What happens when Jesus is close by? In this week’s Don’t Miss This, Dave and Grace finish their study of Isaiah with some of his most hopeful promises. Through Isaiah 58, 61, and 65, we see a picture of the Savior’s work: binding up the brokenhearted, setting captives free, bringing beauty from ashes, repairing what is broken, and creating something new. We’ll talk about what it means to become a “repairer” and a “restorer,” how serving others can bring more of Jesus into our own lives, and why the ministry of the Messiah isn’t just something we read about—it’s something we’re invited to participate in. Because when Jesus is close by, impossible things can happen. Study with us as we discover what it looks like to live out the ministry of the Messiah and become part of the healing work of Jesus Christ. The Psalms! by Grace Freeman and David Butler. These are some of the most hopeful chapters of scripture. This week Psalms 1-46

NOW I SEE GOD by Grace Freeman Smith & David Butler

In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study the book of Esther, one of the Bible's most remarkable stories of courage, faith, and redemption. Although God's name is never mentioned in the book, His hand can be seen on every page as He quietly prepares people and circumstances to bring about deliverance. Esther reminds us that even when the Lord seems absent, He is still writing a story of hope. As Queen Vashti, Mordecai, and Esther each make courageous choices, the discussion explores how God often works through ordinary people who are willing to trust Him. From unexpected opportunities to faithful friendships and timely acts of courage, every moment reveals that the Lord is present in ways we may only recognize when we look back. The story invites us to reflect on where we have already seen God's hand in our own lives. The episode also highlights Mordecai's famous reminder that Esther may have come "for such a time as this," encouraging us to trust that God has been preparing us long before we realize what lies ahead. Rather than calling only a few people to great acts of service, the Lord invites each of us to participate in quiet rescues, strengthening and lifting those He has placed in our path. Above all, the story of Esther points to Jesus Christ, whose redeeming power turns mourning into joy and fear into hope. Just as the decree of death was reversed and became a day of celebration, the gospel promises that every sorrow can one day be transformed. Because of Christ, our story is never finished on its hardest day. The Lord is still at work, leading us toward the good day He has prepared. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Ezra and Nehemiah, following Israel's return from exile as they begin the long work of rebuilding Jerusalem, the temple, and their covenant relationship with God. These chapters remind us that every story of faith includes moments of starting again, and that the Lord is always ready to welcome His people home. As the people lay the temple's foundation, face opposition, and press forward despite discouragement, they discover that rebuilding rarely happens all at once. Faith grows one step at a time through small, consistent acts of devotion, even when progress feels slow. Again and again, scripture reminds us that the good hand of God is upon His people, strengthening them as they continue the work He has called them to do. This episode also highlights the role of prophets in times of rebuilding. Through the words of Ezra, Nehemiah, Haggai, and Zechariah, we see that God's servants encourage, strengthen, and remind His people of who they truly are. Rather than being defined by past mistakes, the Lord invites us to accept His new decree over our lives and move forward with faith, courage, and joy. Above all, Ezra and Nehemiah testify that rebuilding is not a story of shame but of hope. The joy of the Lord becomes our strength as we remember His goodness, recognize His hand in our lives, and choose once again to walk with Him. No matter where we begin, His gracious hand is always reaching out, inviting us to build something beautiful with Him. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study 2 Chronicles 14-20; 26; 30, discovering what some of the greatest prayers in scripture teach us about the heart of God. Through the lives of Asa, Jehoshaphat, and Hezekiah, we see leaders who faced impossible situations yet continually turned to the Lord, trusting that His power was greater than any obstacle before them. As armies gathered, kingdoms were threatened, and fear surrounded them, these faithful kings chose prayer before panic. Whether facing overwhelming odds, uncertain futures, or desperate personal trials, they sought the Lord with humble hearts, believing that God hears every cry and remains faithful to His promises. Their stories remind us that prayer is not a last resort but the first place we can turn when we don't know what to do. This episode also explores what it means to fix our eyes on God instead of our fears. Rather than counting reasons to give up, these kings remembered who God is and what He had already done for His people. As they trusted Him, the Lord answered with guidance, protection, peace, and unexpected miracles, showing that His graciousness reaches every sincere soul who calls upon Him. Above all, these chapters offer hope for anyone who has ever wondered if heaven is listening. The same God who heard the prayers of ancient kings still hears ours today. He sees every tear, knows every burden, and invites us to bring every fear before Him. No prayer offered in faith goes unnoticed, because our God is gracious, merciful, and always ready to hear His children. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study 2 Kings 16–25, following the final years of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. As one kingdom falls and another struggles to survive, these chapters reveal that the greatest danger was never the nations surrounding them, but the slow drift of hearts turning away from God. Even in seasons of decline, the Lord continued to invite His people to return, reminding us that repentance is always an invitation to come home. Through the faithful examples of Hezekiah and Josiah, we see what it looks like to seek God with a whole heart. They opened the doors of the temple, restored true worship, gathered the people, rediscovered the scriptures, and removed anything that drew hearts away from the Lord. Their stories remind us that spiritual renewal often begins with small, intentional choices to place God first, trust His voice, and create room for His presence in our lives. This episode also explores the voices we choose to listen to. While the enemy filled God's people with fear, doubt, and discouragement, the scriptures continually pointed them back to truth, hope, and covenant promises. Whether through worship, scripture study, generosity, or quiet acts of repentance, every step toward God helped retune hearts that had slowly drifted out of harmony. The Lord never stopped inviting His people to return, no matter how far they had wandered. Although these chapters record the fall of kingdoms and the sorrow of exile, they end with a quiet reminder that God is never finished with His people. Even after loss and captivity, He continued preparing the way for restoration. The same promise is true today. No matter where our story has taken us, the Lord continues to call us back, restore what has been broken, and remind us that with Him, our story is never over. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study 2 Kings 2–7 and discover that the God who worked miracles through Elijah is the same God who continues to work through Elisha. As one prophet passes the mantle to another, these chapters remind us that God's power has never been limited to one person or one generation. He is the same God yesterday, today, and forever, still healing, providing, rescuing, and strengthening His children. From the healing of the waters at Jericho to the widow's overflowing oil, each miracle points beyond Elisha and toward the heart of God. Whether providing more than enough for a grieving family, reminding us that repentance brings lasting healing, or showing that His blessings often exceed our expectations, these stories reveal a Savior whose grace is abundant. God is not interested in merely helping us survive. He delights in restoring, multiplying, and making us whole. The story of Naaman teaches that God's greatest miracles often come through simple acts of faith. Though Naaman expected a dramatic solution, healing came through humble obedience as he washed in the Jordan River. These chapters invite us to trust that God is patient with our growth, willing to work with us through every attempt, every setback, and every step toward becoming completely clean. His purpose is not partial healing, but complete restoration. The episode concludes by showing that no concern is too great or too small for the Lord. Whether raising a child back to life, helping someone recover a borrowed axe head, or answering the quiet prayers of everyday disciples, God cares deeply about every part of our story. Together, these chapters testify that the same God who performed miracles in the Old Testament still works in our lives today, inviting us to trust Him, seek His Spirit, and believe that His power is never exhausted. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study 1 Kings 12-13; 17-22 and explore the divided kingdom of Israel, the ministry of Elijah, and the many ways God shows up in our lives. Through stories of kings, prophets, miracles, and personal struggles, these chapters remind us that faith is not about choosing the easiest path, but about trusting God enough to keep moving forward even when we cannot see the outcome. As the kingdom divides under Rehoboam and Jeroboam, the discussion highlights the danger of choosing convenience over covenant commitment. The temptation to make discipleship easier often comes at the cost of sacrifice, growth, and devotion. Dave and Grace reflect on how spiritual strength is built through consistent faithfulness, reminding us that some of the deepest blessings come not from avoiding difficulty, but from remaining dedicated when the journey requires effort. The heart of the episode follows Elijah’s remarkable experiences during a time of drought and uncertainty. Whether being fed by ravens, helping a widow whose oil never fails, or witnessing God’s power on Mount Carmel, Elijah learns again and again that the Lord provides exactly what is needed. These stories invite us to get off the bench and step into faith, trusting that God can work through unlikely circumstances, unexpected people, and miracles that often begin with simple acts of obedience. The episode concludes with Elijah’s moments of exhaustion, discouragement, and renewal. Under a juniper tree and later on a mountain, he discovers that God does not always appear through dramatic displays of power. Sometimes He comes through a meal, a moment of rest, a small cloud on the horizon, or a still small voice. Together, these chapters testify of a God who is both powerful and personal, who keeps His promises, strengthens His people, and remains present through every season of the journey. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study 2 Samuel 11–12 and 1 Kings 1–9, exploring the stories of David and Solomon and the lessons they teach about mercy, redemption, wisdom, and devotion. These chapters remind us that scripture is filled with imperfect people, and yet God continues to work through them, write them into His story, and accomplish His purposes through their lives. The episode begins with one of the most heartbreaking moments in David’s life. His choices involving Bathsheba and Uriah reveal the consequences of sin and the pain that can follow when we lose sight of the Lord. Yet even in the middle of failure, God does not abandon David. Through Nathan’s confrontation, David is invited to repent, and the story becomes a powerful reminder that mistakes do not place us beyond the reach of God’s grace. The discussion highlights how redemption remains possible, even after our lowest moments, because God’s work with us is not finished. From David’s story, the focus shifts to Solomon, a young king who begins his reign with a sincere love for the Lord. When given the opportunity to ask God for anything, Solomon chooses an understanding heart. Dave and Grace reflect on what it means to see people the way God sees them and how experiences, relationships, and mercy can change the way we view others. Through Solomon’s request, we are invited to seek wisdom, compassion, and greater understanding in our own lives. The episode concludes with Solomon’s construction and dedication of the temple, a place built through sacrifice and devoted to God. As they study the promises found in the temple dedication prayer, Dave and Grace emphasize God’s willingness to hear prayers, offer forgiveness, and welcome all who come seeking Him. Together, these chapters testify of a God who remains dedicated to His people, who redeems broken stories, grants wisdom to those who seek it, and invites everyone to draw closer to Him. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study 1 Samuel 17–18, 24–26 and 2 Samuel 5–7, following the journey of David from shepherd boy to king. What begins with an unexpected anointing in Bethlehem unfolds through battlefields, friendships, acts of mercy, and years of preparation, revealing how God sees potential long before the world can recognize it. As Samuel searches for Israel’s next king, the Lord teaches one of scripture’s most powerful lessons: man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart. David may have seemed like the least likely choice, yet God saw something greater. Through the story of David and Goliath, we see a young man whose confidence came not from his own strength, but from his trust in God, reminding us that the greatest victories come when our eyes are fixed on the Lord instead of the giants before us. The episode also explores the people who shaped David’s life along the way. From Jonathan’s loyal friendship to Abigail’s wisdom and mercy, these stories reveal how God places the right people in our path during seasons of uncertainty and growth. The account of David’s mighty men highlights the power of surrounding ourselves with faithful people who strengthen our courage, share our battles, and help us become who God is calling us to be. Ultimately, David’s story is about more than a shepherd becoming a king. It is a reminder that God sees who we can become long before we see it ourselves. Through every battle, friendship, triumph, and setback, the Lord was shaping David into the leader He had promised he would be. The same God who saw a king in a shepherd boy continues to see divine potential in each of us and patiently helps us grow into it. