- 584 - NEW EPISODE: Jake Humphrey
By any measure Jake Humphrey is a High Performer - whether it's his highly accomplished career as a TV presenter, the TV Production company (Whisper) he co-owns with a turnover of £100m+, or the collection of podcasts under the 'High Performance' umbrella. But his story is much more fascinating than most media moguls. Several times he's walked away from the top tier jobs most presenters dream of to spend more quality time with his family. It's only when you chat to Jake that you get a real understanding of the man behind those decisions, who loves to take risks, but seems to win every time.
It's a really lovely chat - with an extra special surprise at the end.
Cheers!

Thu, 08 Oct 2026 - 48min - 583 - NEW EPISODE: Billy Monger
How can you NOT be inspired by Billy Monger.
In his new book Billy is encouraging young people to find their drive, to challenge themselves and maximise their potential. All from a young man who became a double-amputee just before his 18th birthday, but thanks to his own incredible drive, as well as the love and support of those around was quickly back in a single-seater (he actually got his race licence back just ELEVEN weeks after the accident).
His honesty about his accident and his incredible passion for life and adventure are infectious - you absolutely cannot listen to this interview and not feel a new lease of life.

Thu, 01 Oct 2026 - 46min - 582 - NEW EPISODE: Rev. Richard Coles
What a joy it is to have Reverend Richard Coles back on the podcast.
His new book (a novella!) A Carol and a Killing is out now
In this chat we talk about his extraordinarily high testosterone count, swearing at bus drivers and getting a dog. None of these were on our list of questions at the start of the conversation. Is that always the best way!
Cheers,

Thu, 24 Sep 2026 - 44min - 581 - NEW EPISODE: Best Selling Author Jodi Picoult
We're back!
And back with a bang.
My Sister's Keeper
Small Great Things
The Pact
Nineteen Minutes
These are just some of the massive best-sellers written by my guest in this episode, Jodi Picoult.
If you haven't read her books - just consider this; In 2017 Jodi was named in the Top 10 Harvard alumni shaping the world. Some of the other names on the list... Jeff Bezos, Michelle Obama, Eric Schmidt (Then Google's CEO) and Robert Mueller (Director of the FBI). Her books fly off the shelves around the globe - she's sold over 60million copies of her novels.
You can order her latest book Hollow Bones here
And she's one of my favourite authors.
I hope you enjoy this conversation - it's GREAT to be back.
Cheers,

Thu, 10 Sep 2026 - 1min - 579 - #500 EPISODES: Amanda Holden, Angela Griffin & Nicola Stephenson (Ep#3)
We've rewound all the way back to the beginning this week - and the first month of the podcast. The original billing read: "Kate Thornton poses three questions to three well-known faces over three glasses of wine. On this episode: Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden, The Worst Witch star Nicola Stephenson and The Detail lead Angela Griffin"
We will be BACK with brand new episodes after our summer break in a couple of weeks - watch out for that we're already lining-up some fabulous guests and planning something big for our 500th episode in early October.

Tue, 25 Aug 2026 - 32min - 577 - #500 EPISODES: Lemn Sissay & Lisa Faulkner
This is one of most beautiful and most emotional episodes we've ever made.
It's actually from later in the first year of the podcast (October 2019) but we really wanted to play it again for you - here's how we described it at the time.
Original billing for this episode: In one of our favourite episodes ever, Kate Thornton is joined by poet Lemn Sissay and actress Lisa Faulkner for a no-holds-barred discussion of foster care and adoption in the UK. Lemn and Lisa come from two vastly different experiences: Lemn was taken from his unwed mother and placed with a foster family who turned him out of their home when he was 12; Lisa adopted her daughter in 2006, and counts it as the best decision of her life. Listen for a moving lesson in love and belonging.
We're working on new episodes of the podcast - and we'll be back with some more fabulous guests at the end of the summer.
Cheers!

Tue, 18 Aug 2026 - 44min - 576 - #500 EPISODES: Lisa Stansfield & Friends (Ep#12)
Another trip down memory lane as we spend the Summer reliving some of our earliest episodes.
The original billing of this episode read: Join Kate Thornton as she poses three questions to three well-known friends over three glasses of wine. On this episode, we’re joined by pop icon Lisa Stansfield (All Around The World). She has brought along her manager-turned-mate Rachel George, and barber-turned-bestie Lisa Eastwood for a discussion around friendship, feminism and IVF.
So settle in and enjoy 40minutes (and maybe a glass of wine or two) in the company of a legend.
Cheers,

Tue, 11 Aug 2026 - 41min - 575 - #500 EPISODES: Josie Gibson & Malin Andersson (Ep#18)
Welcome back to White Wine Question Time - and our summer of reflection.
It's a while since we've listened to some of these episodes - and today's comes from friends Josie Gibson & Malin Andersson. We say friends - but their friendship had played out entirely through social media - what you're about to hear is actually the first time they'd met.
When Malin lost her baby aged just one-month-old Josie took it upon herself to gather messages of support and kept Malin in a constant supply of videos. It's an act of kindness that sums up their supportive friendship.
As you can imagine - some sections of this conversation were quite raw, and we discuss infant death, suicidal thoughts and and other potentially disturbing topics.
But there is also light to balance the shade - and plenty of it - the final words of this episode might just be the best words ever spoken on the podcast.
And bear in mind that this pod was recorded in 2018... there's one moment where Josie refers to social media as having been through its dark period and is getting generally more positive. We even predict that 'influencers' won't be a thing in five years time. Well... we can't always be right.
Cheers!

Thu, 06 Aug 2026 - 47min - 574 - #500 EPISODES: Tamzin Outhwaite, Louie Spence & Lucy Alexander (#Ep7)
Ready for another deep cut? With our 500th episode fast approaching we're rewinding back to the very origins of the podcast - and today we've hit episode SEVEN. It's a good one - with three people who first met at drama college and have been friends ever since.
This is how the episode was originally described:
Join Kate Thornton as she poses three questions to three well-known friends over three glasses of wine. On this episode: Homes Under the Hammeralum Lucy Alexander joins Eastenders star and actress Tamzin Outhwaite and Pineapple Dance Studios star, Louie Spence. They discuss their shared history at drama school in the 80s, memorable auditions and their personal experiences with anxiety and panic attacks.
Cheers!

