David Knight lives just yards from the Natural History Museum. When the police swoop down on the home he shares with his mum and stepfather, they’re convinced they’ve got their man. But there are holes in their story. Did David really confess on the spot? Could he even have stolen the diamond? And are the police as upstanding as they seem? David’s mum, Dolly, is about to begin a campaign to clear his name - one that will take decades and change their family forever.

London in the 1960s is in the grips of a crime spree…rare diamonds are being stolen. The latest is the Colenso diamond. It’s the world’s largest uncut diamond and one of the Natural History Museum’s most important pieces. When a young window cleaner is arrested a few months after the theft, his family is thrown into turmoil. David Knight will protest his innocence until the day he dies, but it’s the start of a much bigger story.

A true story of crime, corruption and two impossible thefts. In 1965 the world’s largest uncut diamond is stolen from the Natural History Museum, the man arrested is David Knight, a 24 year old window cleaner who lived just yards away. Now Josie Long tells his extraordinary story. There was no evidence placing David at the scene, and the police officers who claimed he confessed were far from squeaky clean. But if he was innocent when he went into prison, he certainly wasn’t on his release. After he walks out of Wormwood Scrubs he embarks on an audacious life of crime, culminating in a famous heist that only a handful of people in the world knew he was responsible for…until now.
