Hear the new album “Updraft” everywhere you listen to music and find out more at https://www.silvanjoray.com/
Silvan Joray is a Swiss jazz guitarist and composer currently based in New York City. He has gained recognition in the jazz community, having won special prizes at several international jazz competitions. He has performed at prestigious jazz festivals and has toured internationally. Joray grew up in a musical family and began his formal training on the classical guitar, before discovering jazz and switching to the electric guitar. Starting out he focused on jazz standards and was influenced by guitarists such as Wes Montgomery. Later, his studies with renowned jazz guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel at Jazzcampus Basel broadened his musical horizons, inspiring him to compose his own music. Joray's latest album, „Updraft", embraces both the openness of European as well as the rootedness and swing of American jazz. His music is characterized by intricate harmonies, melodic sensitivity, and virtuosic improvisation. Joray is currently immersed in the New York City jazz scene and is continually developing his style by experimenting with extended techniques like quarter tones (also called microtones) and „tapping” (which was popularized by Eddie Van Halen) which are not traditionally associated with jazz guitar playing.

Janet has also had her original songs placed in TV and films such as “One Life to Live,” “All My Children,” “Felicity,” “Free Enterprise,” and many more. Along with placements she has also composed original scores for short films such as “Traces” directed by Joseph Culp which was accepted into the prestigious Palm Springs Short Film Festival and the Hollywood Film Awards. In January of 2015, Janet was hand-picked to coach and consult actress Jennifer Jason Leigh for 2 months on location and in Los Angeles for a special guitar scene in the Quentin Tarantino film, "The Hateful Eight." The actress was nominated for an Academy Award.
Janet has also played guitar for productions of the musicals “Girlfriend", “Soul Doctor” and "Staring Into Nothing”.

Sun, 17 Sep 2023 - 34min - 70 - #66 Doctor Fish — Singer Songwriter Success
Learn more: Doctor.fish
Doctor Fish’s Renaissance Records debut reveals a proud musical throwback—a guitar-wielding, storytelling folk-rock singer-songwriter. No fake retro act; he’s one of the last surviving purveyors of a style of music made famous by Jim Croce, Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Paul Simon, and Gordon Lightfoot.
The road to Doctor Fish’s debut has been long and winding. As he sings in his “Tuesday Morning,” “You know that I’m still standing, just not where I thought I’d be.” He grew up playing saxophone in Tucson, Arizona, and pursued jazz through college. As a saxophonist, he backed legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Cher.
Somewhere along the way, the doctor picked up a guitar and began writing and singing songs.
His journey also found him earning a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology and living in Japan for some years. From there, he founded a thriving program of study for students of popular music at a small college in North Carolina.
The good doctor’s emergence as a solo performer is a beautiful fluke that makes him one of the oldest artists with a debut release.
The legendary David Kershenbaum (Tracy Chapman, Tori Amos, Joe Jackson) produced the Last Troubadour. The album features bassist Leland Sklar (James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Carole King), drummer Denny Fongheiser (Heart, Counting Crows, Shawn Colvin), and top studio musicians from around the world.
“Harry Chapin” serves as the lead-off single for the album. A tribute to the legendary singer-songwriter, it helps celebrate the 50th anniversary of Chapin’s breakout hit, “Taxi,” and what would have been his 80th birthday. Harry’s son Jason calls the song a “great tribute” to his father.

Smith constantly plays local in the Greater Boston area, and has brought his expertise around the world from the USA to China, The Netherlands, France, and the UK, playing as a sideman and bandleader for many musical projects. The bassist has played at esteemed venues such as Dizzy's Club, Wally's Cafe Jazz Club, and Smalls Jazz Club and has played and/or recorded with the likes of Cassandra Wilson, Ron Blake, Stefon Harris, Joe Magnarelli, Jesus Molina, Aaron Parks, and Terri Lyne Carrington. #46 Kevin Harris — Piano | Thought Before Action
Kevin Harris plays a distinctive combination of traditional and contemporary music that seeks to celebrate the musical influences of Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis intersecting with J.S. Bach, Scott Joplin, and the folkloric African rhythms of the Caribbean.
DownBeat Magazine writes that “Harris' compositions deal with themes of strength, love, courage, and self-awareness. It's a heavy task he's set up for himself, and he meets the challenge gracefully.”
In 2020 he was nominated by the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to be a Neighborhood Salon Luminary with the goal to exchange creative ideas and dialogue with Boston’s most innovative and thoughtful luminaries, fostering collaborations and artistic networks while shaping Gardner Museum programming.
He is currently on faculty at Berklee College of Music and he is also a MIT-affiliated artist. Harris thrives on a courageously playful style of communication in music. A style, in his opinion, that requires a very special and sincere habit of listening and an equally patient endeavor to express oneself enthusiastically. He hopes that his performances will always inspire the audience to walk away with a sense of joyful connectedness and community. "Participation,” Harris says, "is what keeps our souls alive.