Tue, 04 Aug 2026 - 46min - 573 - #500 EPISODES: Denise Welsh & friends (Ep #4)
Content warning: There is lots of honest discussion about mental health and mental illness is this episode - it's all first hand experience, but it might be a difficult listen for some.
Another DEEP dive into the archive as we prepare for our 500th episode. Corrie veteran Denise Welch, No Limits original Jenny Powell, and Holby City star Angela Lonsdale talk sobriety, mental health, and romance.
Denise is ALWAYS one of our favourite guests - and she's been around since ALMOST the first episode - this was her debut on the pod, but we're pretty sure she holds the record for the most appearances - and rightly so she is a FAB-U-LOUS woman. Hopefully MANY more Denise episodes to come in the next 500 conversations.
Cheers,
x

Thu, 30 Jul 2026 - 36min - 572 - #500 EPISODES: Keith Lemon, Joe Swash & Chris Moyles (#Ep 8)
Welcome to White Wine Question Time - and we're heading DEEP into the archive this Summer to revisit some of our very first episodes.
Before we tell you about today's - we should mention it's DEFINITELY one for the adults only - this isn't an episode for a family car journey down to the coast!
Because this was our first all-male episode - and the men in question were Keith Lemon (Leigh Francis), Joe Swash and Chris Moyles. We cover porn, women and Christmas lesbians. We did warn you.
Most of the episode sounds like it was recorded yesterday - and then Joe says 'Stacey offers to pay with Apple Pay - which is only accepted in about 30% of shops' Sometimes it's the tiny details that anchor these episodes in space and time.
So let's take a trip back to 2018 and episode 8 of White Wine Question Time.
Cheers!

Tue, 28 Jul 2026 - 42min - 571 - #500 EPISODES: All Saints (Ep#5)
We're fast approaching episode #500 so we're revisiting some of the very first episodes of White Wine Question Time.
Next stop on our trip down memory lane is Episode #4 from February 2018 featuring three of All Saints - Nic Appleton, Mel Blatt and Shaznay Lewis
We're listening to all of our original episodes at the moment and choosing the best ones to play for you - so if you have a favourite let us know!
As you can hear the show has changed a lot over 500 episodes - but we'll be back with new guests, and maybe some more changes after the Summer.
Cheers!

Thu, 23 Jul 2026 - 37min - 570 - #500 EPISODES: Ep#1 Revisited
Welcome to White Wine Question Time - the podcast that these days asks its guests three thought-provoking questions over three glasses of wine.
BUT that wasn't always the case. Originally this podcast was conceived as three guests, and three BOTTLES of wine in every episode.
So as we approach our 500th episode we thought it would be a good idea to go back to where it all began and pick out some of our favourite episodes from those early days. And they don't come any earlier than this episode... the OG, numero uno, the origin. Episode #1 - with Angela Griffin, Lisa Faulkner and Heidi Partakis (Range)
It's actually extraordinary listening back to this episode that it could have been recorded last week, but in fact this was 2018 - FIVE Prime Ministers ago!
We'll be back with something new at the end of the summer, but until then I hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane.
Cheers.

Tue, 21 Jul 2026 - 43min - 569 - NEW EPISODE: Natalie Cassidy on Hun Status and Life-Changing Calls
Natalie Cassidy is having a moment - last month she appeared on stage at The Mighty Hoopla in a wedding dress playing the trumpet - a nod to her many years as Sonia Fowler in EastEnders. Her status as one of the younger huns is surely undeniable and she's now playing a leading role in Ricky Gervais' new animated project.
Natalie's always honest, and in this chat she opens up about the people who've helped her on her way, and what the future holds.
Alley Cats is an adult animated comedy created by Ricky Gervais, premiering on Netflix on August 7, 2026

Thu, 16 Jul 2026 - 45min - 568 - Sam Neill - A Reflection on a Life Well Lived
It was with great sadness that we heard the news on Monday that Sam Neill had died at the age of 78.
Sam was a guest on White Wine Question Time last year - and so this week we're bringing you that conversation. He was full of enthusiasm, and such a great storyteller. We'll be pouring a glass and watching some Sam classics this weekend, and I hope you will be too.
Rest in Peace Sam.

Mon, 13 Jul 2026 - 58min - 567 - NEW EPISODE: Fern Britton on empty nesting, Rivals and missed opportunites
In the 8+ years of this pod we haven't invited many guests back for a second appearance - but we knew we had to make an exception for Fern Britton. Small screen royalty Fern is a TV pioneer and a woman we can ALL learn from.
Now living in Cornwall, writing her incredibly successful novels and back on our screens with'Inside the Vets' on ITV she shares her knowledge on coping with children leaving home, how to live without regret and how to deal with unwanted approaches in a restaurant (you'll want to hear this one!)
She's always good company so I hope you enjoy this episode.
Cheers

Thu, 09 Jul 2026 - 48min - 566 - FROM THE CELLAR: Jack Dee
We do like to ponder our selections from the cellar - and when we finished recording Seann Walsh we knew exactly who to pair his episode with - so please enjoy a bottle of the finest Jack Dee.
Jack joined us back in 2024 to talk about what was then his new podcast with Seann 'For the Love of Dog' - a sort of canine 'Parenting Hell'
The podcast's still going strong, and Seann was great last week - so what better time than to revisit a classic episode with the one and only, Jack Dee.
Enjoy!

