Have you lost contact with your child? What about your parent, or grandparent, sibling, or any other family member? You might be experiencing estrangement, alienation, or erasure. All of these terms speak to the trauma and dysfunction that so many families face.
A family is a complex living and breathing system. Each member plays a role in the family dynamic. When families carry generational trauma and/or experience new trauma, challenges, or dysfunction, this can result in a break in the family system.
These reaction strategies are habitual and very often interwoven into every aspect of how our family interacts.
Hi! I´m Lawrence Joss and I’ve learned that I need to cultivate a spiritual, emotional, and physical relationship with myself in order to have healthy relationships with others and everything in my life. It is my mission to help you create and nurture that relationship with yourself first and provide you with tools that might help you heal and strengthen family relationships.
This podcast is an opportunity to explore our healing journey together through the complexities of our families.

Email-familydisappeared@gmail.comMon, 15 Apr 2024 - 38 - How to Combat Parental Alienation, Estrangement, and Erasure Through Non-Violent Communication Part 2 - Episode 37
As an alienated father, I've walked the rocky path of connecting with my daughters through the thinnest of threads, and that's where I discovered the healing balm of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). With my guest, Mary Mackenzie, we unravel my journey, and offer you the tools to mend and deepen the bonds within your family, even when the waters of communication seem unnavigable. My story is one of listening, not just to the words of my daughters, but to the emotions and needs that drive us all, and it's a story I'm eager to share with you.
Through the lens of empathy and patience, especially in the turbulent teen years, we examine how to manage our own emotional tempests, and extend a bridge of understanding. I'll recount the surprising advantages of 'making wrong guesses' when attempting to empathize, a tactic that invites clarity and connection rather than distance. It's not just about weathering the storm, but learning the dance steps to move in harmony with the resistance of a blossoming young adult, respecting their pace and space.
In our heart-to-heart discussion, we pivot to the ripple effects of NVC in all facets of life, highlighting it's role in personal stress relief and enhanced communication. Mary and I also explore the channels of support such as the NVC Academy and community groups that offer solace to parents feeling the ache of estrangement. Glean wisdom from our open conversation, and consider this your invitation to practice NVC for more authentic, compassionate interactions that extend far beyond the family tree.

The pain of family estrangement cuts deep, and in our latest episode, we grapple with this silent struggle alongside guests from the PAA community. We share not only our own heart-wrenching experiences of alienation from our children but also the journeys of others who are navigating these turbulent waters. Embark on a conversation that is both a map and a compass for those seeking to mend the fractures within their own families, and discover the solace that comes with knowing you're not navigating these rough seas alone.
As we unfold the layers of emotional landscapes shaped by broken bonds and societal constructs, you'll find yourself immersed in a dialogue that's as real as it gets. We delve into how childhood traumas echo through generations and the ways in which these hidden currents can lead to alienation. The insights gained here are not just theoretical—they're lived experiences that provide clarity on the path to healing, the responsibilities of parenting, and the transformation that comes when one confronts their identity within the family unit.
The journey doesn't end with understanding the problem; it beckons us toward recovery and advocacy. Our conversation culminates as we highlight the transformative power of support systems, such as Parental Alienation programs that foster self-improvement and bridge-building with our children. These poignant tales reveal the strength found in vulnerability, the gratitude for life's trials, and the hope for a reunion. Each story is a testament to the relentless pursuit of reconnection and the belief that, despite the past's shadows, a brighter future for our families is within reach.

Embarking on a profound odyssey through emotional landscapes, I found that healing personal wounds and transforming relationships starts with the language we use and the understanding of our own neural pathways. Our guest, Sarah, with her expertise in relational neuroscience and self-compassion, joins me to share insights that can turn the brain into a sanctuary of warmth and empathy. Throughout the discussion, we unravel how Nonviolent Communication (NVC), family constellations, and neuroscience not only reshaped my relationship with my father but also offer others a blueprint for reconnecting with family members and resolving generational scars.
Touching upon the nurturing power of empathy in parenting, we reveal the subtle strength behind a simple phrase like "Are you willing?" and discuss how it can cultivate cooperation in our children. The transformative journey from confrontation to compassion exemplifies the shift that's possible when we apply NVC in our familial interactions. We also delve into the concept of embodied parenting, exploring how our language patterns and attachment styles can pave the way for a partnership-oriented family dynamics, and how creating a secure emotional environment can lead to healthier, more grounded offspring.
Finally, we dissect the systemic factors that seep into our family fabric, acknowledging how societal influences like poverty and racism contribute to the intergenerational transmission of trauma. A captivating case study from a constellation workshop provides a vivid example of how historical events still echo in today's relationships. Sarah's contributions, including her works "Your Resonant Self" and the accompanying workbook, are highlighted as essential guides for anyone on the quest for personal growth and healing. Together, we underscore the significance of understanding family systems in the broader context of societal struggles and the importance of supporting initiatives that bring these life-affirming communication modalities to the forefront of our community.

Have you ever felt caught in the middle of your parent's silent wars, loving them both yet torn by their underlying discord? I'm Lawrence Joss, and in this poignant conversation, we explore the complex world of parental alienation within intact families. Joined by Ceyhun from Turkey, we offer a cross-cultural perspective on family estrangement, and the silent battles that shape our internal and external worlds. This episode promises an introspective journey through the landscapes of enmeshment and codependency that often trace back to before children even enter the picture, setting the stage for a cycle of generational trauma and dysfunction.
Parental relationships can be a delicate web of emotions and expectations, where the line between caregiver and confidante is often blurred. This episode peels back the layers of such dynamics, spotlighting how they can project internalized parental roles into our adult lives and relationships. We open the dialogue on the all-too-common phenomenon where children become the caretakers of their parents' unaddressed issues, leading to a deep-seated struggle for independence and self-identity. With our guest Ceyhun providing insight into how these themes play out in diverse cultural settings, we bring to the fore the necessity of recognizing these patterns for what they are: a call to embark on the path to emotional liberation.
Finally, we wade into the tender waters of emotional incest and the yearning for connection amidst parental alienation. The stories shared in this chapter serve as a mirror for listeners who might find reflections of their own familial challenges. The conversation goes further, addressing the potent desire for paternal recognition and how one's sense of masculinity can be entwined with these formative relationships. As we wrap up this episode, remember that our shared narratives are the stepping stones towards healing, and that you're not navigating these waters alone.

If so, then Family Disappeared may well be for you.
Welcome to the FAMILY DISAPPEARED podcast.
