Thu, 17 Aug 2023 - 1h 20min - 3 - Forests and forestry carbon offsets - Conversation with Thomas Duong, the CEO and founder of The Green Projects (TGP)
Why do we need to restore forests and can forestry carbon offsets be a good thing for the planet?
Conversation withThomas Duong, the CEO and founder of The Green Projects (TGP)
Forests are incredibly important for our existence, no wonder they are called the lungs of the planet. They draw in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen, they store large amounts of carbon in their biomass and soil, they regulate water cycle and protect soil from erosion, they are the source of biodiversity which underpins our ecosystem and wellbeing. Protecting and restoring forests is essential for mitigating the impacts of climate change, and in this episode we are exploring whether the system of carbon credits could play a role in this.
With the new sustainability disclosure regulations such as SFDR in the EU and SDR in the UK, European companies are encouraged to calculate and report their carbon footprint, which might boost the market for carbon offsets. However sustainable a business is, there will be always some unabated e missions, which a company might want to offset with carbon credits.
But can we trust carbon offsets? Carbon offsets have a bad reputation at the moment. They are often associated with the greenwashing, as many companies use carbon credits as a license to avoid decarbonisation. We have also seen scandals, where the journalists uncovered significant problems with the carbon credits that were certified by Verra, one of the world's main organisations approving carbon offset projects. Can we restore trust in these instruments?
Today we are talking with Thomas Duong, whose company aims to raise awareness about deforestation problem that goes beyond Amazon forests. They work with IoT, AI and Blockchain technologies to create high-quality forestry carbon credits that motivate local farmers in Vietnam and other locations to scale up afforestation and reforestation efforts.

Sat, 22 Apr 2023 - 40min - 2 - Sustainability in Fashion Industry - Interview with Tansy Hoskins, an award-winning author and journalist
Sustainability in Fashion Industry - Interview withTansy Hoskins, an award-winning author and journalist
In this podcast we dive into the subject of Sustainability in the Fashion industry, or rather the lack of thereof. Fashion industry generates more emissions than airline and shipping industry combined. According to UNEP, it is responsible for 10% of annual global emissions. While the global population of our planet has reached 8 billion people, we produce more than 100 billion items of clothing every year, most of which end up in the landfill within a year. The industry generates a huge amount of pollution, uses vast amounts of water and is a major cause of social injustice.
Huge thanks for Tansy Hoskins, an award-winning author, journalist, independent researcher and social justice campaigner, for this insightful interview, where she also talks about potential pathways to address the current situation. This interview was recorded for an upcoming training course Sustainability in Fashion which will be published by the end of April 2023.

Mon, 03 Apr 2023 - 35min - 1 - Creating social tipping points to drive positive change in climate change. Conversation with Viktoria Spaiser.
This is a recording of the webinar organised by the climate community 1.5° DAO (https://1p5dao.xyz). The presentation slides for this talk are available to members only.
In this episode you will learn what defines the social tipping points that shift the social behaviours and norms to a new paradigm.
Can it become unacceptable to drive a petrol car? Can the fear for the future of our children make us vote out politicians who deny climate change? Why increase in climate awareness can create radical movements such as eco-fascism?We invited Victoria Spaiser, the Associate Professor in Sustainability Research and Computational Social Science at the University of Leeds (UK), to talk about her research and to teach us how to become the social tipping point creators.
The session is facilitated by our co-founder Anna Pechurina , the Associate Professor in Sociology at Karlstad University in Sweden.