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study 1 Samuel 8–15 and explore the rise and fall of Israel’s first king, Saul. What begins as a story about Israel asking for a king quickly becomes a deeper conversation about who truly sits on the throne of our hearts. As the people look to be “like all the other nations,” Dave and Grace reflect on the many things we allow to rule our lives and invite us to consider whether we are letting Jesus be the King who leads, guides, and fights our battles. The episode highlights the early life of Saul and the qualities that made him such a promising leader. Saul is introduced as humble, diligent, and willing to serve, even struggling to see the potential that others saw in him. Through Samuel’s guidance, Saul learns that God often calls people before they feel ready and then provides the experiences, miracles, and grace needed to prepare them for the work ahead. Dave and Grace emphasize that one of God’s greatest gifts is His ability to see who we can become, even when we cannot yet see it ourselves. As Saul is anointed king, the Lord gives him a new heart and begins transforming him into a different person. The hosts focus on the power of spiritual change, teaching that God’s greatest miracles are often not external signs but transformed hearts. Saul’s story becomes a reminder that growth is a process of becoming and that God can shape ordinary people into something far greater than they imagined as they place themselves in positions where His Spirit can work within them. The latter part of the episode examines Saul’s gradual decline and the lessons his story teaches about obedience, trust, and discipleship. As Saul begins caring more about the approval of others than the voice of God, his choices slowly lead him away from the path the Lord intended for him. Dave and Grace remind listeners that God desires more than outward religious actions or checked boxes. He wants a genuine relationship built on listening, trust, and love. Even amid Saul’s failures, the episode highlights a God who continues to guide, warn, correct, and redeem, never giving up on His children and always working to help them become better than they are today. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study the books of Ruth and 1 Samuel and explore stories of covenant love, redemption, grief, and revelation. Through the story of Ruth, they focus on the kind of love that goes beyond obligation and expectation. After Naomi loses her husband and sons, Ruth refuses to leave her side and instead makes the covenant declaration, “whither thou goest, I will go.” Dave and Grace describe Ruth as a story of radical kindness and “love outside the lines,” showing how covenant relationships are ultimately rooted in loyalty, compassion, and caring for others. The episode also centers on Naomi’s grief and redemption. Naomi returns to Bethlehem feeling completely empty, bitter, and forgotten after losing everything she once had. Yet throughout the story, God quietly begins restoring what was lost through the kindness of Ruth and Boaz. Dave explains the biblical role of a “redeemer” as someone who restores another person to belonging, safety, and hope, ultimately pointing to Jesus Christ as the Great Redeemer. Grace reflects on how healing often comes through the love and mercy of others, reminding listeners that God does not abandon people in their grief and that empty places in life can still become full again. The discussion then shifts to Hannah and Samuel in 1 Samuel, where Hannah’s desperate prayer for a child becomes a powerful example of faithful pleading before God. After years of sorrow, Hannah pours out her soul to the Lord and eventually receives the miracle she longed for in the birth of Samuel. Grace especially highlights Hannah’s willingness to dedicate Samuel back to God, showing a faith rooted in surrender and trust. The hosts also focus on young Samuel learning to recognize the voice of the Lord, emphasizing the hopeful phrase “Samuel did not yet know the Lord.” They teach that many people feel forgotten or believe God has never spoken to them, but Samuel’s story reminds us that God continues calling patiently and persistently until His children learn to recognize His voice. Throughout the episode, Dave and Grace return again and again to the reminder that God remembers, speaks, restores, and helps His people. From Ruth’s loyalty, to Naomi’s redemption, to Hannah’s prayers, to Samuel hearing the Lord’s voice, every story points to a God who does not give up on His children. The episode closes with Samuel building an “Ebenezer,” a memorial stone of help, as a reminder that God had answered and delivered them before. Together, these chapters become an invitation to remember the moments God has spoken, rescued, redeemed, and carried us through difficult seasons, even when His voice or His timing felt far away. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman dive into the book of Judges and reframe it as a book not about judgment, but about deliverance. They explain that the Hebrew idea behind “judge” is closer to rescuer, defender, or deliverer, and throughout the book they highlight a recurring “cycle of faithfulness”: the people forget God, fall into trouble, cry for help, and God — nevertheless — raises up a deliverer again and again. The hosts emphasize how deeply this pattern reflects the mercy of God toward imperfect people and how every deliverer story ultimately points toward Jesus Christ, the Great Deliverer. The episode explores several major judges and the lessons their stories teach. Othniel reminds listeners that when people ask for help, the Lord sends strength. Ehud’s story highlights how God often uses unexpected people and apparent weaknesses for powerful purposes. Deborah becomes one of the central figures of the lesson — a prophetess, encourager, and “mother in Israel” whose willingness to say “I will surely go with you” becomes a model of courage, mentorship, and faithful support. Grace reflects on the importance of people who lend faith and strength to others when they cannot move forward alone. Samson’s story becomes a redemption narrative rather than simply a tragedy. Dave and Grace focus especially on the verse stating that “the hair of his head began to grow again,” teaching that even after failure and spiritual distance, strength and closeness with God can return. They emphasize that Samson’s greatest moment came after his greatest mistake, illustrating that repentance can lead to even deeper faith and power than before. Gideon’s story then highlights anxiety, insecurity, and learning to trust God despite fear. The hosts discuss Gideon asking repeatedly for signs, showing that faithful people can still struggle with doubt, and they connect his story to modern experiences of seeking reassurance, peace, and guidance from God. Throughout the episode, the central message remains constant: God continually raises up deliverers, works through weakness, stays patient with imperfect people, and fights beside His children even when they feel afraid, unqualified, or broken. The stories of Judges become reminders that God does not abandon His people after failure, but instead repeatedly offers rescue, encouragement, and renewed strength. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Joshua 1–8; 23–24 and step into the long awaited moment when the children of Israel finally enter the promised land after years of wandering in the wilderness. As Joshua takes Moses’ place, the Lord repeats the same invitation again and again: “Be strong and of a good courage.” These chapters become a reminder that faith often means stepping forward before the miracle happens. From crossing the Jordan River on dry ground, to carrying stones of remembrance, to walking around the walls of Jericho day after day, the people are invited to trust a God who keeps His promises even when the outcome cannot yet be seen. This episode highlights what it looks like to live in the realm of miracles. Dave and Grace explore the courage to follow God into unfamiliar places, the importance of remembering His goodness, and the power of believing before the walls fall. The story of Rahab becomes a beautiful witness that faith can change everything, and that God delights in rescuing, welcoming, and redeeming every person who chooses to believe. This episode invites us to look at our own life and ask where God may already be moving. Because sometimes faith looks like stepping into the water before it parts, walking around the walls one more time, or building reminders of the miracles we never want to forget. And through every chapter, Joshua reminds us that the God who led His people before is still the God who leads us now. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Deuteronomy 1–8; 15; 29–30; and 34 and step into a moment of remembering, as Moses looks back on a 40 year journey and prepares the people to enter the promised land. What could have been an 11 day trip became a lifetime of transformation, and Moses uses this final message to remind them not just where they have been, but who they have become. Through the wilderness, through provision, and through every moment of doubt and growth, God had been with them. Deuteronomy becomes a call to remember that they lacked nothing, that He fought for them, and that every step was shaping them into His people. This episode highlights the power of remembering and choosing God daily. From loving Him with all our heart, soul, and might, to living open handed and generous lives, to realizing that returning to Him is always possible, these chapters show a God who stays close. He is not far off. He invites His people to choose life, to trust His promises, and to carry their faith into every part of their lives. This episode invites us to look back on our own story and recognize where God has been present all along. Because like Moses, we may not always see the full promise yet, but we can trust the God who led us here. And when we choose to remember Him, we begin to see that we have never walked alone. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Numbers 11-14 , 20-24, 27 and step into the journey in the wilderness, a story that reveals what it looks like to follow God through seasons of waiting, wandering, and becoming. As the children of Israel move forward, they are guided by a cloud by day and fire by night, learning to trust God’s timing in every step. Yet along the way, distractions begin to rise. Complaining replaces gratitude, fear overtakes faith, and comparison clouds their perspective. Again and again, they face the same choice: will they see their circumstances through fear, or will they trust in what God has already shown them? Through stories of manna, Moses’ burdens, the spies in the promised land, and the brazen serpent, we see a powerful reminder that what we look at shapes what we experience. The people who focused on fear missed the promise, while those who chose faith saw possibility. And in one of the most striking moments, the Lord invites them to simply look to be healed, pointing forward to Jesus Christ and the power of His saving grace. This episode invites us to consider how we are seeing our own lives. Because God has always been determined to bless His people, even in the wilderness. The question is not just what we are going through, but how we are choosing to see it. When we learn to look to Him, we begin to recognize that even here, even now, He is leading us toward something promised. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Exodus 35–40 and Leviticus and step into the symbolism of the tabernacle, where every detail quietly teaches the story of Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice. As the tabernacle is built, the people bring offerings with willing hearts, giving their very best to create a place where heaven and earth can meet. What may seem like simple materials and measurements begins to reveal something deeper. Every curtain, every color, and every piece points to a greater reality. This is not just about building a structure. It is about preparing hearts to understand the Savior and the way back into God’s presence. Through the sacrifices and offerings in Leviticus, we see a powerful picture of Easter. Innocent lives offered, blood shed, and everything pointing forward to Jesus Christ, the true Lamb who would give His life for all. What once was repeated daily in symbol is fulfilled completely in Him. Because of His sacrifice, the way is opened, not just for one person once a year, but for all of us to come into the presence of God. This episode invites us to see beyond the details and recognize the message they have been teaching all along. Easter is not just a moment in history, it is the center of everything. Every sacrifice, every symbol, and every step of the journey points to Jesus Christ, reminding us that through Him we are made clean, made whole, and invited all the way back home. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Exodus 19–34 and step into the moment where God invites His people into a covenant, not just to be freed, but to become something more. At Mount Sinai, God reminds Israel that He has already rescued them, carried them on eagle’s wings, and brought them to Himself. Now He invites them into a deeper relationship. If they are willing, He will make them a treasured people, a holy nation. The commandments are not given to restrict them, but to strengthen that relationship. Like any meaningful relationship, love grows alongside commitment, trust, and expectations, and God is inviting them into something richer, not something heavier. Even when the people falter and turn to the golden calf, the story does not end. Instead of walking away, God continues reaching, forgiving, and renewing. What was broken is not the end of the relationship. It becomes part of it. Moses speaks with God as a friend, and we see that mistakes do not disqualify us from closeness with Him. They often become the very place where grace, mercy, and transformation begin. This episode invites us to see the covenant not as pressure, but as an invitation. The same God who rescues at the Red Sea and ultimately through Easter is the God who stays, teaches, and walks with us daily. He is merciful, patient, and full of goodness, always working to draw us closer. And just like Israel, we are learning that real freedom is not just being saved, but becoming something new with Him. