- 168 - Celtic 0-1 Rangers | 'On The Road To Nowhere.' | Full-Time Reaction
Celtic 0-1 Rangers - another damaging defeat in a big game as the pressure continues to build on Martin O’Neill and this Celtic team. Paul, Lee and Callum give their full-time reaction after Rangers win at Celtic Park, with Celtic once again struggling badly in possession, out of possession and in attacking transition. Martin O’Neill changed the shape and made surprise personnel decisions, including starting Luke McCowan, but Celtic still looked disjointed and short of a clear plan. We discuss whether the team selection smacked of desperation, Celtic’s inability to build attacks, the lack of structure when possession is lost, Callum McGregor’s current role and why Rangers were able to control long periods of the game without doing anything particularly extraordinary. Across Celtic’s biggest games this season, the same issues keep appearing, and rather than improving, the performances appear to be getting worse. With the international break now arriving, serious questions have to be asked about the direction of the team, Martin O’Neill’s future and the wider football structure at Celtic. 🍀 In this episode: • Celtic 0-1 Rangers reaction • Martin O’Neill’s team selection questioned • Why the change of shape failed • Luke McCowan’s surprise start • Celtic’s lack of attacking structure • Why Rangers constantly threatened in transition • Callum McGregor’s performance • Celtic’s inability to win second balls • Just one shot across 180 minutes against Rangers • Why the performances are getting worse • Martin O’Neill’s future • Celtic’s wider lack of direction • Recruitment and squad-building problems • What has to change after the international break? Sun, 20 Sep 2026 - 167 - Celtic v Rangers | We Have to Win This Game. | Starting XI Prediction
Celtic face Rangers at Celtic Park in a massive Scottish Premiership derby after a damaging run of performances in the biggest games of the season. In today’s Starting XI Prediction, we look at how Celtic respond after defeats to Rangers and Ferencváros, with pressure now building on Martin O’Neill and his players. The biggest concern is no longer one isolated bad result. Celtic have now repeatedly looked open, fragile and disjointed against stronger opposition, conceding heavily in the biggest tests of the season and struggling badly in defensive transition. Can Celtic finally tighten things up, win the midfield battle and produce the reaction supporters have been waiting for? We discuss the goalkeeper decision between Sinisalo and Sam Johnstone, the problems at centre-back, whether Oxlade-Chamberlain can bring more control alongside Callum McGregor, the lack of balance in midfield and what Celtic’s front three should look like. There’s also a wider discussion around Martin O’Neill, Celtic’s lack of a clear long-term direction and why Sunday feels like a huge moment in the context of the season. 🍀 In this episode: • Celtic v Rangers preview • Celtic Starting XI Prediction • Why the pressure is building • Celtic’s recurring big-game problems • 11 goals conceded across three major defeats • Why Celtic are so vulnerable in transition • Martin O’Neill’s tactical challenge • Why Celtic need to get back to basics • Sinisalo or Sam Johnstone? • Trusty or Scales at centre-back? • Celtic’s midfield balance • McGregor and Oxlade-Chamberlain together • Nygren’s role questioned • Duran, Forrest and Kasper Høgh • Why Celtic simply have to respond Let us know your predicted Celtic XI and scoreline below. Sat, 19 Sep 2026 - 166 - Celtic 1-3 Ferencvaros | 'We're Too Easy to Play Against.' | Full-Time Reaction
Celtic 1-3 Ferencváros — another damaging European night at Celtic Park as the same tactical problems surface again. Paul and Chris give their full-time reaction after Celtic lose their Europa League opener, just four days after the 3-0 defeat at Ibrox. Celtic started brightly but quickly lost control of the game, with familiar problems appearing both in and out of possession. Defensive errors, poor positioning, a lack of structure without the ball and an inability to manage difficult periods once again left Celtic exposed. We discuss Liam Scales’ performance, Cameron Carter-Vickers’ difficult night, Callum McGregor’s role, James Forrest emerging as one of the few positives and why Celtic continue to look like a team without a clear identity. There’s also a wider discussion about recruitment, Martin O’Neill’s tactical approach, Celtic’s inability to change games effectively and why simply signing a defensive midfielder won’t solve the deeper structural issues. Three of Celtic’s biggest tests this season — away to LASK, away to Rangers and now Ferencváros at home — have produced 11 goals conceded and just two scored. With Rangers visiting Celtic Park on Sunday, where does the reaction come from? 🍀 In this episode: • Celtic 1-3 Ferencváros reaction • Another damaging European defeat • Celtic’s lack of defensive structure • Liam Scales and Carter-Vickers struggle • Why Celtic are too easy to play against • The recurring problems from LASK and Ibrox • Celtic’s lack of a clear style or identity • Callum McGregor’s role questioned • James Forrest the standout Celtic performer • Why Celtic can’t manage difficult periods • The problem with changing formation • Duran and Høgh together • Celtic’s summer recruitment questioned • Martin O’Neill’s in-game management • Can Celtic respond against Rangers? Thu, 17 Sep 2026 - 165 - Celtic v Ferencvaros | 'Formation Changes Won’t Fix This' | Starting XI Prediction
