- 153 - 88 - Disneyland and Club 33
AJ, Mike, and Chris spent a wild weekend in Anaheim for BizzCon, hanging out in Disneyland, and visiting Club 33! Yes, thanks to a generous invite from a listener, we got to experience an extraordinary visit to one of Disneyland's most fabled locations.
We also visited Oogie Boogie's Bash at Disney's California Adventure, road a runaway mine train through explosions, met Walt Disney, and bowed before royalty (it'll all make sense in the episode).

Fri, 21 Aug 2026 - 1h 21min - 150 - 86 - Chris's Road Trip Report
Chris takes the driver's wheel as he recounts his family's most recent road trip to Texas which included stops at three different theme parks!
Their first stop was at King's Island in Cincinnati, OH. After years of waiting, Chris and his son finally got to tame the legendary wooden roller coaster, The Best.
Once in Texas, Chris tells us about their experience at the newly opened Universal Kids Resort! While some have complained about sparse offerings and half baked theming, it sounds like Chris's kiddos had a great time exploring this barely two week old theme park.
Finally on the way home they checked off a Minotti family bucket list park, Dollywood! After years of accolades, Chris tells us if this park and its many attractions and roller coasters are worth the hype.

AJ, Mike, and Chris travel back to the golden age of the dinosaurs. That is, the animatronic ones design by Jim Henson's Creature Shop. That's right, we delving into the history and creation of the hit ABC family sitcom Dinosaurs.
We explore the show's origins as a feature film idea from Jim Henson himself into a biting satirical sitcom that tackled ideas like warfare, drug use, and corporate greed. The sitcom used groundbreaking technology to create dinosaurs that utilized traditional puppetry and advanced animatronics. Thu, 22 Jan 2026 - 1h 09min - 137 - 79 - Walt Disney World 1996
In this episode of 90s Disney, we kick off a new tradition by hopping back exactly 30 years to explore what Walt Disney World was like in 1996. We talk about what was new, what was changing, and what was on the horizon, as Walt Disney World continued to grow into a true multi-day destination. From evolving attractions and live entertainment to shifting priorities across the resort, 1996 captures Disney in a moment of transition, balancing experimentation, expansion, and the expectations of a rapidly growing audience.Outside the parks, we also dig into how the resort itself was expanding, with new places to stay, shop, and spend time that reshaped how guests experienced Walt Disney World beyond the gates.
Along the way, we share memories, listener emails, and reflections on how this era of Disney felt at the time, and how it looks in hindsight. Whether you lived it firsthand or are discovering it through old photos and home videos, this episode is a relaxed, nostalgic look at a year that helped define the Disney we know today.

In this bonus episode of 90s Disney, AJ, Mike, and Chris take on a challenge no one asked for but every Disney fan will have an opinion about: ranking every Walt Disney World Resort lobby!
From the opulent grandeur of the Grand Floridian to the cozy, cabin comfort of Wilderness Lodge, the brothers go resort by resort, debating atmosphere, theming, nostalgia, smells (yes, the smells), and those special details that make each lobby unique.
It’s a fun, chaotic journey full of tangents about Christmas trees, elevator races, cereal from the 90s, and even who has the best lobby bar. Whether you’re a fan of tiki torches or towering totems, this episode will make you want to visit every resort just to sit in the lobby.

AJ, Mike, and Chris go back to Disneyland in 1997 to explore the infamous, short-lived nighttime spectacular Light Magic, the ill-fated “spiritual successor” to the beloved Main Street Electrical Parade.
Opening on May 23, 1997, Light Magic promised guests a high-tech evolution of the classic parade. What they got instead was something… different.
Does Light Magic deserve its bad reputation, or was it simply a misunderstood experiment ahead of its time? We compare it to later nighttime “misses” like Rivers of Light and Harmonious. And of course, there’s talk of creepy pixie masks, Baroque Hoedown remixes, and how many cast members it really takes to sweep up confetti.

