Our second case is The Taylor Van Diest case out of Canada. On Halloween night in 2011, 18-year-old Taylor Van Diest left her home in the small, close-knit town of Armstrong, British Columbia, dressed as a zombie and buzzing with excitement, and she was meeting up with friends for one last Halloween before they all grew up. It was a short, familiar walk she'd made countless times. She never arrived.

As Taylor made her way through the dark, her phone lit up with texts between her and a friend; they were ordinary, happy messages about the night ahead. And then, one message changed everything. Taylor wrote that she thought she was "being creeped" - meaning that someone was following her in the dark. It would be the last anyone ever heard from her.

On a Friday morning in April of 1990, a woman in Greenville, South Carolina didn't show up for work. Nobody had heard from her in almost thirty-six hours. When maintenance finally opened her apartment door, water was still running in the tub and it had overflowed into the apt. Her name was Genevieve, but everyone called her Jenny. She was twenty-eight years old, originally from Youngstown, Ohio, and she had moved to South Carolina less than two years earlier and built an entire life there from scratch. Her case went cold.However in Part ONE we found out that sixteen years later, and six hundred miles away, investigators in Portageville, Missouri, finally developed a full DNA profile in the 1998 murders of 38-year-old Sherri Scherer and her 12-year-old daughter Megan, who were killed inside their own farmhouse in a forty-minute window while the rest of the family was stuck behind a truck blocking the only road home.Missouri had spent eight years with evidence they couldn't use. When they finally entered that profile into the national database, it came back to an apartment in South Carolina. Two unsolved cases became one unsolved case. And there was still no name.

Today's True Crime story involves Megan Sharpton, a 24-year-old nursing student who was about to graduate. She was planning on coming to her mother's house for dinner one night AFTER she went to an in-person interview for a new job she was considered for. She left but never came back. This case is heartbreaking. Whenever a young person has their life cut short, it's not easy to talk about. Jessica was a sophomore in high school; she was JUST starting her life. She was a gifted singer, played several musical instruments, loved cheerleading, and had just started dating her first boyfriend. Many of us can relate to Jessica in a lot of ways. That's why this one is hard to hear. She had no idea what was about to happen.

What investigators pieced together about Jessica's final moments is as heartbreaking as it is chilling. The evidence told a story of a young girl who fought with everything she had who ran, who hid, who came agonizingly close to reaching safety. About This Case: In January 2004, in the quiet Boston suburb of Woburn, Massachusetts, 34-year-old Joanne Presti and her 12-year-old daughter Alyssa were found dead inside their home on Totman Drive. Joanne was a devoted single mother, protective, family-centered, the kind of woman whose whole world was her kids. Alyssa was a straight-A student and a cheerleader, twelve years old and still happiest helping her mom around the house.

They were killed just days into the new year, and the neighborhood couldn't understand why. Who would target this family?
