    Then comes the rapid summer of 1947. Arnold’s report becomes national news. A United Air Lines captain, copilot, and stewardess report multiple disc-like objects over the Pacific Northwest.   • 85 - The Oklahoma City Bombing Questions: Informants, Warnings, and Missing Files

    The Oklahoma City bombing killed 168 people, including 19 children, when a Ryder truck bomb destroyed much of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on April 19, 1995. Timothy McVeigh was convicted and executed. Terry Nichols was convicted and sentenced to life. Michael Fortier admitted that he knew of the plan before the attack.


    But the prosecution did not end the case’s deepest disputes. Investigators initially searched for a second unidentified man connected to the Ryder truck. McVeigh had contacts with the wider anti-government extremist culture of the early nineteen nineties, including a phone call to Elohim City, an eastern Oklahoma community associated with Christian Identity and white-supremacist figures. ATF informant Carol Howe later said she had reported troubling rhetoric and possible threats involving federal targets before the bombing.


    Then, in May 2001, days before McVeigh’s scheduled execution, the FBI disclosed that more than one thousand Oklahoma City bombing documents had not been provided to the defense. A Justice Department Inspector General investigation found serious failures in document handling, communication, oversight, confidential-source record searches, and archival procedures. It did not find intentional concealment.

    A dark, angular object floats above Earth in photographs from Space Shuttle Endeavour’s STS-88 mission. The images are authentic NASA records from December 1998, during the first Shuttle assembly mission for the International Space Station. To many viewers, the object looks less like debris than a machine: folded, asymmetrical, and black against the planet below.


    Those photographs became attached to a far older story. The Black Knight legend links Nikola Tesla’s unusual radio observations in 1899, long-delayed radio echoes reported in the late 1920s, Cold War stories about unidentified satellites, claims involving astronaut Gordon Cooper, and Scottish writer Duncan Lunan’s attempt to interpret echo patterns as a message associated with Epsilon Boötis. Lunan’s interpretation supplied the famous claim that an extraterrestrial probe may have been near Earth for roughly 13,000 years.


    But the documentary record is complicated. Tesla never identified a satellite. Long-delayed echoes were genuine reports, though their causes remain unsettled across every historical case. A famous 1960 mystery object was later identified by the Department of Defense as material associated with the Discoverer program. Lunan later rejected his extraterrestrial interpretation. And NASA identifies the STS-88 scene as involving space debris, with mission records documenting that a thermal covering escaped during a spacewalk.