Celtic return to action just four days after the damaging defeat at Ibrox as Martin O’Neill’s side begin their Europa League campaign against Ferencváros. But this is about much more than simply bouncing back from one bad result. In today’s Starting XI Prediction, we look at the tactical problems that have repeatedly surfaced in Celtic’s biggest games this season — from the Champions League defeat against LASK to Sunday’s performance at Ibrox. What is Celtic’s actual style of play? Are the team caught between playing out from the back and Martin O’Neill’s more direct approach? And do the current squad have the characteristics required to execute either system effectively? We discuss Celtic’s problems in possession, the inability to play through pressure, Kasper Høgh’s role, the lack of support around the striker, the midfield’s defensive vulnerabilities and the bigger issue of a team that increasingly looks like a collection of individuals rather than a coherent unit. There are also major Starting XI decisions to make, including Sam Johnstone or Sinisalo in goal, Trusty or Scales at centre-back, whether Oliver Sørensen should come into midfield and how Celtic structure the attack around Camilo Duran, Hassan and Kasper Høgh. Can Celtic respond against Ferencváros and begin fixing the tactical problems that have already cost them in the biggest games this season? 🍀 In this episode: • Celtic v Ferencváros preview • Celtic Starting XI Prediction • Reaction to the tactical problems exposed at Ibrox • Why Celtic look caught between two styles • Problems playing out from the back • Why the direct approach isn’t working either • Kasper Høgh being used incorrectly • Celtic’s inability to press effectively • Why the midfield keeps getting exposed • Concerns over Celtic’s in-game management • Does this team have a clear identity? • Sam Johnstone or Sinisalo? • Trusty returns to the predicted XI • Oliver Sørensen into midfield? • Nygren’s defensive contribution questioned • Duran, Hassan and Høgh in attack • Why formation changes alone won’t fix Celtic Let us know your Starting XI for Ferencváros and what tactical changes you want to see from Celtic. Wed, 16 Sep 2026 - 164 - Rangers 3-0 Celtic | 'This Team Has No Identity.' | Post-Match Pint
Rangers 3-0 Celtic — a disastrous afternoon at Ibrox as Celtic crash out of the League Cup after being comprehensively second best. Paul, Callum and Darren react from Malone’s Glasgow after a performance that raised major questions about Martin O’Neill’s team selection, Celtic’s tactical identity and the recurring problems against the ball that have already been exposed in Europe this season. Celtic struggled from the opening minutes, repeatedly inviting pressure by playing backwards, making unforced errors in possession and failing to cope with Rangers through midfield. We discuss the controversial decision not to start Hassan, Sam Johnstone’s difficult afternoon, Celtic’s lack of defensive structure and why the problems go far beyond individual mistakes. After the collapse in Austria earlier this season, was this really another wake-up call — or further evidence of problems that Celtic have failed to address? With Rangers coming to Celtic Park next weekend, Martin O’Neill now has major decisions to make. 🍀 In this episode: • Rangers 3-0 Celtic reaction • Celtic crash out of the League Cup • Why Celtic were second best at Ibrox • Martin O’Neill’s starting XI questioned • The decision to leave Hassan out • Sam Johnstone’s nightmare afternoon • Celtic’s repeated mistakes playing from the back • Does this Celtic team have a clear identity? • Why Celtic are so vulnerable through midfield • Callum McGregor’s role questioned • Celtic’s failure to react tactically • Rangers exploiting Celtic’s weaknesses • Why Kasper Høgh isn’t being used to his strengths • Duran’s best position • Celtic’s lack of defensive midfield options • What must change before next weekend’s derby? Celtic travel to Ibrox for a huge League Cup quarter-final against Rangers — with no away supporters inside the stadium and major selection decisions facing Martin O’Neill. In today’s Starting XI Prediction, we look at how Celtic should approach the first of a domestic double-header against Rangers, with the league meeting at Celtic Park following just seven days later. Celtic’s recent form has remained strong in terms of results, but there are still questions around the team’s defensive structure, particularly against the ball and through midfield. After the collapse in Austria and some open moments in recent domestic games, can Celtic tighten things up enough for a high-pressure derby at Ibrox? We also discuss Celtic’s record at Ibrox without away supporters, why the first goal could be crucial, Sam Johnstone’s chances of keeping his place in goal, the Trusty v Scales decision, Martin O’Neill’s midfield dilemma and what Celtic’s new-look front three could be. 