  • 12 - Why Do We Click With Some People But Not Others?

    Hiii loves!! 💌

Okay... have you ever met someone and just INSTANTLY clicked? Like, you've known each other for five minutes and already know you're going to be friends?

But then there's that person who has the same interests, the same hobbies, basically EVERYTHING in common with you... and for some reason, you just don't click.

Since moving to Athens and meeting so many new people, I've been thinking about this A LOT. So today we're diving into the actual science behind friendship and why our brains seem to choose certain people over others.

And guys... the research is actually crazy.

From studies showing that close friends' brains respond to the world in almost identical ways (!!), to the tiny things we unconsciously do when we like someone, to why you can talk to someone online for MONTHS and still not click when you finally meet in person.

We're also getting into why instant chemistry doesn't always mean someone is good for you, whether friendship and dating apps can really predict compatibility, and whether it's actually possible to make someone like you.

The biggest takeaway? Just because someone seems like your perfect friend on paper doesn't mean you're going to click. And that's okay!! Sometimes it's not about having the same interests, but seeing the world in the same way.

🎙️ Topics covered: the neuroscience of friendship, why we instantly click with certain people, brain synchronisation, friendship compatibility, the chameleon effect, mirroring body language, shared laughter, online vs. real-life friendships, dating and friendship apps, instant chemistry, why we like people who agree with us, the mere exposure effect, and how long it actually takes to become close friends.

  • 11 - What Big Tech Doesn't Want You to Know (Lawmakers Explain)

Okay... we all know our phones are addictive. We joke about our screen time, complain about doomscrolling, delete Instagram just to redownload it three days later...

But do you actually know why it's so hard to put your phone down?

Because after this conversation, I'm officially done blaming myself!!

For this episode, I went to the European Parliament (!!) to sit down with Alexandra Geese and Christel Schaldemose - two Members of the European Parliament who have actually worked on the laws regulating platforms like Instagram, TikTok and X.

And guys... some of the things I learned are WILD.

We talk about how social media literally uses the same psychological principles as slot machines, why you not knowing when your next post will get likes or views is part of what keeps you hooked, and why anger, fear and outrage are the actual business model for Big Tech.

But we also talk about what is actually being done about it.

From new laws protecting young people, to holding tech companies accountable, to what a healthier internet could genuinely look like.

This conversation is here to remind you (and me!) to maybe stop feeling so guilty about our screen time. We're literally fighting against apps designed by some of the smartest people in the world to keep you on them.

🎙️ Topics covered: why social media is so addictive, the slot machine effect, dopamine and unpredictable rewards, doomscrolling, why algorithms reward anger and outrage, Big Tech's business model, the Digital Services Act, social media and young people's mental health, proposed age restrictions in Europe, holding tech companies accountable, and what a healthier future for social media could look like.

  • 10 - Stop Waiting for Your 'Main Character Moment': The Butterfly Effect

Okay, this episode completely changed the way I think about 'ordinary' days.

We've all heard stories about one tiny moment changing someone's entire life. Missing a train. Sending one email. Meeting one stranger. Saying yes to one invitation.

    But here's my question...

If you believe that - that one tiny decision in your past shaped your life... why don't you believe the tiny decisions you're making today could do the exact same thing?

Today we're diving into one of my favourite concepts ever: the butterfly effect. We talk about where it actually comes from, why social media tricks us into thinking only the big moments matter, and why your random tuesday afternoon might be way more important than you realize.

From the scientific discovery that started the butterfly effect, the wrong turn that helped trigger World War I, to the ordinary people whose entire lives changed because they took a different bus or started one awkward conversation.

The biggest takeaway? Stop waiting for your main character moment to happen to you, your life changes in the small every day moments and the 1% choices you make.

🎙️ Topics covered: the butterfly effect, chaos theory, Edward Lorenz, compound habits, why social media makes us overlook ordinary moments, the power of tiny decisions, the 1% rule, creating more luck in your life, and how small actions quietly shape your future.

  • 9 - Why Am I Like This? The Psychology Of Personality & Change

    Hiii loves!!

Okay... this episode, we're being philosophers 🤓 It's a deep one (but fun, I promise)

Have you ever wondered if you actually chose who you became? Your personality, your style, the things you like... or are you just a product of your DNA, your childhood, your parents, your TikTok algorithm, and every random thing you've ever experienced?

And the question we all really want the answer to: can we actually change?

Today we're diving into one of the biggest questions in psychology: are we born the way we are, or does life make us that way? And trust me... the research is actually crazy.

From identical twins who unknowingly lived almost identical lives, to babies showing a sense of "good" and "bad" before they can even speak, to the science proving your brain is constantly rewiring itself, this episode is one giant reminder that you're way more complex than you think.

The biggest takeaway? Stop saying "that's just who I am." Science literally disagrees.

Topics covered: nature vs. nurture, the Jim Twins study, the Baby Lab experiments, the story of Genie Wiley, how personality develops, where our biases come from, social media algorithms, neuroplasticity, the Big Five personality traits, and whether people can actually change.