Tue, 07 Jul 2026 - 49min - 565 - NEW EPISODE: Seann Walsh's I'm A Celebrity insight.
Seann Walsh doesn't want us to mention his tour merchandise in these show notes (you'll hear why) so instead here's his tour schedule.
There's so much more to Seann than the headlines you've inevitably read, and it was great to sit down with him for a chat about parenting, perspective and why he's stopped selling his tour merch.
We also got ALL the goss from THAT I'm A Celebrity final - what did go on during the ad breaks, and what's going on in the contestant's WhatsApp group?
It's a lovely listen and you can hear ALL THREE questions in this episode.
Cheers,

Thu, 02 Jul 2026 - 54min - 564 - FROM THE CELLAR: Judy Murray
Is the Wimbledon music playing constantly in your head this week?
Do you smirk at the suggestion of 'new balls please'?
Is Today at Wimbledon a must watch?
If so you'll love what we've selected from our archive to bring you today.
Judy Murray has been the matriarch of British tennis over the past decade - not just by virtue of bring mum to two of the greatest homegrown players to have ever the courts of SW19. Judy is a massive advocate of women's sport - and as you'll hear in this interview from a couple of years ago when she puts her mind to something she achieves it!
This episode is best enjoyed with a small tub of strawberries & cream. About £2.50 if made at home, about £25 at you know where.
Enjoy!

Tue, 30 Jun 2026 - 54min - 563 - NEW EPISODE: Naga Munchetty on Pain, Persistence & Medical Misogyny
Naga Munchetty has been on our wish-list for a long time, and we're thrilled to have her as the guest on this episode.
Her new book It’s Probably Nothing: Critical Conversations on the Women’s Health Crisis (and How to Thrive Despite It)is out now and it's a strong recommend. It exposes the truth about how women seeking help with their health have been repeatedly failed, drawing on Naga's own experience of being dismissed, undiagnosed and misdiagnosed.
In this conversation Naga talks about her health battles, dealing with chronic pain, and how women can refuse to just 'settle'
It's a fascinating chat - and as ever we'd love to hear from you - so let us know what you think. You can DM us or email hello@whitewinepod.com
Cheers!

Thu, 25 Jun 2026 - 32min - 562 - FROM THE CELLAR: DJ Fat Tony
Fancy a classic interview from our cellar? Well you're in the right place.
A couple of years ago we spoke to DJ Fat Tony - who might not be a household name - but BOY has he seen and done it all, and by all, we mean ALL.
It's an extraordinary, and often shocking story, so strap in!
We'll be back with a brand new episode on Thursday.

Sat, 20 Jun 2026 - 16min - 560 - NEW EPISODE: Vicky Pattison on the women who saved her life
This week it's a WELCOME BACK to Vicky Pattison - she's completing her hat-trick of episodes, and it's quite an emotional one.
In this part we chat about the women who she credits as saving her life, her reflections on reality television and her approach to the haters. We always love having Vicky on the show - on every appearance she's shown us a more mature side to herself that was there all along, but for so many years she wasn't in charge of her own narrative. Well now she is and we're here for it.
Part 2 will be out on Saturday as Weekend Wine Question Time - and make sure you come back for that - it's truly emotional as we talk motherhood.
As ever - thanks for listening - hope you enjoy the episode.
Cheers!

Sun, 14 Jun 2026 - 13min - 557 - Ben Shephard's For Skin, Empty Nesting & Being Fit at 50
WARNING: This episode contains mentions of Ben Shephard's For Skin. For the avoidance of ANY doubt - For Skin is the name of his new skincare brand (with Joel Dommett) but it's funny to say... and Kate says it A LOT in this episode.
This is Ben's second appearance on the podcast and he's always welcome - fun fact - Kate named her son (Ben) after Ben Shephard - so as you can imagine - there's a lot of love between the two - and it makes for an exceptional conversation.

Sat, 30 May 2026 - 13min - 551 - Ben Elton on The Beatles, Blackadder and the Burn of Criticism
We need a legend alarm... if we had one - we'd be sounding it right now.
Ben Elton is not just a comedy legend who helped redefine stand-up comedy. He's not just the brains behind one of the greatest TV comedies of all time. He's not just a prolific author whose books tackle subjects as diverse as TV talent competitions to Nazi Germany. He's all of these things and much more.
In the first of two episodes (Ben will be back to answer one of YOUR questions on Saturday) we asked Ben about every thing from being inspired by The Beatles (specifically George Harrison) to drinking your own urine. Trust us, it's quite a story.
Ben's book 'What Have I Done' is out now

Now collated into a book 'No One You Know' he's in a nostalgic mood, and in our conversation we reminisce on Smash Hits, life before camera-phones and that time Blur played the first gig on Mars... no really!

Our guest today is the brilliant actor Jason Watkins, and this is a great conversation that starts with his incredible ancestry, and takes in his time studying at RADA, what he's learned about relationships and his reflections on the loss of his daughter to Sepsis. We promised Jason that in the notes for this episode we'd post links to the UK Sepsis Trust and the NHS so please take two minutes to familiarise yourselves with the symptoms - it isn't an exaggeration to say that reading these might help to save a life.
Thanks to Jason for joining us, I hope you enjoy the chat,
Cheers

Tue, 31 Mar 2026 - 59min - 527 - Carlos Gu on winning Strictly, smelling London, and leaving China.
Born in Shanxi province, China in 1993 Carlos Gu was raised by his single mother who supported his dancing ambitions which saw him become a Chinese National Champion dancer.
He’s been competing on a global stage since a young age but in 2022 he received the phone call he’d dreamed of – an invitation to join Strictly Come Dancing and a move to London – somewhere he’s always imagined could be his home.
His new adopted home gave him a freedom to come-out as a gay man – something he’s described as being “reborn and to live the life that I've been dreaming of for years”
He’s about to set out on tour with fellow Strictly pro Amy Dowden – the show is called ‘Reborn 2.0’ a deeply personal show that tells the story of second-chapters and new beginnings.
The timing is perfect – as his dream gig got even better last Christmas when he partnered Karen Carney all the way to the final and lifted the glitterball trophy.
What an incredible story... cheers!

