- 776 - 430: God's Idea for Families
Hello, friend. I hope you’re have a good day. We’re in the throes of summer vacation, which for many of us means more time with our families. Kids at home during the day with no school, summer trips, family reunions. These things bring fun and lasting memories, but they can also bring added stress. The apostle Paul has a word for families in his letter to the Colossians. I pray it encourages you if you find yourself feeling a little tense amidst some extra togetherness.
Mon, 13 Jul 2026 - 21min - 775 - 429: Facing Your Worst Fears
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re doing well today. As we conclude this series of episodes about living life with less fear, I think it’s important to note a time Jesus felt afraid. That might sound wrong to you, but he did. And there is good news, friend – the same resource Jesus relied on to deal with his fear is available to you too.
Mon, 06 Jul 2026 - 28min - 774 - 428: Do I Even Matter?
Hi, friend. I hope you’re having a good day. “Do I even matter?” That’s something most, probably all, of us have wondered. Maybe you don’t ask the question out loud, but the choices you make or the things you pursue indicate a striving for significance. Friend, don’t look at what the world says is important for the answer. Look for the answer in Scripture: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works” (Ephesians 2:10).
Mon, 29 Jun 2026 - 26min - 773 - 427: Change the Way You Look at Death
Hello, my friend. Thanks for joining me today. This week’s episode touches on a heavy topic, but it’s one I think about more often as I get older: death. What comes next. Life after this life. I know it can feel uncomfortable, even scary. But I also know the promise of Jesus. “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26).
Mon, 22 Jun 2026 - 27min - 772 - 426: The Power of a Praying Parent
Hello, friend. I hope you’re doing well today. Father’s Day is coming up, making this week’s episode especially timely. We’re looking at a couple of stories in the Bible when scared, desperate fathers felt out of options. And what God said to them, he says to you: Trust your children to me.
Mon, 15 Jun 2026 - 29min - 771 - 425: When You Worry About What Comes Next
Hello, my friend. You’ve probably heard the phrase, “The only constant in life is change.” Chances are, you’re facing some changes right now. If you’re struggling with the unknown or worried about what’s ahead of you, may the promise of Psalm 23 remind you that whatever you face, you are never, ever alone. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” (Psalm 23:6)
Mon, 08 Jun 2026 - 22min - 770 - 424: The Source of All Fear
Hello, my friend. Thanks for joining me today. You’re likely familiar with the story of the first sin. The moment in the Garden of Eden when Eve defied God’s instruction to not eat the fruit from one specific tree. But have you ever considered what was at war in Eve’s mind and heart? Maybe she wasn’t simply prideful, or disobedient, but perhaps she was first afraid?
Mon, 01 Jun 2026 - 35min - 769 - 423: 8 Ways to Stop Worry
Hello, friend. Welcome back to the Encouraging Word Podcast. Today’s episode finds us considering one of the most common human emotions: worry. And in Matthew Chapter 14, we’re reminded of one of God’s most enduring promises: with Jesus, you always have enough.
Mon, 25 May 2026 - 23min - 768 - 422: Finding Peace in a Day of Panic
Hi, friend. I hope you’re doing well today. We’re in the midst of a series here on the podcast looking at occasions Jesus instructed us to not be anxious or afraid. Today we’re going to Matthew chapters 24 and 25, to the final week of Jesus’ life. He knows what awaits him, but his admonition to his disciples remains the same: Don’t be afraid.
Mon, 18 May 2026 - 30min - 767 - 421: From Despair To Hope
Hello, my friend. Thanks for joining me on the podcast today. There are few guarantees in life, but there is at least one thing that’s true for us all – life comes with storms. And where you turn your eyes when trouble comes makes all the difference.
Mon, 11 May 2026 - 31min - 766 - 420: The Deepest Problem of Man
Hi, friend. Thank you for joining me for another Encouraging Word. Today’s episode features a story found in Mark Chapter 2. Maybe you know it – it’s about a man who is unable to walk and goes to great lengths to be in the same room with Jesus. He wants to be healed. And he is, but that’s not really the point of the story.
Mon, 04 May 2026 - 29min - 765 - 419: Why Are You Afraid?
