Full disclosure, this episode isn’t exactly “cheap” but it was necessary. Paul is having a bit of a tough time at the moment, and wanted to do something where he could let off some steam and have some genuine fun… So, on his own dime, Paul has paid for him and Eli to have a day out at one of the UK’s best known theme parks, Thorpe Park in Surrey. It’s been a long time since either of the Cheap Chaps had visited Thorpe Park, so now is a good time to check out the big, scary rides that exist past the turnstiles! They’ve only got a little over 5 hours, so they’ll cram in as much as they can. Paul can’t get enough of the most intense, thrilling rides at the park, but Eli may be a little more reluctant to be thrown about. This year, Gannon may have pushed his luck a bit too far. A few years ago, they headed out into the sun for a boozy bunk off episode, and Paul wanted to recreate that this week, but Eli (rightly) thinks it’s a bad idea. It’s made worse by Paul’s insistence to do a bit of geocaching when all Eli wants to do is find shade and eat fatty food and drink. We’re back on the spinning platters trip this week, with a few more vinyl discoveries to throw your ears towards. Eli is obsessed with his first choice, a nice bit of musical poetry that folds in an infamous tongue twister into the mix. However, it becomes more apparent that what Eli actually likes best about this track, is the cover art. Yes, it appears to be a buxom lady furiously plucking a pheasant, but Eli finds deeper, more lurid images within the frame. It’s time to dive into another book in this week’s CheapShow! Thanks to a kind listener, Paul has gotten his hands on a book called “London Lore” by Steve Roud. It tells of the tall tales and myths of London, so the cheap chaps have a look at some places they are familiar with. They stumble on a truly nonsense poltergeist story that fails to impress, but their second story is a lot more interesting. Turns out that the famous “Pearly Kings and Queens” of the UK capital have a truly fascinating beginning, not in the East of London… but in the North? If all that reading isn’t your taste, how about some Sauce Report action? Eli’s been informed that there is a range of sauces found in B&M, that are based on Seabrooks’ crisp flavours! Every now and then, Cheapshow likes to go a little “wild in the aisle” when it comes to charity shop shopping… This week, they get to put their spending skills to the test when Paul whips out a board game based on a beloved 1990s game show, Supermarket Sweep! Hosted by Dale Winton, contestants ran around a huge supermarket, hunting for items and answering food based questions. But will the board game reflect the excitement of the TV show? You probably already have a good idea on the outcome to that, in a classic Gannon’s Golden Games. Eli’s also got to sweet treats to sample, with a return to the Froth Shop. The candy store has reopened, but sadly, an all too familiar face is running the shop. To make matters worse, Paul is definitely not going to like some of the gummies on offer. It’s all going to be very disappointing, isn’t it? Oh and Eli is MEGA hung over. It’s a NEW YEAR and time for a NEW(ish) episode of CheapShow to see in 2026! As 2025 prepares its end, Paul and Eli turn their attention to the big yuletide knees up… The Office Christmas Party! For their 7th boozy do, Paul wants to do something a little different, at least to start! They head out to a little village pub and get a few drinks in early, before attempting to get back to “La Maison Hantee Sur La Colline A Harrow” for the party proper. Episode 450 was a big success and Eli and Paul celebrated accordingly. Until they didn’t. Following the live stream party, Paul went way too far with the drinking and is now suffering terribly. There is a slight change to the content of CheapShow this week as Paul & Eli decide to wade into the unfamiliar waters of technology. It’s an episode that begins by enjoying the joys of the past and ends with a lament as to it’s embarrassing secrets. Somehow, against all the odds, CheapShow has finally won something! Paul & Eli are in high spirits this week as they celebrate their recent “Golden Lobes” podcast awards win! It was a fantastic moment that was only 10 years in the making. This success probably won’t go to their heads. At all. It’s a bit of a wordy episode this week, as Paul is supplying two books for his “Page Turners” segment. His charity shop discoveries involve one book based on the kids TV show “Bangers & Mash”, and the other is a story puzzle book from the legendary “Usbourne Publishing”. It’s been a month of walkabout adventures, game shows and another character retrospective, so it’s about time that Eli and Paul got back into CheapShow HQ for another 75 minutes of cheap laughs! Oh Boy Howdy have we got noodles for you this week! With Special Guest: Nick Helm Holy F***! Comedy starlet Nick Helm is back on CheapShow and he isn’t messing about. He joins Paul and Eli at the Soho Radio Podcast Studios for what turns out to be 90 minutes of rants, shouting, repulsion, audio torture and awkward conversations. Once again, Eli seems to be feeling poorly as he croaks and squeaks through the recording session. The upshot of this is that he develops the most adorable laugh we’ve ever heard. As for Paul, he’s a bit grumpy before things even kick off and his inability to control his co-host and his guest will drain the life from his soul. Last week, Paul and Eli gave themselves the challenge of finding six typical pieces of CheapShow tat in just a few hours, in the charity shops of Watford High Street. This week… they are going to share and review their findings. It’s a little more random than usual as the items range from the mundane to the bizarre. Along the way, they’ll bounce from toy cars to kitsch porcelain statues, via 1980s light entertainers and cheesy dance party albums. It’s time for another “Tat Hunt” episode, we think. It’s been too long, that’s for sure. This week, Paul and Eli take to the mean streets of Watford to scour the charity shops for 6 items to bring into next week’s charity shop item face-off! In CheapShow’s history, most of the items discovered in charity shops fall into six categories and it’s up to the Cheap Chaps to rustle them up in a few hours beating the streets. They need to find a Book, a Game, a Toy, some Kitchenware, a Trinket and a Party Album, but time it tight and the weather is awful. It’s the Patreon exclusive podcast that sees the cheap chaps picking a London Night Bus route and travelling along its whole length! In 2024 they chose the Super Loop bus, the SL7, which travels from West Croydon in the South of the capital all the way round to Heathrow Airport in the West.
