Scammers are flooding phones and inboxes with fake “missed delivery” or “outstanding fee” messages, knowing that so many of us shop online now.

These scams often look official complete with a courier name, tracking number, or urgent language but the goal is to trick you into clicking a link. Once you do, you could be redirected to a fake website that tries to steal your personal details, banking info, or even money.

Remember the story we ran last year about investigative journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh being offered R60,000 in cash to bury his corruption investigation into the Independent Development Trust?

That meeting, secretly recorded and published by Daily Maverick, showed the suspended IDT CEO, Tebogo Malaka, and the organisation’s spokesperson allegedly trying to stop the reporting.

Now there’s a major update: Tebogo Malaka has officially resigned as CEO of the IDT, effective 31 January 2026, ahead of her disciplinary hearing.

She won’t receive a “golden handshake” and authorities say her resignation doesn’t stop ongoing criminal or civil investigations into the matter.

Severe flooding in parts of Limpopo Province and neighbouring areas of South Africa has forced evacuations, washed out roads and homes, and tragically claimed the lives of dozens of people as relentless heavy rain pushes rivers beyond their banks; in Limpopo officials have reported multiple deaths connected to the floods, including children, and communities are struggling with waterlogged infrastructure and disrupted services. In response to the disaster, President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the hardest-hit areas to assess the damage, meet with affected families and local leaders, and oversee the government’s emergency response efforts as the province remains under a highest-level weather warning with ongoing rain and relief work continuing.

It’s Anele’s Story Time again and this one is not for the faint-hearted. While in Abu Dhabi for the F1 in December 2025, Anele discovered she had a tapeworm. In full panic mode, the first call wasn’t to a doctor… it was to her friend Vuvu, who tried to help remove it.

Eventually, Anele got proper medical help in Abu Dhabi, where she was given a special concoction that finally sorted the problem out.

So it got us thinking who do you call when you have a medical emergency? Is it a doctor, a family member, a friend… or that one person you trust when things go completely sideways?

SAHPRA has issued a warning about certain children’s products on the market that contain zinc picolinate and selenium. These ingredients have been found in products commonly sold as immune boosters for children, and SAHPRA says they are not permitted in health supplements for anyone under the age of 18. You go on holiday thinking it’s just a chilled lunch on the mountain. Anele thought the same. Big mistake.

Suddenly, you’re on cable cars with skiers giving you dirty looks, like you’ve skipped a queue you didn’t know existed. You even ask to go first — immediate no. Turns out cable cars have rules.

On the way back, you meet a nice couple. Buzza offers them alcohol. They decline. Apparently, skiing and drinking isn’t a thing.

Then Anele realises she’s wearing the wrong shoes. A stranger even says, “That’s brave.” Forty minutes later, still not halfway, feet freezing, chaos everywhere.

Buzza offers to swap shoes, Anele starts crying, toes go from frozen to burning, and now everyone’s panicking.

Chaos greeted Anele and the team when they returned to their hotel in Abu Dhabi to find it partially flooded. Water was pouring from ceiling lights, floors were soaked, and the scene resembled something out of a disaster movie rather than a five-star stay.

With all elevators out of service due to flooding, the group was forced to climb ten flights of stairs to reach their rooms, luggage in tow. The moment was so surreal that it quickly turned into content, with Anele documenting the ordeal for WhatsApp as exhaustion set in.

After finally reaching the 10th floor, the group attempted to salvage the night with comfort food, ordering Shake Shack — only to be told they would have to come down and collect it themselves.

“Hi, it’s Danielle Goff aka Mrs Claus. I decorated Christmas for the RideJHB and for the festive season I was forced to remove all the decorations yesterday. Please can you help — our bylaws are stupid.”

Danielle says she has been doing this on Moray Drive, Bryanston, for 25 years. She also tells us that she had a permit from City Parks to put up the decorations — a permit which was later revoked.

So Jen’s dilemma is wild! Her sister asked her to dog-sit a little furball named Peanut for “four months” while she went to the UK;  fast forward six years, and Peanut is basically part of Jen’s life now. She pays for everything vet bills, food, treats, walks, cuddles, the whole deal. But now her sister’s coming back to South Africa and says she wants her dog back. Jen’s like, “Absolutely not. That’s my baby now.”

So… should Jen give the dog back to her sister, or has Peanut officially become hers? Six years is a long time but technically, it was her sister’s dog first.

October 10th marks World Mental Health Day, and this year, the focus hits close to home for many teens – especially matriculants facing the pressure of final exams and big life decisions. For many young people, this time of year feels like a storm: sleepless nights, fear of failure, and the constant pressure to have it all figured out.

She has been in education for 28+ years, across all phases. Before joining Bellavista, she worked in mainstream schools (a former Model C school), then moved into independent/remedial education. Her roles included HOD (Head of Department) for Guidance. In 2009, she was appointed as Principal of Bellavista, and over time she has steered the school towards more innovative, research-based remedial and cognitive education programmes.

She has extensive experience in teaching across the board and is a very well respected principal in South Africa. Bellavista is a private remedial school, but they also host a number of training courses for educators, health professionals and parents on how to deal with all sorts of issues related to education - including dealing with anxiety in learners.

So here’s the thing: when you’re at a hotel and someone carries your bags up to the room, there’s an unspoken rule -  you’re meant to tip. The going rate is about R20–R50 per bag here at home, or a couple of dollars overseas.

Denzel Washington has revealed that his name has been widely mispronounced throughout his four-decade career. During a September 3 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, he clarified that the emphasis should be on the first syllable “DEN-zel” rather than what many believe.

He explained that this mispronunciation became standard because his mom, Lennis Washington, needed a way to distinguish him from his father (who has the same name). She began saying “Den-zel” to differentiate, and it stuck.