Hello, friend. I hope you’re doing well today. We’re beginning a new series of episodes this week, tackling the topic of fear. Fear comes up a lot in the teachings of Jesus. In fact, the most common command issued by Jesus is some version of “Do not fear.” Easier said than done, right? But with God’s help, it’s possible, my friend. You can fear less tomorrow than you do today.
Mon, 27 Apr 2026 - 26min - 764 - 418: The Greatest Idea in History
Hello, friend. I hope you’re doing well today. This week on the podcast we’re wrapping up our series exploring the profound gift of God’s grace. If you’ve missed any episodes, I invite you to go back and catch up. My prayer is you will receive this great gift that meets your greatest need, and that you will learn what happens when graces reach into every part of your life. Let grace get you.
Mon, 20 Apr 2026 - 28min - 763 - 417: Coming Clean With God
Hello, my friend. We make mistakes, don’t we? We make stupid decisions, some of use more than others. We sin. And God, in his kindness, has given us a tool to deal with it. To resolve the regret or shame left behind by those bad decisions. He has given us confession.
Mon, 13 Apr 2026 - 32min - 762 - 416: No More Condemnation
Hello, friend. Thank you for joining me this week. If you’ve missed some episodes or are just tuning in for the first time, this is a great place to start. We’re talking about what happens when grace happens, something I didn’t fully understand until I was years into ministry. I pray you understand it today.
Mon, 06 Apr 2026 - 27min - 761 - 415: The First Step Toward Forgiveness
Hi, friend. Welcome to the Encouraging Word Podcast. This week’s episode brings us to a story you’ve probably heard; you may even hear it this Holy Week. In John chapter 13, we read about Jesus washing his followers’ feet. This passage is often referred to when teaching about service or humility. But it also offers something else very important—how to respond to someone who hurts you.
Mon, 30 Mar 2026 - 26min - 760 - 414: How You Can Know for Sure God Loves You
Hello, friend. Thanks for joining me. In today’s episode we see how God not only forgives us—every sin, even those we never know we commit—but also invites us into his family. You are more than forgiven, my friend. You are beloved.
Mon, 23 Mar 2026 - 32min - 759 - 413: You Don't Have to Work For It
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re having a good day. Today’s Encouraging Word brings us one of Jesus’ most tender invitations: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” You need not wonder if you’ve out-sinned God’s grace, friend. You can rest.
Mon, 16 Mar 2026 - 27min - 758 - 412: Romance and Redemption
Thank you for joining me on the podcast today, friend. In this episode we’re going back to the Old Testament, to the story of Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz. Whether this story is new or familiar, I pray it reminds you that God is always at work and has a plan to rescue you.
Mon, 09 Mar 2026 - 32min - 757 - 411: Our Generous God
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re having a good day. I know Christmas was months ago, but I hope you’ll indulge my Dickensian illustration in today’s episode. The tale of Ebenezer Scrooge paints just the right picture and reminds us that the abundant grace of God has the power to un-Scrooge the most stubborn hearts.
Mon, 02 Mar 2026 - 29min - 756 - 410: Jesus Takes Your Place
Hello, friend. Welcome back to another Encouraging Word. In Luke 23 we read the account of Jesus appearing before Pilate, of Pilate finding no evidence to charge him, and the crowd demanding the release of another prisoner in exchange for Jesus. It’s a remarkable—and literal—picture of what Christ has done for us. He who was blameless took the place of he who was condemned.
Mon, 23 Feb 2026 - 31min - 755 - 409: The Problem with Being Good
Hi, friend! Thanks for joining me today on the podcast. The world invites us to work hard, achieve, and prove our worth – society kind of demands we do. The problem is, no one can tell us how much is enough. How many accomplishments or good deeds does it take to offset our blunders and bad days? We'll find the answer in Ephesians 2:8: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves; it is the gift of God.”
Mon, 16 Feb 2026 - 32min - 754 - 408: You Can’t Rescue Yourself
Hello, friend! I hope you’re doing well. In today’s Encouraging Word, we’re taking a look at the first appearance of grace in Scripture, and you might be surprised where it shows up. But the message is unchanged: grace is not up to the one receiving it. It’s up to the One giving it.
