Kids Bible Stories

Statistics are showing an increase of worry and anxiety in children.  This will be a little different from our usual episode but the Bible has a lot to say about this so we thought we should address it.  We will differentiate between fear, worry, and and anxiety and give each emotion their own episode. 

Today we discuss fear:

Are there good fears? ie; fear of fire, or fear of the Lord Can fear lie to us? Why does God tell us not to be afraid? What promise does he give with it

Kids Bible Stories Podcast: Episode - "Jesus: The True Light"

In today's episode, we explore the powerful message of Jesus as the ultimate beacon in our lives, shining brighter and truer than any other source. We learned that Jesus describes Himself as "the light of the world," offering us guidance, peace, love, forgiveness, and direction unlike any other. Unlike deceptive lights in the world, like the angler fish's lure, which may seem appealing but lead to harm, Jesus' light is always genuine and life-giving.

We also delved into how God's word acts as a lamp for our feet and a light on our path, guiding us through life's journey. This divine light isn't found in the shows we watch, the advice of friends, or the allure of commercials enticing us to desire material things. It's in the Bible, God's word, which always leads us toward what's truly good.

We discussed the importance of discerning between the misleading "lights" of the world—like the temptations of consumerism or messages that encourage disrespect—and the one true light, Jesus, who desires what's best for us. Remember, the next time you're faced with a decision or a direction, ask yourself: does this align with the light that Jesus offers?

Matthew 27, John18 & 19 , &  Luke 23

We begin our story with Jesus speaking with Pilate and end with the crucifixion.

-This was God's plan; there were no mistakes, no surprises. Jesus chose to lay down His life, and by doing so, Jesus took the weight of every sin, past, present, and future.

-It's not always as it seems. The cross is not the end of the story. We have hope because of what happened 3 days later!

Matthew 26:36-56

We continue our Easter series.  I respect each listener's ages and levels of understanding, so I have adapted some of these for the needs of our audience. Please go back and read the scriptures yourselves to include what is appropriate for your family.

This story begins in the garden of Gethsemane and ends with Jesus being arrested. We remember that Jesus could have whispered 1 word and 100’s of angels would have appeared to rescue him BUT he didn’t do this. Why?

Because He chose to. He chose to obey God b/c he loves God the father!!!! God’s plan had been there all along to rescue us b/c he loves us that much!

The children will be reminded that Jesus is always in control and that He loves them very much!

Hearing Jesus, the king of kings, serving and loving his disciples by washing their feet. Introduce the betrayal BUT remind kids that Jesus was not alarmed by this. Jesus knows everything and this isn't "throwing off his plans."  Learn the significance of the passover (We keep it age appropriate; if you want help talking further about the passover, head over to my IG @kidsbiblestories ) Explain the connection of the last supper and communion.

As always it will be a fun journey that engages the kids and is explained on their level so they can apply and remember it. We want them to know that God's word is for them, He loves them, and they can know Him!

Genesis 9:8-17

Genesis 8:15-19

We listen in as the ark becomes a hive activity. Even the animals must have sensed the excitement that they were getting close to exiting the ark! Oh to stretch their legs and run full speed using the strong legs God had given them!

We discuss what it must have been like to leave the known, safety of the ark for something new. Kids will consider times in their life when they experienced going from something known to the unknown and how we can trust God during it.

Genesis 8:6-12

In today's episode we hear Noah send out first the raven and then the dove. Will the birds bring back good news of dry and?

Genesis 8:1-5 & 2 Peter 3:9

The rain stops, God sends a wind that makes the water level decrease, and the ark hits solid ground as it sits atop a mountain! They may  have expected to step onto dry land immediately, but God had a different plan.

They waited 150 days on the ark as the waters slowly vanished.

We are reminded that even in the waiting, God was working. God never forgets & He is always faithful.

Genesis 7:11-20

The rain begins and continues for 40 days and 40 nights. Even though the ark goes through rough waters, Noah, his family, and the animals remain safe inside just as God promised. The kids will love hearing this one come to life!

Kids will be reminded that when they feel like life's storms are tossing them around, to:

remember Noah

remember the ark

and most importantly, remember that just as God protected Noah, and Jesus calmed the sea, God is still watching over you, keeping you safe in the storms of life.

How do I know I can trust him? Because of the cross. I look to it and  remember that God sent his only son, Jesus. That Jesus died on the cross and rose again. He rescued us when we couldn’t rescue ourselves. He loves you that much!

Genesis 7:1-10 & Ephesians 4:3  Your kids will love this one! Noah, his family, and allllll those animals wait for 7 days inside the ark for the rain to begin. Kids will note that lions were with lambs, cats with mice yet somehow, they got along. We will hear that God is all powerful; taking care of every single detail. Noah didn’t know how it was all going to work but God didn’t say he needed to know.  He just needed to have faith to do what he was called to do and God would take care of the rest: including making those animals get along. We also discuss how we are to "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." In our last episode, we discovered that the world had gone wrong, and today we are going to learn how God used Noah who seemed ordinary, but he faithfully walked with God.