🍀 In this episode: • Rangers v Celtic League Cup quarter-final preview • Celtic Starting XI Prediction • No away supporters at Ibrox • Celtic’s record at Ibrox with zero away fans • Why the first goal could be massive • Celtic’s recent form assessed • Concerns about Celtic against the ball • Can Celtic avoid being exposed through midfield? • Sam Johnstone or Sinisalo in goal? • Trusty v Scales at centre-back • Kieran Tierney returns • McGregor, Nygren, Baur or Oxlade-Chamberlain? • Why midfield is the biggest selection headache • Can Celtic press Rangers effectively? • Duran, Hassan and Kasper Høgh • Celtic’s threat on the counter attack • Martin O’Neill’s biggest team selection decisions Let us know your predicted Celtic XI and scoreline in the comments. Celtic make it four wins from four after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over St Johnstone in Perth - but it was far from convincing. We react at full-time as Martin O’Neill’s much-changed Celtic side struggle to find their rhythm, particularly during a flat first half, before eventually finding the breakthrough after the interval. There were valuable minutes for several new and returning players, but plenty to discuss around Celtic’s lack of intensity, the press, how easily St Johnstone were able to play through midfield and whether the team is ready for the bigger tests ahead. We discuss a brilliant performance from Yang, Camilo Duran’s role in the winner, Celtic’s character after going behind and the threat St Mirren posed throughout an open and difficult game. Celtic travel to Paisley to face St Mirren in a top-of-the-table Scottish Premiership clash — but there’s plenty to discuss before a ball is kicked. In today’s Starting XI Prediction, we look at Celtic’s team selection for the trip to St Mirren, the latest injury situation, the new signings pushing for minutes and Martin O’Neill’s big decisions ahead of a demanding run of fixtures. We also discuss the SPFL decision to ban away supporters from all Celtic v Rangers fixtures this season, including the upcoming cup tie, and whether removing away fans is really the best long-term solution for one of football’s biggest derbies. There’s also reaction to Celtic’s Europa League squad, with three new signings omitted. Fri, 04 Sep 2026 - 158 - Did Celtic Get It Right? | Summer 2026 Recruitment Breakdown
Celtic’s summer transfer window is officially over — so how should we assess the club’s business after 10 new arrivals, major departures and another Champions League qualification failure? Paul and Stuart review the entire Celtic transfer window, focusing on the striking difference between the first four signings of the summer and the six players brought in during the final 24 hours of European registration. The early arrivals appeared to signal a more targeted recruitment strategy: younger players, strong first-team experience, Champions League pedigree and significant resale potential. But after Celtic’s exit against LASK, the profile changed dramatically as loan deals, inexperienced prospects and short-term solutions arrived late in the window. We discuss whether that represents sensible adaptation or another example of Celtic being underprepared when it mattered most. There’s also a detailed look at the finances. Celtic spent approximately £32.5m including potential add-ons, but major sales including Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda and others pushed outgoing transfer income towards £47m — leaving the club once again in a substantial transfer profit despite significant cash reserves. Was this the summer Celtic finally modernised their recruitment? Or did another promising start ultimately fall victim to the same problems around timing, structure and ambition? 🍀 In this episode: • Reviewing all 10 Celtic summer signings • The major difference between the first four and final six arrivals • Camilo Duran’s huge early impact • Kasper Høgh and Celtic’s improved attacking options • Why the post-LASK recruitment looked completely different • Celtic’s midfield rebuild • Did Celtic properly replace Arne Engels and Daizen Maeda? • Approximately £32.5m spent versus £47m received • Why Celtic remain in transfer profit • Should Celtic have spent more before the Champions League qualifiers? • The failure to properly strengthen before facing LASK • Celtic’s long-running defensive midfield problem • Why Callum McGregor succession planning matters • Is Celtic’s recruitment structure still outdated? • Does the club need a sporting director? • Recruitment quality rated out of 10 • Squad management rated out of 10 • Timing and planning rated out of 10 • Financial ambition rated out of 10 • Our final Celtic transfer-window score Let us know your own rating for Celtic’s summer transfer window in the comments — and score the club on recruitment quality, squad management, timing and planning, and financial ambition. Fri, 28 Aug 2026 - 154 - ERMIN MAHMIĆ TO CELTIC?!: HAS RECRUITMENT FINALLY CHANGED FOR THE BETTER?