Dan's host note: I actually got to take one of Isabella's courses and it was revelatory. I highly recommend her and her company Fame Hackers for all artists to get their marketing and social media game going. You can start with her free group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thesuperfanclub
Isabella Bedoya is the founder of Fame Hackers, an artist accelerator that helps independent artists establish profitable and sustainable music careers so they can get paid doing what they love. After working as an A&R for a label under Sony Music, Isabella uses industry experience coupled with cutting-edge strategies to help musicians monetize their music careers, attract their loyal fan base, and reach the levels of success they desire. During her time as an A&R she discovered that as long as an artist knows social media marketing and e-commerce strategies, they can create wildly profitable careers without signing record deals. Shortly after, Isabella set off to learn digital marketing and invested close to six-figures in coaches and consultants to accelerate her knowledge and her growth. In the meantime, she worked for an award-winning influencer marketing agency where she had the opportunity to work with multiple Fortune 500 brands including but not limited to Snap, Google, Bud Light, United Healthcare, and more. She also managed two TikTok accounts for Sony Music LATAM, and so much more! Isabella has worked with many celebrities, influencers, and award-winning industry professionals over the past 6+ years, and has also helped independent artists become viral sensations. Isabella has been invited to speak at the Musicians Institute, BoldTV, Ticker News, iHeartRadio, NBC, KCAA Radio, Beat The Clock Podcast, and published on Medium, Thrive Global, and many more! #famehackers #isabellabedoya #getfans #musicians #songwriter #songwriters #composers #musicmajor #musicmajors #musiceducator #musiceducators #musiceducation #podcast #thebestmusicpodcast #clips #musicpodcast #singer #guitarist #guitarplayer #trombonist #trumpet #violin #viola #cello #bass #brass #trombone #mandolin #banjo #drums #percussion #timpani #marimba #oboe #sax #saxophone #clarinet #basoon #alto #soprano #tenor #piano #keyboard #musicians #songwriter #songwriters #composers #musicmajor #musiceducator #musicpodcast #singersongwriter #musiceducation #singer #trumpet #violin #viola #cello #bass #trombone #musiclife #musicmaker #musicteacher #drums #percussion #saxophone #clarinet #guitar #piano #podcast #thebestmusicpodcast #musicislife #musicindustry #PandoraPodcasts Logo, Intro Video, and Branding: Arron Leishman Audio and Video: Zach Ramey zacherylramey@gmail.com Dan's Thumbnail Photo: John Mollura PhotographyFri, 01 Oct 2021 - 31min - 39 - #37 Ricky Duran — Mega Star | Transforming Pain into Suicide Prevention

Once iTunes hit, and later Spotify, “Snow Miser vs. Heat Miser” began to really resonate with people and rise in popularity. It has since been downloaded over 18,000 times in the last ten years and streamed approximately 900,000 times in the past three. The song became the cornerstone of his 2020 ‘Santa’s Rockin’ Band’ album reboot, which also included a newly penned original, “It’s Christmas Time (All Over the World),” which went on to attain over 250,000 streams on Spotify alone in the last two months of 2020. Fall of 2021 will see the release of “High School Can’t Last Forever,” a rocker that merges the sounds of Buddy Holly and Green Day to explore the notion of what really constitutes youth and innocence. ... and this is merely the beginning! He extended this concept while pursuing his Master’s degree in Music Technology at New York University. In 2015 he premiered his new show entitled Abstract Expressionism in Jazz, an hour-long jazz performance he developed over the past two years to re-identify jazz as a form of Abstract Expressionism. David “Fuze” Fiuczynski is an iconoclastic innovator and a rebel with a guitar. Fluent in funk, rock, fusion, wicked fretless blues slides, Eastern melodicism, Western microtonalism, and everything in-between, his remarkably open-minded and versatile approach to his instrument and music, in general, has made him a “first call” player, and lead to tours and recording projects with a remarkably diverse cast of characters, including Stewart Copeland (The Police), Jack DeJohnette (Miles Davis, John Coltrane), John Zorn, Hiromi, JoJo Mayer, Dennis Chambers, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Marcus Miller, Billy Hart, John Medeski, Ronald Shannon Jackson’s Decoding Society, and countless others. He has played on nearly 100 recordings as a session musician, bandleader, or band member, won a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2011, and is a professor at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. Best known as the leader of the Screaming Headless Torsos, KiF, and as a member of Hasidic New Wave, Fuze launched Planet MicroJam, an institute that explores the use of microtones in groove, jazz, ethnic, folk, and other contexts, in 2012. With this impressive resume under his belt, the mad-scientist guitar hero is now seeking to bring his music to new audiences.

The music of award-winning composer Chris Opperman sounds like your best dream being poured into a glass, and now also like your most artistically intriguing nightmare, but more on that later. For the past twenty years, Opperman has been carving his own niche in today's modern music scene. In addition to his own music, Opperman has performed with and/or orchestrated music for such industry luminaries as Grammy-award winning guitarist Steve Vai, virtuoso musician Mike Keneally, Indian classical music masters L. Shankar (a.k.a. Shenkar) and Zakir Hussein, and former Duran Duran/Missing Persons guitarist Warren Cuccurullo, among many others. Opperman played piano on two of Steve Vai's Grammy-nominated compositions, "Lotus Feet" from Real Illusions: Reflections and "The Attitude Song" from Sound Theories, Vols. I and II, both with the Metropole Orkest and both nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Opperman's orchestration of "For the Love of God," also from those sessions, has exceeded 33 million views on YouTube. In 2001, he released the critically acclaimed Klavierstücke, a solo-piano album that piqued the interest of Steve Vai. Vai observed, “These days it’s rare to hear a person squeeze the most out of the performance potential of a non-electronic instrument. His latest release “Chamber Music from Hell” has made it into major music magazines, received gushing critical reviews from colleagues and critics alike. “Someday, Opperman will be remembered as one of the greatest composers of the 21st century” —Jedd Beaudoin, Sea of Tranquility