Mon, 09 Feb 2026 - 29min - 753 - 407: Inherit Your Inheritance
Hello, my friend! Thank you so much for joining me for another Encouraging Word. This week, we’re concluding our study of Joshua and the Israelites’ journey to the Promised Land. When I originally preached these messages at my church in San Antonio, Texas, we began each day with a Glory Days Declaration. I want to share it with you today and invite you to recite it with me—wherever you’re listening. Glory Days Declaration These days are Glory Days. My past is past. My future is bright. God’s promises are true, and His Word is sure. With God as my helper, I will be all He wants me to be, do all He wants me to do, and receive all He wants me to receive. These are Glory Days.
Mon, 02 Feb 2026 - 26min - 752 - 406: No Falling Words
Hello, friend! I hope you're having a good day! We are nearing the end of our series on the book of Joshua. If there is one thing I hope you take from these episodes, it's this—God keeps His promises! In a world where so many people let us down, God will always do what He says He will do. You can trust Him!
Mon, 26 Jan 2026 - 21min - 751 - 405: The God-Drenched Mind
Hello, friend! I sure hope you're doing well today! Being a Promised Land person does not guarantee you a problem-free life. In fact, it guarantees the opposite. In John 16:33, Jesus says, “In this world, you will have trouble.” Knowing that, what do you do? Follow the example of Caleb in Joshua, Chapter 14, and set your mind on a holy cause.
Mon, 19 Jan 2026 - 30min - 750 - 404: You Be You
Hello, my friend! Welcome back to The Encouraging Word Podcast. So much of the story of Joshua and Israelites is about getting to the Promised Land. But it doesn't end there – they are told to possess the land, to move in, to find their place and fulfill their assignment. And Jesus offers those same instructions to us today.
Mon, 12 Jan 2026 - 29min - 749 - 403: Pray Audacious Prayers
Hi, friend. Happy New Year! If you’re resolving to pray more this year — and shouldn’t we all? — this episode is for you. There is a remarkable story in Joshua chapter 10. While in battle, the Hebrews needed more daylight. Joshua asks God to stop the sun from setting, and God does. Verse 14 says, “God took orders from a human voice.” How’s that for a reminder that God listens to our prayers?
Mon, 05 Jan 2026 - 29min - 748 - A Special New Years Message from MaxMon, 29 Dec 2025 - 06min
- 747 - 402: Voices, Choices, and Consequences
Every day we choose who and what to listen to. There are hundreds of channels on our televisions, millions of people sharing their opinions online. But only one voice will guide you to the Promised Land. Choose to trust the voice of God.
Mon, 22 Dec 2025 - 24min - 746 - Christmas Bonus: A Willing Heart
Merry Christmas, friend! I pray this season brings you joy and peace and the hope that Christ, who came as a baby, is coming again.
Thu, 18 Dec 2025 - 17min - 745 - 401: The Danger of Disbelief
Hello, friend. Thank you for joining me for another Encouraging Word. What does trust have to do with greed? According to Joshua chapter 7, quite a lot. This passage reminds us that looking for security in anything or anyone other than God will always let us down.
Mon, 15 Dec 2025 - 25min - 744 - 400: Walking Circles Around Jericho
Today’s episode brings us to a familiar story in the Bible. Maybe you’ve sung the old song about Joshua fighting the battle of Jericho. But this story is about more than the Hebrews defeating the Canaanites. This is a story about fighting from a place of victory to defeat the strongholds in your life.
Mon, 08 Dec 2025 - 32min - 743 - 399: Call on Your Commander
You know what it's like to face difficulty. You have before and you will again. You may be, right now, facing a challenge so great that a solution feels impossible. If that sounds familiar, I encourage you to follow the example of Joshua — before you go into battle, call on your Commander.
Mon, 01 Dec 2025 - 25min - 742 - 398: Don't Forget to Remember
Hello, friend. I hope you’re doing well. This week we celebrate Thanksgiving, so I think today’s episode is especially fitting. In Joshua 4, just as many of us will do this week with family and friends, Joshua and the Hebrew people were instructed to pause and remember all God had done for them. And that act of gratitude prepared them for what came next.
Mon, 24 Nov 2025 - 31min - 741 - 397: Cross This Jordan
Hello, friend. I hope you’re well today. The last few episodes, we’ve seen Joshua and the Israelites face one obstacle after another. Well this week is a biggie – crossing the Jordan River. But this story isn’t just about getting from one side of a river to the other. It’s about how God delivers us from what stands between us and him.
