Things Police See: Firsthand Accounts

Derrick Levasseur is a decorated police sergeant from Central Falls, Rhode Island. Hired at only twenty years old, he was one of the youngest officers in the department’s history and worked in both the Patrol Division and the Detective Division. He was later assigned to the Special Investigations Unit as an undercover detective, where he had the opportunity to work with the ATF, DEA, FBI, and US Secret Service, resulting in numerous arrests and seizures. 

In 2014 Derrick won Big Brother on CBS and a new trajectory began in his career path.  He has now hosted multiple TV Shows on ID Discovery along with hosting two massively successful podcasts, links below. He also owns and operates Break Investigation Group and Criminal Coffee Company. Proceeds from the Coffee Company go to helping to solve cold cases.

Jay Dobyns joined the ATF in 1987 and was involved in more than 500 undercover operations during his 27-year career as a Special Agent. Most notably, he infiltrated the Hells Angels motorcycle gang in Arizona between 2001 and 2003 as part of Operation Black Biscuit. In 2009, Dobyns became a New York Times Best-Selling author with his memoir, No Angel: My Harrowing Undercover Journey to the Inner Circle of the Hells Angels. He retired from the ATF in 2014.

Chicago PD Homicide!

Richard Rybicki retired from the Chicago Police Department after 29 years of service. The author served in numerous assignments throughout his career including Patrol Officer, Tactical Officer, Gang Crimes Specialist, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and Detective Lieutenant.  His last assignment was as the Lieutenant/Commanding Officer of the Area Three Homicide/Sex/Gang Crimes unit of the Detective Division.​

After retiring for the second time, he returned to his lifelong passion of writing.  His first book, The Pain Game, was published in 2016 and introduced the character of Sam Laska, a disgraced former Chicago Police detective living in Florida.  He continues the adventures of Sam in Where the Road Leads, Bottom Feeder Blues, and The Green Line.

Greg Lee is a retired Supervisory Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Department of Justice, and was last assigned to the Los Angeles Division as the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Program Coordinator. He is a graduate and was a counselor for the 160th session of the FBI National Academy. Before his federal career, Greg worked as a police officer for Salinas PD and then Pasadena PD. In 1995, while in Islamabad, Lee directly participated in the capture of Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, collected critical evidence, and later testified at his trial. His unique experiences in Pakistan are mentioned in two best-selling non-fiction books: Unholy Wars, by John K. Cooley, and 1000 Years For Revenge: International Terrorism and the FBI, by Peter Lance. Greg is the author of the popular Novel, Stinger: An International Thriller.

Sandy Wall is a retired Houston PD copper that started his career in the 70's! He has some great and crazy stories from his days at HPD! Check out the Novel he wrote based on many of the insane experiences he had!

M. L. "Sandy" Wall is a retired Master Peace Officer and a 28-year veteran of the Houston Police Department. He has worked in Patrol, Narcotics, and has served 22 years on the HPD SWAT Detail. He served as a Team Leader for more than 12 years. He received four Police Chief's Commendations and the 1992 HPD "Officer of the Year" Award. In 1999 he won the TTPOA statewide "Super SWAT" competition and in 2006 The National Association of Police Officers awarded him "Top Cop" for the state of Texas.