We put ourselves in Noah's shoes considering what it may have felt like to be him. Noah probably recognized  how big this mission was going to be. He would have considered the practical challenges of constructing an ark of such colossal proportions. It may have felt both awe-inspiring and scary yet Noah trusted God and obeyed Him.

Today Elijah finds the man who will be taking his place… Elisha. Elijah throws his cloak onto Elisha symbolizing that he is next....tagging him to take his place.

We discuss that when God called Elisha, he was doing normal, every day work. Sometimes our work or tasks may seem "normal"( ie: learning to read, helping with the dishes, etc) BUT they all have purpose when we do them with excellence to glorify God AND often God uses those things to prepare us for what's next.

In last weeks Elijah episode, we heard that God spoke to Elijah  in a whisper and kids have been asking, "Does God still speak to us today?" I will do my best to answer that question today!

1. During Elijah's time, they didn't have the entire Bible.

2. The Holy Spirit was sent after Jesus' resurrection (Acts 2:1-4)

3. We have the entire Bible, the written word of God now.

4. Now, believers have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside us (John 14:25-26)

On today's episode we find Elijah hiding in the cave. Instead of hearing God fuss at Elijah, we hear him as a gentle, loving father asking Elijah what he is doing there. Wind blows, the earth quakes, and fire burns; we see God's mighty power on display but even in that, he is still found in the whisper. God is close enough that Elijah can hear his whisper.

1 Kings 19:1-8

As you have followed along with our Elijah series you've probably noticed Elijah has been obeying God and doing the right things, but today he gets some scary news from Jezebel and now Elijah says he has had enough.

God's response to Elijah's cry is beautiful. He doesn't downplay Elijah's feelings or scold him. Instead, he sends an angel to provide food and water. When we are hungry and tired, our emotions can run wild. Sometimes it's those simple provisions of food, water, and rest that seem simple but are exactly what we need for our strength.

The kids will hear that Elijah was a real human with real feelings and fears; real needs like food and rest. When we feel like we've had enough, we can talk honestly to God just like Elijah did and God will be right there to listen and comfort us too.

1 Kings 18:40-46 & James 5:17 Today we hear Elijah tell Ahab that the drought is finally ending. Elijah knows the rain is coming but it is not until the seventh time that his servant makes the trip to the sea that there are signs of rain. Elijah faithfully waits and sends his servant to look over and over again. God was with Elijah when things happened immediately like in last week's episode, BUT He's also with him in the waiting. I point out that the Bible says that Elijah was a man like us. That gives us encouragement that we too can pray fervently as he did. This episode is full of action when Ahab and Elijah meet again. Elijah asks the people "How long will you try to serve both Baal and God?" The people have wandered from God and God is calling them back to His loving arms. Elijah has set a challenge; their Baal versus God. Tune in to see what happens.

Today we meet faithful Obadiah who hid the Lord's prophets in caves to protect them from Jezebel. We connect Obadiah's actions to what St Augustine said,  “ Right is right even if no one is doing it; wrong is still  wrong even if everyone else is doing it.”

Many of you are about to start a brand new school year. As you start, I want you to remember the story of Obadiah and Elijah. Some days at school you may feel like your family is the only one who thinks and acts the way God wants us to, it’s still right even if it seems like you’re the only one AND remember this, the enemy would love for you to believe the lie that you’re the only ones left doing what is right, loving and obeying God. That is not true though. In today's story and all throughout the Bible you can hear over and over again that there is always a remaining group of people who love and follow Jesus. You aren’t alone.

Today we hear God tell Elijah to go to the widow that he has commanded to feed him. Remember, the drought is still happening so food is scarce. The widow was a real woman with real feelings and fears. Elijah's request required the widow to practice faith. She had to choose to walk by faith and not by sight. Tune in to hear how she handles it, if God keeps his word (spoiler alert, He always does,) and how God can use you just as he used the widow.

Luke 4:1-13

This is part 1 in our short series where we find Jesus being tempted in the desert by the devil. We will learn that  the devil is always a slick and slimy one trying to twist God's words. The devil tries to tempt Jesus into proving that He really is God's son. Of course Jesus is God's son! Jesus knows this truth and does not need to prove anything to the devil so He does not fall for it. We learn that we too can remember the truth of whose we are: we are loved children of God. We apply this truth to help us w/ pride or the feeling to prove ourselves.

Out of respect for each families ages and stages of life, I have adapted some of this. Please go back and read the scriptures yourself to see what’s appropriate for your family.  The Solomon episodes also build upon themselves so please go back and listen to ones you may have missed.