Tue, 24 Mar 2026 - 57min - 525 - Steve Backshall, Adventurer in Residence
Steve Backshall is a BAFTA winning nature presenter famous for bringing wildlife and adventure to life for audiences of all ages. His infectious enthusiasm and a fearless approach to exploration, has inspired millions to take an interest in the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it.
Born in 1973 in Bagshot, Surrey, he grew up exploring the world outside his front door, developing a fascination with ponds, woodlands, and local habitats which would eventually lead to a Masters degree in bioscience and some much bigger adventures.
His route into television wasn’t straightforward – in the late 90s – after a period backpacking around the world he bought a video camera and decided to film himself trekking the jungles of Columbia – he sold the tapes to the National Geographic Channel who made him their ‘Adventurer in Residence’
A move to the BBC followed with spells on the Really Wild Show and Springwatch – but in 2008 we got our first glimpse of Deadly 60 – the show which saw Steve swim with great white sharks, catch king cobra, black mamba and lancehead snakes, have a redback spider crawl across his hand and was get bitten on the leg by a caiman while searching for anaconda in an Argentine swamp. The show was a huge success – and at its peak was broadcast in 157 countries and now tours arenas as a live show.
Beyond television, Steve is an accomplished adventurer, author, and conservationist. He has led and taken part in numerous extreme expeditions, including pioneering kayak journeys and jungle crossings, often using these challenges to raise awareness of environmental issues, inspiring curiosity, courage, and care for the natural world.
Enjoy

Today it's the triple threat of Hannah Waddingham.
It's a fabulous conversation from 2024 as she started filming for series 3 of Ted Lasso, on the eve of Emmy recognition.

Tue, 17 Mar 2026 - 50min - 523 - Richard Herring Creates Chaos...
Richard Herring became half of a decade-defining comedy act with Stewart Lee – thanks to a chance meeting in an Oxford cricket pavilion which was the genesis of a 13-year creative partnership which included the cult classic Fist of Fun and the legendary Edinburgh Fringe show ‘This Morning with Richard not Judy’
Another important pairing came along in 2008 when he teamed up with the NME journalist and then 6Music presenter Andrew Collins for a new show – but not on the radio or the television – to the dismay of many of their peers they would chat for an hour or so giving away material for free on a ‘podcast’.
It’s a genre that Richard had helped define. From his decision to host his shows in front of paying audiences (long before podcasts were profitable!) Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast – of RHLSTP to those in the know recently put out its 600th episode, that’s in addition to the multiple spin-offs which help contribute to over a million downloads per month.
As a comedian he’s been described as “One of the leading hidden masters of modern British comedy” – that’s despite deciding in the early 90s that he wasn’t very good at solo stand-up. In fact he describes his first attempts as “largely humiliating and unsatisfying.” A decade on from his early set-backs he toured shows like Talking Cock, Hitler Moustache, Someone Likes Yoghurt and Talking Cock: The Second Coming. In his show The Headmaster’s Son he focussed on life as the son of the Headmaster – dedicated to his Dad – very much his origin story as a comedian.
Like many in comedy lockdown forced all of his content online – but Richard suffered a second setback when in 2021 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
He wrote about it in his typically dark-humoured book ‘Can I Have My Ball Back?’, where he explored how his diagnosis and subsequent treatment forced him to reflect on his own mortality and masculinity.
With almost 500 episodes of White Wine Question Time, and 600 episode of Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast I wonder if this might be the most ‘capped’ interview on the internet?
Cheers!

Thu, 12 Mar 2026 - 59min - 522 - Inspirational Women - Bonnie Langford - An Episode from the Cellar
To celebrate International Women's Day we've dug deep in our archive to find some truly inspirational women.
Bonnie Langford has been treading the boards and entertaining us since before she was a teenager. Her career is as extraordinary as it is long and she has the anecdotes and stories worthy of someone who's been in as many legendary shows as she has.
In this chat we chart the ups and downs, the successes and the 'lessons' from 50 years in show-business.
We'll be back with a new episode on Thursday and for the first time a BONUS episode on Saturday. We'll tell you more about that on the next podcast.
Until then, cheers!

Tue, 10 Mar 2026 - 53min - 521 - Lucy Beaumont on Hull, comedy inheritance and life after Traitors
On this week's episode we're chatting to one of the most instantly recognisable voices in British comedy. Lucy Beaumont was raised by her mother – the playwright Gill Adams in Hull, she went to school and University in the city and got her first acting jobs at the Hull Truck Theatre. Her comedy breakthrough was almost accidental – her first stand-up gigs were an attempt to conquer her stage fright – she entered the ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ Competition and went on to reach the final.
Even after she left Hull – the city features heavily in her work – she made three series of the radio sitcom To Hull & Back, and co-wrote the Channel 4 comedy ‘Hullraisers’
She’s become a regular on our screens on comedy shows like Live at the Apollo, Would I Lie to You? QI, Taskmaster, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and the Bafta-nominated mockumentary ‘Meet the Richardson’s’ - an exaggerated version of her marriage to Jon Richardson.
Last year millions watched Lucy get murdered in a Scottish Castle on Celebrity Traitors and she’s currently appearing alongside Johnny Vegas, Lesley Joseph, Shobna Gulati and a cameo from Sir Tom Courtenay in a sell-out 40th Anniversary revival of Jim Cartwright’s play ‘Road’ about 80s life in a Northern Town which has received rave reviews.
Her next stand-up tour ‘Bad at Quiz Shows, Good with Weirdos’ will be her biggest yet – and it’s fair to say that right now she’s at the top of her game. Her material has always been autobiographical – she’s shared her stories of Hull, motherhood, and marriage – so I’m looking forward to finding out what this next chapter holds…

Thu, 05 Mar 2026 - 52min - 520 - Inspirational Women - Pop Star Turned Horticulturalist, Kim Wilde - An Episode from the Cellar
Throughout March we're celebrating inspirational women, and where better to start than 80s pop star turned award-winning horticulturalist, Kim Wilde.
In this episode, Kim takes us through her incredible journey—from a shy girl raised in a musical household to a teen being catapulted to global fame with "Kids in America", a song that changed everything for her and her family. Here, she reflects on the wild ride of her music career and reveals how stepping away from the spotlight and into gardening in her 30s gave her life a new sense of purpose.
So join me as we head back to 2024 for another classic conversation from the Cellar.