Celtic could be closing in on another major summer signing, with 21-year-old Bosnia midfielder *Ermin Mahmić* linked with an €8m move from Slovan Liberec. We look at what Mahmić could bring to Celtic, why his profile fits the club’s changing recruitment strategy and whether he could ultimately be viewed as a long-term successor to Benjamin Nygren. After starring for Bosnia at the World Cup and scoring eight goals at club level last season, Mahmić looks to fit the pattern of Celtic targeting younger, first-team ready players with significant potential and resale value. We also reflect on Celtic’s superb *3-0 Champions League win over LASK*, the performances of Camilo Duran, Benjamin Nygren and Mika Baur, and why qualification for the Champions League could provide the ultimate validation of this summer’s recruitment. Fri, 14 Aug 2026 - 148 - Kilmarnock 1-5 Celtic | 'A NEW HERO!' | Full-Time Reaction
Kilmarnock 1-5 Celtic full-time reaction from Rugby Park as Kasper Høgh scores a stunning first-half hat-trick and Celtic produce their best performance of the new Scottish Premiership season. After a laboured 1-0 win over Dundee, this was a completely different Celtic performance. The movement, intensity and attacking play were far sharper, with Høgh at the centre of everything. Celtic’s record signing showed exactly why the club spent big to bring him in. Three goals inside the penalty area, intelligent movement, excellent hold-up play and an immediate connection with the Celtic support — could Kasper Høgh be the striker who transforms this team? We discuss Høgh’s hat-trick, Celtic’s improved midfield performance, a much better showing from Arne Engels and another impressive display from Kieran Tierney. Alistair Johnston was also a constant attacking threat from right-back, while Camilo Duran showed further encouraging signs as Celtic’s attacking options begin to take shape. Despite the emphatic scoreline, there are still concerns around squad depth. Celtic’s starting XI looked strong, but the drop-off after substitutions highlighted why further transfer business is still required ahead of the Champions League qualifiers. Can Celtic build on this performance? Have they finally found the striker they’ve been missing? And how many more players need to arrive before the transfer window closes? Sun, 21 Dec 2025 - 96 - Celtic v Aberdeen | Dangers of Experimentation | Starting XI Prediction
Celtic take on Aberdeen tomorrow at Celtic Park in a game that already feels like make or break for Wilfried Nancy. Four games into Wilfried Nancy's tenure and results haven’t gone our way, and while writing off a manager this early would seem ridiculous at most clubs, as we know Celtic isn’t most clubs. Aberdeen come to Celtic Park in decent form, unbeaten in seven league games, while Celtic are very much still trying to find any rhythm in this 3-4-3 setup. There’s also the bigger question around experimentation — learning about your squad in competitive matches comes with pitfalls and it feels like those are playing out in front of our eyes. 00:00 Are These 'Red Flags'? 06:44 Aberdeen Form & Preview 09:07 Starting XI 👇 Drop your Starting XI in the comments 👇 Are you comfortable with the level of experimentation, or is it costing us already? Wed, 05 Nov 2025 - 78 - Celtic 3-1 Rangers | 'O'NEILL HAS REJUVENATED CELTIC!' | Post-Match Pint
Join Paul, Callum and Darren as they react to Celtic's 3-1 extra time win in the League Cup Semi-Final over Rangers. Celtic took the lead just before the half hour mark with a brilliant header from Johnny Kenny, guiding home a pinpoint Engels corner. Theo Aasgaard then saw red for a high challenge on Anthony Ralston, leaving Rangers with 10 men and more than an hour to play. The Hoops lost control of the game in the second period allowing Rangers back into it, and they equalised after a controversial handball decision was given against Ralston as he tried to block a Gassama shot on goal. Tavernier scored to level the game with less than 10 minutes of normal time remaining. In a game of many chances, Celtic passed up numerous excellent openings to kill the game in the second half - but Rangers also produced a couple of decent opportunities of their own. Into extra time and Callum McGregor's rifled shot from the edge of box had too much power for Jack Butland, who was helpless to prevent it flying into the roof of his net. At 2-1, Celtic had the lead again and this time they did eventually find a third to seal the game through Callum Osmand's first senior goal. Learn more about your ad choices.