Today we went through a little bit of a family tree as we followed the kings. We find that most of these kings follow in their father's footsteps and do not follow God. Nevertheless we hear that God does not withdraw His love and is faithful. He kept Jerusalem safe, sticking to His promise we heard Him give David many episode ago. The kids are reminded that God's love never changes. We see this evidence as we hear today's events and read Psalm 136.

Today we hear King Jeroboam's hand suddenly become paralyzed but then miraculously healed when the man of God prays for it. This still does not change Jeroboam's heart and he continues to do evil. We take note that even though Jeroboam still seems like the bad guy, the man of God prayed for him. The kids are reminded to think about someone they know who is far from God and to pray for that person this week.

1 Kings 12:20-24 & Romans 14:11
The kingdom is divided: Solomon’s son Rehoboam is king over the southern kingdom, Judah while Jeroboam is king over northern kingdom, Israel. King Rehoboam is not happy about this and assembles an army to win back his kingdom. Will they battle OR does God have a different plan for their lives? We discuss the fact that God says "This is my doing." We are reminded God is always in control and has plans for our lives even when we can't always see it or feel it. We can trust his control and His plans. Why do I trust Him? I trust Him because I can look to the cross to see the His rescue plan for us. The cross reminds me of the cost Jesus paid, the love we are given, and the salvation we didn't earn or deserve. All of this reminds me, I can trust God's plans.

1 Kings 12:1- 17 

Today we hear how the kingdom becomes divided and review the sections each king rules, it's name, and the tribes of each. We also point out that the Bible says these events are brought about by the Lord, that He might fulfill his word, which the Lord spoke by Ahijah to Jeroboam. It reminds me there will be times in life where it's not always as it seems. I imagine some in the kingdom were upset and concerned that the kingdom was dividing, but we can trust that God is in complete control. He just told them that the  situation  they are going through was from Him. He was still in control and had plans that they couldn’t quite understand.

Though Solomon sinned, making us wonder how the promise could ever be kept, the kids will see the Gospel woven throughout the Bible as they hear again the promise is fulfilled in the one who was born that Christmas day....Jesus. Jesus Christ will sit on the throne and His kingdom will have no end. What wonderful news!

 Today we begin to comprehend just how wealthy Solomon was. With his wealth and his wisdom, Solomon tells us anything he saw and wanted, he got. This might sound incredible but Solomon learned a very valuable lesson that everything is meaningless without God. Things or fame, none of that will satisfy us fully because what we are really searching for is God. The Creator of our souls is the one who satisfies us. The kids will hear examples of this so they can begin to understand how this applies to their own lives.

We are continuing our Solomon series. If you’ve missed a few, I'd highly recommend you go back and listen as they build upon themselves.Today's episode picks up after Solomon completed the temple (episode # 280). We listen in as Solomon prays to the Lord and hear what the Lord says to Solomon in return. The Lord warns him and his descendants not to turn away from Him, not to wander and serve other gods. The kids will begin to understand that out of His love, God gives us rules and consequences. When he tells us to do something it's because it's for our own good! He wants to protect us and He offers us things that are real, lasting, and loving versus other things that have fake promises. I try to help the children connect these dots with real life examples they can understand.

 Today we hear Solomon build a magnificent temple for the Lord. Below, there are links you can visit to see a video of what Solomon's temple looked like.
  We hear how  marvelous Solomon's temple was but the kids are reminded that Solomon didn't need to earn God's love and neither do we. 1 John 4:19 "We love because He first loved us."  God chose to love us first, we didn’t have to earn it by becoming rich and famous or building the most impressive building.  Sometimes people will only be kind or loving if they are first shown that. For example, you will only share your bike if they first share their rollerblades. That's not how God works. He shares His love with us first!

Today we hear that King Jehoshaphat and his people faced a war which they didn't want to be a part of. They still gave thanks to God during the tough time, even before the war was won.  We also briefly discuss the origins of the Thanksgiving holiday and learn that the pilgrims and those in our Bible story had a lot of sad and hard things they could’ve focused on, yet they chose to look for some good things to thank God for. This doesn’t mean we have to put on a happy face or ignore sad feelings; it means we still trust that God is good, He loves us, and we can be thankful for that even in sad times. We will hear a special ending as our wonderful listeners chime in on what they are thankful for.

Today will be different than our normal Bible stories because we are doing a special episode to explore the  large world our God has made, learn about the people he created, and hear how we are the same and different.  Sometimes, we can get caught up in seeing just our little world and forget that not everyone lives the way we do. We explore the world as we hear about a group of children in the Philippines and how they get to school. Everyone gets to see just how big the world is, but how connected we are in Jesus.