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Exodus 14–18 and walk through the defining journey of Israel, from the Red Sea to the wilderness, discovering what it means to say, “This is my God.” What begins at the edge of the sea, with fear on every side and no way forward, becomes a powerful reminder that God is a rescuer. As the waters part and dry ground appears, we see a God who fights for His people, who makes a way where there is none, and who invites us to stand still and trust Him. These moments echo the heart of Easter, a God who delivers, saves, and leads His people out of bondage into new life. As the journey continues, new struggles arise. Bitter water, hunger, thirst, and exhaustion reveal how quickly faith can turn into fear. Yet over and over again, God responds with mercy. He heals what is broken, provides daily bread, brings water from unexpected places, and reminds His people that He is still with them. Each chapter becomes another witness that even in the wilderness, God has not left. This episode invites us to see our own lives in these stories. The same God who parted the sea is the God who walks with us through our daily battles. And just like Israel, we are learning again and again who He is, a God who rescues, provides, heals, and stays. A God who shows up not just once, but every single day. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman begin the book of Exodus

In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman walk through Holy Week and focus on the events leading up to Easter, inviting us to discover who Jesus Christ is through each day. What begins on Palm Sunday with a triumphant entry quickly turns into a deeply personal journey through the final week of the Savior’s life. As the crowds ask, “Who is this?” each day of Holy Week becomes an answer, revealing a Savior who is worthy of praise, who defends the overlooked, who teaches with simplicity and power, and who notices even the smallest acts of faith. From cleansing the temple to quiet moments we do not fully see, to the Last Supper and the cross, this week shows the heart of Jesus Christ. A Savior who cares deeply, who stands up for others, who serves with love, and who continues working even in the waiting. Good Friday carries the weight of sacrifice, and Saturday reminds us that God is still present, even in silence. Then comes Easter Sunday, where everything changes. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman begin the book of Exodus and explore the early chapters of Moses’s story. From courageous midwives to a compassionate princess, this lesson highlights the quiet faith of women who helped shape the beginning of Israel’s redemption story. Through Moses’s rescue, his years in the wilderness, and the moment God appears in the burning bush, these chapters reveal a God who turns ordinary places into holy ground. Even in seasons that feel forgotten, silent, or ordinary, God is still working behind the scenes to prepare deliverance. If you’ve ever wondered where God is in the middle of waiting, mistakes, or ordinary life, this episode is a reminder that He still sees, He still hears, and He is still working to redeem the story. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman continue the story of Joseph in Genesis 42–50 and watch the cliffhanger finally unfold. What once looked like betrayal, prison, and loss slowly reveals a story where God was working the whole time. As Joseph’s brothers return during the famine, the story becomes a powerful picture of Christ’s character. Through hidden mercy, undeserved generosity, and a carefully unfolding plan, Joseph’s actions begin to mirror the heart of Jesus — a Savior who sees us fully, works for our good even when we cannot see it, and offers grace far beyond what we deserve. This episode is a reminder that even when the story feels unfinished, God is still writing. And in the end, the same truth echoes through every chapter: what others may intend for harm, God can still turn into something good. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Genesis 37–41 and step into the story of Joseph, a story that moves from the pit, to the palace, to the prison, and reminds us that God is present in every season. What begins with favoritism, jealousy, and a coat of many colors quickly turns into betrayal and a seemingly empty pit. Yet over and over again, scripture repeats the same steady promise: the Lord was with Joseph. In slavery, in false accusation, in forgotten years in prison, God was still writing the story, preparing, positioning, and prospering him in ways Joseph could not yet see. This episode invites us to consider our own pits and prisons and ask where the Lord might already be at work. Because the promise was never that we would avoid hard seasons, but that He would be with us through them, redeeming the story in His time. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman walk through Genesis 24–33 and step into one of the greatest story arcs in all of scripture. From Isaac and Rebekah’s love story to Jacob’s rivalry with Esau, these chapters remind us that God writes beautiful stories through very imperfect people. What begins as a rom-com at a well slowly unfolds into betrayal, broken relationships, wilderness nights, and wrestling prayers. Yet in the middle of deception, fear, and family mess, God shows up. He meets Jacob in a no-name place, speaks promises over him at rock bottom, and reveals Himself as the God who brings ladders, angels, and grace into the most undeserving moments. This episode is a reminder that the scriptures do not hide the complicated parts of our humanity. Instead, they reveal a God who meets us there, who turns shame into altars, who gives new names, and who helps us prevail. If you have ever wondered whether your story is too messy for God to redeem, this lesson is for you. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman continue Abraham’s story in Genesis 18–23 and watch the promises of God begin to unfold in real and messy ways. From radical hospitality to wilderness rescues, these chapters reveal a God who shows up, pursues, and provides. The lesson begins with Abraham running to welcome divine visitors on an ordinary afternoon, reminding us that the Lord appears in everyday moments and that we choose how fully we invite Him in. Placed beside it is Lot’s story, where lingering and looking back contrast with Abraham’s trust. Yet even there, the rescue continues. In houses of sin and cities on the brink, God still calls, “Escape,” revealing a heart determined to save. Genesis 21 and 22 then place two powerful stories side by side. In the wilderness, Hagar discovers the God who sees and provides a well where she least expects it. On Mount Moriah, Abraham and Isaac walk together toward a sacrifice, and the Lord provides a ram, foreshadowing the Lamb who would come later. In both stories, we see the same truth: whether in personal wilderness or eternal need, Jehovah Jireh is the God who provides. These chapters invite us to remember the mountains in our own lives where the Lord has seen us and supplied what we needed. He is the God who comes unto us, who rescues, and who provides, again and again. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman jump into Abraham’s story in Abraham 1 and Genesis 12–17 and start building a picture of God as a God of promises. The stars become the symbol for this week, a reminder that the Lord’s goodness is multiplying, personal, and still true every time you look up at the night sky. They begin with Abraham’s rescue on the altar and the tender way Jehovah introduces Himself: “My name is Jehovah.” From there, the lesson becomes an introduction to who God is, what He’s like, and what He promises to do for His children. You’ll see a God who hears, comes down to deliver, takes you by the hand, and leads you forward even when the future feels uncertain. As the class moves into Genesis, they walk through the promises of the Abrahamic covenant, not just as ancient history, but as living promises for ordinary, messy, faithful people. God promises blessing, protection, purpose, and multiplication, and He invites Abraham to become part of the work of blessing all the families of the earth, including a powerful rescue moment where Abraham pursues Lot like a type and shadow of the Savior. The episode ends in Genesis 15 with one of the most hope filled covenant scenes in scripture. Abraham asks “How will I know?” and God answers by making a covenant of grace, walking through the pieces Himself as if to say, I will keep My promises, and I will cover yours too. When you need the reminder, look to the stars and remember the kind of God who guarantees hope. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Genesis 6–11 and Moses 8 and return to one of the most familiar stories in scripture, not to focus on the storm, but to see the heart of God in the middle of it. This lesson invites us to read the flood through cross vision and notice the mercy woven throughout the chapter. God grieves, God provides an ark with room, God gives light in the darkness, and God remembers Noah when the waters feel like they are prevailing. If you are in a season where you feel like you are treading water and wondering when rest will come, this episode is for you. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman study Moses 7 and step into Enoch’s vision of a world filled with division, sorrow, and darkness, and the surprising hope God offers in the middle of it. This chapter contrasts Canaan and Zion and reminds us that Zion can exist in a hard world because the Lord comes and dwells with His people. We also learn something deeply personal about God. He weeps. He is not too big to care, and He is not far away from what we are carrying. If you’ve ever wondered how long the hard days will last or if God is still involved, this episode is for you. Instead, it reveals a God who comes looking for His children with kindness, questions, and a plan for redemption that existed from the very beginning. In this episode of Don’t Miss This, Dave Butler and Grace Freeman walk through the creation story in Genesis and the Book of Moses, not to explain how the world was made, but to reveal who God is. From the very first words, “In the beginning, God,” this lesson reframes creation as His story. A story that teaches us about God’s heart, His power over chaos, His generosity, and what it means for us to be created in His image. This episode is an invitation to see creation not as distant history, but as a personal reminder that God is intentional, present, and deeply involved in every beginning.