In this bonus episode of 90s Disney, hosts AJ, Mike, and Chris discuss what it really means to “plus” a Disney attraction — that time-honored Imagineering term for enhancing or improving an existing ride without completely replacing it.
Inspired by recent announcements about updates to attractions like Frozen Ever After and Ratatouille: The Adventure, the trio goes park by park through Walt Disney World to decide which attractions could use a little “plus” of their own — and which ones should be left alone.
Plus, the brothers read listener emails about Epic Universe tips, favorite Disney holiday traditions, and must-try dining picks for upcoming trips.

Thu, 18 Sep 2025 - 1h 07min - 130 - 75 - Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!
It belongs in a museum… or maybe just the theme park stage! This week on 90s Disney, we’re cracking the whip and diving into the boulder-sized legacy of Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! at Disney-MGM Studios.
We explore the origins of this groundbreaking live-action stunt show, its connections to the opening of Disney’s third park in 1989, and the impact of Indy mania on everything from casting to explosions to theme park lore. From its high-flying choreography to its crowd-pleasing humor and behind-the-scenes gags, the Epic Stunt Spectacular has earned its place in the Hall of Theme Park Legends.
We also talk about the real stunt work, rotating casts, audience volunteers, fire effects, and why this show remains one of the longest-running stage productions in theme park history, even as the rest of the park has changed around it.
Plus, we share our own memories of seeing the show as kids and reflect on why the Epic Stunt Spectacular still holds up (even if the fedora is a little dusty).\

This week, we're setting sail with Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and Tim Curry as we revisit Muppet Treasure Island,Disney’s 1996 swashbuckling adventure that proved you can never have too many pirates... or Muppets.
We explore how the Muppets returned to adapting literary classics after the success of Muppet Christmas Carol, why Gonzo and Rizzo were almost the stars of this film, and how Tim Curry's unforgettable Long John Silver performance (and laugh) practically made him a human Muppet. Along the way, we look at the film’s memorable songs by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Hans Zimmer’s rousing score, and the challenges of filming on a full-size gimbaled ship set without sending the entire cast to the sick bay.
We also share our memories of the movie’s 90s marketing, its reception, and why it remains such a fun retelling of a literary classic.

- 102 - 61 - Monorail
Early Monorail History
Monorails, meaning single track railways, date back to 1820 with Ivan Elmanov's prototype in Russia. Henry Robinson Palmer, an English civil engineer, patented the first monorail in 1821, featuring a single rail supported above ground. General Roy Stone designed the first steam-driven monorail, showcased at the 1876 Centennial International Exhibition.
ALWEG Monorail
The ALWEG Monorail, designed by Dr. Axel Lennart Wenner-Gren, emerged in 1952, with improvements in 1957 that set the standard for modern monorails.
Disney Monorails
Walt Disney aimed for a futuristic transport system at Disneyland, leading to the creation of the Viewliner Train in 1957, which was later replaced by the ALWEG Monorail after Walt's visit to Germany. The Disneyland Monorail opened on June 14, 1959, featuring innovative designs and was the first to run adjacent to a major highway.
Disneyland Mark I to III
The Disneyland monorails evolved from Mark I in 1959 to Mark III in 1969, improving in size, capacity, and design.
Walt Disney World Monorail
The WDW monorail was a significant part of Walt's vision for showcasing the future. The Mark IV monorails, inspired by Learjet designs, were introduced in 1971, featuring unique support structures and smooth rides due to precise manufacturing.
Mark IV to VI
Mark IV monorails had bench seats, limited standing room, and basic AC. They were replaced by Mark VI in 1989, which featured better air conditioning, automatic doors, increased capacity, and higher speeds.
EPCOT Expansion and Disneyland Mark V
The WDW monorail system expanded to EPCOT in the late 1970s, with on-site precasting for new track beams. Disneyland introduced Mark V monorails in 1987, designed by Walt Disney Imagineering and manufactured in West Germany.

