonight, Kevin and Curt recap one of the most exciting and eventful IndyCar weekends of the year, as we break down the Milwaukee doubleheader. Kevin and Curt talk about the amount of fans present, and the energy around the event. They talk about how the drivers said there wouldn’t be any passes when there were lots. They talk about how a lot of the teams were as competitive as the leaders. Kevin answers some questions on Twitter. They discuss the lanes of the track, and how drivers were not afraid to use multiple lanes. They also talk about the controversy around Pato O’Ward, Mark Miles, and the race in Mexico. Curt provides some insight on the popularity of Adrian Fernandez in Mexico. 

Later, Kevin and Curt answer listener questions about team orders during the final race in the season, and if manufacturers will tell drivers to move or block for points purposes. They break down championship scenarios for Power and McLaughlin to pass Palou for the championship victory. They debate about Palou’s oval ability, and if he is guaranteed a top 10.

In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt delve into championship scenarios going into the season finale. They talk about McLaughlin’s ability to be a team player, and if he would get out of the way to help Power if he needed to. They talk about Ed Carpenter stepping out of the car for Milwaukee, and what the team’s lineup for next season will be. 

Later, Kevin and Curt talk about the start being waved off in race two, and the controversy around it. They give Rinus Veekay props for a good weekend, and some of the Andretti cars, and Juncos doing well. Kevin brings up Conor Daly and some of the sponsors he brings to Juncos, and if he moves the needle for teams.

Tonight, on Trackside, it’s a one hour show tonight, but there is still a lot to talk about! Kevin and Curt discuss the Portland GP, and Will Power’s dominating performance. They talk about what his career will be like moving forward, and Power’s involvement with training young drivers. Kevin makes the point that Penske will decide if they will let Power keep racing for them, not Will himself. They talk about Colton Herta’s use of the hybrid on pitlane and why that is against the rules, and the Dixon/Kirkwood collision, and if Kirkwood deserved the penalty, or Pietro Fittipaldi. They also go into detail about Grosjean’s crash and being held responsible for hitting two cars. 

Later, Kevin talks about Santino Ferrucci’s pole, and his overall performance, finishing 8th. Ferrucci also has 8 top 10s this season, when they only had one last season. They talk about Ferrucci going to Rahal and where Romain Grosjean will land, as his contract ends at the end of the season. Kevin highlights the lack of sponsorships on the Juncos-Hollinger car, and where Alexander Rossi will go.

Tonight, on Trackside, we talk about a very dramatic race at Gateway. Kevin and Curt break down all of the controversies and action that happened on and off track. They talk about the race not appearing on USA until lap 27, and the realities of being proceeded by live sporting events. They talk about the restart controversy with Josef Newgarden, and how restart zones work in the series, and how the rules define where you can restart a race from. The two propose solutions on how to fix the restarts. 

Later, Curt and Kevin talk about the state of the championship, and how lucky Alex Palou has been during this season, including his near miss of a crash at Gateway. The two answer questions about the lack of post-race interviews, and why they could not get the coverage in terms of interviews that they wanted, and how the red flag delay cut the post-race short. 

To round out the first hour, Kevin previews some of the topics that will be discussed in the next hour. 

In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt resume talks about the restart zone, and why IndyCar does not have an official zone that is marked on the track. They clear up questions about spinning wheels while on the jacks, and whether it is allowed. Kevin talks about the power of having two color commentators, and their opinions on things. They also talk about how good Newgarden is on ovals. They discuss whether Linus Lundqvist will have to find a new ride next season, as the team may drop to three cars. 

Later in the second hour, they talk about the situation at Prema, and who will be where, as well as some other stand out performances at Gateway, and Winners Circle points. Kevin Lee also talks about how he will be the official voice of IndyCar for the remainder of the NBC IndyCar races.

Tonight, on Trackside, there is a lot of silly season news as IndyCar heads into their first race back from the Olympic break at Gateway. Kevin and Curt talk about David Malukas going to AJ Foyt Racing. The two run down some other seats that are open, and what Malukas going to Foyt means for their lineup. Who will Malukas’ teammates be? Who’s bringing the budget? They talk about Malukas being in four teams in less than a year. They talk about the lineup at Dale Coyne for next year, and where Santino Ferrucci will go. 

Later, David Malukas joins the show to talk about his new deal with AJ Foyt Racing. He expresses his happiness to finally be solidified with a team, and how he will not let himself get injured again, including making some jokes with Curt and Kevin about going up stairs. He talks about how it will work with the Foyt team in Texas, but David wants to stay in Indy. He also talks about who his engineer may be. 

To round out the first hour, Kevin and Curt talk about the interview with Malukas, and some of the things David talked about, and their thoughts on the whole deal. They also talk about the schedule for Gateway. 