Mon, 17 Nov 2025 - 29min - 740 - 396: It’s Ok if You’re Not Ok
Hi, friend. I hope you’re having a good day. Today’s episode brings us to one of the unlikeliest heroes of the Bible—Rahab. Maybe you know her story. Maybe you relate to her story. Nothing to lose, pulled from the bottom of the pit and pressed into service for God’s plan. God used her because she trusted him. May we all have that in common with Rahab.
Mon, 10 Nov 2025 - 27min - 739 - 395: Take God’s Word for It
Hello, friend. Thank you for joining me for another Encouraging Word. It can be difficult to tune out the negative voices around us. It can be difficult to tune out the negative voices in our own heads! If you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while, you know we just did a bunch of episodes about that. But thankfully, God has given us his Word, just as he gave Joshua and the Israelites, to help us know and heed his voice.
Mon, 03 Nov 2025 - 25min - 738 - 394: God Fights for You
Hi, friend. I sure hope you’re doing well. Last week I told a story about getting a gift from my dad. I have another story about my dad this week. You probably know by now that I love to tell stories about my dad. This story isn’t about getting a car. It’s about something he did for me when I was young that our Heavenly Father does for us now – he fights for us.
Mon, 27 Oct 2025 - 32min - 737 - 393: Yes, You Can
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re having a good day. In our human reasoning, Joshua had every reason to be uncertain. No one would have bet on the Hebrew people to conquer Canaan. But Joshua had one big thing going for him – God told him he would be victorious.
Mon, 20 Oct 2025 - 29min - 736 - 392: Glory Days
Hello, friend. I hope you’re doing well. If you’ve been listening to the podcast the past few weeks, you know we just wrapped up a series about managing our thought lives. This week we’re starting a new series I think will encourage you as you uproot negative thinking and replace it with truth. We’re going back to the Old Testament, to the story of Joshua and the children of Israel. You’ve never seen a group more stuck in a rut and trapped in destructive, negative thought patterns! But God had a Promised Land for them, and, friend, he has one for you too.
Mon, 13 Oct 2025 - 28min - 735 - 391: A New Way of Thinking
Hello, my friend. Thank you so much for joining me for another Encouraging Word. Today we’re wrapping up our series on thought management. If you’ve missed any episodes, I encourage you to go back and catch up. But here’s the big idea, as found in Ephesians 4:23-24: “Let the Spirit change your way of thinking and make you into a new person.”
Mon, 06 Oct 2025 - 31min - 734 - 390: When You’re Dealing with a Difficult Person
Hi, friend. I hope you’re doing well today. What do you do when those you live with are hard to live with? Maybe it’s your spouse, your siblings, your neighbors, your co-workers. We all have relationships that challenge us, and a difficult relationship can consume our thoughts. So let’s start there. To deal with a difficult person, consider how you think about them.
Mon, 29 Sep 2025 - 30min - 733 - 389: What to Do when Lust Lures You
Hi, friend. I hope you’re doing well. A quick note before we get into today’s episode, particularly if you listen in the car or where younger ears can hear. This message includes the reading of a painful story in the Old Testament and some pretty blunt language about the dangers of pornography. Consider this a heads-up if you want to adjust when or where you listen.
Mon, 22 Sep 2025 - 31min - 732 - 388: When Your Heart Needs Peace
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re having a good day. Anxiety. It’s an all-too-common part of our lives. The statistics, especially among young people, are staggering. I know there are legitimate concerns in our world that need attention. And I know there are times clinical intervention is the solution God provides to those who struggle. But I also know peace is possible.
Mon, 15 Sep 2025 - 30min - 731 - 387: When You Always Want More Than You Have
Hello, friend. I hope you’re having a good day. Today’s episode is a bit of a history lesson. We’re going back to first century Rome, to the time of the apostle Paul and the emperor Nero. Readers of the New Testament have learned a lot from Paul, but the life of Nero offers a critical lesson as well.
Mon, 08 Sep 2025 - 28min - 730 - 386: When You Battle Guilt
Hi, friend. Thanks for joining me for another episode of the Encouraging Word Podcast. If you’ve been listening to the podcast the past few weeks, you know we’re talking about finding a new way of living through better thinking. So maybe you’re ready to tackle some of those specific negative thought patterns that weigh us down. Guilt is a big one – all the should haves that hound us. But here’s the good news: God has given us a tool to help deal with our guilt.