AJ, Mike, and Chris travel back to 1994 when Professor Wayne Szalinski had to admit to his wife, "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience!" Join us as we explore the birth of the Imagination Institute and Eric Idle's portrait of Dr. Nigel Channing. We explore insights into the complex effects of this 4D film from its director, Radal Kleiser, and describe how each of the ground breaking in-theater effects were achieved. So grab your safety googles, pick your feet up off the ground, and watch out for Gigabyte!
Early History
"Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" released in 1989 to great success, followed by a moderately successful sequel, "Honey, I Blew Up the Kid" in 1992. "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: Movie Set Adventure" opened in 1990 at the then new MGM Studios park. A new attraction themed around "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" was announced in November 1993, originally named "Honey, I Shrunk the Theater" and later changed to "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience." Kodak sponsored the attraction.Production
The film was directed by Randal Kleiser, known for "Grease" and "Flight of the Navigator," and written by Bill Prady and Steve Spiegel. Cinematography was handled by Dean Cundey, with effects by Kleiser-Walczak Construction Company. The score was composed by Bruce Boughton. The set was designed by Les Dilley, and the cast included Rick Moranis, Marcia Strassman, Robert Oliveri, Eric Idle, and others.Preshow
The preshow included a presentation by Kodak and a segment featuring Dr. Nigel Channing on WNN-TV. In 2003, the preshow was changed to include a short film replacing "True Colors" and altered dialogues.Technical Details and Run of the Show
The film was presented as the stage of a live award show, with technical details ensuring the appearance of a live event. Ten significant 3D moments were incorporated into the show, each carefully choreographed to enhance audience immersion.Other Parks Changes
The attraction underwent changes in various Disney parks, including Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris.Closure and Legacy
After Michael Jackson's death, there was a resurgence of interest in "Captain EO." As a result, "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience" was temporarily closed in several parks for the "Captain EO Tribute" but never reopened. The attraction left a lasting legacy, with elements incorporated into other Disney experiences. Our Memories

- 94 - 57 - McDonald’s
Join AJ, Mike, and Chris as they delve into the intriguing relationship between Disney and McDonald's in the 90s. Early History The connection between Disney and McDonald's traces back to WW1 in 1918 when Walt Disney and Ray Kroc, both lying about their ages, joined the American Ambulance Corps. Ray Kroc, later the innovator behind McDonald's franchises, and Walt Disney crossed paths during their training. First Partnerships In the late 80s, the first Disney-McDonald's promotion was launched for the 50th anniversary of Snow White. Subsequent collaborations included Happy Meal toys like The Disney Favorites Activity Books and Cinderella Plush ornaments. Splash Mountain and Setbacks A promotional agreement for Splash Mountain soured due to ride delays, leading to a rift between McDonald's and Disney. The underperformance of Dick Tracy further strained their relationship, with Burger King eventually overtaking McDonald's in Disney promotions. The 10 Year Deal McDonald's launched the Disney Video Masterpiece Collection Trivia Challenge in April 1996, initiating a 10-year partnership as the exclusive sponsor for Disney films. This deal saw tie-ins with movies like 101 Dalmatians, Hercules, Animal Kingdom, and Mulan. End of the 10 Year Deal The partnership ended in 2006, with Disney choosing not to renew due to McDonald's negative public image and concerns about associations with obesity. Disney allowed McDonald's to package toys in Happy Meals again in 2018, marking a renewed partnership. McDonald's in the Parks McDonald's had a significant presence in Disney parks, with locations offering themed dining experiences and tie-ins with park attractions. The Future is Back Proposal A discovery of original letter correspondence between Disney and McDonald’s led to the revelation of a proposal for a replica McDonald's in Disneyland as part of a "Future is Back" ad campaign. AJ, Mike, and Chris invite you to join Mickey Mouse as he journeys to save Minnie from the Castle of Illusion. Before there was Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega looked to Disney’s iconic mascot to help cement its new Genesis console as a contender to Nintendo. Learn how the game came to be, how it plays, and its legacy in our latest episode.
Sega and Disney Detailing Sega's 16-bit Genesis/Mega Drive launch in 1989, the hosts discuss Sega's strategy of working with established names, resulting in games like Castle of Illusion. Emiko Yamamoto, serving as director, played a crucial role in this collaboration.
The Game Castle of Illusion is described as a simple yet vibrant 2D platformer. Mickey's quest to save Minnie from the Witch Mizrabel takes him through enchanted realms like Toyland and The Library. The hosts appreciate the game's relative ease compared to contemporaries and highlight its colorful graphics and smooth animations.
Master System The Master System version is explored, emphasizing its uniqueness rather than being a mere replica of the original. Mickey's ability to interact with the environment is a notable distinction, and many prefer this version over the Genesis one.
World of Illusion The hosts touch on the sequel, World of Illusion, released in 1992, presenting a departure with puzzle-platformer elements. Its vibrant graphics and cooperative gameplay earn praise, and Emiko Yamamoto's continued involvement is noted.
Other Illusion Titles The episode delves into other titles in the Illusion series, including Land of Illusion, a sequel for the Game Gear, and Legend of Illusion, released in 1995 for the Game Gear and Master System in Brazil.
Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion The Illusion series resurfaces in 2012 with Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion for the 3DS, adopting Metroidvania elements and paying homage to the classics.
Remake Castle of Illusion gets a remake in 2013, expanding on the original with 2.5D gameplay and more exploration. The hosts appreciate the enhancements while lamenting that it marked the closure of Sega Studios Australia.
Illusion Today The episode touches on the game's inclusion in the Genesis Mini library in 2019 and references Disney Illusion Island, a multiplayer Metroidvania inspired by Castle of Illusion.