In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about an auction of some racing items that will support victims of the FedEx shooting in Indianapolis. They talk about the Alex Palou F1 rumors, and if they hold any water. Kevin talks about how Palou could take a risk and go for the F1 career, and why Audi might want Palou on the team. They also bring up the nature of Palou’s legal issues. 

Later in the second hour, Kevin and Curt talk about the controversial NASCAR finish involving Austin Dillon, and how NASCAR has seemingly allowed a driver to wreck someone else for the win, and how this is the only series that this could happen, and how NASCAR has no rules against what happened. Kevin talks about how people like chaos like that, and it encourages viral moments of the sport.

Tonight, on Trackside, we celebrate Gordon Johncock’s birthday, and preview the remainder of the IndyCar season, as well as some Olympics talk, including Cole Hocker’s gold medal run in the 1500. Hocker is from Indianapolis. They talk about the streaming power of Peacock, and how viewing numbers have been. They also briefly talk about the IMSA race last weekend. Kevin gives his insight on the Juncos Hollinger seat that has opened with Augustin Canapino departing from the team, and how Conor Daly drove his car at the test at World Wide Technology Raceway. 

Later, Kevin and Curt talk about a conversation Tony Stewart had with Jake Query, and his opinion that the Brickyard 400 should be run at night under the lights. The two debate about whether that would be good for in-person attendance, and if IMS would ever install lights. 

To round out the first hour, Kevin talks about baseball playing at Bristol Motor Speedway, and how something like that could happen at Indianapolis. 

In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about some of the best NASCAR races, and how NASCAR succeeded through mainstream television. Kevin brings up the question as to why IndyCar teams don’t have reserve drivers, and if we will see that change soon. They go over the history of reserve drivers in Indy, and when they were used most recently. They talk about the pricing of Venu Sports, and alternatives to paying for it, like buying an antenna. 

Later in the second hour, Kevin goes to the X Box to ask some listener questions. They answer a question about backup cars, and how most teams just opt to repair their primary car since backups do not have engines. They also answer a question about the Mario Andretti and AJ Foyt Trophies for the best oval and road course drivers, and why they went away. They bring up the possibility of racing at Richmond, and how fans have to show up for those races for them to return to the schedule.

Tonight, on Trackside, it’s the late-summer break in IndyCar. With the Olympics starting up, IndyCar won’t race again until mid-August. Kevin and Curt discuss having a holiday for teams and why a series-wide holiday hasn’t happened like in F1. They also talk about the reasoning behind why there wasn’t a Peacock only race during the Olympics. They talk about what Olympic sports they have been watching, and how some of the broadcasting techniques for the games would fit into motorsports. They go into the research that goes into the games, and how to make motorsports appealing to casual fans. They also delve into silly-season talks. 

Later, Kevin and Curt talk about the oval race in Nashville, and limiting car counts per team in Indy NXT. The two talk about how it is not ideal to have almost half the field racing under two teams. This makes it harder to field cars. They talk about the strength of team partnerships, and how limiting Indy NXT car counts can help the series flourish even more. They talk about requiring drivers to compete in Indy NXT before joining IndyCar full-time.

In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about the Prema Motosports opening a new shop in Fishers for the 2025 IndyCar season. They discuss Prema and what drivers they may hire for the coming season, including Logan Sargent and Alexander Rossi. They also talk about Rahal and sponsorship, and how much charters will sell for. 

Later in the second hour, Kevin talks about drivers who completed every lap in a season. He answers some listener questions, including returning to Texas, and those long gaps early in the schedule. He talks about how IndyCar leadership tries to tell people what is possible, but if something doesn’t happen, they get ripped for it. They also discuss the possibility of a return at Kentucky Speedway.

Tonight on Trackside, Kevin and Curt recap the race at Toronto, and Kevin’s rough travel schedule with technical difficulties keeping him seated on his plane for seven hours. They talk about how Kyle Kirkwood was the perfect teammate for Colton Herta this weekend, and how if Colton was second and Kirkwood was first, Herta might have been more aggressive at passing his teammate. They debate on whether the two teammates will be more competitive next time if this situation happens again, and they run through the field to talk about how Ganassi and Penske performed. They talk about the caution debacle that led to a huge pileup, and what IndyCar will do going forward. 

Later on, Curt and Kevin talk about how Alex Palou has pulled away in the championship standings, with a 48-point cushion going into the last few races of the season. Curt talks about how good Palou has been on ovals, and how consistent Palou has been with always getting top 5s. They talk about how it would require Palou to finish 18th or worse in two races for him to lose the championship.  

To round out the first hour, Kevin reads some listener tweets, and how Scott Dixon is Mr. IndyCar. He also answers a question about splitting up qualifying for cleaner laps. 