Mon, 01 Sep 2025 - 31min - 729 - 385: How to Uproot and Replant Your Thoughts
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re well. What do you think of when you hear the word “meditation”? Perhaps a yoga class or quiet chanting or one of those mindfulness apps on your phone? You might think of the phrase “Clear your mind.” Well as you learn to tame your thoughts, you’ll discover that an empty mind is not the goal. When you banish the bad thoughts, seek to replace them with good thoughts. Meditate on God’s Word and fill your mind with his goodness.
Mon, 25 Aug 2025 - 29min - 728 - 384: Breaking Through Destructive Thought Patterns
Hi, friend. Thank you for joining me on the podcast this week. Today’s episode is about UFOs. No, not that kind. I’m using the term UFO to describe those destructive thought patterns that leave us stuck in what the Bible calls strongholds. But there is hope! When you learn to identify and deal with them, those scary, odd-looking UFOs will stop taking up space in your brain.
Mon, 18 Aug 2025 - 35min - 727 - Tame Your Thoughts Preview - When You Battle Anxiety
Hi friend, Max Lucado here. As an Encouraging Word listener, I want to share with you an exclusive preview of my new audiobook, Tame Your Thoughts. This message is for anyone who embraces the promise found in Romans 12:2 – “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” I pray it encourages you.
Tue, 12 Aug 2025 - 31min - 726 - 383: Think About What You Think About (Tame Your Thoughts Series)
Hello, friend. I hope you’re having a good day. We’re diving into a new topic this week on the Encouraging Word Podcast – thought management. Controlling your anger or managing your anxiety may seem like an impossible task at times, but it’s not! It’s a promise found in Scripture and backed up by neuroscience. With God’s help, you can tame each thought and become a person who thinks and acts more like Jesus.
Mon, 11 Aug 2025 - 26min - 725 - Tame Your Thoughts Preview - Practice Picky Thinking
Fri, 08 Aug 2025 - 32min - 724 - 382: Trust God, Really Trust Him
Hi, friend. Thank you so much for joining me for the podcast this summer. I hope this series has been an encouragement to you, particularly if you’re going through a difficult time. We’ve got some new stuff coming next week that I’m really excited about, but first we’re going to put a bow on our study of the life of Joseph. If there’s one thing you take from it, may it be this: we have a heavenly father who guides us with a sure hand.
Mon, 04 Aug 2025 - 24min - 723 - 381: How to Survive a Crisis
Hello, friend. Welcome to the Encouraging Word Podcast. Did you know the Bible has something to say about crisis management? That might feel like a modern construct, but it’s not. In Joseph’s life he faced multiple crises, including an extended, widespread famine. So how did he get through it? A two-pronged approach – he approached the crisis with faith and then came up with a plan.
Mon, 28 Jul 2025 - 26min - 722 - 380: The Prince Is Your Brother
Hello, friend. I hope you’re having a good day. Today’s episode brings us to a pivotal moment between Joseph and his brothers. If you don’t know what happens in the story, it powerfully illustrates what happens when the prince turns out to be your brother.
Mon, 21 Jul 2025 - 26min - 721 - 379: You Can Bounce Back
Hi, friend. Welcome to the Encouraging Word Podcast. If you’ve listened to the last few episodes, you’ve likely noticed a recurring theme: Joseph is resilient. He faced challenge after challenge, but kept bouncing back. How could he do that? Because he saw the bigger picture of an active, sovereign God.
Mon, 14 Jul 2025 - 26min - 720 - 378: Not Guilty Anymore
Hello, my friend. Thanks for joining me today. This summer on the podcast we’ve been studying the life of Joseph to learn how God helps us get through painful and difficult parts of life. This week we’re deviating a bit from Joseph to take a look at the role his brothers play in the story. Maybe as you’re listening you relate more to Jacob’s other sons. If that’s you, be encouraged, friend – God is still working.
Mon, 07 Jul 2025 - 25min - 719 - 377: Release Your Resentments
Hi, friend. I hope you’re doing well today. For anyone who’s ever been treated badly—in other words, everyone—Colossians 3:13 offers one of the New Testament’s most challenging admonitions: “even as Christ forgave you, so you must also do.” Really, God? you might think. I’m supposed to just forgive them? I know it’s not easy, and it won’t be a straight line. But, with God’s help, you will find the space of grace.