Matthew 15:29-39

Matthew 14:13-21

Today, we begin a series about compassion. We begin by defining it and seeing how Jesus showed us how to be compassionate through His actions. Jesus had just received some sad news about John the Baptist but despite this, he had compassion on the crowd. He healed the sick and fed them too. There is so much to learn from this story that we will do it again in the future to accommodate talking about more of it. The kids will be prompted to consider how they can show compassion to others.

Acts 27:21-44 

 We pick up from last week's story where we find Paul on rough seas as he journeys to visit Caesar. Paul tells everyone about God's promise He has given him......and guess what!??!??! Every single one of those promises comes true! We discuss that God has given us promises too and read some of these from our Bible today. While we hopefully won't be on a creaky boat with waves crashing all around, we too have times where life feels stormy. The kids are encouraged to memorize some of God's promises so we can cling to them when life does get a bit stormy.

Acts 25:10-12 & 27:1-26

 This episode introduces Paul and gives a brief history about who he is. Paul is falsely being accused of breaking the law so he asked to be sent to Caesar, since he is a Roman citizen, and discuss his case with him. Today's story picks up here on this exciting journey. Paul boards the creaky ship bound for Italy but on the journey, they encounter rough seas. We will hear the promise God gives Paul and how Paul trusts God even in the storm. It ends in suspense so we will continue this story next week.

Luke 19:1-10

This is the classic story of Zacchaeus  who was lost but then, he was saved by Jesus. We all have been lost but there’s good news because  Jesus came to save you and me too. The kids will learn how a tax collector was viewed so they can understand what a big deal it was when Jesus asked to go to Zacchaeus' house.

This is not our typical episode. I realized I have not updated how my 5yr old son has been doing. I know so many of you have helped join me in prayer and for that, I am beyond grateful. I wanted to say thank you & give a short update. Though there have been hard times,  God has provided so much for us; whether that's resources, some good medical news, or how He has grown us. Matthew 6:19-21, 24 & Luke 12:13-15

 In today's story we hear Jesus teach "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”We discuss what greed actually is and share an example from my childhood that the kids can relate to. We must be on our guard as Jesus says, because often the world we live in tells us the opposite. It says your life is cool, amazing, and valuable IFyou buy this thing or that thing. It is not wrong to want things.. we simply must be cautious that we don't become greedy with our wants. God wants us to trust that He will give us all we really need. He gives us reasons to trust him AND explains why his ways are best which will be discussed on the next episode.

Mark 12:41- 44

This is the beginning of our short series on money. We discuss what we mean when we talk about our "hearts." Today, we hear the story of the poor widow giving out of her poverty. If we quantified it, she gave less than others BUT Jesus still says she gave more than all those who contributed to the offering box. Hmmmm. What does this mean? Well, tune in to today's story to see why it's not the size of the gift that matters.

John 20:17-31

Jesus had risen and his followers got to see him! All were overjoyed except the 1 who  wasn't there when Jesus came. Thomas had missed this incredible meeting and doubted what his friends were telling him. We note that Thomas was a real person just like us & like him, we can always talk to Jesus about our questions or doubts.  Will Jesus come back to show Thomas too?!? Mark 1:41-45 & 2:1-12

Today, we hear a paralyzed man get lowered from the roof in hopes to get in front of Jesus and be healed. I wonder if the paralyzed man was disappointed when the 1st thing Jesus says to him is "Young man, your sins are forgiven.” What? They had gone through all this trouble to have him walk again…what was this about sins?  As we continue the story, Jesus shows us that the biggest issue is our sin but the good news is that He can forgive them. We are reminded of the love He has for us as evidenced by the sacrifice He made to forgive us.

Philippians 4:4-8

In today's story, we hear a letter from our friend Paul. He reminds us that when we feel nervous or anxious,  we should notice what we are thinking about. Sometimes our minds can run wild with crazy thoughts that just aren't true or good. Our feelings can lead us astray at times.

We will do something special today, and hear a short story about a girl named Kayleigh. Kayleigh is nervous about having to speak in front of her class BUT she remembers the Bible story her mom just read from Paul. Tune in to hear the story in action.

Have you ever wanted what someone else had or to be like someone else? Well you are not alone. The Israelites demand to have a king because everyone else has a king. They are caught in the comparison trap. God reminds us that He is our King and that He loves us just how we are. Comparison can destroy contentment: it will grow either pride or bitterness. God wants us to look at Him instead of everybody else.

The Israelites learn to love God more than all of their stuff. God is faithful and helps them win the battle. Everyone rejoices as the Ark of the Lord's Covenant is returned and there is now peace for them. What a faithful God!

We return to our story to find the Philistines now want to get rid of the Ark of the Covenant. God is sooo mighty that he ruins their plans to keep the Ark and in doing so, God reminds EVERYONE of just how powerful He is.