- 90 - 55 - Dixie Landings
Join AJ, Mike, and Chris as we delve into the world of Dixie Landings, a Disney resort steeped in the charm of the Antebellum South during the late 19th century.
Development and Opening: We explore the resort's development, opening nearly nine months after its sibling, Port Orleans. Dixie Landings boasts a unique thematic design with rustic buildings in Alligator Bayou and elegant mansions in Magnolia Bend. Daroff Design, Inc. of Philadelphia contributes to the resort's interior design, drawing inspiration from mid-1800s tidewater themes and the village's steamboat business.
The Backstory: The backstories, sourced from the resort's original fictional newspaper, The Sassagoula Times, and famed Disney historian Jim Korkis, add rich layers to the Dixie Landings narrative. Founded by brothers Colonel J.C. Peace and Everette, the resort's history unfolds through family, community, and the charm of the Old South. The settlers' constructions, growth of Magnolia Bend, and the founding families' stories paint a vivid picture.
Accommodations and Amenities: Details of accommodations and amenities are explored, including the 2,048 rooms with various views, the introduction of Royal Guest rooms with themes from Disney movies, and a range of dining options like Boatwright's Dining Hall and Riverside Mill. The hosts cover recreational activities, such as the expansive Ol’ Man Island, quiet pools, and various transportation options like buses and water taxis.
Change to Port Orleans and Modern Updates: The episode covers the significant change to Port Orleans in 2001, where Dixie Landings merged with Port Orleans to become Port Orleans: Riverside. This merger saw the transformation of landmarks, like Colonel’s Cotton Mill becoming The Riverside Mill food court and the Cotton Co-op evolving into the River Roost Lounge. Renovations in 2004 and 2011, including the introduction of the Royal Guest Room theme in 2012, are discussed.
Interesting Tidbits: Fascinating details are shared, such as the hand-carved wooden Alligator Bayou guest beds and the transplantation of a massive live oak tree on Ol’ Man Island. The Sassagoula River, themed after the Mississippi River, adds another layer of depth to the resort's design.
Our Memories of the Resort: The hosts share personal memories of Dixie Landings, creating a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Epcot & Expansion
With its popularity, Candlelight Processional became a centerpiece for Epcot's Festival of Holidays, lasting almost a month. Narrated by celebrities, it's known for subtle yearly changes, including song arrangements and choir pieces.