Mon, 30 Jun 2025 - 30min - 718 - 376: When Your Family Fails You
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re having a good day. Family pain has been around since, quite literally, the first family. The earliest chapters of Genesis introduce us to a crooked family tree. If you know family wounds, I think you’ll find some hope in Joseph’s story.
Mon, 23 Jun 2025 - 30min - 717 - 375: Why Gratitude Matters
Hi, friend. Welcome back to the Encouraging Word Podcast. Does gratitude matter to God? The Bible suggests it does. In Luke chapter 17 we read the story of Jesus healing ten lepers, and only one returns to thank him. But the one who comes back does so praising God. His gratitude made him joyful. Friend, the quickest way out of a tough day is through the door marked “thank you.”
Mon, 16 Jun 2025 - 26min - 716 - 374: Is God Only Good When the Outcome Is?
Hello, friend. Thanks for joining me. Let me ask you a question – is God good when life isn’t? I understand if that’s hard to answer. But I think today’s episode could help; I pray it does.
Mon, 09 Jun 2025 - 28min - 715 - 373: A Mind Focused on God
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re doing well. Today’s episode reminds us that God is the business of grand reversals. For Joseph, that meant prison one day, Pharaoh’s palace the next. I can’t imagine Joseph saw that big moment coming, but he was ready for it because he saw a big God.
Mon, 02 Jun 2025 - 27min - 714 - 372: Wait While God Works
Hello, my friend. I sure hope you’re having a good day. If you’re the type of person who listens to podcasts while you sit in traffic or stand in lines, today’s topic has a touch of irony—waiting. No one’s favorite activity. Especially when we’re waiting for deliverance from a painful circumstance. But may I remind you of the promise found in Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”
Mon, 26 May 2025 - 26min - 713 - 371: Trust God’s Training
Hi, friend. I hope you’re well today. Today we’re talking about tests. What do you do when you face a test? How do you respond? If you’re struggling to see the value in your struggle, try this: Don’t look at your test as an interruption to life, but as training for life. No one ever said the road would be easy or painless, but God will use this mess for good.
Mon, 19 May 2025 - 27min - 712 - 370: Do What Pleases God
Hello, friend. I hope you’re having a good day. Some of the most difficult challenges in life come our way thanks to bad luck, bad timing, or bad actors. And when we’re dealt a bad hand, it’s easy to justify our choices. To be tempted by shortcuts or quick fixes. When you find yourself in such a situation, be encouraged by the example of Joseph in Genesis 39 – do what pleases God.
Mon, 12 May 2025 - 29min - 711 - 369: God’s Presence, Your Passion
Hi, friend. Welcome back to the Encouraging Word Podcast. Today’s episode is for anyone who knows what it’s like to lose everything, who knows what it’s like to feel far from God. Listen to this promise found in Psalm 139: “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.” God is not far from you, my friend. He is with you.
Mon, 05 May 2025 - 31min - 710 - 368: Believe What God Believes About You
Hello, friend. Thanks for joining me. Today’s episode finds us in the pit with Joseph. Sold into slavery by his own brothers and sent to Egypt with nothing. Nothing except a dream given to him by God. No matter how dire his circumstances, nothing could take away the call of God on his life. And nothing can take away the call of God on yours, my friend.
Mon, 28 Apr 2025 - 24min - 709 - 367: You Will Get Through This
Hello, my friend. I hope you’re doing well today. For the next few episodes, we’ll be looking at the life of Joseph in the book of Genesis. He didn’t have it easy—abandoned, abused, wrongfully imprisoned. Perhaps you can relate to some of what Joseph faced. If so, I’m going to give you a sneak peek at the big promise of his story: with God’s help, you will get through this.
Mon, 21 Apr 2025 - 22min - 708 - A Good Friday Message
Hello Friend! I'm coming to you with a special bonus episode on this Good Friday. I pray you have a blessed Easter weekend. He is risen, indeed.
