@BSAT_Properties posted on X: I was on a train in Tokyo when it stopped between stations for what seemed like nothing - just 3 minutes and 20 seconds. After moving again, the announcement apologised again, stating the exact delay time and calling it unacceptable. When I got off, station staff were bowing and handing out official delay certificates, stamped and signed, for passengers to show employers so they’d know the delay wasn’t their fault. I told one staff member I was a tourist and didn’t need it, but he looked confused and said the delay had affected me, so I deserved an apology. Later, a Japanese friend explained that in Japan, trains are expected to be exactly on time, and even a three-minute delay would likely be investigated so it doesn’t happen again.

All Western Cape schools will be closed on Tuesday, 12 May 2026

In the interests of learner and teacher safety, and after extensive consultation with the Provincial Disaster Management Centre and the South African Weather Service (SAWS), a decision has been taken to close all schools in the Western Cape on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.  This includes all public ordinary and special schools in the province. Disaster Management and SAWS have made the recommendation based on updated weather projections and current conditions.

Our default position is always to keep schools open and only close schools in exceptional circumstances, but we are mindful of the severity of the warnings in place.

We will continuously monitor and evaluate the situation to ensure that schools can reopen as soon as possible, which is currently expected to be on Wednesday, 13 May 2026. As of 3h30 on Monday, 11 May 2026, total of 227 schools applied for closure in addition to the closure list issued for the Cape Winelands and Eden and Central Karoo districts. A number of schools have also suffered damage due to the storm, which is currently being assessed

So, Anele has a friend who got engaged:  everyone knew, everyone was happy.

Then on Wednesday, the message comes through: there’s an engagement party happening on Saturday. Short notice, but okay… people try make plans, others can’t because, well… life.

Should schools and varsities actually pay students who play sport?

On one hand, these athletes are putting in serious hours, training, travelling, competing and in many cases, they’re the reason schools and universities gain exposure, prestige, and even sponsorships. At big institutions, sport isn’t just extracurricular… it’s a whole brand. So the question is: if everyone else is benefiting, why shouldn’t the players?

For years, Rachel Kolisi stood at the centre of one of South Africa’s most powerful sporting stories. As the wife of Siya Kolisi, the captain who led the South Africa national rugby union team to global glory at the 2019 Rugby World Cup and again at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, she became what many called the “First Lady of South African rugby.”

Yesterday on Anele and The Club, Anele told us about a random DM she received from a listener. It was a voice note from a woman asking for help with snacks and drinks for a baseball game.

The problem? Anele gets so many DMs that she completely forgot who sent it. So the team played the voice note on air and turned it into a full-on investigation to find the mystery woman behind the message. Listeners jumped in to help, messages started pouring in… and before long, we found her. Her name is Nicole.

Not only did Nicole come forward, but the story didn’t end there. Listeners, friends of the show, and some generous people stepped up and offered to donate snacks and drinks to help out.

What started as a random DM has now turned into a proper community moment, with people rallying together to make sure Nicole’s baseball crew is sorted.

Benni McCarthy is a true South African football legend. He remains Bafana Bafana’s all-time leading scorer with 31 international goals and is the only South African ever to win the UEFA Champions League, having lifted the trophy with FC Porto in 2004.

A decorated striker, he was joint top-scorer at the 1998 African Cup of Nations. In Europe he starred for top clubs – winning titles with Ajax in the Netherlands, and enjoying a “fabled” career at Porto (Champions League 2004) as well as spells at Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United in England.

He finished his playing days back home with Orlando Pirates (2011–2013).