Tue, 03 Mar 2026 - 54min - 519 - Joanna Page on Gavin & Stacey, Margot Robbie, and Nude Scenes
Our guest on this episode of White Wine Question Tim is Joanna Page, an actor and presenter from Swansea, who was told whilst she was training at RADA that she was not a bad actress, the problem was that she was Welsh…
Luckily for all of us she didn’t let these comments hold her back, and ended up leaving RADA early to join the Royal National Theatre and then the Royal Shakespeare Company, appearing in the star-studded 1999 BBC adaptation of David Copperfield, and then what proved to be one of the nation’s all-time favourite Christmas films, Love Actually.
She seems to have a knack of winning roles in some of our most beloved shows, playing the titular Stacey Shipman in the BAFTA-winning series Gavin & Stacey alongside Ruth Jones, James Corden, and Matthew Horne - the final episode was one of the most-watched TV shows of the last two decades, with an audience of over 20 million.
She has four children with her actor husband James Thornton, who she starred with in David Copperfield, but in a truly Dickensian plot-twist she didn’t meet him at the time – it took a later introduction to throw them together from drama school friend Maxine Peake
So sit back and enjoy this chat with Joanna Page as she discusses that Gavin & Stacey finale, Hollywood's very own Margot Robbie being a fan, and how she feels about nude scenes.

Tue, 24 Feb 2026 - 24min - 517 - Dave Stewart - on Music, Creativity, and the Perfect Martini
Dave Stewart is a true music icon. Born in Sunderland in 1952 his first love affair was with football – dreaming of a career playing for the Black Cats, but a knee injury and his parents’ divorce changed his entire outlook. Music filled a hole - despite a music teacher who described his dreams as ‘idiotic’ it became his passion, inspired by his Dad’s high-tech (for the 70s!) stereo system, a Robert Johnson blues album and some eye-opening teenage experimentation with acid.
He signed to Elton John’s record label shortly after leaving school and after several false starts he met Annie Lennox in 1976 and formed a band together called The Tourists – a pre-curser to the significantly more successful 80s project The Eurythmics .
In the 45 years since then Dave has done it all – as an artist he’s a Grammy winner, as a producer he’s won multiple Brit Awards, as a song-writer he’s won the prestigious Silver Clef award, he’s won a Golden Glove for composing a song with Mick Jagger for Alfie and in 2024 he teamed up with Joss Stone to write a musical version of The Time Traveller’s Wife. It’s hard to put his contribution to music into context because his impact on popular music is so vast.
Let me list just SOME of the artists he’s produced, written for or recorded with:
Paul McCartney, Bono, Aretha Franklin, Alison Moyet, Bryan Ferry, Sinead O’Connor, No Doubt, Jon Bon Jovi, Bob Geldoff, Bryan Ferry, & Stevie Nicks. In fact in 2011 he briefly formed a supergroup comprised of himself, Mick Jagger, Joss Stone, Damian Marley and A.R. Rahman.
He’s one of the great innovators – in 1998 his album SlyFi became the first album to be released on the internet – it predates Google, and MySpace and Facebook wouldn’t be launched for another SEVEN years.
Now in his early 70s he continues to inspire – until Covid he owned and ran a creative members club in London, and through his new venture Rare Entity he continues to push musical boundaries and work with some of the world’s biggest names in music.
Enjoy our chat with an icon.
Cheers!

Thu, 19 Feb 2026 - 56min - 516 - Couples' Conversations from the Cellar: Strictly Stars Janette & Aljaž

This week it's Strictly Come Dancing's power couple - Janette Manrara & Aljaž Škorjanec. Hear how their romance bloomed on the touring dance show 'Burn the Floor', why they only row once every three years and the best engagement story we've ever had on the podcast.

Tue, 17 Feb 2026 - 48min - 515 - Josh Widdicombe's Unbelievable 90s Obsessions
Josh Widdicombe is one of the most recognisable comedians on our TV screens right now. Along with Adam Hills and Alex Brooker (both in our back catalogue) he's presented more than THIRTY seasons into The Last Leg - a show which was only meant to run for a few weeks during the 2012 Paralympics!
He's also, along with fellow comedian Rob Beckett, responsible for Parenting Hell - one of the most successful podcasts of all time. It's fast approaching a BILLION downloads, and having been sold to Spotify in a big money deal it's still a fan favourite.
Now Josh is turning his attention to the 90s and his passion for the decade's pop culture. And why not - it was brilliant. From Nasty Nick to Mr Blobby, we chat about some of the moments that defined the decade, as well as his relation to Henry VIII and the moments that made him.
It's a lovely chat as he joins us from his relatively new Devon home (which used to belong to Noel Edmonds!) so get comfortable and enjoy.
Cheers

Thu, 12 Feb 2026 - 46min - 514 - Couples' Conversations from the Cellar: Torvill & Dean
Well we had to didn't we?
Throughout February we're celebrating the best of the couples' conversations we've shared over the past seven years, and with the Winter Olympics under way in Italy we're reliving one of Team GB's most iconic moments on ice with Jane Torvill & Christopher Dean.
WE KNOW their relationship is a professional one, and a decades-long friendship - but here on White Wine Question Time we think Valentines can be for those partners in life who just make everything better - so this episode is dedicated to the best friends, mates, and pals who are always there for us no matter what!
Enjoy the conversation and good luck to the newest generation of Olympians in Milan.
Cheers.

