Brixton in south London was once regarded as the spiritual home of the Caribbean community. However, after waves of gentrification and regeneration, Richie set out to find out whether Brixton is still the home of Caribbean culture in Britain.

Within a mile of the famous Brixton Market, Richie speaks with the owner of The Black Farmer brand, Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones MBE, who recently opened his delicatessen and eatery on Brixton Row. For World AIDS Day, Richie Brave sits down with Dr Nneka Nwokolo, one of the UK’s leading HIV physicians. She has spent years working in sexual health, HIV treatment and prevention, helping shape national conversations around equitable healthcare. He's also joined in the studio by Reverend Jide, a black gay priest within the Church of England and an openly HIV-positive advocate. He is also the founder of House of Rainbow, a faith-based organisation supporting LGBTQIA+ people.

Dr Nneka discusses all the treatments available for HIV, the right terminology to use and how the scientific advancements mean getting HIV is no longer seen as a 'death sentence'. Reverend Jide shares his personal experience of first getting diagnosed, reckoning with the feelings of shame, navigating religious spaces as a gay man and ultimately landing firm in his identity as a 'Happy, Holy Homosexual'.

Lastly, with winter upon us and the drops in temperature continuing, these weather conditions could significantly impact people living with Sickle Cell. So with that in mind, Richie sits down with Marsha Howe, a powerful advocate for sickle cell awareness, who lives with it herself. She shares what life has been like navigating this disease, from day-to-day life, to pregnancy, motherhood and beyond. She also shares just how important blood donation is to her.

This week on 1Xtra Talks, Richie concludes his season of spotlighting, celebrating and hailing up Black women in sport with a special roundtable. He sits down with Footballer and Broadcaster Eni Aluko, Athlete and Business Woman, Ama Pipi and Boxer, Natasha Jonas, who was the first British woman to compete at the Olympics. These women share their career journeys, their experiences and responses to dealing with racism as athletes, and what it's like to date!

We also hear from 12-year-old athlete Nia Marshall on what she loves most about the sprinting and who inspires her so early on in her journey.

Lastly, Richie Brave transports us to Grenada, amid the Carnival and Spicemas celebrations.

Richie sits down with Ian Charles from Jambalasee, cultural archivist dedicated to documenting Grenada’s Jab Jab Carnival traditions. He talks about the history of the Jab drums and their cultural significance, as well as recounting what it's like to attend Carnival after the tragedy of a hurricane.

He's also joined by Anika Alexander, Grenadian-born cultural content creator, influencer and storyteller, best known by her handle 'Nutmeg Princess'. Anika delves into the importance of honouring traditional mas and recounts how the people continue to persevere through the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.

And finally, Michael Pierre, a respected elder from Paraclete, Grenada, a village up in Grenada’s country. Michael shares wisdom and lived experience of the island’s resilience.

Richie speaks to Jade Benn, author of literary phenomenon Keisha the Sket, 20 years on from its original appearance.