In the second hour of the show, the two talk about the Brickyard 400 and Kyle Larson’s win, and the controversy surrounding the finish. Conor Daly and Marco Andretti competed in the Brickyard weekend, and Kevin and Curt talk about how they performed. The two also provide an update on Alexander Rossi’s injury, and when he will be back in the car. They discuss the options McLaren could have had outside of Theo Pourchaire for this weekend, and some drama around Pourchaire’s comments about McLaren. They also talk about Oliver Askew being on-site but not racing, and why they chose Pourchaire. 

Later in the second hour, they talk about O’Ward and Palou during qualifying, and how Palou was penalized for impeding Pato’s lap. Kevin encourages the idea of single car qualifying, and how it would benefit teams and drivers. Curt brings up how that could cause issues timing wise, and prefers three groups.

Tonight, on Trackside with Kevin Leeand Curt Cavin, they talk about this past weekend’s IndyCar doubleheader at the Iowa Speedway with Team Penske continuing their dominance, but it wasn’t “The King of Corn Country”, Josef Newgarden, however his two teammates were victorious. Scott McLaughlin won the Hy-Vee Homefront 250 Saturday night for his first career oval win, while Will Power won the Hy-Vee One Step 250 Sunday night for his first win in Iowa. They talk about how the racing was subpar, especially for the new hybrid system, and how the crowd looked along with some revisions going throughout the speedway. They even talk about the crowd for the concerts from Luke Combs, Eric Church, Kelsea Ballerini, and Post Malone.  

Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin talks to Curt about how he benefited from watching the race from pit exit at Iowa from the broadcast this past weekend. They also talk about the late TV channel change from the Saturday night to CNBC as the world reacted to the assassination attempt of former President, Donald Trump. 

To wrap up the first hour of the program, Kevin talks about some stats from the Iowa Speedway, previews the second hour of the show, including the Brickyard weekend on the return to the oval for the NASCAR Cup Series, and more racing at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. 

To start the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt go through questions on Twitter, starting with how the Indy NXT Championship could play out, weather affecting the streets of Toronto, Hailie Deegan in the Indy NXT paddock, and more questions with the hybrid system.

Tonight on a Wednesday edition of Trackside, Curt and Kevin recap an exciting race at Mid-Ohio. They also preview the HyVee IndyCar Weekend in Iowa. They talk about the new hybrid engine, but also how the cars will handle such a quck turn around between the two races. They talk about the repave, and how that will affect cars, and if it will make the racing better or worse. They also go into depth about how the hybrid will work on a short oval. Kevin believes the drivers won’t use the regen that much on the oval. They go into some of the plotlines of the Mid-Ohio race, including O’Ward’s drought of wins on-track. 

Later on, Curt and Kevin provide more analysis on the Mid-Ohio race, including Andretti Global’s performance, and how they felt about the weekend, as well as other teams. They talk about Christian Rasmussen’s season coming to an end, and if he will be back with Ed Carpenter next year. Kevin and Curt talk about David Malukas and how his injury is healing, and how hard Iowa will be for him.

They also talk about the possibility of IndyCar racing at the Glen with IMSA, and COTA with NASCAR. They talk about the temperature at Honda, and the possibility of Honda pulling out of IndyCar, or continuing with the series. They also talk about if Ed Carpenter’s Team will get bought out by other charters due to lack of sponsorship.

They talk about his challengers, including Colton Herta, and give their thoughts on tire choices during the race. Curt talks about how hard it is to race at Laguna Seca, and how drivers cannot afford to make a mistake. They talk about the most entertaining races of the season, and how exciting Laguna Seca was. Kevin and Curt delve into the controversy about the caution flags not getting thrown untilJosef Newgarden made it to the pits late in the race, and how they could resolve that problem. 

Later in the the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt head to the X Box to answer some listener questions. They talk about the hybrid engine and how it will change the reliability of the cars, and how Herta had to save fuel at the end of the race. They also talk about how to deal with cars pitting under caution and how to blend them out onto the track.

They talk about Josef Newgarden and ovals, and if he is still a threat to win the championship, and if Palou can keep his championship lead through a long stretch of ovals. Kevin talks about scheduling the IndyCar race, and why IndyCar was put on CNBC. 

Later in the second hour, Kevin and Curt talk about John Force’s frightening funny-car crash on Sunday. Kevin reads a statement about Force’s status after his crash and talks about Force and who he is like as a person. Kevin and Curt talk about drivers they remember getting dumped so quickly in IndyCar, They talk about schedules and how NASCAR’s schedule will change IndyCar’s schedule, and Kevin in the portal for broadcasting.

We also talk about Nolan Siegal taking over Theo Pourchaire’s seat. Kevin and Curt talks about how Siegel has talent, but he also has a budget behind him that can benefit McLaren, especially with his dad’s connections to Fortune 500 companies. Kevin talks about how business is important in motorsports, and Siegel’s connections are perfect for the team. 

