Happily Murrayed

Cutdown & The Murrays

Happily Murrayed is us - Conor and Joanna - chatting about our lives, our relationship, and everything that comes with it.

From big life moments to the everyday chaos in between, we share the stuff that’s going on with us, the things we disagree on, and the moments that probably should’ve stayed private.

We’re figuring things out as we go - balancing life with baby Alfie, building a home, busy work lives, and trying to keep some sense of normality along the way. It doesn’t always go to plan.

This is a podcast about relationships - the good bits, the messy bits, and the moments that nearly break you. We don’t always remember things the same way, we don’t always agree, and we definitely don’t have all the answers… but we’ll give it a go.

Each week, we also hear from you - your questions, your stories, your dilemmas - and react in the only way we know how: honestly, and usually with a bit of slagging.

If you’re here for the chaos, relationship honesty, or just to feel a bit better about how you’re doing it, you’re in the right place.

  • 27 - We Talk About Our Wills… Did We Make Each Other’s?

Conor’s made his will. Jo reckons hers is easy: Conor can have the lot, and he’ll look after Alfie. Then Conor suggests he might remarry in a year. Suddenly, Jo would like to make a few amendments.

A clip of Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard raises another question: if your partner told the waitress she had gorgeous eyes, would you hear a compliment or be offering her your seat?

Jo tries to buy a quiz point with margaritas, and the Murray Mailbag takes on child-free weddings, a mother-in-law who lives next door and a fella whose international dial tone keeps giving him away.

  • 26 - Alfie Murray Turns Two… What Did We Do With All Our Free Time Before?!

Alfie has turned two, broken the telly and made himself very much at home in crèche. Conor and Jo take stock of life with their little boy - from birthday celebrations and toddler-proofing a restaurant trip to how becoming parents has changed them both.

Jo admits she’s completely changed her mind about crèche, while her dream day now involves Harry Potter, endless cups of tea and very specific visiting hours for Conor and Alfie.

Plus, Jo opens her Notes app to reveal her bucket list, the quiz gets competitive and there’s an update from our listener who was invited to Sicily.

Parents: if you had a whole day to yourself, what would you actually do?

  • 25 - Jo Invited Everyone for Christmas… Conor Just Found Out

Jo’s planned Christmas dinner, the cocktails and a family sleepover. There’s just one problem: Conor hasn’t agreed to the sleepover. They haven’t moved into the house yet, and the Christmas negotiations are already getting heated.

Elsewhere, an empty sauna raises some serious questions about personal space, Conor’s signed book turns up on Vinted, and Jo lays down another rule for their new bathroom.

Murray vs Cooper delivers a planetary misunderstanding and a memorable “as the crow flies” tiebreaker. Plus, your spooky stories include an unsettling Ring doorbell recording and a babysitter nobody hired.

  • 24 - We Did the Sleep Training. Alfie Had Other Plans.

They did the sleep training. Alfie has decided both parents need to be in bed beside him—and leaving requires permission. Luckily, Conor’s found a loophole.

This week, Alfie heads to crèche wearing a gold chain, Jo considers going for a walk without her phone, and Conor discovers that being consulted on the house doesn’t necessarily mean getting a say.

There’s also Jo’s unusual party trick, singing under pressure on the Ireland team bus, another disputed Murray vs Cooper quiz and your properly spooky stories.

Does your toddler run bedtime too? Tell us your best escape excuse in the comments.

  • 23 - We Ate Our Way Around San Sebastián… Then Came Home to House-Move Chaos

Three days eating their way around San Sebastián… then straight home to house-move chaos. Conor and Jo are back with their top three food spots, €2 beers and a long list of decisions they’d rather leave until later. The “retiree group” reunited with the Sextons, O’Mahonys and Healys for pintxos, cocktails and sea-urchin soup that wasn’t exactly Jo’s first choice with a hangover. Conor worried about Alfie from another country, while Jo insists a story is hilarious even as Conor questions whether it’s worth telling. Back home, Jo is ready to move in with or without windows, Conor has vetoed a piece of furniture, and even buying dishwasher tablets has become a debate. Plus, a sandwich comes with unwanted supervision, and the Murray v Cooper quiz takes a deeply unfair turn with a ten-point bonus question. Been to San Sebastián? Tell us which food spots we missed in the comments. And keep sending your spooky stories to the Murray Mailbag on Instagram for October.