Tue, 10 Feb 2026 - 48min - 513 - Helen Skelton on Challenges, Confidence and Comebacks
Welcome to White Wine Question Time - we're not far away from our 500th episode - and as ever we do want to say thank you for listening whether you're new to our show or whether you're one of the OG listeners.
As we prepare for the NEXT 500 shows we'd love to know who your favourite guests have been - drop us an email (about that or anything else!) to hello@whitewinepod.com.
Now this week we have a phenomenal woman on the podcast. Helen Skelton done it all - cycled to the South Pole, kayaked along the Amazon and run marathons through the desert. She continues to redefine her life and career - bending the traditions and so-called rules to fit her ambitions and her family.
Those who have worked with her (including our producer Geoff who worked with Helen at BBC Radio 5 Live) are quick to say she's one of the nicest people in the industry and deserves every opportunity she's fought for. In the past few years we've watched her grow in confidence after some setbacks - and we're all ready for her triumphant era.
As Helen would have said on Blue Peter... here's one we made earlier.
Cheers xx

Thu, 05 Feb 2026 - 41min - 512 - Couples conversations from the Cellar: Richard and Judy
Throughout February we’re celebrating the month of love by hearing some of our favourite couples conversations from the Cellar. This week it's a couple so iconic that no surnames are required; it’s Richard and Judy.
With their signature warmth, wit, and unmistakable chemistry, these broadcasting legends dominated the breakfast TV schedules in the nineties and early noughties. In this show they share stories of rising through the ranks of journalism, how they first met, the lessons they’ve learned from working together, and the highs and lows of a lifetime in the spotlight. It’s the perfect tonic for Valentine’s season!

Tue, 03 Feb 2026 - 1h 04min - 511 - Alex Brooker on The Last Leg, Soccer Aid and Skipping Queues...
January is almost over, the days are getting (slightly!) longer and this week we've got something else to brighten your mood - an extremely funny, and emotional chat with one third of The Last Leg trio, Alex Brooker.
As a child he underwent over 40 operations with no guarantee that he'd ever walk. Now with two daughters of his own he reflects on what that time must have been like for his own parents. He talks about how he actually looks back with fond memories on the many hospital trips, and with his typical dark humour wonders if his mum might have been a bit hasty with the decision to amputate!
You get the impression listening to this interview that Alex understands, and appreciate the many people who've helped him on his journey from Great Ormond Street to winning awards for his TV work, especially as there have been a few moments where some simple decisions could have changed his story completely.
Thanks so much to Alex for stopping by for a chat - I hope you all enjoy it too.
Cheers!

From his very first performance (aged 5) he recognised the buzz he got from performing, and having started as a comic actor his portrayals of The Throubles in Bloody Sunday showed the world what a versatile performer he is. Since then he's taken roles which (in his own words) mean he's lost about four children and as a cop about ten partners - and he's now starring in one of the world's most-watched shows; Harlen Coben's Run Away on Netflix.
James spoke to us from his home in Belfast after an extremely busy start to the year and reminisced about his Dad and everything he taught him (literally - his Dad was his primary school teacher), the people in his life who've changed the narrative - like Director Paul Greengrass who cast James in Bloody Sunday.
It's a fabulous chat, so we hope you can find somewhere to enjoy it.
As ever - thanks for listening, and cheers!

Thu, 22 Jan 2026 - 43min - 508 - Scarlett Moffatt on Strictly, Side Hustles, and Tea at The Ritz
It's our 7th birthday, congratulations if you've been listening since we started back in early 2019!
One person who did feature on one of our early episodes is Scarlett Moffatt. She's always been one of our favourite guests and we're thrilled she's popped back in for a chat this week.
She's always brilliant and in this episode we talk about the jobs she had before she became famous as Scarlett's about to release a documentary she's presented about side hustles.
Scarlett is always honest, and as you'll hear we've now made a promise to have her on EVERY January.
Thanks for listening (whether you're one of the OG 2019 listeners, or if this is you're first time listening) - we really do appreciate it.
Cheers,

Thu, 15 Jan 2026 - 35min - 507 - Inspiration from the Cellar: Sir Tim Peake
Ready to feel inspired?
All this month we're digging into our archive of almost 500 episodes to bring you the MOST inspirational guests - and well, it doesn't come more inspirational than this. If you've ever looked up to the stars and wondered about the enormity of space... well today's White Wine Question Time guest has done more than just dream. He's been there.
Sir Tim Peake had to undertake the equivalent of two degrees as part of his training to go to the International Space Station - including being fluent in Russian. His desire to travel into space served as his motivation, also drawing on his military training and reserves.
His perspective on life has changed, and it serves as a timely reminder that we are all inhabitants of Earth - whatever our race, religion or politics - we all call this third rock from the sun 'home'
Enjoy this episode from our archive and we'll be back on Thursday with something brand new.
Cheers!

This month we've dug deep in our archive to find the most inspirational guests we could find - it's our New Year's gift to you.

On Thursday we'll be back with our first NEW episode of the year - and it's the PERFECT guest for January; Paul McKenna.
Enjoy.

Thu, 25 Dec 2025 - 52min - 503 - Denise Welch on Simon Cowell, Glasto Flags and why Mother Has ARRIVED!
Merry Christmas!
As promised here's the second of three festive treats.
Whilst Kylie Minogue may have landed the Christmas Number One - the most surprising entry in the running for top of the pops this year was Denise Welch. It marks the end of an extraordinary year which started in a very dark place, saw her die at least three times (according to social media), get lost flying over the Alps in a hot air balloon (it's a long story!) and get reinvented as the undisputed Queen of the Huns. When flags are being flown at Glastonbury featuring your name and face - you know you've become an icon.
In this extremely honest interview Denise talks about the highs and lows of 2025, her love of reality TV, her flirtation with a pop career and why she things everything has suddenly come good for her.
We've saved Noddy Holder for pudding on Christmas Day, and we'll be back with a brand new episode on New Year's Day.
Thanks as always for listening - have a fabulous festive season.
Cheers

Tue, 23 Dec 2025 - 59min - 502 - The WWQT Woman of the Year is... RAYE
This episode marks the first of a festive trio of treats.
On Christmas Day join us for a chat with Mr Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssssssstmaaaaaaaaaaassssss! himself... Noddy Holder!
In our next episode we'll catch up with Denise Welsh, whose reinvention as queen of the huns has been extraordinary - PLUS we'll talk about her brand new Christmas single.
But today we're handing our a gift - when we sit down and look back on 2025 there is one woman who we think has had a quite extraordinary year. She's won awards, released her breakthrough work, and won us all over with her energy, personality and relentless work ethic. She is truly living her best life and doing it HER way.
Our White Wine Question Time 'Woman of the Year' is RAYE.
To celebrate - this is a chat I had with RAYE a few years ago as she was really starting to break through as her own artist. As you'll hear all of the hallmarks of her current success were there all along.