Later in the the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about why McLaren has had such controversy with retaining drivers, and how easy it is to get fired in racing, and how drivers can make it difficult for teams to get rid of them. Kevin talks about the return of Agustin Canapino, and why he wasn’t ready for Road America. They also touch on Canapino admitting he did not handle the situation with Pourchaire correctly. 

To round out the first hour, Kevin heads to the Xbox to read some questions sent to him by listeners, including the musical chairs at McLaren. 

In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt delve more into the broadcasting schedule with Fox in 2025. They delve into how the 500 will be covered on Fox, and the fact that the season ends before the NFL starts. They talk about changes in the schedule, including moving race dates, and Thermal becoming a points race. Curt talks about how much clearer of a path Fox has for summer sports than NBC has, and the streaming component of the series. Indy NXT will also be on television, airing on FS1, which will build popularity for the series. Kevin also talks about the likelihood of his working for Fox next season. 

Later in the second hour, Kevin and Curt talk about how Kanaan played a role in helping David Malukas at McLaren and answered some information on if Texas would return to the schedule. Kevin talks about why the IndyCar schedule is essentially the same as last year.

We hear about the reason why Will Power’s celebration was so emotional in victory lane after his win, and the health problems his wife has had. They also talk about the likelihood of Power retiring after his contract expires, and why he is considering stepping away from racing in the future. They also talk about how the tires performed on the track, and how that led to different strategies during the race. They also talk about Newgarden running into the back of Colton Herta, which ruined Herta’s race, and Herta’s harsh comments on the officiating. 

Later in the the first hour of the show, Curt and Kevin provide a brief recap of Milwaukee testing, including David Malukas’ performance, and how the track handled. They also talk about the state of the Iowa track, and how messy the surface is after NASCAR had parts of it repaved.

Smith talks about the changes to the track since the last visit in 2015, and how pit road feels a lot better than it has in previous years. He talks about what the drivers used the session for, and their thoughts on the engine. They also talk about the amount of studying that will go into the new engines to get a leg-up over the competition. He also talks about David Malukas and his thoughts on the test. 

Later in the second hour, Kevin and Curt go more into detail about the race at Road America, and Agustin Canapino’s absence from the race. They also talk about Nolan Siegel filling in for Canapino at Road America, and how he performed, and the future for him in IndyCar. They also discuss Canapino and how sponsors view him.

Tonight on Trackside, we recap a crazy Detroit Grand Prix. Curt and Kevin recap the Grand Prix and talk about their reaction to it. They also talk about Kyle Larson’s waiver finally being granted by NASCAR, and controversy with Agustin Canapino and Theo Pourchaire. Kevin believes that racing is a financial business, and even if the track is not perfect, there is serious financial gain to be had from racing at this location. He believes that having one wreck-filled race a year is not all that bad for teams, and fans like chaos. 

Later in the the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about Scott Dixon. We hear about how Alex Palou’s season has not been as dominant as it had been in previous years, and now Scott Dixon is a challenger for the championship win. They talk about Scott Dixon approaching AJ Foyt’s win record, and if he can surpass it in his career.

In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about Flavor Flav, and his being Will Power’s hype man. Kevin recounts a story of Power at qualifying in Detroit, and how Flav made sure he was in the camera shot during an interview to promote his brand. We talk about Will Power’s comments during the race about race control and answer other listener questions. They also talk about David Malukas and what team he could come back and race for this season and next season, and Tom Blomqvist being removed from Meyer-Shank. Later in the the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk about how historically impressive it was for Josef to win two in a row, the first time since Helio Castroneves in 2002. They go over some historical stats to show how important the race was in the history of the 500, and how Newgarden is the first American to win back-to-back since Al Unser in 1970-71. The annual IndyCar rookie test is this weekend and Curt and Kevin preview some of the drivers who will make turn some laps. They also talk about Kyle Larson turning his first laps in an IndyCar at the test. The two looks at the weather conditions for the day and what to expect from the hybrid motor in testing. They delve into legal matters involving Romain Grosjean. Following that, they talk about where Grosjean may end up for next year.  

Later in the first hour of the show, Kevin and Curt discuss Robert Wickens’ performance in the Michelin Pilot Challenge. Kevin gives an update on how the sports car race at IMS went over the weekend and how his son Jackson performed. Curt previews a new event coming to IMS that will really shine, and how the event will benefit the track. The two also answer some fan questions. In the final segment of the hour, the two talk about the announcement of a new NASCAR game coming out created by theiRacingcrew.  

In the second hour of the show, Kevin and Curt talk to Indy NXT driver Christian Rasmussen. Rasmussen gives us some insight on what it’s like to compete in the Indy NXT series, financial struggles, and his goals in motorsports. Rasmussen also talks about how he will compete in LMP2 at Petit Le Mans.