Fri, 18 Apr 2025 - 25min - 707 - 366: The Last Word on Life
We’ve arrived at Holy Week. This is the most significant week in the Christian calendar. In the coming days, someone will attend a church service for the first time. Someone will hear the gospel for the first time and choose to follow Jesus. And the celebration in heaven will be jubilant. We’ve spent the last few episodes discussing the promises of John 3:16. As we wrap up this series ahead of Easter Sunday, I want to talk to you about eternity—the reality of hell and the great hope of heaven. “Whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Mon, 14 Apr 2025 - 26min - 706 - 365: Heaven’s Whoever Policy
Hi, friend. I sure hope you’re doing well. Today’s episode zeroes in on one of my favorite words in John 3:16: “whoever.” Whoever believes in him. Such a wonderful promise. The gift of salvation and the hope of heaven is available to whoever believes. And who isn’t a “whoever”?
Mon, 07 Apr 2025 - 21min - 705 - 364: The Heart He Offers
Hello, friend. I hope you’re well today. No one is immune to the anxiety in our world. Global concerns—wars, catastrophic weather events, a worldwide pandemic still fresh in our memories. Personal concerns—mental health issues, relationship challenges, financial concerns. The bottom line is this: it’s not a good time to be at odds with God. A heart right with God can survive in a world gone wrong. But when the heart is alienated from God, there is no way for life to be right. My prayer for you today is that you have a very clear answer to that question: “Am I right with God?”
Mon, 31 Mar 2025 - 25min - 704 - 363: Hope For The Hard Heart
Hi, my friend. I hope you’re doing well today. For the next few weeks on the podcast, leading up to Easter, I’ll be sharing from one of my favorite verses. I’ve been asked what I would choose if I could only preach one topic or one passage for the rest of my life. I think this is it—John 3:16. The Hope Diamond of the Bible. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Mon, 24 Mar 2025 - 27min - 703 - 362: More Like Jesus: Forgiveness
This week on the podcast we're looking at what is, for many people, the challenge of life. Forgiving people who have hurt us. Forgiveness is not easy but, I believe with the Lord's help, the grace we have received from God can overflow into the lives of others.
Mon, 17 Mar 2025 - 23min - 702 - 361: More Like Jesus: Grace
Our topic for this episode is God's greatest gift to us, grace. I've preached a lot of sermons on grace, I've written a few books on grace, but I never get tired of talking about this gift of being made right with God through his grace. As perfectly summarized in 1 Corinthians 5:18-21, "All this is from God. Through Christ, God made peace between us and himself, and God gave us the work of telling everyone about the peace we can have with him. God was in Christ, making peace between the world and himself. In Christ, God did not hold the world guilty of its sins. And he gave us this message of peace. So we have been sent to speak for Christ. It is as if God is calling to you through us. We speak for Christ when we beg you to be at peace with God. Christ had no sin, but God made him become sin so that in Christ we could become right with God."
Mon, 10 Mar 2025 - 26min - 701 - 360: More Like Jesus: Prayer
This week on the podcast we’re turning our attention to a favorite passage of mine found in Matthew chapter 6: “Give us this day our daily bread.” No prayer better summarizes our relationship with God than this expression of trust. God’s treatment of fear has always been trust. These are fear-filled days, aren’t they? We see it in newscasts and on our neighbors’ faces. We’re anxious. So, I can’t think of a more appropriate phrase to focus on than this simple, profound prayer of trust.
Mon, 03 Mar 2025 - 22min - 700 - 359: More Like Jesus: Worship
What happens when we believed we are loved by God? What do we do? How do we act? Might I suggest that the primary purpose of the Christian is this: to worship. When we worship God for who he is and all he has done for us, it reinforces what we know to be true of God’s character, enables us to receive his love, and changes how we see the world as people made in his image.
Mon, 24 Feb 2025 - 22min - 699 - 358: More Like Jesus: Faithfulness
Our theme for today’s episode is faithfulness, and to help us understand the concept of faithfulness we’re looking at the life of Joseph. Joseph’s story reminds us that when we trust God and respond with faith, He can bring triumph from tragedy.
Mon, 17 Feb 2025 - 24min - 698 - 357: More Like Jesus: Love
This week is Valentine’s Day, so it feels appropriate to bring you an episode about love. February 14th may prompt us to show extra affection to those dearest to us, but what do we do when people are hard to love? May these words from the apostle John serve as an encouraging reminder: “Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