Thu, 18 Dec 2025 - 43min - 501 - Something from the Cellar: Shirley Ballas
NOTHING says Christmas like the final of Strictly Come Dancing - and for our 'Cellar' episode this week we're serving up a treat - Head Judge Shirley Ballas.
2026 will be Shirley's 10th year on Strictly after replacing Len Goodman. It's recognition for a lifetime of excellence in dancing, having won multiple British, US, and World Latin American Dance titles.
Her ambition in dance has on occasion been a hinderance to her personal relationships, but as you'll hear her positivity is endless and infectious. She gets a definite '10' from us.
Enjoy this festive episode - and keeeeeeep listening!
Cheers.

Tue, 16 Dec 2025 - 43min - 500 - The Yorkshire Shepherdess, Amanda Owen on Childbirth (x9), Separation and a Simple Christmas
What an episode we have for you this week - an incredible conversation with a formidable woman. Amanda Owen is known to many as The Yorkshire Shepherdess, and her family life has been shared with us through social media and numerous TV series. Since her separation from her ex-husband Clive she's adapted to a new way of living - sharing the farm as they still do, with children running between the two houses on their land. Her outlook on life has been shaped by the outstandingly beautiful surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales, and it's a refreshing take on modern living.
Her new book Christmas Tales from the Farm is out now - and she talks about Christmas with all the children in this episode - it's fascinating.
Enjoy this (literal) fireside chat.
Cheers!

Tue, 02 Dec 2025 - 47min - 496 - Big Brother host Will Best on his Big break and crying at work
Will Best's journey from T4 to Big Brother hasn't been straightforward. It might surprise you to know that in between he's run a tech company, launched an alcohol brand, and ask a lot of questions to Simon Cowell.
His start has never been brighter than it is right now - hosting Hits Radio breakfast with James Barr and Fleur East and standing alongside AJ outside the Big Brother house.
It's a fascinating story which has seen Will pick himself up after several false-dawns. He's always adding to his knowledge, and learning from every challenge - something we can all learn from.
Enjoy the episode!
Cheers.

Thu, 27 Nov 2025 - 43min - 495 - Something from the Cellar: Gyles Brandreth
Welcome to White Wine Question Time; the podcast that asks it's guests three thought-provoking questions over three glasses of wine.
Today, we're heading back down to the cellar for another episode from the archives, and as part of our mini literature festival we're holding this month, it's from another bestselling author...
My guest today has written more than a hundred books, and is also a broadcaster, a knitwear designer, a former politician, and a celebrated raconteur.
Having become well-known on breakfast television in the 80s, in no small part thanks to
his choice of knitwear, he's been a mainstay on TV shows like The One Show,
Countdown, Celebrity Gogglebox, This Morning, and Radio 4's Just a Minute.
He was also the host of the award-winning Something Rhymes with Purple podcast with Susie Dent, and on his latest pod, Rosebud he talks to famous and fascinating people about their first experiences.
This is the last of our November authors - I hope you've enjoyed this look back - and for December we've lined up some festive episodes designed to put you in the perfect mood for Christmas.
Enjoy!

Tue, 25 Nov 2025 - 50min - 494 - Queen of Burlesque Dita Von Teese reveals all
Our guest on this episode of White Wine Question time is the 'Queen of Burlesque' Dita Von Teese
She's a performer at the very top of her game who’s elevated striptease and burlesque into high art – from martini glasses to Swarovski carousels, she’s transformed a vintage niche into sell out tours around the world, and has her own residency in Vegas.
But her story began far from the spotlight. Born Heather Renée Sweet, she was a shy, self-conscious child who cleaned toilets at her ballet school in exchange for lessons, and dreamed of escaping into the Technicolour world of 1940s Hollywood.
Alongside her stage career, she’s written books, launched perfumes, created lingerie lines, and is even producing her own French gin. She’s appeared in films and music videos for artists from Green Day to Taylor Swift, and continues her Las Vegas residency with over 100 performances a year.
At 53, she shows no signs of slowing down. Next up is Noctornelle, her most ambitious production yet, inspired by 19th-century stage magicians, which will tour the UK in 2026.
She's an incredible artist and this was a Dita at her very honest best. Enjoy!

Thu, 20 Nov 2025 - 50min - 493 - Something from the Cellar: Poet Donna Ashworth
Each week, in addition to a brand new episode, we delve into our back catalogue to serve up a vintage episode from our cellar.
All this month we're choosing from our excellent selection of authors - a mini literature festival if you will.
Today it's Donna Ashworth - a Scottish poet who shot to stardom during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since been credited with revitalising a national interest in poetry.
So as the weather takes a turn for the worse why not snuggle in and treat yourself to 45 minutes of something inspiring.
I hope you enjoy this episode - and we'll see you back here for a brand new interview next time.

Tue, 18 Nov 2025 - 44min - 492 - News Agent Lewis Goodall on Trump, Power, and Politics
Lewis Goodall has fast become one of the biggest and most trusted voices in British journalism. As one third of the News Agents podcast (with Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel) he brings his sharp political insight, compelling personal story, and adds a willingness to explore new media formats.
Born in Birmingham, he rose from a working-class background his father a welder at the Rover factory to studying history and politics at St John’s College, Oxford, as the first in his family to attend university.
Starting his career behind the scenes at Granada Studios writing questions for University Challenge and later at the think-tank Institute for Public Policy Research Goodall soon moved into journalism. He became a producer and reporter for BBC Newsnight, before joining Sky News as a political correspondent. His reporting on Brexit, the Labour Party and domestic policy earned him recognition and helped establish his reputation.
At a time of such division - the world needs communicators like Lewis - so it was a pleasure to sit down and find out what drives him.
Enjoy!

Thu, 13 Nov 2025 - 42min - 491 - Something from the Cellar: Sex & The City author Candace Bushnell
Our mini literature festival continues with an author who helped shape the the early part of the millennium - her New York Observer column 'Sex & the City' would spark a TV show that endures to this day - 30 years on from the first published anthology of her work.
Candace Bushnell has gone on to write many more books, many continuing the tales of Carrie Bradshaw.
In 2023 Candace joined White Wine Question Time for a chat - and as we look back at some of the best authors to have appeared on the podcast it felt right to include this episode.
If EVER there was a time to pour yourself a glass - it has to be to this.
Enjoy xx

Tue, 11 Nov 2025 - 57min - 490 - England Roses Captain Zoe Aldcroft on life after THAT World Cup win.
Were you one of the six million people who watched the Women's Rugby World Cup Final on TV? An absolutely phenomenal performance from the England Roses saw them victorious, and in that moment their lives changed forever.
We're incredibly lucky to have the Captain of the England Roses, Zoe Aldcroft on the podcast reflecting on the huge team effort, the personal sacrifices and the whirlwind of the past few weeks.
You do not have to love rugby to love what these women have achieved - this is a story as universal as any - even with a little bit of romance thrown in for good measure.
Enjoy the episode - and don't forget to hit subscribe so you can get new episodes directly in your podcast app every Thursday morning. It's completely free but it really helps us.

Thu, 06 Nov 2025 - 40min - 489 - Something from the Cellar: Fifty Shades author; EL James
EL James doesn't do podcasts - in fact appropriately enough we popped her podcast cherry (Absolutely no safe words required).
As part of our look back at some of our favourite authors to have appeared on the podcast we couldn't look past this one. Erika (her real name) is one of the best selling authors on the planet - but her fame came later, after a successful career in British TV.
It is an extraordinary conversation - which took place back in 2001 - at a time when she was trying to juggle homeschooling and launching a range of adult toys. Weren't we all.
Hope you enjoy it - but just a word of warning, it probably is one for listening to on headphones - you can imagine but some of the chat is quite saucy.
Cheers

Tue, 04 Nov 2025 - 44min - 488 - Blue Lights star, actress Sian Brooke
Are you watching Blue Lights? If not, why not?
On this episode is one of the stars of the Belfast-based cop drama. She's a star of stage and screen at the peak of her acting prowess. You may have seen her as Sherlock' Holmes' evil sister in Sherlock alongside Benedict Cumberbatch or starring opposite Suranne Jones in Doctor Foster. If you're really lucky you may have even seen her break-out theatre role as Ophelia in Hamlet at London's Barbican.
Sian rarely does podcast interviews - so what an honour to share a couple of glasses of wine and a really lovely chat about the confidence gained from early drama classes, the women who've reached down to help her on her journey, and the illness that nearly ended her career before it really began.
Sit back, grab whatever drink you fancy and enjoy!

Thu, 30 Oct 2025 - 47min - 487 - Something from the Cellar: Lynda La Plante
Over the next five Tuesdays we're holding our own mini literature festival. We've delved deep in the archive to find some of the very best authors we've spoken to over the past seven years, and what an icon we have to kick it off!
After a successful career as an actor Lynda La Plante became intrigued by the production process of television drama and began writing treatments, ideas for potential shows that were, well, very much her own. Although most were rejected, one was praised as utterly brilliant. By 1983, her six-part series Widows premiered and became the highest rating series of the early 1980s. Following the show's success, she established herself as a highly sought-after crime writer with women at the heart of her stories, and the release of her debut novel in 1987 quickly established her as a critically acclaimed best-selling author to boot, paving the way for a series of hit books that followed in rapid succession.
By 1991, she hit new heights and broke new ground with the premiere of the world-renowned Prime Suspect. A detective drama starring Helen Mirren as DCI Jane Tennyson, which went on to win numerous BAFTAs, Emmys and Golden Globes over the course of its seven seasons and made Helen Mirren a bona fide global superstar. It's no surprise that in 2008 she was awarded a CBE for her services to literature, drama and charity. is a member of the Crime Thriller Award Hall of Fame
We'll be back on Thursday with a brand new episode.

Tue, 28 Oct 2025 - 1h 07min - 486 - Why is Jon Richardson sleeping in a stranger's boxer shorts?
Jon Richardson will not like this podcast description - as you'll hear!
Whether you know Jon from 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, his stand-up specials, playing 'himself' in Meet The Richardsons or from his Saturday morning show on Absolute Radio - you'll know one thing... he's extremely funny.
Behind the humour is a man as complicated as he is kind - someone who hoards everything (he still has a copy of the newspapers from the day of the 1999 Solar Eclipse), but who values friendships from every stage of his life. We were delighted when Jon agreed to talk about his new acting role as a drug-taking ex-Marine-turned-Creative Arts teacher in Waterloo Road. It was fascinating to see how uneasily Jon takes a compliment, for someone so used to the validation of a live audience he struggled to watch the Gogglebox clip we played him.
Modest, sincere and painfully funny - it turned out to be a great conversation.
We hope you enjoy it!
Cheers.

Thu, 23 Oct 2025 - 49min - 485 - Something from the Cellar: Stephen Fry
A National Treasure.
That's what Stephen Fry is. Whether you know him as General Melchett, Jeeves, half of Fry & Laurie, the sound of Harry Potter, the genius of QI or the modern Homer retelling Greek mythology to a new generation - he has touched most of our lives in some way over the past half century.
So seeing as Stephen is currently on our screens as himself in The Traitors we thought it was a timely opportunity to bring his episode of White Wine Question Time up from the cellar for another airing.
We spoke in early 2025 - with Stephen in LA - about the UK import of Jeopardy, what attracted him to It's A Sin, his incredible documentaries on gay rights around the world and his advice for young creatives joining the entertainment industry. As you would expect, it was truly fascinating.
Enjoy the episode and don't forget we'll be back on Thursday with a brand new episode.
Cheers.
